81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: December 03, 2014, 09:29:23 PM
This is fun. There are 2 different chains. One of them is around block 1243 the other chain is at block 7213

Which one is right?

Wish we had an official block explorer to tell us.

Don't worry, there will be a soft update soon, will solve all the problems  Roll Eyes

I'm sure the soft update will arrive after difficulty increases, the chain is long enough, and the early miners have the equivalent of a premine for being on the right chain while others are mining a wrong chain.

Makes sense. Smiley  Gotta love crypto. Ha ha..
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: [OPAL] | SuperNET | MARKETPLACE | ANDROID | FILE SHARING | HTML5 WALLET on: December 03, 2014, 09:23:06 PM
Opal, SuperNET and You
Because I've gotten quite a few questions on the Opal side of the superNET, I'd like to explain it a bit better.

[..]

What this means for Opal:

- Increased funding, which means increased development and services (Opal PayPal gateway within a month)
- Decentalized Exchange (We're working with Vericoin on a new multi gateway cluster)
- Expanded dev team (we're already talking too VRC about some cool projects)
- We're working with one of the most recognized devs in the crypto scene (Jl777) on a decentralized Internet project.
- Teleport, a BitcoinDark privacy feature, which is the most secure anonymous system in the crypto environment will be integrated into Opal and Opal projects.

So an example might be:

A Vericoin user wants to store some files on Opal Drive.  He exchanges some of his Vericoin via the SuperNET gateway to buy some Opal Drive resources by obtaining some Opal for the purchase.

This in turn creates demand for Opal, and Opal's Opal Drive feature is used.

Conversely, an Opal user wants to use VeriSMS to send some coins via SMS to a cellphone.  They exchange some value of Opal into Vericoin, and then use the VeriSMS feature to make that possible.

This in turn creates demand for Vericoin and Vericoin's VeriSMS feature is used.

Finally, the concept of SuperNET is that it ties all of these coins and features together in one unified space, so it does not matter which side of the coin market you buy into, you can always exchange your coin's value for features that exist in a partner coin.  The only difference is, that certain coins, with better features might have higher or lower value, depending on what they bring to the SuperNET.

The advantage from traditional trading, is you won't need multiple separate wallets for these transactions to occur.  You won't need transfer money to centralized exchanges to in order to buy another coin while you're trying to use a feature. Instead, everything will happen from a SuperNET client.

The benefits for engaging in SuperNET for these coins are:

- devs share programming resources
- it avoids duplication. Best implementation of a feature is adopted
- devs share in SuperNET profits which encourages them to participate

Is what I've said correct?
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: [OPAL] | SuperNET | MARKETPLACE | ANDROID | FILE SHARING | HTML5 WALLET on: December 03, 2014, 05:25:44 PM
you always have a lot to say, would have expected someone like you to be able to find out how things work by yourself Wink
Most people know what supernet and its advantages are, nobody besides a select few bought in hearing supernet, and not understanding what it is.

That's the problem, I did try to find things out by myself. But the more I was learning, the more I was having to discover.  SuperNET is actually quite complicated, a lot of moving parts.

When I saw the high interest in Opal (price jump), and then the dramatic drop afterwards, I know that's normal, but I was wondering if we were losing some people who did not understand what Opal really is all about.

We kept reading posts from people asking "what makes opal special". Yes, I know, people are lazy, but I'm not one of them.

The problem I was really seeing is that SuperNET wasn't explained to our community "from an Opal perspective", and it really should be..

Even I was confused an immediately bought some BTCD figuring that was the key here, only to see lack of interest, and I got back out and re-bought Opal again.

The point is, that while Opal's interest is garnering a lot of attention, we really need to use this forum to address questions.  What's the point of a forum if we just tell everyone to "go find out for yourself".  Talking openly and sharing information is good and key to the survival long term.

Other than boobs, is there anything to talk about?

How about a block explorer? Is there one yet?
85  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: [OPAL] | SuperNET | MARKETPLACE | ANDROID | FILE SHARING | HTML5 WALLET on: December 03, 2014, 07:15:23 AM
It appears investors are confused, probably why Opal dropped from >6k sats down to 3.7K now

The initial jump was due to the Opal Drive, and storj integration, which was easy enough to understand.

Then all of a sudden the SuperNET announcement came out, and people were buying without realizing what it is they were chasing.

Now that the excitement has calmed down, there are a lot of confused people (myself included).   Doing preliminary research, it appears if you buy UNITY it's better than buying OPAL, is that true?

What are the benefits of buying opal today? Will it preserve it's value? Will we be able to exchange it for UNITY or NXT?

Is there going to be a increase of people wanting Opal in the future once this mgmBTC thing starts working for asset transfers?

It's so confusing, and to be honest, the graphic doesn't help much.

What we need is a few sample case scenarios.

Ie: If you own Opal today, here's something that could expect in the future.   Your Opal could be a 15:1 ratio of Opal to UNITY, so buying UNITY now, doesn't make much sense, since Opal is POS and worth more. (bad example)

That sort of thing.  I don't know.  Help?

Does anyone other than me think that Opal might DOUBLE in price in the next 30 to 60 days?

Watching these developments, I think it is quite possible.
88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SFR] SaffronCoin | Decentralized Exchange to release soon! on: November 28, 2014, 08:30:47 PM
The SFRDirect protocol and decentralized exchange are all developed. We are working on some extra features to increase the value of cSFR and its usage.

Any idea when we can try an alpha public testing of the decentralized exchange?

Truther, that meme actually helps detract from the sophistication of Opal and the "big money" serious investors are currently putting into this coin right now.

