14321  Other / Meta / Re: Should trust be moderated? (Poll) on: January 19, 2019, 04:10:43 PM
I agree it should be a forum link only
As pointed out by bones261, I make a point of making all my reference links an archived forum page via archive.today or archive.org. There's no point the reference being to an incriminating post or thread when the user in question can just delete the evidence. Clearly NSFW links should be deleted, though, and the user who left them should receive a ban in my opinion - there's no excuse for that kind of abuse of the system.

14322  Economy / Reputation / Re: Misunderstanding, trust on: January 19, 2019, 02:30:51 PM
The quality of this user's English skills seem to wildly fluctuate. I think this account has changed hands more than once.

Here are some of his English posts from July:
People do not think so, people just hope that this will happen))) When hope leaves from all, then there will be the next wave of strong growth in the prices of all crypto-currencies.
Ethereum of course can be compared with bitcoin in 2020 by capitalization, but because of the large emission it will not be able to cost more than btc.
40 rounds of airdrops, it is so much Etherium going into gas for transactions to participants! I think demo version of game in smart contract help the dev team return their investment  Wink

According to BPIP, the account changed password on 4th September. The quality of English improves significantly following this password change:
I see that there is at least one troll on the thread.  I won't quote their comments because that will just give them more air-time than they deserve.  One thing I noticed was that this person makes the claim that "invites" are at a steady distribution rate.

I, for one, actually read the bluepaper.  And in section 4.6, it clearly highlights how invites are distributed.  It's not steady-state at all.  There are three separate lotteries that distribute invites...

https://www.merit.me/uploads/2018/bluepaper.pdf

Again, I have voiced some concerns and open questions about this project earlier in the thread.  I'd still love to see those answered by a member of the team.

But I don't think it is at all fair or appropriate to spread misinformation about the project.

There is then another password change at the end of December, and the English once again deteriorates markedly:
I did not sell my merit and it doesn’t really bother me! Why do I need it? The guys asked, I set, I do not mind ...
I really want to figure it out, this is a really stupid misunderstanding! I am not the first year on the forum, And I had no problems earlier ...

I am reinforcing this tag. If you can sign a message from an old BTC address as requested, I will be more than happy to remove it.
14323  Other / Meta / Re: Massive abuse in the Russian section. on: January 19, 2019, 01:54:54 PM
Even if theymos adds me to his trust list (which would cause of incredible butthurt for some users)
It actually wouldn't. You already have 6 DT1 exclusions, so one DT1 inclusion would make no difference. You still wouldn't be on DT1 even if theymos included you. As noted by other users already, it might be wise to spend more time understanding the new changes before you try to advise other Russian members on the best course of action.

Also concerning is your repeated assertion that you will "never change your mind". Being unable to consider any point of view other than your own and being unopen to discussion and compromise is not a good attitude to have.
14324  Other / Meta / Re: Massive abuse in the Russian section. on: January 19, 2019, 12:22:57 PM
I just added to my DT0 list of people from Russian locale who create useful topics. I didn't even look at their trust.
That is a very poor way to set up your own trust list. Being useful is not the same as being trustworthy. Creating useful topics would be a reason to send someone merit, not a reason to send them positive feedback, and certainly not a reason to add them to your trust list. If you wish to do so anyway that's absolutely fine, but it is completely reasonable for other members to disagree with this practice and therefore exclude you from their trust lists.

My list of trust in the election did not include any tiilda of those people who unreasonably painted me.
No, but you were added to DT2 courtesy of TheFuzzStone, and immediately left a bunch of positive feedback with no references to your friends for reasons that do not deserve positive feedback such as being a merit source or "honored user". Again, if you want to do that that's fine, but it is also completely reasonable for other members to not want to see these sham ratings and therefore exclude you.

If you don't wish to be excluded, then leave feedback for good reasons and set up trust lists for good reasons. It's a simple as that.
14325  Other / Meta / Re: Massive abuse in the Russian section. on: January 19, 2019, 11:48:54 AM
If you think that Russian fools, it is not so.
No one said that. Newbies, of any language or country, are commonly targeted by scammers, because they are generally easier to fool than people who have been involved in crypto for years already. If you convince all the Russian newbies to set up custom trust lists that exclude all the best scam busters, then Russian newbies will become the favored target for scammers. It has nothing to do with intelligence.

And eliminate the tilde for the most ardent Nazis!
The users who are the "most ardent Nazis" in your opinion, also happen to be some of the most prolific scam busters on the forum. Exclude them if you wish, and convince the entire Russian section to exclude them if you wish, but be prepared for an influx of scammers.
14326  Other / Meta / Re: Massive abuse in the Russian section. on: January 19, 2019, 11:24:12 AM
Any one of us can trust whoever he wants.
Right. You can add anyone you want to your own trust list, and no one is going to stop you from doing that. If you want to add only your friends to your trust list, you are welcome to do so. If you and your friends want to have personal trust lists made up of only the most prolific scammers on the forum, you are welcome to do that too. What you can't expect is for everyone else to sit by and let you and your friends add these scammers to the Default Trust list, and therefore directly cause harm to newbies who do not know any better.

