This season Barcelona lost in all aspects to its rivals, the crushing defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup showed how weak Barcelona's defense was, the sharpness of the front line was also not as sharp as last season. Barcelona must learn valuable lessons from the humiliating defeat they just experienced in the Super Cup final, now they need to maintain their performance in the UCL, La Liga and Copa Del Rey. I still hope that Xavi can bring changes to improve performance to win one of the trophies that are still possible to win. Things are not too bad for Roma and they can take over the fourth position from Fiorentina with only 5 points less. With this big change at their coach position, and with this appointment of Daniele De Rossi as their temporary head coach till the season ending, Roma actually are putting themselves in bigger troubles. Daniele is a great player but as a coach, he did not achieve anything and last season, he was even sacked when managing a Serie B club. With this poor coach record, it's hard for him to manage Roma well. They will nearly fail in top four competition and almost not be able to repeat success in Europa League. Generally Roma made a big and bad decision. De Rossi's quality is very far from Mourinho's and I don't understand what Roma management was thinking to find a way out and instead made things worse. As one of the big teams in Serie A, I think Roma have failed and maybe they deserve to be at the bottom of the table next time if the decision alone is not right. Now the situation is much worse and Roma should be able to give Mourinho time until the end of the season to fix his player's performance problems and not fire him half way through the season like this. |

Bilbao is proving game after game that they are indeed a solid team who could finish in top 4 and with a bit of luck they will catch an UCL spot that will bring a lot of income to the club but also a great experiences for the fans who kinda forgot how it feels to play in european competitions.  I just looked at the La Liga standings and I was surprised to see that Bilbao is now in 3rd place in the standings and they even have the same results as Barcelona. It's a bit of a note that Bilbao is superior to Barcelona because of the number of goals they produce and Barcelona, as we know, always can't win by a big margin. The fight for a place in the top 4 is exciting to follow and perhaps we will see a new team finish in this place at the end of the season and I hope one of them will be Bilbao. |

I'm wondering what Arsenal will do as of this stage in the Champions League. They had a successful group stage as expected. Now I can say that they have a comfortable matchup to play against Porto as well. Because I don't believe Porto are one of the teams that can eliminate Arsenal in this tournament. Porto couldn't even beat Barcelona in the group stage. I mean that Barcelona aren't weak of course but I don't think they have played better than Arsenal at all.  Anyway I see Arsenal in the quarter finals already to tell the truth. But they had better improve their performance more as there is some decline recently. When Arsenal was drawn against FC Porto in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, I expected Arsenal to win against FC Porto but with the recent performance of Arsenal, I'm not sure if Arsenal could be able to beat FC Porto. If FC Porto can play well in their home, I believe they will beat Arsenal. The next Champions League game is still a month away, Arsenal have time to recover and have a great game against Porto, it's too early for them to denigrate the defeat when they could well be off to a decent start in their league.
