141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: October 09, 2014, 11:28:10 PM
I don't understand what's going on.

The new NRS 2.0 wallet has one last bug before being released, it's one complex line of code that is difficult for Barwizi to figure out on his own. So he called in help from other coin developers to ask them their opinion on how to fix it.

This is causing a bigger delay because he is waiting on other people.  Hopefully Barwizi will mention if he has heard back from anyone yet, or if he is still stuck.
142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: October 08, 2014, 06:37:01 PM
Barwizi initially explained what was holding everything up:

There is one stupid line of code holding everything up. I have asked fellow developers for a way around, we'll see what they come up with.

To which Frigga77 afterwards asked:

What caused the delay in all this? Because it is obvious you promised to have something ready last Friday, and now you are saying that you will not be able to work on it for another 3 days?

My guess is the answer is:

"There is one stupid line of code holding everything up. Barwizi has asked fellow developers for a way around"

So I guess we're waiting on "fellow developers" to get back to Barwizi on possible solutions.

He mentioned something about FetchInputs and mempool. Glancing at the code, I'm guessing he means this line?

    bool FetchInputs(CTxDB& txdb, const std::map<uint256, CTxIndex>& mapTestPool,
                     bool fBlock, bool fMiner, MapPrevTx& inputsRet, bool& fInvalid);

Either way, it sounds like has to convince the wallet to accept there is no previous transaction in the blockchain, but instead, to accept the shares.txt and shares2.txt as being an authoritative resource for starting balance transactions.

Anyway, considering you get annoyed with the warnings is why I decided that this will be my last warning in this topic, because I see that most that still around here don't want to hear all this. I do not want you all to loose that money, but I have given up on NRS

Well, I don't want GF investors to lose out either. I hope Barwizi will address it again, not because people are demanding it, but is the right thing to do.

One of the significant features of NRS 2.0 is voting. Once we get that working, I think he can put voting to the community to allow GF holders to be repaid somehow.  I know I'd agree to giving up 10% of my holdings to the GF repayment fund if it existed as long as it was able to be done on an anonymous basis. (I don't like revealing my own coin addresses on forums).

Thread has been adjusted!  Shocked

Excellent!!  Google hasn't picked up on it yet, but it will. Smiley

Even if his claims that the mining operation lost money would be correct, then he still needs to show the numbers. As for this moment, I am sure the mining rigs are running, but we don't know which address it is going to, and how much was made. Beside that, we paid around 42 BTC total for the mining rig, and did not get any ROI. If you can make clear the 12 BTC that would have been mined (and it could be more then 35 by now) went into, be my guest, but we honestly have no clue

Well Barwizi was attempting to answer your questions and all that "is a scammer" spam started which stopped the discussion.

Frigga77 on Sept 23 asked:

Quote
Having said that there was 12 BTC mined with the machines. That makes 23 BTC that has to be accounted for. Where is it Barwizi?

Barwizi replied with a reasonable response:

Quote
if you were honestly looking for answers you would stay on track, we are still dealing with the actual amount put in , then once that is done we will move on to each issue in turn

If someone wanted to look for answers, you'd expect them to go "ok, that makes sense. We'll deal with one issue at a time then. Let's deal with the actual amount put in first"

If you are interviewing someone, and they are still talking, you generally take the opportunity to pull as much information out of them as possible.  If Barwizi is lying, dishonest, or simply incompetent, it will show up.

But instead of all that, you guys constantly "crack a whip" at him, scream scammer at every opportunity. You try to get accounting answers while the new NRS/NRB wallet is choking and sputtering and screwing up. (Right in the middle of an alpha release)

He invited you onto Skype. You declined.  He wanted to talk about "the actual amount put in".  Instead, you wanted to know more about the mining operation.

....and all the while, we have lovely pictures of some kid crying constantly getting re-posted again again, saying Barwizi is a scammer which disrupts everything, accomplishes nothing, and only hurts any type of financial recovery plan that can be made for GF holders.

On the side lines, I bang my head against the wall on how stupid people can be..

If Barwizi is on Trial, let him have his say.  Don't over-talk him when you ask a question.  Every watch a court room trial?  You present something, and the other side has an opportunity to rebut it.

If they rebut it in such a fashion that is incorrect or misleading, you go back on that issue again BEFORE you move on to other issues.

If anyone needed a 3rd party arbitrator, this would be it.

Someone should consider starting a case at https://www.bitrated.com/

....anything will be better than this laszj99 or whatever he's named constantly spamming and disrupting negotiations and discussions between Barwizi and GF holders.

I was eager to see the GF holder issue get resolved.  Not just because my NRS is stuck in the snapshot, but also becauase I genuinely wanted to see a resolution come to fruit. I wanted to see how things went wrong, why they went wrong, and what efforts could be made to correct it.  This is a learning experience for me, and I wanted to observe this whole mess get fixed.  This way, if I ever find myself in a similar situation, I can spot the warning signs, and see what types of resolutions to expect.

