7 left according to my cart.

I just invested quite a bit in new GPUs and as part of the end goal I ordered BFL singles. The plan is to phase out the GPUs with the singles as they arrive.

Little to no revenue would be lost as I have built into my model a two card failure system. I have two cards that I tested that are sitting on a shelf as spare parts. I would replace the broken card with that one, then order a replacement with either overnight shipping or second day shipping as I have free two day shipping with Newegg and Amazon.

Wait so instead of losing 2 weeks of revenue when a card does die (if/when that happens) you will lose 50 weeks of revenue the hot spares could be generating all the weeks that they aren't running?

Well whatever works for you.

Right now the quantities of cards I am ordering frequently puts Newegg out of stock on the models I order. I picked up the spares to serve as fill-in cards when I get bad cards right from Newegg as well as hot spares for what I would consider a premature failure. Once I stop expanding the operation, and quantities are more readily available, then I would probably not have a hot spare as a direct replacement is only 48 hours from my door step.

You just asked me how much revenue I would loose, and based on my current growth and operation the answer is none.

Once my operation is done expanding the answer to your question is I would loose 48 hours of revenue for one single card at most.

Edit: Eventually many cards would be replaced with BFL singles once my orders start shipping, but I didn't want to put my entire investment in one basket with BFL and wait a couple months not making any revenue. I wanted to start and get a solid 8 months of mining in before the inevitable reduction in reward.

Since I have not done anything to the card and they have a warranty, what do I care if they burn out their fans?

How much revenue will you lose when you need to RMA it (and yes @ 100% fan you WILL need to RMA it), your card is at 0 MH/s for 2 weeks, and you have to pay the shipping.

Also with an RMA you never get your card back you get one from the pile of "fixed cards".  Maybe from that gamer who abuses the living hell out of it with overvolting and damaged the VRM just enough to cause instabilities but still pass RMA inspection.

I had a fan fail under warranty and replaced it myself because of the risks of getting someone elses piece of shit card plus shipping costs and downtime made it more expensive to RMA.

I also do not use RMAed cards, so as soon as the card was sent back to me, it would be sold on Ebay or other avenue as a "recently RMAed" card with all sorts of language in the listing so people know what they are buying.

I did not say I run the cards at 100% fan 100% of the time. I let the fans go up to 100% if needed. I run them at 1150 core clock. They usually hover in the 80% range most of the time with the occasional drift up to 100%. I have also built into my model current pricing on the 7970 and have taken a slightly more aggressive depreciation on the card over current Ebay pricing.

As the weather warms up and my air cooling begins to cause the cards to run more into the 100% range, I will be running numbers on slower clocks and lower fans speeds versus an air conditioning model to determine profits.

I now have 8 XFX BE 7970s running and noticed they run a little warmer. I just let the fan run up to 100%. Since I have not done anything to the card and they have a warranty, what do I care if they burn out their fans? I don't game with my machines as they are dedicated miners, but as long as they are not unstable, I don't care.

I ended up doing a re-install and not doing any updates. 12.2 drivers and my 3x7970 became stable.

A friend of mine used one of the plastic sheds you can get at a home improvement store. It needed quite a bit of caulking to get it more air tight. He bought one with a window and a skylight in it. He brings outside air in from the window and has some kind of exhaust fan going out the top. He uses furnace filters on the in take to reduce dust.

He built a wooden shelf unit to be able to put a decent sized air conditioning unit into the window for summer running.

I forgot they are a total rip if you only buy 1 and don't have free shipping. I have the free 2 Day shipping on Newegg so they only are $2.30 at the most which is pretty cheap.

I would be willing to order them for BTC payment and set up the shipping to your address if someone wants.

I use these on boards with out built in switches:

I am getting the same problem on a brand new 3x 7970 install. I installed 12.3 drivers and they are XFX Black Editions running stock everything. Win 7 - 64 clean install, with just 12.3 installed and CGMiner. Runs for about 30 minutes to 2 hours and crashes out. At first I saw this thread and thought it might be CGMiner so then I tried Diablo, with the same result.

So there must be something I am missing during the install or setup.

Not sure if this should or should not be happening, but when I look at one of my workers it does a couple shares of private then a couple public then a couple more private and so on.

It seems really strange. Did you change how that works by chance?
153  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: March 08, 2012, 01:11:45 PM
Mine spent more on my private pool for sure, but the payment looks about right given what I spent on private.

Same for me. I wonder if the new invites caused the reduction in the availability of public work.

