142  Local / India / Re: Something is holding cryptocurrency innovation in India. on: April 14, 2014, 07:53:14 AM
Lack of seed funding prevents this in a big way.
India does not earn at the same level as people abroad.
From what I have seen, techies working with companies, do not involve with projects outside work hours. If they do, their commitment is shoddy and in most cases, nothing gets done.
Even at a planning stage for an OS pack, India tends to talk about how to make money from the final product. In the event that monetization cannot happen, people lose interest.

I have been unable to find a single techie who would be willing to contribute to FOSS and then work on the monetary aspects after product development.
And without FOSS, there will always be limited innovation from India.

We know where the problem lies.

The question is how can we change the  thought process? What initiative can we as a small community do to encourage more participation in the opensource community?

These questions needs solutions.  FOSS needs to be actively promoted.

India is the IT outsourcing hub of the world, there are tens of thousands of tech engineers graduating every year. The IT sector tops the share market..Bangalore,chennai, Hyderabad  and whats not..

But even with all of these what is the role of our country in cryptocurrency ecosystem?

There are hundreds of alt coins and not a single one is from India.

only one or two exchanges are there in India..

There are projects like Etherium, Blockchain 2.0 applications etc..Does anyone from India play any role in it?

I feel something is really holding this nation back inspite of its abundant IT human resource.

Whats your opinion ..

Problem being India does not have an opensource community at all. Zero is the opensource contribution happening.
I can say there are a few Indians in the opensource community that do contribute, but that number is negligible.

The problem is that people in India mostly think about the profit factor and earning money. the social factor is verry little (Will see some defenders crawl out of the woodworks now.)

Exchanges really dont matter when it comes to bitcoin and the technology involved in it .

The only thing that is holding back India is the human factor in social contribution in the field of opensource technology.

P.S- i am talking about Indians living in India, not Indians who moved abroad who have a high opensource participation, especially in the linux kernal dev.

156  Local / Mining (India) / Re: Custom Open rigs for Scrypt mining on: March 27, 2014, 02:24:13 PM
I have been scrypt mining on 2 x 280X since Dec using a regular computer cabinet. I use a raiser on one of the gpu cards so that they are not next to each other. The temps ran 82 on the gpu attached to the MB and 72 on the raised. This arrangement worked well.

Now in summer however, the gpu slotted on the 16x is 90c and the raised gpu is 84c. I have placed a cheap fan next to the cabinet and that seems to work for now.

I am contemplating builting an open rig but don't have any ideas.

Has anyone built one here in India? I am based in Bangalore. Is there anyone out there who can help me?

BitCoinDream wants this coin to be named as Bharat Ratna. BitCoinDream thinks the coin will get instant popularity if it can be named like this Wink

+1. i hope complications wont happen though - it is a name of the national award

It may create complication.
158  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: Customs Duty on importing miner from china to india? on: March 26, 2014, 03:56:02 PM
Make sure the seller do not write ridiculously low price. If the customs officer gets a doubt and investigates the price on that product, and if he figure out that it is worth more than what is mentioned, he will hold it at the office. You will have to go to him to collect it and you will have a long story to tell to some one after you come out of his office. So be careful !

Also as far as i know, as this will be a finished product, it will come to about 30% + handling and release charges from the courier guys.
Keep the receipt of the product and custom duty you have paid. You will be able to claim depreciation expense when you earn some profit from it when u sell those coins (if you are a tax payer).

They will not hold it at office, but change the price and charge relevant duty for the same. Most of the times, the product will be overvalued by them.
I assume that they look through some CPI that they have with them for most electronic products.

Yeh thats true they once did that when i had ordered a specialized router. they changed the sellers value and put a higher one. cant contest the change had to pay the entire amount.
159  Local / India / [POLL] Crypto currency name. on: March 26, 2014, 02:38:00 AM
Hi,

As most of you all know that that Project nemesis was aimed to introduce a cryptocurrency specifically targeting India and south asia, with its goal to introduce and familiarize people on how cryptocurrency worked.

We are currently at a  Public Beta test https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=527703.0  to check stability, and to identify any bugs in the  system.

As the project moves forward we are faced with a challenge of picking up a name that would be suitable for  the subcontinent.

We request you to  take  some time and vote on what name would be best suited.

If you have any other suggestion on a name please post your recommendation on the name.

Coin Names.

AditiCoin - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aditi Aditi Means Limitless . Aditi Means Motherhood

Vitta - Sanskrit for money/wealth

Crypto Rupee - the name speaks for it self

Crypto Anna -  Inspired from old indian curriencies - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_Indian_coins

My recomendation is to name the Client " Aditi ", and name the currency "Vitta"

160  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: Customs Duty on importing miner from china to india? on: March 26, 2014, 12:04:37 AM
the seller told me he will write the price as low as he can so that i dont have to pay a hefty sum of taxes, does that work?

Yup that will work,  you  will get charged the custom and tax  on the  amount the seller  wrote down.