The GF holders keep screaming "4 months!!".  Well perhaps you all should change what you've been doing for the last 4 months. Running around screaming scammer on a constant basis hasn't worked very well.  Why not try a different approach.  I have found that if you are less confrontational, but more conversational, you get a LOT more out of Barwizi.  Just look at the previous threads...  You'll see I'm right.

...(oh, and when wallets are in the middle of crashing, that's the worst time to start piping up asking questions. You guys could have waited a couple days until that ordeal was done.)

Very happy to see constructive criticism, responses from the community are paramount to help drive the success of Opal in a positive direction.

Feedback is always welcome.

Thank you

We'd get more community participation from other altcoiners if we had a better topic name.

I continue to grit my teeth every morning when I search this thread and have to see:

[ANN] OPAL /14,9M/BITTREX/CRYPTSY/POD/WALLET TRADING/OPACITY+/OPAQUE ADDRESSES

It makes me have a gag reflex.  Yes, I sound melodramatic, I know.  But keyword stuffing like that just looks like terrible spam for search engine spiders, and not ready for human consumption.
147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] OPAL /14,9M/BITTREX/CRYPTSY/POD/WALLET TRADING/OPACITY+/OPAQUE ADDRESSES on: October 05, 2014, 06:37:36 PM

How about this..
[ANN] OPAL OFFICIAL THREAD - Trading on Exchanges. New! ANON MSG + TRANS (OPACITY+)

Sure. That can work too, although you could probably spell out the world TRANSACTIONS

Has anyone watched the Opal video at www.opal-coin.com ?

All the music, thunder and lightning does very little to convince someone to invest in the coin.  Unless of course, you're under 23 years old and at a rave party.

Instead, an instructional video showing how to use the wallet's features and messaging would be great. I hope someone does that..  (and keep the music low or off)

Oh, and having the video title "Opaque Trailer Final" isn't going to get a lot of youtube hits.  Unless of course you expect people searching cryptocoins on youtube to search for "opaque trailer final" in the search box.  There is also no youtube video description either (which helps you get more views)

The video doesn't even mention opal-coin.com on it or anything.  No screenshots of the wallet.

Very disappointing.  I sound negative, but I am really trying to help point out the weak spots.

If Barwizi does come back, I'll be shocked.  The silence so far has been very telling.

Ok, I'm shocked. Tongue

You make some good points, although.. we are technically called Opal and not Opalcoin. Unfortunately we were limited with domain name choice and so had to buy opal-coin.com, which sucks a bit. It's not so bad because it is a "coin" - it's just the coin is not named OpalCoin.

How about remove the 14,9M and use those letters for "(Coin)"

I don't know what wallet trading means (I know, it's linked to Bittrex's API) but it isn't really self explanatory. It makes it sound like you can move coins from one wallet to another person's wallet.

Having about 4-5 main keywords in the subject is plenty. Anything more than that, gets confusing to read, to comprehend, and is counter productive after awhile, especially to new people.

When a new person looks at a message subject, they take about 2 seconds or less to decide if it is interesting enough to click on. It should be worded in simple but important terms. Don't keyword stuff.

Looks like the giveaway coins dumped in public got sold. Price is down to 582 sats right now.

Also, whoever is naming the main ANN thread is doing a terrible job. If you type in "opal coin" into the bitcointalk thread, you get a bunch of 1 or 2 post junk threads with similar names for opal

If you go on google and type "ann opalcoin" you get nothing.

This is like ANTI-seo practices..

Instead of this:

[ANN] OPAL /14,9M/BITTREX/CRYPTSY/POD/WALLET TRADING/OPACITY+/OPAQUE ADDRESSES

Try something more meaningful:

It is my guess that Barwizi is going to retire his forum username, and start developing under a different name.

I have no idea why you guys kept pushing as hard as you did while he was still developing things. The entire time he said he was going to bring value to both GF holders as well as Noirbits and Noirshares holders.

Instead, you guys just wanted to pound him into the dirt and piss on him, bring collateral damage to everyone nearby.

Great job.  I suppose now you can walk around with a smirk on your face that I'm out my NRS too now.

All you did was pour more gas on a smoldering fire and made it worse.

Handling things a little more tactful might have still brought you ways to recover your losses while Barwizi continued to develop and release new things.  He was getting close to releasing the NRS / NRB snapshot chain. Now that's dead it seems.

If Barwizi does come back, I'll be shocked.  The silence so far has been very telling.
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: October 01, 2014, 02:59:56 AM
You want an in-wallet block finder? I can work that in, but that's probably on Thursday, with wallets available friday (unless i get a day off

NO.

A VPS running a NRS block explorer, much like:

http://nrs.argakiig.us/

That is on the new chain.  So when I go "NoirSharesd getinfo" and it says I'm on block 352, I can look at that block explorer, and go "oh, wait a minute, the block explorer is at block 4205, I'm way off"

Similarly, if I hit a lotto block of 2222 reward, I want to check to see that the block explorer website shows it's mine also..
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: September 30, 2014, 04:33:16 PM

When you release it, I recommend commenting out smsg, voting, etc.

Right now we just need a stable merged chain that is mineable and can do basic transactions.

