141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRC] | VeriCoin | POS - NSDI | VeriBit | VeriSend | VeriSMS on: July 13, 2014, 07:01:17 PM
Given that about 30% of total VRC have been stolen and that 51% of staking coins are sufficient to gain control of the blockchain, I would guess that it is a pretty high possibility that use of the stolen coins to fork the chain would be successful. So, I understand why the devs would roll back the chain, as the loss of control would likely be permanent otherwise.

Now, about the viability of BC clone PoS coins, you've just seen a major weakness in an attack that didn't cost a lot with regard to fiat currency spent to accomplish it. Investors should think long and hard about what happened here, this could be a death blow to this type of PoS...

Please read before you make false assumptions.

It was a MINTPAL issue, not a POS.

The hackers never minted a penny from what I seen, you need to mint to get any % attack.

Also, you think, YOU THINK, just maybe they moved them all to 1 wallet to scare you people who lack the thought process to decide something for yourself?

Is a reason they didn't withdraw, the fact that they moved them all to 1 wallet shows they wanted to effect peoples heads more than anything. You have all these people with conspirary theories now coming out of no where. That Mintpal hack may be a team of people, would it suprise you for them to attack the coin now since they couldn't steal any money? Maybe they are mad. You see people here who never posted all of a sudden really excited about FUD'in VRC.

I think you might have misinterpreted what I said. The fact that 30% coins moved from a benevolent to a possibly malevolent actor(s) and that PoS is in effect is opening a lot of unwelcomed scenarios in case the devs do not rollback. So I understand why they have decided to do so. However, if PoW or PoW/PoS were in effect instead of pure PoS, the number of unwelcome scenarios would have been much less.

144  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: July 01, 2014, 01:42:46 PM
Seems there has been some ferocious selling of XMR today - there was a lot of trolling at polo about VTR this morning - with some new anon feature being released which caused a migration from xmr to vtr. Does VTR have anything to offer? or is it just another pump and dump. Does it just use the coinjoin feature?
It's just a mixer. Mixer are not anonymous.
I don't know anything about any VTR, but if you can't prove who sent what to whom after a mixer has been used, isn't that anonymity for all practical purposes? Especially if any "academically more exciting" solution has more practical obstacles to overcome before mass adoption is possible?

A mixer do not make a transaction anonymous. It just mix transactions (as you can guess by the name) between peers but you can always retrace.

Thanks for your reply. yes sorry i was meaning vertcoin - the reddit post which explained how their "stealth" worked was so confusing i could not get my head round it. But yes it seems if you know the amount of VRT sent then you can trace it - and it is closed source as well. i just could not believe the huge spike in buys just after the stealth feature was released, thought it must be something good...but it just seems like its the latest alt to be focussed on by the pump and dumpers.

Stealth addresses (Sx) are a mechanism that provides transactions with better privacy protection than regular transactions. A receiving party generates a key that it shares with the sending party which becomes the basis for the transaction. The transaction is obfuscated on the blockchain. As far as I understand it, there is no mixing of any kind. It seems they have implemented it in a way that is relatively simple to use; if you think that the reddit explanation is complicated, try http://coin.cubeconnex.com/poollist and click on Stealth Address for alternative one.

With regard to the Sx code being closed source, I think that is due to VTC team's frustration that some of their code was being aped by other coins without giving proper credit. From their thread it seems they want to publicize the fact that they are the first to implement Sx and once that is done they would open the code. I would give them the benefit of the doubt here, that team has been one of the few that has been on the up and up with regard to promoting open source development.

Edit: Some of the screenshots reference Monocle, which the VTC team released to support merged mining with other N-scrypt coins. The Sx feature was first released on the Monocle mainnet, and today on Vertcoin's. Don't let the references to Monocle in the screenshots confuse you, the mechanics of a end user utilizing Sx are identical.

Just a thought... Are you running multiple keyboard (language) layouts in Windows? Is it possible that you might have entered the password using one keyboard layout, and are now using another one i.e. having a separate English and your particular language keyboard layouts?

its a good thought as i hadnt thought of it.... im not too sure if i am running multile keybord languages, how could i check this??

it is very possible to be honest... how would i be able to sort this if this is the case??

thanks dude much appreciated

[I truncated the previous conversation so it does not take too much space]

The fact that you are asking me this probably means that you are running only one, but here is how you can check.

