801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I have the 12-word, how do I find my private key for a specific rcving address? on: January 02, 2019, 02:19:39 PM
Info taken from : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=965932.0

Try deriving from m/44'/0'/1'/0 or m/44'/0'/2'/0 since according to the link this fits your description of having an "Other account" in the same wallet.

Since you were on android theres also mention of using m/44'/0'/0' instead of the other one, if that doesnt work i guess that implies you should try m/44'/0'/1' and so on.

I'd say finding the correct derivation path is the easiest way for you to pull this off, just look around on which was used to generate your addresses.

It's not a mycelium wallet. It's a hive wallet that he's trying to restore in other wallet software. OP hasn't replied so I'm guessing either the problem is solved or he doesn't care anymore.
802  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: First time user unable to connect to server on: January 02, 2019, 05:35:49 AM
Borders as in for example the Australian - New Zealand border if each have different phone companies.

They are very far away on account of both being surrounded by lots of ocean Smiley

Can you open a terminal/CMD window and try to launch Electrum from there using the -verbose flag, in order to
see what goes on, including error messages while it tries to connect?

Not even sure if that would work using windows, but worth a try.

It wouldn't work on windows. The python wrapper they use discards any output sent to the terminal.

@Lord varith: A few things to try:

- What color orb icon are you seeing in the bottom right?

- Try changing servers again. To change servers you have to go to tools > network > server tab and uncheck select server automatically and then right click on a server in the list there and choose use server. Did you do that?

-  Do you have a proxy configured on the proxy tab of the network window ? Try disabling the proxy if you have a proxy configured there.
803  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Hashes on: December 31, 2018, 09:40:21 AM
Hashes are worthless because even fake sites can host hashes. Also if the official site gets hacked the hacker can replace the hashes too. This has actually happened in the past in the opensource world with linux mint. A digital signature can't be forged though so that's why digital signatures are provided.
804  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: ERROR Electrum Addresses on: December 31, 2018, 02:42:23 AM
if you have the original download file you can check the gpg sig.
805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I have the 12-word, how do I find my private key for a specific rcving address? on: December 31, 2018, 02:32:58 AM
The derivation path for hive wallet is m/0'. So do the restore using electrum again (start via file > new/restore, enter unique filename and click next) and this time enter that derivation path. Make sure when entering the seed it says checksum ok next to the options buttion. That's how you know you've entered the bip39 mnemonic correctly (of course you have to click on options and check bip39 but I'm guessin you already know that?). If this works please let me know.

Source for derivation path. Note electrum will automatically add 0 or 1 for the external or internal chain so you have to enter m/0' and not m/0'/0 when restoring in electrum.

Yes, I found some coins at m/0'/0

I'm still missing 0.91 BTC at a certain receiving address - but i can't find this receiving address generated at all using the bip39 script with my 12-word list

But I am still hoping that the 0.91 BTC is in the same seed, just at a weird derivation path

If you restore your wallet electrum will do the necessary job of searching for addresses with balances in them. Restore by selecting bip39 in step 4 (see note) and using m/0' as the derivation path (not m/0'/0) in step 5 of this guide.

no you have to create a new wallet. start via file menu > new/restore, enter a unique filename for the new wallet file and click next. proceed as per on-screen instructions. make sure you have a pen and paper handy to write down the seed.
808  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: There has been an increased number of "fake" electrums out there, be careful. on: December 30, 2018, 11:42:56 AM
This latest hack is particularly disturbing and it scared the crap out of me.  Hard to trust anything you download anymore.

it has never been hard and it will never be hard only if you know what you are doing!

in this case it is a very simple matter of understanding what PGP means and how it works. so even if you by any chance download a fake wallet, knowing how PGP works you try verifying its signature and when it fails you simply don't trust or install it!

understanding PGP means knowing how to verify signatures and more importantly understanding the concept of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_of_trust so that you don't naively trust any public key you see.
It didn't require a fake wallet - it happened with the official PGP signed wallet.

The message appeared on the legit wallet but it was just text. It was harmless. Only people who reacted to it by downloading the software linked in the text and not verifying that software suffered losses. So the real electrum didn't steal from them. It was the fake software that people went out of their way to download and use.
809  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Master Public Key PHP Bitcoin received not showing in Electrum 3.3.2 on: December 30, 2018, 11:36:53 AM
So the script creates addresses beginning with 1? What about electrum? When you go to the receive tab what does the address given there start with?  Also what is the wallet type under wallet menu > information?

finally can you provide a source URL for the script in question?