I want to know why their shipping is $34. They sent them out in USPS boxes(but didn't use USPS as the shipper), and based on the dimensions USPS flat rate large boxes could be used for a flat cost of $15.50. This does not include the online purchase price discount or if they actually implemented using the new USPS regional rate boxes which are just as large and can cost quite a bit less then the flat rates depending on where the end location is and how heavy the overall package is.

If they are willing to sudo abuse the postal service for free boxes, then they should purchase a used UPS zebra printer for $99 and then order the free thermal labels from UPS to print your USPS postage on. Not to mention, you can then use Paypal's shipping software to print in bulk to the thermal printer.

I just can't believe they would stuff $20 worth of shipping materials into the boxes.

lol, no offense but you are a cheap, cheap man arent you? Wink

I guess cheap is the correct phrase if you mean, not just throwing my money around at stuff when I know it doesn't cost what someone wants to charge me. Its 2.5% of the sale price. How about everything you buy from now on you just send me 2.5% of the total cost in BTC? Since you don't mind paying 2.5% more for something. Do you just pay face value for a car when you know the list price is a thousand bucks cheaper? Most people don't. So yes, I am "cheap" and I am proud as hell of it.

I got to where I am today by holding on to the money I have, and if I just said oh well it's "just" $20 every time something was blatantly marked $20 higher than it needed to be, I wouldn't be a millionaire by 31. I am not trying to throw that in your face, and I did admit that I am an online retailer. I ship hundreds of items daily and I know what stuff costs to send through the postal service. Anyways enough from me cause clearly I am being absurd.

Feel free to send your 2.5% to the following address:

Edit: And the beer comment is pretty funny.

They wouldn't be the first company too bad shipping costs. Smiley  Hardly a sin.

Isn't it funny shipping costs are always either too high or too low?

I can get a 60" HDTV delivered from Amazon for $0 shipping and sometimes a fan on newegg can have higher shipping cost than purchase price. Smiley

I think their shipping was $24 before and they raised it. Yeah its not a sin, it just strikes me funny when businesses in general publish their shipping rates and because I am an online retailer I know they are just full of it. They imbed their margins into shipping costs.
Every company does that.  Often times, it's because it also includes the wages/labor hours used to package, any packaging materials, cost of boxes, etc.  And then some extra to pad the revenues.

$15-$20 just seems a bit excessive for one product when if you ordered 10 the shipping rate is the same.

And no, not every company does it to this extent.

Insurance.

Shipping a large flat rate box with online purchase of the insurance and the postage costs: $22.80.

If they used Regional Rate B boxes which are 12" x 10-1/4" x 5", which should fit the box according to their website specifications: $16.33.

Edit: The regional rate costs would change based upon where they are sending them. But they should almost always be cheaper than the flat rate, and if not then..go flat rate.

I mentioned to you in my PM that recently the quality of the 5970s I have been getting on flea-bay have been sub par. I am seeing ~40% "failure rate" of the 5970s in the past ~30 days in the ones I got. Most of the failures have to do with the card starting up just fine and running without problems for about two to three minutes, and then the temp gauges suddenly go from 60-65C to 120ishC and the card stops responding and crashes out the whole system.

When I set the clocks down to normal levels the card will run without issue, but it runs 10-15C hotter then the 5970s next to it that are overclocked to 800. They are all spaced out with enough room between the cards to have two dual slot cards between them. I also have box fans blowing in cool air into the rack they are mounted on so I know its not a heat problem.

I also have AX1200s for all my rigs and I still experienced this problem when I did the following:

1. Brand new motherboard of the same make/model.
2. Replaced riser.
3. Replaced PSU with brand new AX1200
4. Replaced outlet.
5. Replaced breaker.
6. Clean install.

It "feels" like people run into this issue and since they are out of warranty they throw the card on Ebay and sell it off. It could also be pure luck that I have gotten bad cards lately. 5870s all seem to the fan or fan controller that are burning out on me a couple weeks after getting them.

Edit: It happens to me any any mem clock. I don't have a good number on specific temps.

I don't think this one meets XFX's criteria for lifetime warranty. I believe this model is 2 years only. The model number is FX-797A-TNBC.

XFX Radeon HD 7000 Series Graphics Cards with 10-digit model numbers ending in “R” (example: “FX-797A-TDFR”) from their warranty page located here:

http://xfxforce.com/en-us/help/support/warrantyinformation.aspx

The second card with the dual fans, can be extended to lifetime however.

XFX Radeon HD 7000 Series Dual Fan (Double Dissipation Edition) Graphics Cards with Ghost Technology; a floating cover design that maximizes airflow by creating exceptional venting throughout the card.
