141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / To fill Gavincoin blocks up to the max of 20MB is relatively cheap on: May 30, 2015, 10:14:32 PM
Calculating:

2.7 (txs/s) * 60 (per minute) * 60 (hour) * 24 (day) * 0.0001 (fee) * 20 (Gavin factor) * 200 (usd price) = 93312 USD to spam up Gavincoin to full 20MB blocks and render it unuseable aswell as filling up peoples' harddrives around the world with 2,88 GB of data per 24 hours (!!!)

conclusion:
Gavincoin can not be defended against banks or governments or even a (bitcoin)millionaire

Anyone who is willing to spend around 100k$ per day can make Bitcoin unusable for almost anyone and bloat the chain in an extreme way and doesn't even need any mining equipement for the attack!

A measily 40 Million spent on such an attack would bloat the chain to 1 Terrabyte. For many entities that's not a lot of money.

#justsayin'

Gavincoin is not defensible against spam.

Bitcoin/Gavincoin pair will be ground zero and epic cinema. Better order tons of popcorn.

Wouldn't chain A (Bitcoin) and chain B (Gavincoin) have the same price?

At first minute after fork yes, but as soon trading Gavincoin vs Bitcoin starts the price will start to differ.
AND there would suddenly be two Bitcoins for every one Bitcoin that exists now. I don't see how this couldn't hurt the cap of both coins.

I personally think they will both crash and burn pretty fast. There will only be casualties and no winner in that war imo.
143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So the destruction of Bitcoin is now official? on: May 30, 2015, 04:14:49 PM

But I personally don't see why bitcoin should go or be mainstream? I see bitcoin as valid and good alternative to send a large (or little) quantity of money without the use of a centralized payment system (like WU ,moneygram or also a bank).

Right, we are lightyears away from mainstream adoption. It's not going to happen fast anyways. People are slow learners.

And actually we have seen quite a few times people go intuitively for new coins like doge and others. Most newcomers don't bother a lot with bitcoin, they demand alts. So this whole scalability thing sorts itself out right there with popular demand anyways.
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So the destruction of Bitcoin is now official? on: May 30, 2015, 04:07:22 PM
What do you mean by 20MB fuckery? Don't you see we need 20MB sooner or later? don't you see the current transaction per second of the current Bitcoin is beyond pathetic compared to VISA etc? dont you see 20MB would solve those problems? Dont you see if we want Bitcoin to become mainstream, we need bigger blocks? Jesus Christ guys, get some perspective.
What will happen is only morons will keep mining the deprecated 1MB fork and it will eventually die.

Nope, i don't agree on that.

Decentralisation, consensus and defensibility is more important than bigger blocks. While 'Bitcoin' may not scale 'cryptocurrency' definately does. Need more txs? Just use merge mined altcoins for smaller txs. I personally don't see a need to raise blocksize at all ever simple because we will never run out of space for cryptocurrency txs. Even with 1MB blocks in btc.
Cryptocrrency could go mainstream today on Bitcoin Core, there wouldn't be any scalability issues imo.
This whole problem is imaginary in my humble opinion.

What happens when people switch back to Core after Gavincoin turned out to be no good?

Peter Wuille (who is a very respectable intelectual in the space) hints at “things we don’t even know of that could break”

147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So the destruction of Bitcoin is now official? on: May 30, 2015, 03:13:43 PM

If the majority of people will not use the new 'client' = reach the consensus, then it will be a problem to everyone because two chain cannot exist forever.

I think there is even a remote possibility for both chains to coexist literally forever because both are supported by parts of the community. I don't see why Bitcoin core would die as long as it has support?
It won't die so easy.

Another thing: if Gainvchain makes technical problems and people go back to Bitcoin core those who have spent their btc on Gavincoin will have lost all their BTC on Core aswell.
148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So the destruction of Bitcoin is now official? on: May 30, 2015, 02:35:01 PM

So where exactly is the threat there?
Please enlighten me, because I too was fooled at first to think that Gavin did threaten.

But what I see is:
"I'll then ask for help lobbying..."
"I'll ask for help getting big miners...."

He is going to ask them for help does not mean he is going to get it.

I mean I know English is not my first language but that doesn't seem like a threat to me.
More like determination to do something whether the rest agree or not.
That still does not mean he is going to get support.

Also, if he was to threaten it would be more like:
"I'll get help lobbying..."
"I'll get big miners...."

the text basically says
"we don't care about minorities, we go ahead anyways and there will be two competing blockchains (the bitcoin core we use now and my altcoin XT). I hope more people will support my altcoin than support the old 1MB bitcoin so those supporting the smaller blocks will have no choice but to use my altcoin"

that what the text basically translates to.

Is this more FUD?

