13821  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: I will be making some s9 space heaters. on: June 11, 2020, 03:20:36 AM
I got three test boards designed to fit in an s9

they do 5.3-5.5 a board at about 320 watts.

I may be able to get a lot of them.

since they are 52-55 watts a th they are not really cheap.

not sure if I can get 30 or 40 of them to make better 1 and 2 board gear.

i will post again

you can also look at hardware to see the test thread.

this is the newer better board thread.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5253561.msg54598149;boardseen#new

I have zero idea if I get boards in bulk
I have zero idea if price will be good.

but I would buy 30 boards at correct price.
13822  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 255 blocks solved! on: June 11, 2020, 03:16:10 AM
another reason is there will be 10 of thousands of s9's on the cheap.

I have developed quiet cheap modded 2 board s9's that can mine here. use 400 watts and do 4.7th quietly

So having a space heater first mining here its a dirt cheap way of a chance at big money.

Space heater down clocked s9's can be made for 100 or less they will last for years.

My two board pulls 377 watts.

I owned the s9 already the modes were about 13 dollars.

so 13 dollars and .03 btc is about 300 dollars. {I donated 0.03 btc}

1 year of 400 watt mining is about  10 x 365 =3650 kwatts at 15 cents = 550 a year.

550+300 = 850 for a 1 year shot at 6.25 btc

the miner is quiet.  it will help add warmth in the winter.

I am running the quiet s9 over night.

Do you have a thread where you discuss these mods? It just so happens I have an s9 laying around with one bad hash board, and I'd love to give this mod a try.

I have two threads in hardware.

I also sold six in marketplace.

I will link them in a bit.

Thank you philipma1957! I was not expecting such a prompt reply.  Smiley

yeah i just got online  i went to hardware and set up four threads for you to read.

this is the sales thread but I won't be selling anything for weeks. has info and photos.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5243761.msg54305587#msg54305587.  . . no sales for now

here are all mod threads.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5213936.0. not mine but a clever mod of s9's

the goal for all the threads above is to build decent solo miners for this pool.
13823  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New s9 upgrade thread. some info is up. on: June 11, 2020, 02:32:36 AM
I like these hash boards so much I ordered some better quality fans and will test some more.

I locked the older s9 mod threads.

I would not mind having three 1 board miners using these hash boards.

hashing at 6th and using about 320 watts.
13824  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with s9's and dead temp sensors. on: June 11, 2020, 02:27:28 AM
locking this it will move downward. in step with the older thread.

13827  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The second biggest mistake I made in mining. on: June 11, 2020, 12:21:28 AM
my Mistakes.

Not holding early mining gains.

I have had 57 btc free and clear and did not hold it.
It Was worth about 9 a coin.

At those prices it was cheap enough to hold.  Down side would be only a 500 dollar loss.

The lowest price btc I ever earned was 6 dollars.

The highest price btc I ever earned was 20000 dollars.

that is an expansion of 3333 to 1.

I simply do not see BTC ever doing an expansion like that. 3333 x 10,000 = 33,330,000 a coin. that simply won't happen.

I Think some lesser coins could do 100x. what they are now.

I hold 1,600,000 Doge. worth about 4100 usd.

I could see it being 10x what it is now far more easily then I can see btc worth 98,000 a coin.

My goal is to have 10,000,000 doge

or to sell all my doge if it reaches 10 cents before I get to 10,000,000 doge. that is about 38x bigger then it is now.

I still hold BTC
I also hold LTC

Guy on Telegram that has a company repairing Bitmain stuff in USA.  Not sure if he does Z11 but contact Gerald and see @Sapiente7

I used him a few times. Tell him Minerdude sent ya.  No commission or anything

yeah I think they are from north carolina  hmtech

https://hmtech.co/

you can mention me.  I am not sure they repair z11's

but they fixed 2 of my  whatsminer 20s units.

do they make 10mh and 100 watts?

I am thinking of buying 2

Well I did not post here for a few days hoping to see an improvement.

Latest Block:   634040  (24 minutes ago)
Current Pace:   117.2650%  (1017 / 867.27 expected, 149.73 ahead)
Current Difficulty:   13732352106018.34
Next Difficulty:   between 15448678128808 and 16103774579638
Next Difficulty Change:   between +12.4984% and +17.2689%
Previous Retarget:   last Thursday at 8:30 AM
Next Retarget (earliest):   Tuesday at 7:02 AM  (in 5d 21h 59m 9s)
Next Retarget (latest):   Tuesday at 7:11 PM  (in 6d 10h 8m 0s)
Projected Epoch Length:   between 11d 22h 31m 49s and 12d 10h 40m 40s

It is quite impressive we are still over +15% with 999 block to go.

and price is around 9763

a fast calculation below

100 th at 50 watts. earns 9.07 and uses 120 k-watts thus

9.07 -0.00 = 9.07. with 'free' power.  and this does not count labor
9.07 -1.20 = 7.87. with 1 cent power
9.07 -2.40 = 6.67  with 2 cent power
9.07 -3.60 = 5.47  with 3 cent power
9.07 -4.80 = 4.27. with 4 cent power
9.07 -6.00 = 3.07. with 5 cent power
9.07 -7.20 = 1.87  with 6 cent power
9.07 -8.40 = 0.67. with 7 cent power

lets say we do go 15%. the 9.07 becomes

7.71-0.00 = 7.71 with 'free' power
7.71-1.20 = 6.51 with 1 cent
7.71-2.40 = 5.31 with 2 cent
7.71-3.60 = 4.11 with 3 cent
7.71-4.80 = 2.91 with 4 cent
7.71-6.00 = 1.71 with 5 cent
7.71-7.20 = 0.51 with 6 cent  power

I used 50 watt gear as my number because I think as of now the network may be close to 50 watt gear.