By it's very nature it's FUD like...

If huge meme's had any place in the business world, they'd be everywhere in the wallstreet journal, and they aren't.

Let's try and keep a tone of seriousness here.  Opal is going where it is, because it deserves it. Let's not fill this forum with funny memes that just lower the maturity level of the discussion.

Everyone else, just give it a bit of time. There'll be a soft update soon.

I'm hoping it will be a version of the wallet source that compiles, connects, and syncs to the most recent block on Linux.

Garmin, sent you a PM. Wondering why you didn't reply?
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HamRadioCoin - SHA256 on: November 24, 2014, 11:01:46 PM

From what I do know about HAM, is that the people are no stranger to tinkering with technology and gadgets.  Would seem appropriate to tally up a list of HAM radio groups around North America and Europe. See how many there are..

Allow a small amount of free hamradiocoin per group.  Each local group can assign 1 local delegate to do the wallet install and show other interested users at their local geographic how to use it.

Most of these groups have email addresses and mailing addresses, should be easy to reach them.

Not only will this promote hamradiocoin but bitcoin too. I bet many of them haven't even heard of a bitcoin either. Cheesy
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HamRadioCoin - SHA256 on: November 24, 2014, 06:54:27 AM

Some people like myself who have no experience with HAM radio would love to see ham related discussions.  Can anyone buy a HAM receiver (not transmitter) to listen to ham operators talk?

What is the cheapest device for that?  From what I understand, traditional hand held scanners don't go down to those lower frequencies, right?  (You can tell I don't know much about this stuff)
94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: November 23, 2014, 10:12:55 PM

Can anyone (other than Barwizi or Blackxx1977) confirm that the source compiles, runs, and sync's to a block higher than 700 on Linux?
95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NoirShares UPDATE REQUIRED Advanced Features✔, Unique PoW✔ on: November 23, 2014, 07:20:12 PM

So this is what I've witnessed:

a) Barwizi releases a source wallet on github that gets to block 39 and gets stuck, because of a checkpoint that was sent out on the network prematurely for checkpoint on block 128 which stalls the client.

b) Blackxx1977 re-releases a Windows-only binary, and a pre-downloadable blockchain

c) Barwizi accepts Blackxx1977's Windows-only binary and pre-downloadable blockchain as being official

d) Barwizi re-releases new blocks.zip github.com/NoirX/NoirShares/commit/060ffb0d2ea248372c50a1cdaed2e404c2c2fb38

Once again, we have no block explorer to confirm the official chain the entire time.

The current miners on this very bizarre way of releasing this wallet and so happy that they're mining with low difficulty that there is no real concern to release this wallet like very other crypto wallet and just fix the bugs and re-launch the coin.

If you want a premine, then put in a premine.  Don't release this odd ball wallet this way, shutting out people who want to compile source and have blocks verified the traditional way (without having to pre-download and install the first part of the chain). There aren't any mining pools up, nothing.

To be honest, this is worse than a premine.   I do not consider this chain official even if Barwizi and Blackxx1977 say it is..

I think this is a failed launch, and it's illegitimate.   The 5 or 10 people that are mining this way based this way, I hope you enjoy your coins.  Maybe you can trade them with each other on Poloniex. Smiley

96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HamRadioCoin - SHA256 on: November 22, 2014, 06:50:19 PM

That's like a silent film from the 1920's, and it's not operators actually talking over the radio waves. Sad
97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HamRadioCoin - SHA256 on: November 22, 2014, 06:01:29 PM

I'd like to see a youtube video of two ham radio operators talking about hamradiocoin through the airwaves. Zooming in on the radio, looking at the blinking lights.  Or even 3 or 4 operators at the same time talking about hamradiocoin

That would be cool and show support for the coin.
98  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Storage crypto currency on: November 18, 2014, 01:56:44 AM
Those running DriveShare can use an application like http://www.netlimiter.com/ to have fine control over their bandwidth for now.
One of our higher priority items is getting the kind of rate limiting stuff people want. By time it gets to average users you should have that control.

Thanks, that makes sense.   Yes, it will be important to addess the issue in a FAQ or similar when DriveShare gets released so kids don't abuse their internet connections running up huge bills. Smiley

Also if they are in a situation where they are sharing internet with the rest of the house/apartment/school, etc, they will need something like that for sure.

I also found on here too that has those pretty graphics and toggles that would make most people happy:

https://netbalancer.com/features

If DriveShare 2.0 has the same sort of functionality and reporting for controling and reporting bandwidth usage, I think it would be a huge success.

There I changed to a link so Safe for Work Cheesy .. Click if you want, if your safe at home.

Very creative solution. I like it. Smiley
100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Storage crypto currency on: November 16, 2014, 10:21:09 PM
Most people don't realize that there are GB/month limits.   A storj node serving files could easily max out someone's account, couldn't it?

Also, concurrent users, is there a way to limit them so the entire pipe isn't consumed by file transfers?

Micropayments. I would recommend reading our whitepapers.

I have browsed through the whitepapers, and didn't see bandwidth throttling, concurrent sessions, etc specifically addressed.

The micropayments section you quoted (found in the storj whitepaper) references two magazine articles, neither of which discuss bandwidth throttling or concurrent sessions.

While I do understand that the micropayment protocol allows for contracts, the bitcoinmagazine article said "code to enable micropayments is being actively developed by core bitcoin developers" and then referenced https://github.com/jgarzik/mcp (which hasn't been changed in 8 months).

Is there something in the whitepapers you can reference that talks about nodes limiting their bandwidth resources as user configurable option?

I did see this screenshot:

Would be nice to see what is behind that settings button.
