1381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Silk Road's Ulbricht Win Appeal? on: July 06, 2015, 02:46:03 PM
-snip-

We will replace them with men who deserve to be behind bars, like the banksters who greedily destroyed billions of other peoples' wealth (including pensions), and the treasonous corporate crony politicians who wipe their asses with our constitution for personal gain.

Amen to that.
I wonder when (and IF) that is going to happen.
History has shown otherwise.
Look at Greece and Cyprus for example.
1382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you mine bitcoins with a toaster? YES you can! on: July 06, 2015, 02:01:02 PM
What I find hilarious about this post is that it goes both ways....
You can actually toast some bread with your miner,
you just simply put your toast bread on top of it while it's hashing Shocked Shocked Shocked
toasted bread in minutes Wink
1383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Distribute bitcoin to every Greek citizen on: July 06, 2015, 01:29:25 PM
yes it's much better a new currency (P2P)… how you found the btc for all greeks?
and how to explain to helder people this new way for send receive payment, if they don't use a smartphone or a pc?

are you convinced by this? if they start a p2p currency with their own blockchain, they would not be in a better position instead of going with their old dracma, both coin will be worthless, and the first will be seen as a scam, also i don't think any Government can seriously think about making a p2p currency, they look at them as a joke i believe, and don't forget that they will not have the control over it, this is a major let down for every government

I don't think any Government will create a p2p decentralized currency.
A centralized currency definitely, but it is not now and it's not Greece.
It's too early for something like this to happen I think.
1384  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core Password recovery Service on: July 06, 2015, 01:23:53 PM
It's pretty weird that he was able to bruteforce the password in such a long time. How long was your password and did it contain special characters?

What is truly weird is that the OP is advertising a/his (potentially malicious) service/website and some people failed to see that. Roll Eyes
1385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can the blockchain be frozen of miners stop validating transactions? on: July 06, 2015, 01:11:29 PM
i read somewhere that if all or so many of the miners turn off their mining equipment and stop mining, then the difficulty would decrease drastically.
so i think blockchain can not be frozen! as long as at least one person is mining bitcoin. and since the difficulty would be so low by then, solo mining would be doable.
well yes but not immediately, it need two week for that, mainwhile other miners will jon the party, because of the poissible profit

so in the end the diff will never decrease, and that's the reason why POW is great, because as long as there is profit to be made there will be always miners that will join the network it's a self sustaining thing

Difficulty adjusts every 2016 block, not two weeks. Even when new miners join the mining, if remaining hashing power is let's say 10% of hashing power before, blocks would take an average of 100 minutes. If my calculations are correct, will take around 4 months to the next difficulty adjustment. After the adjustment, difficulty will drop very low, so blocktimes are back to average of 10 minutes.

Actually, AFAIK, the difficulty will go down up to a point (and to gradually get to the point of a block found on 10 minute average).
Basically there is a limit on how much the difficulty can go up or down.
1386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain split of 4 July 2015 on: July 06, 2015, 01:01:38 PM
I have a hard time believing that F2pool and AntPool did this by accident.

However I also cant see their profit motive in this case since everyone knew what was happening.

It seems they just wasted time/money on the wrong chain with no benefit.

What am I missing?

It was an accident, or more like their speed "cheat" cost them a few thousands of dollars.
If it was intentional then there was going to be transactions included in the blocks they found.
And there were no transactions in their blocks.
1387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Silk Road's Ulbricht Win Appeal? on: July 06, 2015, 12:53:08 PM
There is not even a 0.0000001% chance that his sentence will be reduced. The FBI want to make an example out of him. They want to scare other possible future dark market admins using his example. Accept it. Ross Ullbricht will remain imprisoned for the rest of his life, unless he manages to escape from the prison.

He is a very high level scumbag and he belongs in jail forever.  Why would they reduce his sentence?  They aren't making an example of him, he earned every day of confinement.  He paid to kill people.  He set up the largest drug trade market ever.  I am surprised he didn't get the death penalty.  Why did they go easy on him?

They didn't.
I don't know if you heard by he will be locked up in a box 23 hours a day for the rest of his life.
They should have gave him the death penalty but they didn't because they want him to suffer.
He will go crazy and eventually start coming up with ways to end his life.
I doubt that would be possible though.

Does that sound like "going easy on him"?
1388  Other / Meta / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto is a member of this forum on: July 05, 2015, 12:46:46 PM
I still thing Satoshi is a group of people and many of them are still hanging around here.

Imagine if it was later revealed and you were one of the users who went into a flame war with one of the original members of the Satoshi gang on something technical on a thread on this forum.

It would create a real chuckle amongst them, if that happened.  Roll Eyes

Actually, Satoshi Nakamoto IS a member of these forums and the reason he didn't spend any of his coins is because he probably created a new coin.

True story... Roll Eyes

1389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING: blockchain split on: July 04, 2015, 01:36:23 PM
As part of the BIP66 rules, once 950 of the last 1,000 blocks were version 3 (v3) blocks, all upgraded miners would reject version 2 (v2) blocks.

Early morning UTC on 4 July 2015, the 950/1000 (95%) threshold was reached. Shortly thereafter, a small miner (part of the non-upgraded 5%) mined an invalid block--as was an expected occurrence. Unfortunately, it turned out that roughly half the network hash rate was mining without fully validating blocks (called SPV mining), and built new blocks on top of that invalid block.