811  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Avast Malware Warning (electrum 3.3.2) (maybe false warning?) on: December 30, 2018, 08:48:20 AM
Learn to verify the gpg sigs. Antivirus software can't be trusted in this case. It tends to generate a lot of false positives when it comes to bitcoin software.
812  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Master Public Key PHP Bitcoin received not showing in Electrum 3.3.2 on: December 30, 2018, 08:46:28 AM
Do the addresses start with 3 or 1? What does it say for wallet type under wallet menu > information?
813  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Phishing Update on: December 29, 2018, 07:04:23 AM
Download 3.3.2 from electrum.org and install that if you like. Don't respond to any in app update notifications because there are no such legit notifications. The only notification you get is because of a bug that a scammer is exploiting. All he can do is show you a notification. Just x out of it. There are no auto updates.

The fake notification looks like this: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/4968#issue-394260722

814  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Is there a fast way to make a watch only wallet on mobile out of xpub, zpub addr on: December 29, 2018, 04:03:15 AM
There is the option to create a non-deterministic watch only wallet with specific addresses. See 2 here: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/creating-a-watch-only-wallet/ . It won't automatically generate new addresses though since it's not deterministic.
815  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I think I lost all my BTC with electrum on: December 28, 2018, 05:56:07 AM
Can some expert here let us newbies know how something like this could have been avoided? Would it be to do a PGP check on every electrum download we make? Is that sufficient to prevent this from happening?

Yes that's right. Also don't download from random git repos! Bookmark the electrum website electrum.org and always use that bookmark when downloading electrum. Also always verify the gpg sig.
816  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Old Version of Electrum shows BLANK Seed on: December 27, 2018, 01:01:08 PM
Get the master private key from the command line.

Pre-2015 wallets had a master private key instead of a seed. I don’t know why it shows a blank box though. Try getting the master private (the box should be gray if it’s imported).

Old wallets did have seeds. Grabbing the master private key can't hurt. I also suggest OP backup his wallet file. Perhaps the option file > save copy is there. If not he can grab the wallet file from the wallets directory. Whatever happens it should be possible to recover his wallet secrets from the wallet file.
817  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.2: SyntaxError: invalid syntax on: December 27, 2018, 03:35:14 AM

My suggestion is that you add debian testing to your list of repos and install pyqt5 from there. It has the updated version. If that doesn't work remove the python version you installed from source and then install the one on testing.

You can use your apt preferences file to only install certain packages from testing repos.

Thanks for your reply.

Below is the advice from Debian (paragraph lifted from "Don't make a FrankenDebian" https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian):

Quote
Debian Stable should not be combined with other releases. If you're trying to install software that isn't available in the current Debian Stable release, it's not a good idea to add repositories for other Debian releases. The problems might not happen right away, but the next time you install updates.

The reason things can break is because the software packaged for one Debian release is built to be compatible with the rest of the software for that release. For example, installing packages from buster on a stretch system could also install newer versions of core libraries including libc6. This results in a system that is not testing or stable but a broken mix of the two.

Repositories that can create a FrankenDebian if used with Debian Stable:

    Debian testing release (currently buster)

Debian unstable release (also known as sid)

Ubuntu, Mint or other derivative repositories are not compatible with Debian!

    Ubuntu PPAs

Conclusion: I will just not use Electrum 3.3.2 on my Debian system.

Yes there's a slight risk mixing repos like that but it's a lot less than installing from source. It's in fact quite common to use some packages from testing because debian tends to have pretty old packages in stable. I suggest asking on debian forums if you don't believe me. Also note that testing is what's going to eventually become the new stable version so you'll be upgrading to it anyway.
818  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: my electrum wallet (NEW VERSION) has been hacked on: December 27, 2018, 03:32:17 AM
spesmilo one is the real one. also there are no update notifications anymore. that was removed many versions back because of privacy concerns. you downloaded a fake electrum from some site and then updated the fake electrum!

the latest version is 3.3.2 https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES
819  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.2: SyntaxError: invalid syntax on: December 27, 2018, 01:04:55 AM
The pyqt5 you have is for the version of python that comes with debian not the one you just installed. This is why you don't install from source if you can help it. It makes dealing with dependencies and maintaining the system harder.

My suggestion is that you add debian testing to your list of repos and install pyqt5 from there. It has the updated version. If that doesn't work remove the python version you installed from source and then install the one on testing.

You can use your apt preferences file to only install certain packages from testing repos.
820  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Sending Fee Question on: December 26, 2018, 12:00:16 PM
I will most likely transfer some btc from electrum to someone or another site and haven't done so in quite a while.  If you do a low fee, is it still pretty quick nowadays?  And anyone can tell me what is the recommended fee as of now and how long does that take?

If you pause your mouse cursor over the fee slider on the send tab it'll tell you the estimated time to confirmation. You can also customize this algorithm via tools > preferences > fees tab > fee estimation. Low fees don't always lead to quick confirmations. I mean it can take a few hours. Certainly not days like in 2017.
