14181  Other / Politics & Society / Re: So, let's talk about that new abortion law... on: February 04, 2019, 07:53:13 PM
As a doctor, I had some interesting points I could have made here, particularly in relation to those posted by theymos, but I see it's taken us less than 10 replies for this thread to degenerate in to accusations of eugenics and Nazism...
14182  Other / Meta / Re: About unjust prohibition on: February 04, 2019, 02:20:52 PM
Let's wait for the "I made mistake, pls forgive me, can I get second chance?" posting to begin.
The excuses are getting tiresome. I stopped playing bingo long ago after the card filled up so rapidly. I seem to remember one guy managed to churn out 9 different excuses in a single thread. Would love to see some new and original excuses - no one is going to believe the old excuses anymore.

My flat mate, whom I had recently pranked by pouring laxatives in his morning coffee, resulting in him getting a written warning from work after spending the first 4 hours of his day in the toilet and causing half a floor to be evacuated because of the smell, wanted to "get one back at me" and posted a plagiarized post.

I clicked the "reply" button, and then had to step away from my computer to deal with a rogue spacecraft which had landed in my garden. The otherworldly noises and lights scared my dog who ran across my keyboard, simultaneously pressing "Ctrl + V" with his paws (pasting in a phrase I had recently copied and properly attributed for my PhD research paper), followed by "Tab" and then "Enter", posting the content.

I, in fact, didn't plagiarise at all. What I wrote was so true, so mind bending, so completely astronomically ground breaking, that the inventor of the first time machine tooks my words, went back in time, and stole credit for himself!
14183  Economy / Reputation / Re: @Timelord2067 on: February 04, 2019, 11:50:21 AM
I did wonder why he was complaining about that one specific non-DT red trust and not the 10 or so DT ones he has. Turns out that Timelord2067's is the only one Thule can see because he has Timelord2067 on his trust list, and it seems he doesn't even realise what that means.

This "union of conspirators" gets more hilarious by the day.
14184  Other / Meta / Re: We need to put an end to this Merit abusing ring on: February 04, 2019, 09:50:07 AM
Merit abuse is not something that theymos wants to be dealt with using the trust system, and so you will struggle to find any DT members who are going to be willing to tag these accounts:
If a DT member tags you for something stupid involving merit (ie. probably anything less than selling merit), then they're not going to be a DT member for much longer.

Your best bet is going to be reporting the accounts for breaking the rules - thread bumping, spamming, plagiarism, etc.
14185  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [02/02/2019] Why Pantera Capital Thinks This Bitcoin Bear Market is Different on: February 03, 2019, 09:08:20 PM
Bear market is a TA term and it ends when there's an increase in value after a long period of downward pressure. Even if we were to continue sideways for another month we would still be in a bear market, just like we were at 6k (2 months of sideways trading).
Thanks for the explanation - I'm not a trader, and I don't put much faith in TA so I don't pay much attention to it. Is the reverse also true - it's a bull market until there is a decrease in value after a long period of upward pressure? Therefore, there is no such thing as a sideways market?

But no one tells them to put half of their money in Bitcoin, they can put 0.1% of their funds and have a pretty good chance for x10 returns in a few years. Sure, Bitcoin has a big risk, but the reward is even bigger, so the expected value is positive.
There is no point to that, though. Think of all the paperwork and regulations they would have to go through to invest in cryptocurrency at all, all the hoops they would have to jump through. It's simply not worth it for such tiny amounts. Until they are willing to risk a good few percents of their funds, they just won't bother.
14186  Other / Meta / Re: 250 profiles merited (by me) in 1 hour and 2 minutes – What’s got over me? on: February 03, 2019, 08:02:29 PM

I do try. Smiley

All five of those users are indeed merit sources, which you can see by comparing how much merit they have sent (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsendat) and how much they have earned. My merit source allocation is very low*, and I find I actively have to refrain from meriting good posts by users who don't "need" the merit like suchmoon, The Pharmacist, LoyceV, etc, so I still have some available to send to non legendary members who deserve to rank up.

