I really have no need for Safello, Coinbase is a great website I trust with about 60% of my BTC.
Trust? Why? You have nothing to gain and only stand to lose. Coinbase has nothing to gain by holding your coins either...except people might not buy through them if they can't get free bitcoin storage...

Shitty gambling adverts from people's signatures. You do nothing to promote a positive all inclusive image of Bitcoin by pandering and trying to profit from others vices/addictions.
Just because someone is a part of a signature campaign doesn't mean that they are only posting to promote said signature! Personally, I am more turned off by people who put their Bitcoin and Litecoin addresses in their signature hoping for a handout It was fairly novel back in the day to be able to tip people who posted stuff that was helpful. There hadn't been a way to do that before. We take it for granted now, but, being set up to receive tips was kind of a way of identifying ones self as someone who was trying to be helpful...

I can vouch that this is a legit research project. I participated as a research subject in their IRB approved research survey/interview this afternoon.

firstly evidence of autumns suicide is not foundation based. but instead MTGOX based. it has been presumed that her business invested big into mtgox, and then mtgox tanked and she was the one left with the blame. (wouldnt you contemplate suicide if you lost millions of your clients money overnight that was not insured, especially if the clients never knew it was sent to a exchange that was meant for swapping game cards)
now drawing a line in that plot
even though i dislike the latest drama of the bitcoin foundation rigging the votes to allow a scumbag into their ranks. atleast i can put personal issues aside and grasp reality.
Rigging votes? Simply not true. I ran the election...I am the primary source to refute this. It's FUD. How do you explain the 100k that TBF said KNC paid to be able to vote for Brock. When there is no proof they paid the 100k on the blockchain? Lol. Did you realize every industry member pays ฿ and none of those private transactions are publicy tagged on the block chain? If I were a merchant and you bought something from me, and I told the world "cryptopaths paid me x bitcoins from a combination of these addresses: {y}," would you be agreeable to that? Would every customer past, present & future? If you think about it for a nanosecond, you'll realize the stupidity. But, if you don't, feel free to reuse the argument on a host of other similar situations...it will trick a few folks for some time I should think.

brian, when an election happens the results should be the results. the one with highest votes wins.. end of. but then strangely there was a decision to re-vote. or have you forgotten / purposefully ignored the revote? I'm calling you again on FUD. The bylaws require a director to be elected by a majority of quorum. That wasn't met and hence a second round of voting occurred. It's pretty simple. If you want to discuss further in a more appropriate context, feel free to email me (let's not hijack a crazy thread).

Cryptocrypt.org, but you need an invite.
It's stacked with some influential people.

The Bitcoin Foundation is a very shady group that has been heavily involved in many illegal activities. From allegely hiring hitmen to the "loss" of around 800k bitcoins. Many murders and "suicides" revolve around TBF. Here is the "suicide" of Autumn Radtke : http://nypost.com/2014/03/05/bitcoin-firm-ceo-found-dead-in-suspected-suicide/she was involved with the Bitcoin Foundation and the "suicide" is looking very suspicious. With The Bitcoin Foundation being one of the biggest most influential entities in Bitcoin if they somehow were able to find out Satoshis indentity which is very much possibile. Their is no question they would act immoraly and either kill him to seize his power or detain him. From theft in the hundreds of millions to murders the Bitcoin Foundation is a corrupt organization that will do whatever it can to gain more power, I will look into this case more and bring out the truth. Cryptopaths, Chief Of Police of the CPD ~Crypto Knight~ Are you insane? The Bitcoin Foundation is tiny...and has like $5M max in assets.

Well it's lunchtime where I am now and I have just noticed this - so I guess I have become "a legend in my own lunchtime". Lol...I did it on call in the hospital, apparently. Cool idea...it'll help know everyone know who has been around for a while. Too bad I don't get a half green and half yellow final coin :-) You still won't know everyone that's been around awhile. Take Holliday for example, he has been here since early 2011 and posts continuously. He just deletes a bunch of his posts every once in a while and loses rank. I've been alcoholocaust, shadow, boscoj, jenny hill, CornedBeefHash and now QuestionAuthority but I've been here since the beginning of 2011. Exactly. It will help everyone know who has been here for a while. It will not help anyone know everyone who has been here for a while.

I got my own mother to purchase 15 BTC over the past year. She will be sitting pretty in 5 years (and don't worry, I secured the bitcoin for her) Have you gotten someone you know or love to buy bitcoin because you want them to be doing well in the future? Post your success stories here. Basically same story here. I'm cautious by nature but she ended up with $20k and ฿20 after a series of bitcoin purchases totaling about $4000.

Micropayment has been a holy grail of transaction research for over 30 years. The DoD funded important research on the 90's to go with this internet thing they made. Bitcoin wallets aren't made for micropayments and the network is only really set up for sequential micropayments between two parties... If you are really interested in the micropayment topic, see mike hearn et al's work: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=244656.0

I'm no expert coder, but I hear the early versions were quite a tangled mess...
|
|

this argument is old. now lets do something thats another old topic but atleast moving it forward
"bits" what symbols to use for a bit (100 satoshi's)
. þ .
. Þ .
. β .
. Ъ .
. ъ . (yes there is a minor difference)
. Б .
. Ѣ .
. ᵬ .
. ҍ .
This. We need to decide if we want to actually obtain Unicode code points for bitcoins and subunits.

You do realize we didn't always have exchanges or local bitcoins.com, right? And if you want to buy or sell ฿500, there aren't many places to do that easily...
I don't think there are any places you could buy or sell 500btc without causing a major spike or crash in prices. A private sale would prevent that. See the Silk Road bitcoin auction as an example. Had those 30,000 seized bitcoins been dumped on an exchange, it probably would have eaten through every single buy order and crashed the price to 0 in an instant. Exactly. Hence the ratings.
|
|
|
I personally believe that the price will increase by at least a factor of 100 over the next 2 years. Therefore, investing all your life savings would be a very wise decision.
I'm not sure about the numbers, but the concept is valid. I never intended to end up with basically everything in Bitcoin. I can afford to lose it all though. I'm young enough and have a stable, reasonably well paying career to look forward to.
|
|
|
If young and employed and little life savings, I guess it makes sense. If any of those cinditions is untrue, I'd call it unwise to foolish.

Warning: necro
Remember when it was as easy as "click generate?" Even then, very few people did, and often those that did, like myself, didn't do it for very long.
It has taken enormous amounts of work to make Bitcoin into something worth the serious effort of miners. Bitcoin still has a long way to go to grow into a robust high volume transaction network affordable by all. I hope we get there. I think we will.