In Windows, go to Control Panel, and from there to Region and Language (this is true on Win7). From the dialog box that will appear click on the Keyboards and Language tab, and once there click on the Change Keyboards button. A new dialog box will appear. If on the list in the Installed Services frame you see a single keyboard format like US or whatever your input language is, then you do not need to worry multiple keyboard layouts, you only have one. If you have more than one in that list, then you can cycle through them with Left Alt + Shift once you cancel out of the all dialog boxes you just opened.

hello i have tried this method and it says my password is still invalid... i dont understand why as its the same password, is there another method... or do you think i will have more luck with the new gui wallet?

thanks for you help

it kinda seems like you just forgot your password. did you try 'x' for password? or nothing? capslock?

dude theres no way i could have forgotten, i had it written on two docs, ive gone through all the previous versions of the txt doc i put it on, and the password is correct, so i dont know why i cant get into my wallet

i took extra precautions with xmr for the fact that i didnt want to lose money and its a great coin... i dont understand why it worked before and not now if its literally exactly same password

IDK man i find it really hard to believe. the cryptonote protocol doesn't just forget your passwords. i don't mean to be a dick but it is 99% likely that you are at fault here. If you wrote the password down correctly, and it is coming back as incorrect, you probably made a typo when you typed it into the daemon. it doesn't ask you to repeat the password when you generate a wallet, and it reads as ******** so there is no way to see if you made a type or not. my advice would be to try the password again in the daemon with all the likely typos, example if f is the first letter of your password, try it with all the keys surrounding f instead (c,d,r,t,g,v) and do that for all the other letters and i bet you will get it after a few tries.

again, not to be a dick, but I would bet 100 xmr you are the one at fault here not the daemon lol.

youre not being a dick at all lol thanks for helping in what ever way... i will try it, however i restore 5 previous versions all say i have same password since it was created... that same password worked.. is there any way i can hack my own wallet??

if it worked before it should work now. I have no other explination than that, and no, noone can hack a wallet, humans dont currently have the technology to do so.

are you 100% sure you have the correct wallet data in your file folder? i have a few different wallets that i use across 3 machines and sometimes i type the password for wallet 1 into wallet 2 and freak out before quickly realizing i am the one at fault lol. try the typo thing. the daemon did not make a mistake or forget your password so it must be some other error. did you do the 24 seed word thing by any chance?

it worked before, so it better work now lool got a decent amount... and it must have been me or something... hmmm not even brute force attaack lol i need these xmr back lol

yes the thing is i only have one xmr wallet... one quazarcoin... and i always copy things two or three times to ensure stuff like this doesnt happen... will try all possible combos

and the 24 word seed was not an available feature with the first cryptonote wallet i created the password in... i tried to run wallet from the old gui i had and it worked... only thing was it didnt initillize as it was old and had been updated many times to the new one

thanks for your imput tho any help is appredciated

147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Download New Wallets] Clean Water Coin | $2,000 Donated to Charity: Water on: June 25, 2014, 04:10:25 PM
Any reason not to just re-import priv keys instead of going back to old wallet.dat?

Yes. Most users don't know what commands to run in order to get "all" the wallet addresses.
Your wallet has more addresses than shown in the "receive" tab.
Those are new addresses created for "change", which means the remaining of the coins from a transaction you created.

So, if you don't dump and import private keys of all the addresses, you may end up with missing coins.

I had previously made a new wallet and send coins out of my old wallet because it was hard to tell what was missing in every resync.  So it's just a short list on my new wallet, easy to import Smiley  Which worked great.  But then I tried to send a few over to bittrex:

Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me when I decided to give up on maintaining a local wallet + stake and tried to move everything to Bittrex. I kind of followed what mindfox recommended while back:

1. Run checkwallet in the debug window. Given that the message is about coin mismatch, you are likely to get back a message that some amount of coins is out of sync.
2. Run repairwallet in the same window.
3. Retry transaction. It is possible that the amount you originally tried to transfer might not be available, but it should become available after waiting a little bit. If the original amount was less than 1/2 of the value of your wallet, it is likely that on the next try you will succeed (i.e. will use coins from other inputs in your wallet). If you don't have enough funds, just wait for the coins from the original transaction to be "returned" to your wallet.
4. In case 3 fails again, repeat starting from 1. You will eventually succeed.