*Is it cheeky to ask for boost already? I've only been a merit source for a month, but I used up all my source sMerits in about 6 days, and now I'm on my last 1 or 2 of my own sMerits too.
14187  Other / Meta / Re: How does this forum differ from a dictatorial regime on: February 03, 2019, 07:44:23 PM
I still want an answer how does this forum differ from a dictatorship regime.
You have been given several answers, they just don't fit your preconceived notions and so you have ignored them. What you are actually looking for is an answer which will fit your narrative, and I'm afraid that you are unlikely to find that here.
14188  Economy / Reputation / Re: A boycott of replies to the recent extensive trolling by cryptohunter on: February 03, 2019, 04:01:33 PM
As far as I understand how the new system works, the chance that this will actually happen is extremely unlikely.
Oh absolutely. I had a quick look through the users in that thread and the ones who are using the trust list that OP posted. cryptohunter has the most earned merit out of any of them at 93 - most of them are just alts and sockpuppets. Between them all, they can barely scrape together enough "10 earned merit" votes to get a single person on their list to meet the DT requirements, and they aren't even close to the "250 earned merit" requirements. It will take them literally years at their current rate of earning merits to get a single one of them elected on to DT.

Bearing in mind to overthrow the system and release the tidal wave of scammers they will need more DT1 members include than exclude their list, so they are currently looking at requiring something like 30 DT1 members. It will literally never happen. Doesn't make it any less dangerous or insane to "form a union" and advocate for it though.
14189  Economy / Reputation / Re: A boycott of replies to the recent extensive trolling by cryptohunter on: February 03, 2019, 03:31:03 PM
I've been ignoring him for quite some time, but this post just shows how far he's fallen.

He started off arguing that not all plagiarizers should be banned, and there are some amazing newbies not receiving merit. While I disagree with those points (the latter having pretty much been proved wrong by this thread) and I disagreed with the way he made them, I thought he was simply misguided. I even argued on his behalf to try to clear his negative trust, even though all I got in return from him was abuse.

Now he is advocating for scammers. He is supporting the use of a trust list which would aim to replace the entirety of DT with a bunch of accounts which are either inactive, trolls, scammers, or some combination of those three. This would give literally thousands of scammers a clean trust rating and release them back on to the forum. This is no longer just misguided trolling.

14190  Other / Meta / Re: How does this forum differ from a dictatorial regime on: February 03, 2019, 02:57:39 PM
I mean, theymos literally just changed the entire DT system so it based on community votes rather than on his own opinion. Community voting is pretty much the exact opposite of a dictatorship. Still, even if DT was chosen solely by him, it still wouldn't be a dictatorship because red trust doesn't force you to do anything - you are free to continue to use the forum, complain about the forum, or leave the forum.
14191  Other / Meta / Re: [UPDATED] LoyceV's Trust list viewer (updated weekly) on: February 03, 2019, 12:34:44 PM
After much confusion at how I was being so stupid and seemed unable to accurately count beyond 10, it seems your Ranking Up Pipeline is over-counting in some categories by 1. I think it is due to you counting everyone as a "vote" for themselves - so users with 250 or more merits have an extra vote in this category, while users with between 10 and 249 merits have an extra vote in this one. At least, that theory holds true for the 4 or 5 accounts I was interested in.
14192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This guy says crypto ruined his life but he spent it on a high risk lifestyle on: February 03, 2019, 12:08:55 PM
This is a similar situation to all the lottery winners who end up bankrupt. Lottery winners are more likely to go bankrupt than the average citizen, and statistics show that up to one third of US lottery winners end up bankrupt. You take an average citizen, working constantly and with dreams of traveling, buying a big house, fast car, etc, suddenly give them the means to effortlessly achieve all those dreams, and expect them to act completely responsibly, then apparently one third of them won't. I imagine if we could we would see similar statistics for those who "win big" on crypto.

it was not "crypto" that ruined his (imaginary?) life but it was himself and his addictive personality.
This is it exactly. Although one third of people can't handle money and end up ruining themselves, two thirds don't. Two thirds are responsible and don't blow their fortune on hookers. If this story is true (and I have my doubts), he ruined himself by being immature and irresponsible. The crypto was just a means to an end.
14193  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [02/02/2019] Why Pantera Capital Thinks This Bitcoin Bear Market is Different on: February 03, 2019, 11:52:57 AM
As soon as institutional investors see a stable market, they will be willing to invest on a more regular basis.
Agreed. Knowing how ridiculous the last bull run was, when the next one is beginning I think many people won't be able to hold back.

