14921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NY just announced a MANDATORY Bitcoin license - if this concerns you sign this. on: February 12, 2014, 01:11:49 PM

If the regulation of Bitcoin concerns you, please sign this letter to regulator Ben Lawsky

http://bitcoinfinancialassociation.org/regulation/

I thought the whole point was to get Bitcoin finally regulated

There are different opinions. I, for one, do not want bitcoin to get regulated, at least not the way most people want.

Regulation in some form will come whether people like it or not. Governments aren't gonna sit back and let people launder it freely. They'll expect their cut somewhere down the line.
14922  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buying and Selling Bitcoin for Dollars? AKA Coinbase worse than PayPal. on: February 12, 2014, 01:08:52 PM
Try a different payment processor like Bitpay.
14923  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How ridiculous is the newbie restriction?! on: February 12, 2014, 01:05:36 PM
I wonder if having a pop-up message before newbs tried to post informing them of the restrictions would it stop half of this crap in here?
That would be just too easy  Grin

The NEWBIE README is here, if any noobs would like to read it while they while away their mandatory 4 hours.

By the way, the NEWBIE README, while having great information, does not say how many posts are required to escape "newbie jail" or how many hours of browsing the forums are required.

That's because there is no limits now.
14924  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin ATM? on: February 12, 2014, 01:01:20 PM
I heard there is one in London I think  Undecided

I don't think there's any in London or the UK yet, but there are plans for them. You can buy coins throughout the UK with Zip-zap though.
14925  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Buy and Sell Large Quantity of Bitcoin in the USA? on: February 12, 2014, 12:59:51 PM
I tried Coinbase and it sucked. Tried for a week to get credit card and identity verified but could not. Zero customer service. Only got copy and pasted answers to my emails and no phone number.

Where else can I go to buy large quantities of bitcoins and sell them quickly in the USA?

Thanks,
 Smiley

What about localbitcoins? Be careful how much you sell though, or you might catch the attention of the Bitcoin Police  Cheesy.
14926  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: when can i change my avatar? on: February 12, 2014, 12:58:37 PM
I was also kinda wondering since I went on a hiatus and when I got back it was suddenly disabled.

Well at least the posts above cleared it up for me.
A question though, how did the hack have anything to do with the avatars again?

Not sure if details were ever made public on that.

The changing of avatars were exploited to gain access to the forum.

I'd like to change mine too long time already  Roll Eyes

Theymos has stated that he can remove the avatar if you wish, but not change it.
14927  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: is alternative coin worth it ? on: February 12, 2014, 12:55:56 PM
Anyone ? I dont want mining and just bought some NEM. Anything else worth it ?

Maybe, just be careful as most alt coins are pump and dump.

Well if you get in early on these pumps and dumps you can make quite a bit, but not if you don't know what you're doing.
14928  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Integrating Bitcoin payments in a shop. How? on: February 12, 2014, 12:53:08 PM

If anybody can tell me which (user friendly) bank to use that transform the BTC into Eur immediately after recieving them (would keept them - but they prefer to change them at least at the beginning), please let me know!

Thanx

You could use a payment processor like Bitpay which will do this for you.
14929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Enjoy? on: February 12, 2014, 12:51:22 PM
I received 2 of these satoshi spams too. They don't cause too much harm, just really annoying being there...
So, I just send all my unspent coins (total balance minus the 2 satoshis) to another address,
and let those satoshis rot there.... (out of sight, out of mind)

So  , have those transactions been confirmed by somebody? I thought no pool will include them.

They'll just stay there unconfirmed most probably.
14930  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [sell] Tracker invites and nzb accounts check the list on: February 12, 2014, 12:42:19 PM

Have you checked any of the others?
14931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Exchanges Affected - Possible Global Shutdown on: February 12, 2014, 12:41:26 PM
Think about who would be doing it and why. It isn't some small group, because they would only hit one or two exchanges.

It is the bankers' behind-the-scenes hackers, or it is the NSA, or CIA, or FBI, or their counterparts in the various governments of the world, like the group that the KGB turned into, or MI6, or you name it.

Bitcoin signals the end of the fiat currencies of the world. Those who are in power don't like that idea. the only way they can legally shut down Bitcoin is to shut down all Internet communications they have so carefully built so that they can rape the people.

I'm not a techie, but if I were, I would be advancing all the different ways that I could think of for maintaining and growing public communications beyond the Internet. I would be working to develop an independent communication grid that is entirely decentralized, yet worldwide, just like Bitcoin is.

Smiley

I tend to agree. It could be a small group just looking to buy "cheap coins" for a few days, but it smells more like an attack from somebody really looking to discredit i.e. destroy the trust in bitcoin. Bankers and a few national governments spring to mind.

2014 is crucial for bitcoin. It has gotten off to a pretty terrible start (Shrem, Gox, now other exchanges). Trust is a very hard thing to gain back.

It's probably just script kiddies and DDOS-ers getting their kicks rather than people trying to get cheap coins.

I have far more trust in the bitcoin ecosystem now knowing that Gox and Shrem—both of whom have caused me not insignificant losses due to their incompetence—are out of the game.

Good riddance.

Agreed. Good riddance to bad rubbish indeed. But there is a queue of bad rubbish waiting to be unveiled in the coming months unfortunately.

And most unfortunately, Gox ain't dead yet either  Embarrassed

It surely can't function for much longer. Why would people use it once they got their coins out of there? And The Bitcoin Foundation needs to ditch Karpeles.
14932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Petition for iPhone wallets on: February 12, 2014, 12:32:16 PM
You need to petition Apple with your money. Ditch the devices then they'll listen.

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/utopia-drug-marketplace-shut-down-by-dutch-police-1436099

Seems another market went down yesterday. I'm sure most will get taken down eventually but others will just pop up to replace them.

14936  Other / Off-topic / Re: How much is my physical novelty/trinkets BTC coins worth? on: February 12, 2014, 11:56:19 AM
Wait. Could someone redeem these bitcoins if they can read a private key off them? I mean if it is possible someone would have done it.

They'll probably be password protected or just receive addresses.
14937  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Official "OMG my wife is about to have a baby" Thread on: February 12, 2014, 11:54:51 AM
WOW!  name him Doge

This dude names his son "Dogecoin" as the first name, I throw in 5 BTCs, but he has to prove it is legally his name.

Not happening, even for 500 btc.  Nope.  No way.  Never

What would be so bad? You can always change his name. You could take the coins and use them as a trustfund for the kid. I doubt gweedo is serious though.
14938  Other / Off-topic / Re: LOLZ @ The Bitcoin Foundation on: February 12, 2014, 11:42:27 AM
They need to kick Karpeles out that's for sure.

What happened?

Take a look around the forum and you should be able to work it out.
14939  Other / Off-topic / Re: A shout out to everybody working long hours to fix the ddos attacks and the mall on: February 12, 2014, 11:39:51 AM
I think it's awesome that this free opensource software project can count on the the devotion of its developers during harsh times like these. Everybody that works at an exchange and everybody submitting patches to all the projects out there: You are awesome.

Even Gox?  Shocked
14940  Other / Off-topic / Re: My generous benefactor... on: February 12, 2014, 11:38:00 AM
Hahah, so cruel. I`d send it back with 2 satoshi just to slap that person in the face.

I wouldn't agitate them. What if they retaliate and constantly spam you with Satoshis?  Cheesy