As a fellow stats nerd, this is quite interesting stuff. Good job.

The average trust score (across all weeks) is 8, with a standard deviation of 10.

I went ahead and calculated everybody's average and ranked them, lol.

So what happens when a person misses a week or more.

If some one is on the list 60 days with a 10 he would have 600.

so do you do. 600/60 = 10.  or 600/68 =   8.82
13832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers are at it again. Now attacking large corporations for more money. on: June 10, 2020, 03:18:37 AM
I think it's the other way around, hackers have been targeting large corporations because:

  • They can ask for big ransom money
  • Security is very lax to say the least
  • They can get very sensitive information that they can use to leverage, sell it to dark market for thousands of dollars
  • Companies are embarrassed and will likely to pay

As compare to home based users, which they can get a cheap $30-$100 per ransom. And most of the time they're not paying for it. So it makes sense for a big hacking group to attack large corporations and companies. The bigger the target, the bigger the money they can get.
I wouldn't underestimate. There are many out there who'd give $100 or even $200 for their files to be decrypted, imagine having all the personal pictures & videos since you were a little kid on a HDD and suddenly falling victim to such hack. Besides all of that, if you're lucky enough as a hacker you could even be hired for achieving something only few (or nobody else) have been able to achieve. Smiley

Hackers demanding ransom in BTC have been around for a long time. They've been around ever since the Internet went commercial in fact, but they used to ask for USD/EUR instead. It's not as if since BTC's existence hacks went wild - it's just the MSM shaping up this idea that cryptos are for thieves.

At the moment I have six sets of my videos and photos.

1 in my safety box
1 at my bro in law in a different state
3 at home
1 set of photos on imgur
1 set of videos on  YouTube

The smile I just had is worth a few merits.

This reminds me of a scene from an old abbot and costello skit.

they bet on the three in the third race on march third.

the call of the race was as follows:

“there off you lose”

we are pretty much screwed either way the election goes.
13834  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - shutdown mining 2020-07-01 website 2021-06-01 on: June 09, 2020, 11:15:28 PM
Yep, but note I asked if hash rate stayed the same..

So I suppose I'm asking, why leave in the first place..

If your 2% shrinks to 1%, the leaving 1% must've thought their bread buttered better elsewhere..

But if it's all luck, and your 1 larger payment at BM every 30 days is about on par with 30 way smaller payments elsewhere every day, then why leave?

Just psychological for one or two at first, but that's enough to start the snowball rolling?

Or, were they definitely better off elsewhere?

When YOU moved, if ONLY you had moved, would you have been better off longer term?

So out of interest, why have many folks moved on? Assuming hashrate about the same, all pools must pay out about the same, give or take?
pool shrinks a bit  say from 2% to 1%
this is about 6 blocks every 2 days down to 3 blocks every 2 days.
this happened a while back.
then a cold streak.  I left when this pool had back to back .99 cdf  so you hit  2 blocks in  11 days vs  less then 2 days.
during the cold streak when I left 7 of 10 blocks were .90 cdf or higher.
crazy bad variance.
A lot of us left at that time
pools share got lower then 1%
lower than 0.5%
so on and so forth.

We did back to back .99 cdf and we did 6 or 7 blocks of 10  over .92 cdf

the math of back to .99 cdf is 10000 to 1 shot.

then add in 5 of 8 over .92 cdf

odds are really high for that to have happened.

it is more likely the pool was under attack.

point shit miners that can't hit a block at nicehash to hide them  then rent from nicehash and point the miners to bitminter.   your cost is around 6%.

ie every 100 btc you get back 94 btc.

back in the day the math showed this was happening often.  to a lot of smaller pools.

in that 10 block stretch where bitminter had 7 of 10 over .92 cdf with a back to back .99 cdf

it became obvious to me that any smaller pool could be attacked this way.

I mostly moved to viabtc and nicehash  as you get .96 percent luck or better every day.

about .52 cdf for certain.

Small pools are subject to these attacks unless they have a lot of certain hash from a big miner.

kano.is  has made over 2500 blocks  first 1500 blocks they were .48 cdf really good number.

last 1000 blocks .53 cdf

long bad luck streaks kill off pools.

You have a ton of other risks involved.

I am the main miner at mmpool.org

we have not hit in 2 years. plus   I am due 1.1 btc if we hit today.

So every day I am at constant risk of the pool shutting down.

