The way I see it, there is no performance benefit in supporting multiple GPU's from the same instance. It's just aesthetic.
Reducing the number of keystrokes to perform a given task is not a performance benefit?
Wouldn't there be fewer processes, therefore a reduced memory footprint?
142  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: NPW 5.1 p2Pool - bad luck or flawed? on: July 02, 2012, 07:54:51 PM
From what I've read of your posts, I don't think that's something you know - it's something you've been told.
Actually, by Actuaries, one of which is a family member, who passed the first 4 tests without a retest, and does complex math in the head I would have trouble entering into a calculator. Yes it's true my math sk1llz are limited to some simple algebra at best and Boolean equations make me cross-eyed.

So I'm encouraging you to learn about statistical analyses. http://oli.cmu.edu/courses/free-open/statistics-course-details/ is good, and assumes no prior stats knowledge on your part.
I appreciate the learning link, this will be handy in the future.

I know you're emotional about this, but that doesn't excuse you from accusing me of falsifying data when you don't yet have the knowledge on which to base such a claim.
I speak for and to those who can't do complex math to solve a simple problem. You say emotional I say concerned, but I guess we are each attempting to portray a perspective.

So far, I haven't seen any comparable analysis from your side yet. So... put up or shut up?

-- Smoov
So then, a graph, from beginning to current, showing actual v. expected, would be the only counter point you would except, is that right?
Considering my math skill level that would take a month at least, that includes the youtube videos I will need to watch to learn how to use OoCalc. Wink

Can't wait for the multi GPU build for cluster vanitygening. Will it scale across systems on the same network like cluster knoppix does?
You can already do this — just fire up a new instance for every GPU.

  • How do I get oclvanitygen to use all of my GPUs?
    Support for using multiple GPUs from the same instance will not be very difficult to do, and is planned for a future release.

@samr7 Would this be useful to vanitygen?

I'm having an issue with running Armory and etotheipi is unable to direct me in determining what is wrong though he thinks not enough memory. It runs fine, according to him, in a 1GB VM. I would like to provide an answer that will explain what is really happening, though my linux skills are limited, and so I ask for your help.

The system is an Ubuntu like 11.04 64bit with 1 GB of RAM.

This is what top says while running Armory and everything is very slow and crashes cgminer.

Code:
Mem:   1021836k total,  1010296k used,    11540k free
Yet all processes total only 60% of memory, what is consuming the other 35%-40% of memory besides processes that would make the system so sluggish?
What tools can I run that will help identify what is happening and can put into a report or log?

Cheers

bullshit stories in the bible.
There is too much evidence proving the bible is a historical account of real events.
Noah's Ark: Found!
Red Sea Crossing: Found!
Mountain onto which God descended: Found!
Ark of the Covenant: Found!

Historical fact of the bible is not contested but dates are. For instance, when did Moses live? Current theory states 1400BC, but I can show hebraic worship of ShangDi in China going back to at least 2500BC.

It's a communication occuring in the blockchain for bot and master or hacker and colluding party which provides commands for direction or execution. If they change the wording of their communication, good luck finding them again.

]Since you feel the need to argue in a thread dealing with statistics ... but you are ignoring that fact ...
Look up and learn all about these 2 words in detail and how they relate to statistics:
Sample, Population.
I know that statistics can be skewed to promote a particular view. As a matter of fact, statistics classes teach about representing perspectives with results, in the way election campaigns do or marketers.
What value is there for statistics when 5th or 6th grade math is sufficient to prove organofcorti's statements are erroneous.
Using statistics to determine profitability for p2pool would be like trying to open a jar of jelly with a sledge hammer. Sure you can do it, but it is way more than is required to accomplish the task.

150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Guest-to-Host VM Escape Vulnerability on: June 30, 2012, 06:50:51 PM
Look out Linode!!!

Quote
The U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) has issued an alert for a dangerous guest-to-host virtual machine escape vulnerability affecting virtualization software from multiple vendors.

The vulnerability, which affects 64-bit operating systems and virtualization software running on Intel CPU hardware, exposes users to local privilege escalation attack or a guest-to-host virtual machine escape.

From the advisory:

A ring3 attacker may be able to specifically craft a stack frame to be executed by ring0 (kernel) after a general protection exception (#GP). The fault will be handled before the stack switch, which means the exception handler will be run at ring0 with an attacker’s chosen RSP causing a privilege escalation.

Affected vendors include Intel Corp., FreeBSD, Microsoft, NetBSD, Oracle, RedHat, SUSE Linux and Xen.

