I wonder whether there are any other resident Pakistanis on this board? So far I haven't encountered any but according to bitnodes there a few bitcoin users in Pakistan and I know of at least one miner. Anyway let's see if any show up If you are looking to safely buy or sell bitcoins in Pakistan check out localbitcoins. localbitcoins per to rate boht high ha kia chakkar ha 8 Lac per btc around mang rhe hen wasy btc $6000 chal rha ha itni high fee ? any other way to buy under 125 Rupees per $ ? I think there are other reasons for the higher rates besides the exchange rate. The rupee is due for a further round of devaluation and the SBP has made it harder to buy foreign fiat currencies like dollars and euros. So I'm guessing that's why people are piling into bitcoin. Are you aware that you don't have to buy a whole bitcoin? Bitcoin is divisible to 8 decimal places so buy a fraction of a coin if you can't afford a whole coin.

Many options to choose from but you want an SPV wallet that doesn't download the blockchain. I use and recommend Electrum, easy enough to use and learn, and good enough for more advanced use. Should be really easy, since you seem to have your private key already. Just install, and on the very first window to create a new wallet, select the last option "import Bitcoin addresses or private keys". Also, seems yr private key is compressed... Get the uncompressed key via https://www.bitaddress.org (run offline) and import that. why did you tell him to get the uncompressed private key? the address will be different for that. the address he received bitcoins at is only unlocked with the compressed private key. he needs to import the compressed private key in electrum i.e. exactly what bitcoin core gives him.

Hello. I just recently learned the importance of generating a new public address for every tx for BTC and ETH. It's supposedly not just for privacy but for security.
Re: ETH I believe it doesn't use addresses but accounts and you're supposed to reuse them not make new ones but I'm not sure. You can probably ask in the altcoins section of this forum or on /r/ethereum. With regard to BTC there are no sending addresses. You give out a unique address each time you want to receive money. This makes it easy for you to track who sent you what and it makes it harder for others to track how much money you have. In your wallet when you go to the receive option it'll give you a new unused address each time so learn to use that. Don't fixate too much on addresses. Your wallet has unlimited addresses and consider them as disposable lock boxes that people can deposit money into for you. Best to use a different address per transaction and label your addresses before you hand them out so that when you receive money you can tell who sent you how much.

@All: This is an outgoing transaction from the OP's wallet not an incoming one. See below. @akobako: So I believe you have a 2fa Electrum wallet? The 0.001 output to that 1fd.. address is for the cosigning services of trusted coin. You can learn more about that in 2 here.

This problem occurs in outdated versions of electrum. Write down your seed if you haven't done so already. You can get it from wallet menu> seed in most wallets. You can also backup the wallet file via file > save copy. Then download and install the latest version of electrum from electrum.org.

you can enter script in the payto field on the send tab. so just enter your opcodes there.
|
|
|
Just wait for it to sync. Don't do anything until that process is complete and after it is complete you won't have to do anything.

I apologize in advance if this is redundant to anyone, but unfortunately I cannot search the forum so I have to ask my question here. So I downloaded Bitcoin Core. I purchased bitcoins on Coinmama. I created a new wallet in Bitcoin Core, and verified it with Coinmama. Little did I know, Bitcoin Core has to download, now, 200gigs of blocks to display my transaction, because obviously mine is fairly recent. Now I verified on https://explorer.bitcoin.com/btc/ that my wallet ID does indeed have the funds in there. However, I dont have the computer memory to support 200gigs. I just went out and bought a 128gig SD just for this, and only THEN found out its 200 gigs. Now I tried going into Help > Debug Window to try to turn the wallet into a private key so I can transfer it into another app by doing this: 16:52:32 walletpassphrase(…) 16:52:32 null 16:56:52 dumpprivkey "wallet ID in here" It gave me an alphanumeric string starting with L. When I tried to enter that into a new bitcoin wallet app called Bither, it asked me for a password. I entered my passphrase from Bitcoin core, yet it doesnt work. Now my question is, in order to transfer the bitcoins, do I need to have them be delivered to my wallet in bitcoin core first? Also what can I do about the space issue? I tried pruning, which from what I understand is when you open bitcoin.conf and write "prune" in there. Of course, it didnt work. Please Help! you can find the option to prune under the settings in the bitcoin qt window. it's the option to limit block storage. it'll be easier to set it there than in the config file. if you want to bail here's an article that shows you how to switch to electrum: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transferring_coins_from_Bitcoin-Qt_to_Electrum . you don't have to wait for core to sync before you can switch to electrum.

the private keys have to be in wallet import format (WIF) or in mini key format. WIF private keys start with 5, L or K. mini private keys start with S. Examples are given below: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Private_key#Base58_Wallet_Import_formatArmory probably exports the private keys in WIF or plain hex format. I also believe it inserts spaces between the characters. If that's the case then remove the spaces before you import them. If the priv keys are hexadecimal and not in WIF you can convert them using a python script or the electrum python console. I suggest creating a standard electrum wallet making sure to note down the seed then going to view menu > show console, switch to console tab and typing this in there: hexpriv="<yourprivatekeyinhex>" bitcoin.serialize_privkey(bytes.fromhex(hexpriv), True, "p2pkh")
It'll then spit out your priv key in WIF which you can sweep via wallet menu > private key > sweep or import into a new wallet if you prefer. When you're done be sure to clear the console history or your private keys will be saved in plain text to disk: window.console.history = []
edit2: Thanks to SombreNight for help with that last command which clears the console history!

multisig doesn't necessarily mean that it's a 2fa wallet with trusted coin as a cosigner.

Wallets like Electrum has incorporated hardware wallets into their software. The trust goes to the contributors of Electrum instead of the hardware wallet developers in this case.
electrum has incorporated plugins that interface with hardware wallets but the wallets themselves hold the seed. they could still be backdoored. electrum can't protect you in that case nor does it guarantee that hardware wallets you use are not backdoored.

I strongly advise against doing what jasux is saying above.
@NG6669 try restoring via electrum again this time making sure that you put spaces between words instead of hyphens. Also near the options button it should tell you "bip 39 checksum ok" once you've entered the seed correctly.
If you still can't manage to restore it in electrum tell us what the first character in your bither addresses is? 1 or 3?
|
|
|
I just want to add this --> You can disable the change address feature by going to tools>preferences>Click the transaction tab then uncheck "use change addresses" so that if you send a bitcoin the electrum wouldn't make a new change address again then after that if you want to merge all of your balances in one bitcoin address just send all bitcoins to your own bitcoin address.
this is bad for your privacy and security and is not recommended.

AFAIK electrum unfortunately does only allow to create new 'receiving' addresses via the console, but no change addresses.
you can generate new change addresses via wallet.create_new_address(True). put in a loop to make many change addresses.
|
|
|
what version of electrum are you using and what is your operating system?
it should generate the new change addresses automatically on restore. try switching servers via tools > network, right click on a server and select use server. If that doesn't do it go to wallet menu > addresses > filter then on the addresses tab you can fine tune the display using the filter selections up top. See if you can find the missing change address. ctrl+f can also be used to search for addresses on the addresses tab.

these days, i'm so paranoid about exchange exit scams, etc that i keep the vast majority of funds in BTC (offline) and keep a stack for high-leverage hedging (mostly futures).
that's clever!

they test it for powerloss during usage. it is robust enough to recover from that as you've found out.
btw how did you manage to disconnect the hard drive of a running system? did you like open up the case and physically remove the sata cable?