Note that the roughly 50% of the network that was SPV mining had explicitly indicated that they would enforce the BIP66 rules. By not doing so, several large miners have lost over $50,000 dollars worth of mining income so far.

The bolded points:

95% of the network was claiming to be mining v3 blocks,
50% of the network was SPV mining,
but only 50% of the SPV miners were claiming to be mining v3 blocks?

Doesn't that mean that 50% of the SPV miners, and so 25% of the network wasn't claiming to be mining v3 blocks?

If so, how did we reach the 95% trigger?

Perhaps they were only claiming to be mining v3 blocks but not actually doing so... ?
1390  Other / Meta / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto is a member of this forum on: July 04, 2015, 01:17:48 PM
Even though I believe Satoshi is still lurking these forums, I highly doubt he registered under a different alias.
He has nothing more to offer and I doubt he has any questions to ask Wink
1391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING: blockchain split on: July 04, 2015, 08:39:41 AM
Did anybody else notice that (at the time of writing this) the 3 biggest pools have exactly 51% of the total hashrate between them?
I do not think it is relevant. Just an observation.
1392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you tell kids about bitcoin? on: July 01, 2015, 06:56:07 AM
What for you want to explain Bitcoin to a kid? Average kid hardly understands concept of money at all. It is too abstract for a young brain. Forget about Bitcoin god sake. Leave them joy of childhood.

You would be surprised to see how smart kids are nowadays.

To the subject: I would make an animated cartoon explaining Bitcoin and how it works.
Then I would give them part of their allowance in Bitcoin.
Then take it from there Smiley
1393  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Taxes and advice regarding Bitcoin needed? on: June 30, 2015, 06:27:49 PM
Hello everyone.

I have a sports book that I use to be sports on daily. I live in NY and when I get a payout there's a new option for Bitcoin. Whatever you cash out from the sports book, $1000 being the maximum, they'll send to you the amount in Bitcoin to I guess your wallet address or whatever.

I did a little research and figured out that you'll need to use block chain to receive the Bitcoin, transfer to coin base, then sell it, then transfer to your bank account.

I make 600-1000$ a week on the betting, and would get 2-4.5 or so in Bitcoin a week.

Regarding taxes, how would I go about paying taxes if necessary? And how much would the taxes be?

Any and all advice would help

Thank you

Regarding taxes, an accountant from your country should be able to help.

Regarding cashing out, you do not necessarily need to use coinbase to sell your Bitcoins.
There are many exchanges but you can also use localbitcoins.com and sell your coins using a variety of payment methods.

Hope that helps Smiley
1394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Real Untold Story Of Government's Takedown of Silk Road on: June 30, 2015, 12:05:11 PM
I kind of expected it that they would make an example out of Ross.
And that is exactly what happened.
Life without parole is the worst he could get.

We will see what happens if there is an appeal.
1395  Economy / Goods / Re: 1:1 Samsung Galaxy S6 clone w/ original box. on: June 30, 2015, 11:36:42 AM
www.aliexpress.com is filled with these things. They look exactly the same as the original, but the hardware stats suck.

I got a Note 3 bout a couple years back.
They do look exactly the same, but the hardware specs are lower.
But I wouldn't say they suck, they are actualy quite good considering the price you pay.
In fact, for the price you pay I would say you get a sweet deal Wink
1396  Economy / Goods / Re: ★ Vaporizers ★ Cannabis Seeds ★ Smoking Accessories ★ Botanical Herbs ★ on: June 30, 2015, 11:29:56 AM
Interesting shop.
Are the sections on the top all active? (Tech, Art, Clothing, etc)
Can someone order from those products too?
1397  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Next level Bitcoin stress test -- June 29-30 13:00 GMT 2015 on: June 30, 2015, 11:20:50 AM
KingAfurah, will the stress test happen today? What went wrong yesterday?

So the test failed? Or, the test will be run today?
I found the previous test quite interestng and I was expecting to see updates on this test too.
I guess I will have to wait.
1398  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Twitter Campaign for Greece ! Mustread for All on: June 30, 2015, 09:48:01 AM
But how will they buy the coins?  It is a pita to get them, they can't just buy them at the store.  Plus their money is stuck in the banks.  There will be serious limits at the banks for the near future because the Greek government knows that the run will continue.  So imo it is too late for the Greek people to take advantage of bitcoins.

That's what I am saying too.
People will keep their €60 per day, cash at hand in case they need it.
And the majority of shops/businesses will ONLY accept cash now.
1399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Australians are ready for a future of digital currency!" on: June 30, 2015, 09:24:37 AM
as long as they will not use their centralized blockchain and they will adopt bitcoin directly, without creating an altcoin, like many other want to do, then it will be fine

but they first need to rise the awareness about bitcoin, because 66% say no about "what is bitcoin" is a big %, and cannot be ignored

Of course they will create their own coin with it's own revolutionary centralized blockchain.
They just wanted to know if the people will use it, and 1/3 is good enough to start making the change.
1400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Greece's first Bitcoin ATM installed on: June 30, 2015, 09:17:08 AM
Does this ATM dispense cash ? Or only take cash for BTC?

Good question.
If it's one way then one can only buy Bitcoins.
That is however IF they got cash because of the capital control and €60 per day limit.

If it's two way, then Bitcoiners might be able to get some cash if needed, now that the banks are closed.
That is however IF the BTM has cash :-/