151  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Beware the Ides of July 9, 2012 and DNS Changer Trojan on: June 30, 2012, 06:29:05 PM
Quote
In about two weeks, hundreds of thousands of computer users are going to learn the hard way that failing to keep a clean machine comes with consequences. On July 9, 2012, any systems still infected with the DNSChanger Trojan will be summarily disconnected from the rest of the Internet, and the latest reports indicate this malware is still resident on systems at 12 percent of Fortune 500 companies, and roughly four percent of U.S. federal agencies.

In a bid to help users clean up infections, security experts won court approval last year to seize control of the infrastructure that powered the search-hijacking Trojan. But a court-imposed deadline to power down that infrastructure will sever Internet access for PCs that are not rid of the malware before July 9, 2012.

152  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [Conspiracy theory] Have blocks of bitcoin a second purpose? on: June 30, 2012, 06:00:10 PM
The only conspiracy that can result from bitcoin mining would be a pool mod that really works for the NSA, GRU or some other 3 letter organization, which siphons off hashing power for some other nefarious purpose, sort of like cracking whirlpool passwords using oclhashcat.

I am having that EXACT issue with a 5850.. a tiny resistor fell off when I was cleaning it... It was having issues... Would mine for a minute.. temps would go to 127.5 and lock up... the entire rig.

Everything looks perfect on the card except this one tiny transistor.
Like DNA, which is comprised of 4 heterocyclic bases, there are only 4 electronic components, the resistor, capacitor, transistor and memristor. So which is it that fell off?
154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 6.66 Mark of the Beast!! ZOMG!!! on: June 30, 2012, 04:40:34 PM
Damned? I don't know but what you say isn't very Christian.  I am surprised by how many so-called Christians never seem to make it out of the old testament and read the new one... The part that has the teachings of Jesus in it. I don't know how the old one can even be called Christian, since it came before Jesus and in a way the new testament is a repudiation of that mean spirited desert God of vengeance Yaweh, and instead talks about a God of Love.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. [Matthew 5:9]

Resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. [Matthew 5:39]

I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for
them which despite-fully use you, and persecute you; [Matthew 5:44]

If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to cast a stone at her. [John 8:7]

Do not judge, lest you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the
measure you use, it will be measured to you. [Matthew 7:1 & 2.]

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy [Matthew 5:7]

But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.  [Matthew 6:15]

~~~
Whoops maybe you are damned, or at least your hypocrisy seems to have upset your Father.
Uhm...What bs are you spouting?  Jesus himself states the importance of the Old Testament.
Luke 16:31
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
luke 24:27
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
This is OffTopic to the 666 thread any way.
158  Other / Off-topic / How fast is the speed of light? on: June 25, 2012, 04:58:41 AM
The speed of light in a vacuum, usually denoted by c, is a universal physical constant important in many areas of physics. The value is explained as 299,792,458 metres per second, or represented as 186,282.397 miles per second. From a perspective, this may appear correct but in actuality is incorrect. The photon does not travel in a straight line, it travels in a corkscrew, that 2-dimensionally we call a wave. Light does not travel at 186,282 miles per second, in actuality, the particle of light travels 3.41 times faster than we are lead to believe.
635,222.97377 miles per second is the true speed of light.
It's not out of line at all. There is a preponderance of evidence of organofcorti's p2pool posts where he flat out says or implies p2pool is the least profitable pool.
Please provide a link to a post where I flat out say that p2Pool is the least profitable pool.
Below are 2 examples out of many that show organofcorti talking about p2pool earnings in relation to other pools:
Quote from: organofcorti
you're earning less than at a PPS pool.
and
Quote from: organofcorti
you should continue mining at p2Pool, despite the lower earnings.
I have provided 2 samples, 7 day recent and a 31 day historical that show his assertions are nonsense. organofcorti's assessment of p2pool profitability is erroneous, designed to confound and dishearten the uninformed.
160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Found a hidden process, now what? on: June 25, 2012, 02:28:04 AM
tzdata, is one of a small list of programs that is allowed complete internet access through all IDS and firewalls.
What are you talking about? tzdata is a collection of data files (as the name suggests), and contains no programs. The only executable file related to it (tzconfig) is actually just a shell script consisting entirely of an echo command displaying installation instructions. Nothing related to tzdata should be accessing the network in any way, and you can safely delete any executable files related to it.
Well then, I must have misunderstood the Ubuntu help code boxes that show tzdata collecting local and utc time, assuming it had network functions. Since I don't need to put anymore time and effort into tzdata I can focus on more probable targets.
pcap:
Will pcap files gathered from/on a system that may be infected provide useful data?
I don't have a switch that can do port mirroring so what methods would help me to overcome this limitation?
