Regulatory pressure has been a big problem for Mt. Gox according to Karpeles:

“The pressure we got from banks and governments make things very hard”

So suddenly it's not the malleability?

I don't think it ever was, and if it was they were aware of the malleability problem and chose not to act even when they were told to by devs. In their defence though they have had a hard time from banks and governments, but that shouldn't excuse their shoddy business practices and behaviour.
13942  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-02-25 LaTimes: Bitcoin virtual currency on verge of collapse on: February 26, 2014, 05:22:12 PM
Wow.. look at the comments. So much butthurt and envy

This is to be expected on all mainstream media articles that allow comments. A load of technophobes and cryptobleb naysayers who can't wait to tell you I told you so to every piece of misinformation they see.

"Enemy action", I would guess, rather than spontaneous reactions from Joe and Jane Lunchbucket. There must be entities heavily invested in making crypto fail and sock-puppetry has become a standard tool of Big Anything. Joe and Jane presumably don't care much about BTC one way or the other.

Cui bono.

I'm not sure there's a conspiracy to it, that's just the general masses for you. They fear what they don't understand, and when they finally do understand it it's either too late or they missed the boat.

Average people don't bother to write letters to editors or comments on newspaper websites, in my experience. They are preoccupied with other things. Why should the average person bother to get worked up about any article that they perceive does not affect them directly? People who comment generally have skin in the game, or think they do. Other than these folks, of course:

http://www.theguardian.com/science/head-quarters/2014/feb/25/internet-trolls-are-also-real-life-trolls

Because they fear or are envious of it or just need something to fill their petty and pathetic lives up. They see people getting rich off Bitcoin and are sceptical and/or daren't put money in it and just naysay, then when something goes wrong or they see FUD they love to prove themselves right. Just look at the comments in any crappy tabloid paper. One headline might be Look How Good Kim Kardashian's Beach Body Looks Only Two Months After Giving Birth or whatever, and people will see it who don't care one iota about KK and decide to comment on it saying how ugly or fat she is or whatever. It shouldn't affect them, but it does, and this is the internet so they can say what they want without repercussion.

This is the golden question. If he has the private keys somewhere, then he would get access to it.

If he had the private keys he would already have access.
13944  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn up to 2.4 BTC/Month by Posting on: February 26, 2014, 05:08:01 PM
Stunna someone is paying 0.0005 per post 2.5 btc maximum per month.

Interesting, but we all know what usually happens when a new casino pops up offering more than Stunna.

What is happening to them? Smiley

I don't know Smiley
?

anyway this 0.0005BTC per post seems interesting ... we just need to wait to see is it legit...

I asked if he is willing to use escrow, and he just deleted my post. It is self moderated and its most likely a scam.
He will deleted all post that ask about legit or whatever like proof own btc. Try ask if you want to see it
Yes I agree he is deleting all posts which are against his views and asking for any thing about escrow just because of this its seems some scamy

That doesn't look good even if he intends to pay out. He did payout on his sig deal before, but it was an upfront payment and one guy massively abused it by buying accounts and signing up for it haha.

So god made up a rule that Eve couldn't eat a stupid apple, which she did. (if he created women, he should know how they are Tongue)
So than he made up a punishment for us, we would rot in hell for eternity because of that one stupid apple. After a while he made a child, and than killed it and said, you know what, because I killed my own son which was fun enough. You can go all free, but you know, those 10 laws I made up a while ago, you still need to follow those because else I will still punish you till eternity. And you got to worship me and be really thankful to my son, because if I didn't get him killed. I would make your lives even worse.

Yeah, I understand you fear that god, he has some real issues.

I don't think there's any point in trying to use logic here because that and facts don't apply. It simply comes down to whatever faith you've been brainwashed with and they won't change their mind for anything.

And why does your god gives forgiveness for everything unless you don't believe in him, I was baptized and did those 2 ceremonial things when I was a child (no clue how they're called in English).

Christening, Confirmation and First Holy Communion are usually the things you do.
13946  Other / Politics & Society / Re: goodbye iOS. hello Android. :) on: February 26, 2014, 05:00:54 PM
How 'bout a Linux phone :

Ubuntu Phone

IMHO no use with iOS, Android or Mobile Windows in terms of secure privacy - as they all have numerous backdoors deeply nested in their core OS.
I repeat: After these privacy issues on the desktop OS, you are still thinking about Ubuntu Phone?
Go to privacy settings and turn off "Include online search results" solves the whole privacy issue. Source is completely open so you can look for any backdoors. Roll Eyes

I still prefer this over any os where you can be 100% sure your data is send to national security agencies and used for marketing purposes

Ubuntu has privacy issues or Apple?