Oh, and a block explorer that lets us check blocks and transactions.

That's all.

This way if new features cause a problem, you can checkpoint back if necessary and have people revert to the previous client (as much as I hate to think of that happening).

Most of all, we'll have a block explorer to verify if our nodes are current, etc.   Launching a new chain with no block explorer is pretty weird and confusing.
154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: September 28, 2014, 05:08:23 PM
I think I have some problem.
My address is 9hWttyc1RSwY8FHG6BfTYAwTgphDqxtJyv and I had 7273.916572 NRS.

In the previous NRS, I type dumpprivkey 9hWttyc1RSwY8FHG6BfTYAwTgphDqxtJyv and I got
Private key for address 9hWttyc1RSwY8FHG6BfTYAwTgphDqxtJyv is not known (code -4)

Can you help me?

Do you have a passphrase on your wallet that was used to encrypt it?  If so, this is the kind of error message that will be displayed if you do not unlock it first.

(it always acts like it does not have the private key when the wallet is locked)

To unlock the wallet use:

walletpassphrase <password> 600

Then you can dump your private key

(The 600 means 600 seconds or 10 minutes)

155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: September 24, 2014, 03:26:46 PM

In the process of deleting files, starting again, adding files etc I also saw this message several times trying to start and crashing:
************************
EXCEPTION: St13runtime_error
CDB() : can't open database file smsgPubKeys.dat, error -30973
NoirShares in ProcessMessages()

I tend to get the message if I delete all in .NoirShares except for NoirShares.conf and wallet.dat. Deleting wallet.dat seems to solve that, and after that I can replace the wallet with my old wallet again.
Seems we are still stuck at block 238?

I found that starting NoirSharesd -nosmsg  helped to keep it from crashing.

So we ran for all those blocks fine, until some person out there decided to play with the secure messaging functions of the wallet, which every node began crashing.

There are evil people out there that will deliberately exploit holes in code for to gain mining advantages or to steal private keys, etc.

Taking a wallet, stuffing it full of features, and hoping it works, is a terrible design idea.

Even if it did work for a week or two, and got on exchanges, all it would take is some hacker sending out malicious smsgs messages to crash the wallet at will. It would have affected the stock price and more.

I think Barwizi should not be developing alone.  We need to find him a code auditor of some sort to find these bugs before the wrong person does.  Just because a wallet appears to kind of run, does not mean it isn't exploitable.

So the real issue here is to find a proper dev team.

156  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: September 24, 2014, 03:49:36 AM
so i have a conf file "NoirShare"
what am i missing , it not sync , i delete the old wallet file in %appdata% ( copy the wallet to USB locations NRS 2.0 )

The file needs to be called NoirShares.conf and saved in plain text (like Notepad)

It needs to be present in the folder before you open NoirShares as it only reads the file when it first opens. It has to be in the same folder where you see the file named "debug.log"
157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: September 24, 2014, 01:50:25 AM
weird thing though is that the log file isn't showing the normal signs of mining

Yeah, for some reason those are commented out in the newer version.

If you are building source, you can remove the // from these two lines in main.cpp

                printf("testHash %s\n", testHash.ToString().c_str());
                printf("Hash Target %s\n", hashTarget.ToString().c_str());

That will show in your debug.log every time you find a test hash, and have it compare against the hash target.  If you see those, then yes, you are mining (and you can watch it happen if you  watch the debug.log file scroll)

158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: September 24, 2014, 12:02:15 AM

I have 1 active connection and wallet is up to date

Blocks are at 194 right now.  You should have more connections than just 1 active connection.

What does your NoirShares.conf look like with addnode ?

(Difficulty was high at 0.00000039 now it is down to 0.00000019)

But you should never mine with only 1 active connection.  How do you know that 1 connection isn't taking your block hash and resending it to other nodes as their own?

You should always try to have more than 5 active connections to be safe.
159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: September 23, 2014, 08:36:58 PM
Isn't it prudent to check our balances now though to make sure they were allocated correctly? If you dump the private key of the new addresses it shouldn't matter should it? You could always recover using the new wallet addresses I think.

Well.................

Since there is a problem with locked wallets and unlocking them for minting purposes (confirmed in earlier posts in this thread)..

...and since there is a confirmed bug with transferring coins, and change addresses...

...and since this new wallet just came out today...

You really want to have your private keys in this new wallet "connected to the internet" today?

I wouldn't do it.  Not today anyway.

If you want to look at balances you can try to decipher shares2.txt and shares.txt, the addresses are in there, they are just missing the decimal point I think.
160  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: September 23, 2014, 08:27:47 PM
yes, the thing is i cant run the new wallet to claim mine!

It has only been less than one day with this new wallet code. Plus there is a confirmed bug by Barwizi that transfers aren't getting confirmed due to a bug in the change address.

You're living quite dangerously trying to claim your NRS from the snapshot at this point.  I wouldn't do that yet.  What's the rush anyway? NRS 2.0 isn't on any exchanges.

Just give it a week or two before playing with that sort of thing.