By free estimate, I had to do this 8-10 times until I moved the whole content of my wallet. You also might need to close and reopen the wallet as well for the missing amount to appear.

As always, back up your wallet before attempting anything.

Good luck!

who can tell me, why I try'ed to send 1 xmr, but it takes 1.3 xmr from my wallet?
I tried to send xmr to bittrex...
enter the following:
transfer 0 bittrex_adress 1 bittrex_id
wallet give me transaction number, 77f697c31252d75cd563b8c524a577e1597b6dbc4d5834d40978a629c2ba38c5 , if I look in blockchain, it says 1.3 xmr. and the wallet give me a list of transcations used, it is 1.3 xmr.
But I receive only 1 xmr. Where is 0.3 xmr?

The 0.3 XMR should be sent back in your wallet. If you haven't yet done so, when you refresh it, you should observe a number of spent inputs for the 1.3 XMR + one 0.3 XMR incoming input being reported in the block number you observed in the block explorer. The 0.3 XMR is just your change from the transaction. You can also look at the simplewallet log to see the refresh output, if you have already refreshed and missed seeing this.

MoneroPool.org is shutting down due to DDoS attacks. We apologize for any inconveniences.

Permanent shutdown?
Yes. It's not worth it to keep running the mining server any more  Undecided

I am sorry to hear that. I enjoyed my experience mining at your pool, the least amount of hassle and regular payouts. Hopefully, it may be worth your while in the future.
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BBR] Boolberry [ANONYMOUS | CRYPTONOTE | ADDR ALIASES | NO IPO/PREMINE] on: June 14, 2014, 04:17:55 AM

Hope to mine with you soon!

So, I am one of the 12 miners on your pool, been mining for the past three days and I am likely the one with lowest hashrate. Is it possible that a link to the improved Win64 simpleminer executable is provided either on your pool or here? I have no way to build the binary...

i've uploaded last binaries to website.
http://boolberry.com/downloads.html

Thank you for that, much appreciated!

Guys, to me there is a big difference than what shows me the program and what my pool account as hash.
To you is there such a difference. It is more than 30% yield by making graphics unreasonable.

yes,i have the same problem.I mine at monero.com and gpu miner shows 1606kh/s and i should be getting  8.25xmr-% dev fee+%2 miner fee:7.6xmr  with current difficulty but i only got 6.8 xmr today.Either miner values are not correct or pool takes more than %2.

Did you account for orphans? Look at your pool and see what the percentage of orphans is. Subtract that percentage, and you probably will end up close to what you got paid.

would one of you pros mine helping me with the cli wallet?

A friend of mine transferred 506 xmr to my wallet and I am trying to get them to his poloniex account, but I am having this problem:

http://imgur.com/nFKegY1

it would appear I am not typing the code in the correct format. Also, not sure what it means by "non negative integer" because I AM using a non negative integer for mixin count.

I am trying to first send 6 to his poloniex account, then another 500, once the first 6 confirm. Thanks for the help!
Don't use < and >

facepalm

thanks gentlemen!

I hope I am interpreting your screenshot correctly, but if you are moving XMR to Poloniex, you will also need to add the Payment ID, which seems to be missing from your commands. Your friend or you (if you have access to his account) should generate the Payment ID at the Poloniex's Balances page. Once you generate this, you send XMR with the following:

transfer 0 <Deposit Address> <amount> <Payment ID>

I put mixin count of 0, but you can replace it with whatever you prefer. Of course, remove the < and > when typing the actual transfer command Smiley

+1 for a linux miner Wink

+1

Claymore just needs to open source the miner. Others will help him to port it to Linux Wink
I will pay him 100 XMR to open source it - though he's already made a whopping 2 XMR from my pool. Tongue

P.S. the loss of hashrate over time is fixed when I restarted the pool server, so it must be a connection issue with HTTP. Stratum is coming soon..

I am not sure whether this has to do with your restart of the pool server, but blocks that are shown as matured are not being classified as valid or orphans and it seems they are not getting paid either. Can you please check?

This just got resolved. Thank you for fixing it.

Where do you set "GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT"?

Is this in the miner? the GPU settings? Windows settings?

Make a batch file with the following content and run it from the folder where you unzipped the miner:

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
NsGpuCNMiner.exe -o mine.moneropool.org:1111 -u 47..... -p x