I can't do this

at kano.is
ckpool.org
bitminer.com
mmpool.org

I have to point a lot of my hash at a certain payoff pool.
13835  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Whatsminer M30 / M31 Reliability + Warentee Experiences. on: June 09, 2020, 03:26:35 AM
If you are in USA. you can send to hmtech in North Carolina. They are legit and have a contract with MicroBT.com. that is the actual builder.

I have contact info for hmtech

They have sold me 2 replacement p21 pSU's to be used with my m20s units.

Once. all the USA confusion settles with Covid-19, the protests and the riots over the Killing in minnesota.

My partner and I may purchase 2ph worth of m30s or even m20s

I have been using their whatsminer tool 5.0.2. it is excellent for remote controlling miners.

I have owned

1   m3
10 m10
1   m21
2.  m20s

other then 2 things

1) the people in Carolina have been good to me and  I am in NJ fast cheap shipping

2) plus I like the whatsminer 5.0.2 tool

Bitmain has been more reliable from jan of 2019 to June of 2020

I have

22 s17 pro
1.  s15
3   s17
1   t15
4.  s9k
2   t17e
2.  t17+
1.  s17+

they all work the worst are the s9k
also 1 s17pro is flakey

btw the guys in Carolina will fix the bitmain gear for me. have yet to fix them as they are hanging in there

I have to decide to buy gear this year to replace the s9's and the l3+ that I run

I may go with what miners.

13837  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 "Locate" code on: June 09, 2020, 02:24:33 AM
yeah right now one router optimum has four or five miners.

they stay there for three to four weeks.

then move to verizon 96 to 100 miners.

all have longer passwords.  and i try to use only bitmain's virus resistant firmware.

which means you need access to sdcard slot to change firmware.
13838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with 20kWh of free power on: June 09, 2020, 01:15:10 AM
So, I had some calculations, and it looks like I'd better go with one of these options:
1) get a bank loan and go big directly with either about 54+ 5700RX's with an average ROI of 11months or 10+ A10 innosilicon with again a ROI of 12months
2) just get about 18x 5700RX and upgrade year by year reinvesting everything, still ROI in 11months

However in both cases, with the threat of ETH going POW, I guess the A10 innosilicon isn't a good deal, is it?  Huh
In the 54+ GPU case I think I'm gonna have to spend about 4 to 6 hours per day just to check on crashes though, does them crash that often?

if you are willing to use simplemining.net and pay 2 bucks a month per rig the gear is very stable and you can access it from any pc in the world.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1541084.0

i point 4 rigs to him and pay him 8 dollar a month.

the rigs are in two locations one it 100 kilometers from my house one is 10 kilometers.

In the last year I had to check  on the units in person only 3 times.  well worth the 96 USD I paid for the year.
13839  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New s9 upgrade thread. some info is up. on: June 08, 2020, 07:26:13 PM
Exactly they are a non bitmain company .

They made 51 chip boards vs 63 chips.

But the pcb board is the exact size as an Antminer board.

Here are some screen shots. showing a two board  running. the gui mining status and the pool numbers.

this uses 616 watts. to do 11th. about 56-57 watts a th.

I need a lot more testing on this.

I will be making  a you tube soon.

since it is a non bitmain chip the freq range is different then the s9 chips.

low setting with tuning tries freq 450 with best volts/watts

pll option allows you to pick any freq from 450-570 and then try to tune for best efficient numbers

since my hope is building better space heaters I asked if I can go lower then freq 450 and use the pll tuning .

so I am trying 2 boards and pll freq 400 option.

hope to drop hash rate to 9-10th and power to 520-560

auto tuning takes more then 20 minutes

here is a nice feature temp of every chip.
look at middle board it is not connected in any way  reads -99

freq set of 400 yields

watts at 531
hash at 10.31
only 51-52 watts a th

this is actually better then expected

looked pool side and I get

watts at 531
hash at 9.84 th
about 53-54 watts a th.  this is what I expected to get.

I use this psu and volts supplied to it are 240

My braiins gear does about 85 watts a th. I can set it lower then freq 400. so I can do 300 watts to 350 watts with a two board miner braiins. but far less efficient then this gear.

I will run this at freq 400 for a few more hours

I will drop to freq 350   to see if we can get lower watts and not lose efficiency.

It would be nice to go to 475 watts and 8.75 th.  on freq 350.

here are freq 350 numbers.

the settings

the hash gui
note that fan sensor is weird I will replace fan to see if it goes away

replaced fan. and get correct readings so fan had a bad tach wire.
looks like at freq 350   watts are steady at 463

and hash fluxes from 7700 to 8400.  I am going to run over night to see if it gets a more stable hash rate.

I will also see viabtc long time avg

if it does 8000 at 463  it is 56-58 watts.  if it does 8400 it is 54-55 watts

has some promise I just got new s9 drop in kit from a builder

I can do 1  2 or 3 boards

3 boards on low give me 16 th and 900 watts  this is about 56-57 watts a th

2 boards on low give me 11 th and 616 watts  this is about 56-57 watts a th

I am thinking of making improved low power miners. using the s9 shell and s9 fans and s9 controllers and of course drop in these new boards.