Because there's another thread about Gavin supposedly threatening which seems to be just FUD apparently.

Yes, it casts "fear, uncertainty and doubt", that's why i made this thread because it is real ...

http://sourceforge.net/p/bitcoin/mailman/message/34155307/

The thing is: not investors have a consensus, not the community, not the miners and not the developement team ... i don't see how this can play out in a positive way.
150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / So the destruction of Bitcoin is now official? on: May 30, 2015, 02:17:09 PM
According to this: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/37pv74/gavin_andresen_moves_ahead_with_push_for_bigger/
the Bitcoin community shall be forced at gunpoint out of Bitcoin into Gavincoin.
There will be Gavincoin/Bitcoin pairs at the exchanges and there will be a split not only in the community and developement team but in mining and blockchains aswell.
When the Gavincoin fork takes effect there will be a Bitcoin blockchain (old) and a Gavincoin blockchain (20MB fuckery). Both will at least for some time coexist and people will trade these coins against each other.

What will be the longterm effects on investors sentiment from this?
What will be the effects on sudddenly double the number of Bitcoins existing?
Will the price go in half? What are possible scenarios how this could play out?

How are you personally planning on reacting to this?

I know i buy fiat and altcoins to sit it out. Like to hear your opinion. Will you be blackmailed into using Gavincoin or will you continue to use Bitcoin core?
Or will you exit entirely or buy altcoins instead?

Love to hear some opinions especially from those who aren't supporting this whole Gavincoin fork madness.

IS there a reason that BLAZR2 should love us?

I don't know why microscope design was remove  from the wallet. Where is the KG metrics ?

I like the previous design much more. This wallet work just fine ,but design are zero. Like for some shit coin. Un is far from that.

+1
Someone who understands it needs to do it. Not some random guy.
Where is Blazr2?

I'm sick of Bryce!

I bought Mr. annoying on cryptsy. I think it should be time for Uno to rise a little.
There is some little resistance around 0.012 left after that the path is pretty cleared up at least to 0.015
Nice. You will be rewarded for that soon.

I think so. With this hashrate, rarity and support it's under value and current markets are bullish. 0.01 was a strong floor. Can't go wrong.  Wink
Vertcoin profits invested in Uno ... why not?  Cool

Uno dumped cheap for XRP. 40% of today's volume.

I'd say: thank you, farewell and good luck with those cripple ... errrr .... ripple, sorry.  Cheesy

Little special info on the side for those reading the Uno thread: on polo you can currently get up to 2% daily on lending certain coins in case you have some coins sitting in a wallet which you intend to hold longterm you can aswell offer them to the margin traders and shorters for decent rates.

Are they safe?

E2A - UNO doesnt appear to be one of the certain coins....

2nd edit - is UNO even on that exchange?!

No, it's not and that should definately change because i want 2% to 5% interest on my unos payed for by the dumpers and degenerate gamblers who actually don't have any. Wink
(Lending it out for 2% and buying it back on the market at the same time should be great business)

I think they are as safe as most other exchanges, so: no. But i also think they won't pull a "pretend hack" so polo profits more from good reputation than "fake hacks" i think.

Anyways. It's kind of offtopic actually. Getting uno on there would be nice.

Margin trading for alts with stable marketcap above 1mln is something that's definately coming now. It'll just be a matter of time. I welcome it because it makes the whole game more complex and gives additional opportunities for profit.
It's pretty much a success at polo. I think trex and cryptsy will follow that soon.

0.5% to 5% compound interests daily on my coins is a great invention if you ask me!

So after losing quite a lot of money due to the decrease in bitcoin value. I am now looking to spend a few bitcoins on Alt coins to try get myself back up. Does anyone have any good recomendations please?

See my signature. Uno just implemented merge mining with BTC thus the network is secured for the foreseeable future and you don't need to worry the coin could go to worthless in a second. I think the downside is limited risk while the upside potential is real. But you need to judge yourself.

Other than that: Litecoin halving coming up and trading back and forth some PPC can also make some bucks.
I think XPM, Quark and Megacoin will make a comeback also. But it's just guessing.
157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Miners Update to 0.10 on: May 14, 2015, 09:26:12 PM
I think forking it & applying the fix is the best option, as PatMan suggested, as it has been too long a delay already & is only putting people off the coin.

We won't have another choice if BW doesn't come through with it soon imo.

Could someone post a few updated nodes? I got a 32bit system sitting here with blockchain not updated since prior fork and i don't want to mess that chain up with the wrong nodes and the 8bitcoder wallet doesn't run on that 32bit system. So in case someone would have some updated nodes that would be great for my case. Thanks.

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/uno/#!network

Click on "Node List" for 0.10 and you'll get nodes recently seen on the network.

That's one amazing explorer. Thanks
