usually when a community start to say things like "to da moon" or things that suggest really high value when it really isn't the case it's a sign that said project is going to fail. Hard!
I followed the NAS thread for a while because it was amusing and this starts to remind me of it.

Huh Doesnt sound really good... Some PR-management would do the magic....

right now pr doesn't make any sense. We actually have something really cool for pr up our sleeves but are holding it back because launch is more important right now.

I understand and my point was intended also as a joke

Bitcoiners starting to see what we see and no one seems to disagree other than with the ripple bit...

Everybody can see that. But Bitcoin will be always the king. Why? Because is the first.

Bitcoin can change in some many ways to solve all these problems, using sidechains for example.

Be realistic, thinking about NXT or NEM killing BTC is totally impossible.

Maybe Safecoin has some chances, but is veryyy very far away yet.

firstly i never said anything about over taking bitcoin.. just that they are starting to see(accept) what a lot of us have known for a long time.

secondly.. maidsafe is not a coin in the same way that bitcoin is and is not intended for the same use.. far from it.. so in that respect, nxt or nem actually would have a higher odds of surpassing bitcoin.. it would have been more accurate to say that maidsafe has a better chance of becoming larger than dropbox than nem or nxt.

the odds of nem surpassing bitcoin are not as far fetched as you might think.. at this very early stage of course you are right.. but if all goes well.. 2-3 years from now could be a whole different story. the first generation of any technology has pretty much never been the one that goes properly mainstream. i dont think crypto will be any different. i never said "kill" either.. bitcoin will likely be around for a very very long time.. but thats not to say that something else cant be "as big" or "bigger" than bitcoin itself, it doesnt have to "kill" bitcoin to do this.

Anyway, talking about a coin, taking over the world, which has not even launched yet, is a bit of a stretch.
You´re getting ahead of yourself, i love NEM, but it yet has to proof itself in real world.
First things first, no ?

Keep calm, fasten your seatbelts and keep your hands inside the vehicle at all times, and enjoy the ride . .   Smiley

NEM is at the moment like a rollercoaster stuck at the top of the loop   Grin

how about getting Node listed on other small exchanges like CCEDK or CCEX?

hopefully BTer is not going down the drain, but it would be nice anyway to be listed on more than one exchange!

We plan on nodepay.com open internal exchange

When? Any ETA?

150  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 10, 2014, 11:59:17 AM
i think at this point in time bitcoin is a solution looking for a problem.

almost 24 months ago people though that bitcoin would revolutionize the business of international money transfers, people started working on designing ATMs, and fiat to bitcoin exchanges popped up in many jurisdictions. a solution to an old problem.

today we have some ATMs and a healthy number of exchanges, however both of these have very high regulatory costs.  as it turns out much of that "problem" is mostly the creation of various regulatory regimes, since we no longer generally ship around tons of gold on ships, that let us say are in place to allow incumbents to make money along with providing protocols that allow for reporting to governments primarily for reasons related to tax collection, but also the enforcement of embargoes, sanctions and the never ending hunt for organized crime (terror, drugs, etc).

frankly this is not what bitcoin, as one can plainly see, excels at.

one has to go back to the Satoshi Nakamoto white paper and re-read it occasionally to pull out new nuggets of insight based on what has transpired.

Quote
While the system works well enough for most transactions, it still suffers from the inherent weaknesses of the trust based model.
Completely non-reversible transactions are not really possible, since financial institutions cannot avoid mediating disputes.  The cost of mediation increases transaction costs, limiting the minimum practical transaction size and cutting off the possibility for small casual transactions, and there is a broader cost in the loss of ability to make non-reversible payments for nonreversible
services.

A few things to note here:

1. "the system works well enough for most transactions" means that Satoshi thought that "most transactions" concerning online commerce are handled well by the current system. therefor it is not likely that bitcoin applies to say the purchase of books on amazon.com.  Bitpay, circle and coinbase are sadly barking up the wrong tree.

2. so what is bitcoin perhaps good for?  there answer is right there in the first paragraph: "small casual transactions" and " non-reversible payments for nonreversible services".

What are interactions that may constitute say "small casual transactions"?

1. tipping - this has been relatively successful for reddit and doge it seems
2. online gambling - we can see that the dice sites appear to do decent business
3. ?
4. ??
5. Huh

What are "nonreversible services"?

1. the time stamping of a digital document
2. the use of processing power
3. the use of data storage
4. the escrowing of something of value
5. the execution of a contract between some parties
6. the delivery of data
7.
8.
9.

Now ask yourselves, how many bitcoin services and business do you know which fall into some of these categories?

And then you, I think, shall understand why we are not yet at $10000/btc.

When folks on here can start naming popular services in a majority of these categories, and perhaps others, then we will see not only the foundation for more wide spread adoption but also price.

Most of the investments in the current space by VC are really throwing money into a fire. But I have full confidence that in time (say 2-3 years) other groups that are more nimble and not necessarily driven by rigid business plans will begin to execute on these.  Of course that is the reason why I really like projects like Ethereum, Counterparty and Storj.

