For Phil and others here running Nvidia 10xx rigs... I have what is likely a silly question but since I'm coming from only AMD rigs to date, thought I would ask to make sure:

Is it true that GPUs like 1070to, 1080, etc can easily be optimally tuned for mining solely through the settings in MSI After Burner?  Meaning... with my rx 470's, I needed to mod the bios with memory straps in order to get good mining performance from them. Is this piece not applicable at all to Nvidia GPUs?

If the above is true, are there some standard starting points for settings in After Burner that you can recommend? I am relatively familiar with AB as I used it for a while with my 470s, but some of the settings typically mentions for Nvidia tuning did not seem familiar from what I did with the 470's, although maybe that's just due to terminology differences.

That's one of the main benefits and huge draws to team green, the ease of tuning them though Afterburner. Set it, forget it. No bios flashing or strap mods.

And for your z370 question I don't use them but bitsbetrippin migrated to using those so yes, they support 8 according to them and all their builds.

EDIT: you mean the temps. Yes the temps I provided are with the top on. Temps were better with the top on.

Sweet thanks man! Thats exactly what I meant- that's super kick ass temps are that good sealed up like that. I might get one to play around with as well.

I was also toying with the idea of waterblocking everything, but at the end of the day... I'm just too lazy to do all that lol

I found this extremely old Lenovo and was curious if all 4 of the old PCIE slots would be able to run 4 GPU's ... surprisingly... it did. And yes, it's a huge mess, but I'll be dismantling everything as soon as the ram for the D8P's get here lol

Nice, what model is that Lenovo?

I'll check on monday when I go back to the office. I just thought it would be funny to try. The orginal PSU is like 250w or something as well. The computer is just so slim and tiny it's funny to see all the gpus hanging off it.

Those temps are pretty awesome Kayden!

Is that with the top off?
146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How important is the internet connection on: January 14, 2018, 01:44:16 AM
Time Warner offers 3mb for $15 a month, that's what I set up in my garage for 10 Rigs, not an issue at all.

Then for the first month till I could set up internet at the warehouse I was running off my phone tethered to a router running DDWRT for 25 rigs, also no issues.

The only issue you will have with slow internet like that is remoting into them.

Question for you AMD Gurus out there - I've never owned one, just always went with the newest i7's for my desktops -

I upgraded my trading computer to a Ryzen 7 with an ASRock X370 Killer. Threw in 2 watercooled 1080 Ti's in it that's it.

So I go and run XMR stack, and it's showing hash for AMD card along with the CPU's... wtf?? I have no idea why this is if anyone can let me know how this is even possible that would be awesome. It's also valid on the pool side as well, since I was thinking maybe it's just glitching out on my local side.

Anyways, not complaining, just saying it's kind of crazy. It can't be the 1080 Ti's since I have the cuda backend deleted as well.

normal  it will do that.

I know some ways around it.

load nicehash amd legacy

mine the cpu to crypto night and do not check the gpu's

Ah I see it now - it's actually stealing 35% of my Mh/s from 1 of the 1080's.

Thanks Phil

unfortunately I can't change to cryptonite yet - I fucked up and started to mine on supportXMR and they have a .3 min. payout, I'm only @ .1 XMR right now. Such a pita but I have a bunch more Ryzen 7's coming for new builds, hopefully hit that .3 and change to a more profitable algo. So stupid of me.

Have a solid proof of concept before you scale.

Any business.

150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BAIKAL GIANT B - BUY HERE - WWW.BITTAWMART.COM - OUT OF STOCK on: January 10, 2018, 09:32:56 PM
There is a seller on Ebay making claims that contradict everything I know about the Giant B miner and Baikal policies.

He says he just cut a deal today for 20 Giant Bs miners.

He will drop ship from manufacturer

They ship January 20

PSU included.

Bitcoin only .

 I assume its a scam.

Well I can say it's more than likely he's full of shit because I requested 4 times for an order of 20 Giant B's (first time was 10, then I increased to 20 because figure why not 20 if I'm going to buy 10 already?).

Every time I get the standard message everyone gets, don't have, keep checking their page blah blah.

152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Vega 56 64 Frontier Mining Hashrate & Setup ? 3 Month ROI or less? on: January 10, 2018, 07:51:06 AM
I grabbed one to play with I already have two regular vegas and I love them

I'm fighting so hard not to buy a bunch of them. Greed is pushing me towards logging into all my newegg accounts and buying 1 on each of them. I just need to hit the pause button for now.

hmm how do you have multiple newegg accounts lol

i tried that but the same address for shipping the found me out pretty easy , even with different cards since name was the same on cards

*edit - pm'd

My impression on my D8p is that is really well designed/made....   nice thick traces, good etching, layers, attention to detail, etc.   I think the D8P is a winner for 8+ slot large format cards.

I was impressed when I opened it up, I honestly was expecting cheap chinese quality.

What ram ya using Jared

155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New into mining and what is the best thing to do? on: January 10, 2018, 06:35:49 AM
You kids entering mining these days are relatively spoiled when it comes to information.  It's everywhere now and even the grocery bagger knows about Bitcoin.  Reading the forums for hours on end will teach you a lot about crypto and you will learn things you couldn't not afford to test yourself.

To get up to speed quickly just hop on youtube and watch 2 hours of videos on how to mine. Since you were mining ETN you should be able to CPU mine - watch some youtube videos on that. They have videos in every language when I search.

Once your miner is running again, come back here and just start reading. If you can't do that you're better off buying coins and hodling.

Spoiled is putting it lightly. Success is work and sacrifice.

One of my favorite quotes, love psychology as social psychology played an important role for me from investing in stocks, futures & commodities to even Poker, and now transitioned to the Crypto World -

Oh dang that sucks phil!

The D8P is humming away still w/o issue I'm hoping.

What ram are you guys running w/the D8P's?

I was hoping to be able to repurpose a couple of sticks of the Crucial DDR4 2133 1.2v's but I'll take everything to the warehouse tomorrow and see if they fire up. I only received my first batch of ASUS Strix 1080's - first time firing up 1080's but it's all that I found in stock - definitely not happy that they were 8 pin *2 but there's nothing else currently.

Saw this recently - cointaxguide.com

Sharing this link for US miners. I think its 17 bucks to get the guide.

Don't apply to me because I outside the US

Great mining!

Btw, I manage to snag 10 x Zotac 1080ti MINI from my supplier because the original buyer defaulted on payments.
Had no complains taking the inventory -- I may have to bring back some rigs back home... the warehouse is really maxed out - no Amps left.

taxes? never heard of them.

great snag on those 1080 ti's!

The wife will not be pleased.... I may have to build a rig or two mining to her wallet as a compromise.

a rig or 2 that's awesome! that's a hefty fee right there, I'd allocate 1 GPU lol.

She got 1 x S9 mining to her wallet last year - my birthday present to her.

Scored a few browny points there.

And a Batch 13 S9 v1 with 2 working blades is still worth less than a jewelry present !  Grin

Shit - and unlike jewelry it's the gift that keeps on giving!

Having said that, I would recommend you really spend 3-5 days reading through all the major threads here and in other subforums. Mining is work, and people who invest their time researching information often have light bulbs go off that can't be spoonfed.

I have 55 days logged into these forums since 2011 and I wasn't even logged in half the time I was reading. I'm not an expert but I can tell you the time spent was worth every satoshi I've earned.

Couldn't agree more. You're not getting gains by not putting in the work. You're not Led Zepplin by picking up the guitar once a month. etc.

etc

etc

etc
