Rules to avoid being scammed

1) Don't just trust the status of a member, anyone can write 500 posts and be a hero member in a short period. This just means that he invested some time on his membership. He can always decide that a profitable scam will be a good payment for his time.
2) Never deal with anyone without doing a search in the forum with his nickname, in order to check if he has scam accusations.
3) Ask for his coin address and always search it on blockchain.info or www.cryptocoinexplorer.com to verify if his address has the amounts he is claiming.[/b]
4) Be very suspicious about proposals well under market price or if he accepts your proposal under market price with no negotiation.
5) Look for the reputation of the member (his successful trades, in the form of vouches from the other party on the deal).
6) Even if he has some reputation, never send all the money in one transfer: send one first very small tranche (0.1 btc might be a good start) and wait for his payment. Send a second little higher tranche and wait again, etc. Small increments, because he might decide to pay you the first and second, to scam a bigger tranche. Always suspect if he doesn't accept to trade in small tranches.
7) If he has no reputation (including most cases when he is a newbie or a Jr.), even small tranches are a risk. Better use an escrow system, like the one of bitmit.net, or a trusted member, or you might need to send over 10 very small tranches. It can be annoying, but loosing your money will be more.
8] For big amounts always use an escrow system, unless the member has an excellent reputation.

Everybody please read this before making any trades.

I think bitvisitor is bogus. I read a comment here saying the same thing and I just remembered that I used that site like 2 weeks ago and still nothing from them.

If ltc continues being recognized i'd take a gamble on it. but yes the rest seem like a waste of time and pump and dump operations.

Yeah, I honestly feel that Litecoin will be the next bitcoin, lol.

Anyone know aything about minerd --debug showing all (false positive) on Hash > Target
'

wrong thread..
153  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: May 09, 2013, 02:55:53 PM
I actually feel that several of the other alt coins out there may have more potential than bitcoin even.  Litecoin for example is almost identical to bitcoin fundamentally, but can be transacted in 2.5 min to bitcoin's 10.  I also personally feel that alt coins with higher market caps may fare better in the long run, as they will run into fewer psychological barriers associated with high unit price.

That's not to say that the market isn't oversaturated with cryptocurrencies.  We need to see several of them fail.

Exactly this. If we only rely on Bitcoin and that fails, all crypto-currency as we know it will fade.

155  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: May 08, 2013, 04:47:20 PM

True that. It is kind of discouraging when you can only mine .00001 of a bitcoin. Mining a whole Litecoin or something is much more satisfying.

Absolutely. And if you're starting with a cpuminer or small gpu, the transaction fees can really take a bite. Smaller value coins automatically have smaller fees - or at least you can cash out quicker and feel like you're accomplishing something, even if it's in millipennies.

I feel that you also make more if you can save those Alt-Coins, you never know when they might have a huge hit.
156  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How I made My Bitcoins on: May 08, 2013, 04:19:40 PM
I tried buying low and selling high, but I can't find any website that seems to work with this. I have only used bitinstant and that doesn't allow you to buy or sell at a custom price. Any suggestions?
157  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: May 08, 2013, 04:11:02 PM
Almost all of the alt-coins are there are going to be a waste of time.  They're being created to take advantage of people who get super excited about different things and then get pumped and dumped.

Be careful about wasting time with too many alt coins.

Agree, but it is more satisfying to be able to mine whole coins for newcomers, who often don't have much of a setup or GPU. I love the alt coins. They're fun (even if just for now).

What does it mean when you see a public note in your blockchain info https://blockchain.info/address/16CcNWYZjfYYNQFEFCXtxvzWmyYKFg4hyK

Cause my website's wallet has this note for http://www.btcfaucet.blogspot.com not the one just added to list http://www.btcfaucet.blogspot.ca

but they look the same Huh

Is this some form of wallet tags

Thanks for the info Grin

That is indeed my website. I don't know why Portnoy used .ca at the end, I think it has something to do with where he is located in the world. The public note is something that the sender can [write] so that the receiver knows who sent him the BTC. Enjoy the satoshi btw Wink

Hmm, that's interesting.  When I click on http://www.btcfaucet.blogspot.com it changes to http://www.btcfaucet.blogspot.ca in my browser.
When I add sites to the list I usually just open the site up in my browser so I can get the url and any titles and descriptions correct by copy-pasting
directly from there. I will change it to .com instead of .ca in case that causes further problems or confusion.

Thanks. I saw the .ca and didn't want to bother you with anything else. Just glad that its on the list.

Thanks and congratulations on managing to build it. I'm gonna go test it out:)

Thanks! I manually confirm all submissions at midnight CST, so you won't be receiving them for awhile, sorry. It's a way to counteract exploitation and reduce the fees I have to send.