LOL so much misinformation in that article. And it is on the front of the actual newspaper this morning! I find the website's comments particularly hilarious. Notta one had correct spelling and punctuation.

It was actually on the front page? Must be a slow day for news, but I don't understand why they would publish such crap unless they've got an ulterior motive.

If he is not interested anymore just send me the wallet and I will try to bruteforce it. I will send you half of it, if I found the password.  Smiley

As I said, I dind't found a wallet file, but just the address / public key which I now know belongs to him and I'm desperately trying to contact him.

Haha. What does it matter if you have his address or public key? If you had his private ones he might be interested.

why is he still NOT in the jail ?
Love to know how THAT legislation works??? A US subpoena served on a Japan based company?Huh? Do they even have a US presence??

They operate business in USA. I think it was the US restrictions that caused all the delays with getting verified etc in the first place. Also, since when does America care where you're based (see Megaupload etc).

I haven't read the documents yet as I suspected they were fake or was waiting for verification, but from what I've read from others this isn't good. Gonna see what they say now.

For what crime? He's hasn't been found guilty or accused of any crime yet. Well, other than running a shoddy business, but I'm not sure if that's an arrestable offence, but maybe something will come to light soon which he will be legally accountable for.
13953  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-25] Why Regulating Bitcoin Won’t Work on: February 26, 2014, 04:26:16 PM
A self-regulatory organization (SRO) could be created which serves to provide guidance and supervision to exchanges.  This would not involve governments, but an elected group, probably elected by various exchanges, regarding the operation of the exchanges.  Joining would be completely voluntary.  Public confidence in bitcoin would increase.  Finally, mistakes (or fraud) in situations like gox would be greatly reduced.

this^.

But when you elect a group of people they will gradually essentially become a government and that's when corruption comes in, then we're back to square one. "Probably elected by various exchanges", would just bring in people with corporate interests and become some sort of Bitcoin Foundation (look how well that's been going). The people who join these groups and rise to power usually have self or other business interests motivating them.

But the exchanges would not have to join the SRO.  I would feel more confident sending money to an exchange which I know is being supervised to some extent compared to one like gox which was not supervised at all, and was obviously making terrible errors or even engaging in fraud.  If you want to buy bitcoin from an exchange that is not affiliated with the SRO, you could do that.  The point is the public (and the exchanges) should have the choice.

Whilst I understand that, I think the question who polices the police comes into play. These bodies are always corruptible. Say if Gox was being monitored and someone finds a problem, all gox has to do is bribe somebody to keep it to themselves or not tell anyone about it. They could also just hide the problem or cover it up and hope nobody notices. I also think people should be wise enough to just use their own initiative and shouldn’t deal with shoddily run business like gox anyway. I've been saying for months I cannot fathom how people even still used them or how it was even still in business.

But most of the time if you increase the money they will accept.  Smiley

I guess it's not about the money but standards and safety. An extra £50 for some fat sweaty psychopath who's going to stab you at the end of it probably isn't worth it  Cheesy.

13956  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-02-25 You are 6% Richer Non-Gox Users bitcoin exchange is at 'turning point on: February 26, 2014, 04:05:56 PM
Not quite sure how you worked this out. If 6% of coins were stolen from Gox, they're still very much in circulation. If Gox lost the keys, then you'd be correct.

yep, thats true.

Maybe the password protected offline stored coins were stolen. Or maybe gox just lost them but is blaming theft. Mark probably just kept them in a lunchbox in his desk or something  Grin.
13957  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-26] Mt Gox Bitcoin 'Theft' Faces Japan Probe on: February 26, 2014, 04:03:13 PM
Speculation.

Thought as much. Bloody media. Mark does no favours by refusing to comment on things which then fuel the speculation though.

I love how someone made a graph on their height. I guess they've got to get bigger everytime or it'll be a bit anti-climactic.

I'm also completely unexcited for this movie. Got a bit tired of the whole giant monster / giant machines break and blow everything up genre.
13960  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014 - 2 - 15] With MtGox Dead, Bitcoin Enters Its Third Stage of Evolution on: February 26, 2014, 03:51:00 PM
I'm not sure we can announce Gox as officially dead yet. I'd say it's in a coma and it's not looking good though  Grin.
Even if they got a new CEO, announced new partners, and relocated to singapore (for better banking) like they are proposing, I doubt many people would ever trust them with their money again.

I agree. I'm not saying they'll pull through, but gox hasn't been buried yet, but it received the fatal blows long ago it's just still bleeding out. Even if/when it dies it's going to leave a bit of a mess that'll need clearing up, but the sooner gox goes six feet under the sooner we can move on. I also think Mark will be pretty much blacklisted from the community after this.