You forgot to mention NXT;

Promising projects are IMO;

- Jinn https://nxtforum.org/news-and-announcements/(ann)-jinn/
- DORCS https://lythmmo.com/
- Nxtty https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nxtty.main&hl=nl_NL
- SkyNet http://finhive.com/roadmap.html
- superNET http://www.supernet.org/index.php/en/
- NXTpoker https://nxtforum.org/stark-industries-(nxtdice)/business-plan/

+ Many more projects which will use NXT as their "fuel".

Check http://nxtreporting.com for the actual price and http://www.secureae.com/ if you want to invest directly with BTC.

And ofcourse NXT is not stopping with developments as well;

http://www.nxttechnologytree.com/

There is one important reason why these people have chosen NXT over Bitcoin;

Once you bought the equipment to support the network of NXT you have a fixed cost of electricity of running a node ($20/month for a decent node) and no other fees.

In PoW you need to upgrade your equipment every 6 months to be able compete in the mining race, spend time to maintain the hardware, electricity fees increase as you compete to gain a larger share of hashrate to mine the same amount of coins as before (some of the electricity fees may be offset by more energy-efficient ASICs, but I would guess there is still an increase). In short, it's a nightmare. Only few large datacenters could survive in the end and then they could all be easily coerced to make a PoW crypto centralized and regulated.

With NXT; The power will always belong to the users.

Ps; Someone set up a solar powered Rasperry Pi with the software of NXT;

With NXT; The power will always belong to the few whales.

Are we going to see the launch before or after the Christmas?

ihan kaikkea.Korjataan nekin ehdotuksien mukaan.

Vimeisimmästä päivityksestä voi vaihtaa kielen suomeksi.

Harvesting kääntyy kyllä aika köykäisesti tässä yhteydessä, pitäisin ehkä alkuperäiset.
Toisaalta "sadonkorjaus" voisi kääntyä hyödynkorjaukseen tai saaliinkeruuseen,-korjaukseen tai -keruuseen.
Mites olisi:
- lokaali saalistus/saaliinkeruu/sadonkeräys
- kauko-keräys

last 24 hours no trade with NEMstake

people, wake up and trade !

Should i sell all my NODE coins ~ 590 000 to buy NEM or hold them?

I'll hold until they finally release details of their network.

Maybe i will follow your path, though i doubt it will be long wait.. Could be better to just buy little some BTC and use it for NEMstake.

I just ask the question, because i would love to see a deadline and all the buzzling just before the xmas. Would you agree with me, that the launch at 24.12.2014 could be a huge marketing stunt? "This xmas santa will bring a huge gift for everyone, NEM will come into existence"
I dont want to see a deadline. As long as it is not possible to know when the code is ready for launch, a deadline is not only senseless, it is even counterproductive, because it creates negative pressure on the devs and leads in either early, buggy launch or delayed launch which is annoying for you all.

NEM is no pump & dump coin for speculators making quick money. It is a long-term movement.

This is a topic gone over a million times, and common sense pretty much says this - those who pressure for a release are likely people looking for quick fiat anyway, and won't contribute to the nem ecosystem.

I want NEM to be solid, without it things will crash pretty quickly.

While I agree we shouldn't dilly dally either. There is a window of opportunity, and it doesn't stay open forever.

Dont get me wrong, i want to perfect product just like anyone else. Have you guys recently saw that any major movie, game or product launch without a clear launch date?

How likely is it that you'll find bugs in the movie that could break it when it's played ?
Have you looked at the state that games are shipped in lately ? They could use A LOT more time.

Im not against delays, i just told my opinion how a clear date could be usefull for marketing purposes. I certainly believe eventually we'll get more and more HYPE, when we're steps closer to the launch.

I am sure, launch is before Christmas - but I am not sure about the year.

Such wasted negative energy, why not focus on being productive?

49 000 nxt per NEMstake

soon we will break throuhg 50 000 nxt

to the moon !

instead i see 2btc per NEMSTAKE and i don't like it. I remebered when it was almost 3btc for NEMSTAKE...

Someone just dumped 0,1 stake for 3700NXT before that the price was 49000. I strongly believe in large surge upwards after devs set the deadline.

Any news about the third annoucement? First two were amazing and highly doubt third one will be atleast at the same level.

here we go some serious noob trading again...

Lol...yeahh.....the price is rising...Im gonna buy.....and when the price goes down.....hell Im selling....lol......

Try the other way round kid.... Cheesy

Lol, everytime we are going up somebody is trying to manipulate the price. I don't understand the logic behind that though....
160  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: December 02, 2014, 02:06:44 AM
Is it normal that nxt client blockchain downloads couple of hours?

Depends on your connection, it took me an hour and a bit. Nxt is a year old and the blockchain has around 600,000 transactions in it that not only need to be downloaded, but verified too.

Beware of noobs whooping about how fast they got up on running on their favourite coin. It is usually because the blockchain is 10mb and has 300 transactions in it Grin Try to compare like for like in terms of age of coin and number of transactions in the blockchain in these cases.

Bitcoin has about 25GB blockchain now, how long does that one take to download?

I have a 100MB internet connection though, but it took almost 4 hours to download the NXT blockchain. I have used blockchain.info wallet and that shit is working like a magic compared to the NXT client.