Still, I wonder how long will this bear market last, it's been 411 days at least.
Can we still call this a bear market? Serious question. We've been pretty much static for the last month, and always at a price higher than the $3,200 low we hit back in December. I don't think this is a bear market as much as it is a sideways market. I understand your sentiment, though. But as long as development is ongoing and adoption is spreading, I honestly wouldn't mind another 411 days at these prices.
14194  Other / Meta / Re: Technical Issue BBCode/HTML on: February 03, 2019, 11:28:32 AM
If, as you say, the issue is with the first column being limited to 28px, then why not just leave the first column empty and use columns 2, 3 and 4?

It's not the most elegant fix by any means, but it gets the job done.

14195  Economy / Economics / Re: Italy already in recesion on: February 03, 2019, 10:30:03 AM
introducing a no-conditional income of 780 euro per month for all people without real estates.
That's just not true. There are many conditions.

You have to have been resident in Italy for 10 years. Your household (not individual) income must be below €9,360 before you start being awarded anything. The maximum you can receive is €780 if you are living alone and have no income whatsoever. If you are not signed up with a job center and actively seeking work, you don't get the money. If you refuse job offers, you don't get the money.

This is simply an unemployment allowance, which many countries have. It is nothing remotely like a "no-conditional income" as you suggest.

Yeah, I appreciate a perfect list will be impossible without knowing how theymos distributes the votes, but that list is pretty much exactly what I was looking for, thanks. Great work as always.

I'm sure you know this already but all the username links on that page are broken.
14197  Other / Meta / Re: [New] LoyceV's Trust list viewer (updated weekly) on: February 02, 2019, 11:43:27 PM
They don't really seem to understand the importance of Merit though.
Any time this has been pointed out to them in their thread, the user in question has had their post deleted and then been added to their distrust list if they weren't already on it. Roll Eyes

Did you see I've added BBCode?
I had not. Nice feature.

-snip-
Yup, I have the exact same distrust list.

On an unrelated noted, how easy would it be for you to find out/predict who is going to be added to DT1 whenever theymos does his first monthly reconfiguration?
14198  Economy / Economics / Re: Italy already in recesion on: February 02, 2019, 11:36:37 PM
I don't think we are at the brink of economic crisis just because of economic shrank of one country.
The economy shrank in several countries. Italy has just been the first A) to release numbers and B) where it shrank enough to be termed a recession (i.e. 2 simultaneous negative quarters).

Germany's GDP for Q3 last year was -0.2%. They haven't released their figures for Q4 yet, but predictions are they have probably just avoided it at something like 0.05%. Certainly way lower than their previous forecasts. Italy is the world's 8th biggest economy and Germany is its 4th. China could well be in a recession already, but we don't know because they just make up fake numbers to make themselves look better than they are. They are the 2nd biggest economy. The UK (5th biggest economy) will almost certainly face a recession with a no deal Brexit, which is becoming more likely by the day. Some of the largest countries in the world are shrinking and are on the brink of recessions.

The World Bank recently cut their growth forecast for 2019. So did the IMF. And the UN.

I'm not saying we are definitely headed towards a global recession, but it seems more likely than not at the moment.
14199  Other / Meta / Re: [New] LoyceV's Trust list viewer (updated weekly) on: February 02, 2019, 11:12:03 PM
Browsing around, I noticed some low-Merit accounts with very big trust lists. If you start for example with cryptorgasm, you'll find many more like that.
These accounts are using the trust list being shared in the REMOVE LAUDA FROM DT thread. There are 20 accounts at the moment using this trust list, most of them alts or sockpuppets. Essentially anyone who trusts is Lauda is distrusted, and anyone who distrusts Lauda is trusted. You can see the full list of users using this super-smart list by looking at who is trusting any of the lesser-known accounts, such as this one: http://loyce.club/trust/2019-02-02_Sat_23.13h/1059412.html

14200  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: February 02, 2019, 09:22:18 PM
I don't see him on the default trust breakdown list.  Am I looking in the right place?
That only shows the votes of DT1 members for other DT1 members. The lists you are looking for are:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;dt - shows DT1 and DT2 list
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;full;dt - shows each DT1's individual trust list