You can have any trust list you want, but if you are going to have a completely irresponsible one, expect to be excluded from DT. It's as simple as that.
14327  Economy / Reputation / Re: A boycott of replies to the recent extensive trolling by cryptohunter on: January 18, 2019, 09:11:02 PM
This isn't working. There are too many people who just come in and try to reason with him in every thread, blissfully unaware that he does not care one iota about logic, sense or rationality. I've pretty much given up on even looking at Meta for the time being. At a time with huge changes to DT, when we should be discussing what is best for the forum and how to go forward from here, every thread is being turned in to his rambling nonsense and abuse.

I've had him on ignore for some time, but I'm willing to bet his posts are all the same as they were a week ago. Given that they break the first three rules (low value, off topic and trolling), can a moderator let us know how long we have to put up with this shitfest before he gets banned? I'd like to be able to have a sensible discussion amongst adults again.
14328  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Cryptocredit foundation - SCAM - FAKE TEAM - ALL are deceased persons on: January 18, 2019, 04:48:16 PM
Not listed on this forum yet, but if you see their post/thread please let me know.
I did find this post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5088442.msg48825859#msg48825859) by user "CryptoCreditFoundation" with links to the site you have exposed, and so have tagged him as such. It's not really a full on "ANN" thread though, so I'd still be on the lookout for more.
14329  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: January 18, 2019, 11:35:54 AM
Get this confirmed by someone that knows what they're talking about before you go and paint the town red  Wink

You are correct. You can also double check by going to any profile you have left trust to, switching to default trust view by adding ";dt" at the end of the URL, and seeing if your name appears under the "Trusted feedback" section. Example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=911719;dt
14330  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: January 18, 2019, 11:09:57 AM
Worth mentioning that this tool is based on the trust dump (available here: https://bitcointalk.org/trust.txt.xz) which is updated once a week on Saturday. So that tool shows the state of the trust network as of last Saturday, and any change made since then (which is probably quite a lot) will not be reflected until the new trust dump tomorrow.
14331  Other / Meta / Re: cryptohunters war against the forum on: January 18, 2019, 09:48:13 AM
You can always just use the Show/Hide button like I do.
Or just leave him on ignore and never hit that button. There is literally no point.

His trolling first started back in December when he was showing up in every ban thread on Meta and arguing that plagiarizers should be given a second chance. Why he started doing this was unclear at the time, and he kept spouting off nonsense about reviewing every post a user has made (completely impossible) and allowing them to plagiarize if they only do it for every 1 in 1000 posts. All became clear when someone discovered he himself is a plagiarizer, and his 1:1000 suggestion would conveniently prevent him from being punished. For some reason, he wasn't banned for this plagiarism. After his plagiarism was discovered, he conveniently forgot about the entire thing.

He also went on a rampage about how merit is just one big circle jerk, and how there are hundreds of great newbies, particularly in the altcoin section, who aren't being merited despite them all making fantastic posts. Presumably this was all resentment at not earning merits himself. He was challenged repeatedly to provide evidence of all these great posts so that we could merit them. Failing to provide a single post himself, he started a thread about it. A month down the line, still nothing. He has conveniently forgotten all about this too.

He has now moved on to raging about trust. Who knows why, or how long it will last before he picks a new topic for his incoherent ramblings. Even when essentially told he was a spamming troll by theymos, his only response has been to double down and spam even more. I mean, we are talking 200+ posts in the last week. He's essentially a Flat Earther - "I'm the only one who is right, everybody else is wrong, and there is literally nothing that will change my mind". There is no point even trying - there is literally nothing you can say to reason with him. Once he gets nowhere with his trust rampage, I have no doubt he'll forget about the whole thing and move on to some new perceived injustice.

Put him on ignore. Leave him on ignore.
14332  Other / Meta / Re: Massive abuse in the Russian section. on: January 18, 2019, 12:19:02 AM
you say peloso trying manipulate but you lie
i see here your manipulation like this  (~ takav mrak ) and this (~ Triz ) there is no such names
next time please dont lie
That was obviously just an issue with translation. Takav mrak = suchmoon and Triz = aTriz. It's hardly a lie.

Also, you are clearly trying to manipulate the trust system:

eщe paз пpизывaю дaвaйтe oбъeдинятьcя тeм бoлee тeймoc дaл нaм этo пpaвo вce ктo жeлaют дoбaвитьcя в мoй cпиcoк мoгyт нaпиcaть мнe в личкy, paзyмeeтcя любoвь дoлжнa быть взaимнoй Roll Eyes
Here you are saying that anyone who wants can message you, and you will add them to your trust list if they also agree to add you to theirs. If that isn't blatant manipulation, then I don't know what is.
14333  Other / Meta / Re: Report to moderators cooldown on: January 18, 2019, 12:07:07 AM
I think reading a post and concluding wether to report it or not takes more than 8 seconds.

Absolutely not.

I report posts as you say - read the post, report it, go back to the thread, move on to the next one. Since you don't actually have to wait for the page to load after hitting the "submit" button, you can go back and move on to the next post very quickly. In cases where the spam posts are only a few words or even a line long, I can get through them in well under 8 seconds. My cooldown is only 4 seconds, and I can still sometimes hit that on a good day. My reporting accuracy is 100%, so I'm not reporting inappropriately either.

I think there is merit to OP's idea. Given that reporting is a completely thankless task, and we rely on it to keep the forum semi-readable, we should be making reporting as easy as possible for the few users who are consistently doing it. I wouldn't remove the cooldown altogether, but certainly linking it to good reports rather than to activity might be a good idea.

14334  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CoinGecko 2018 Crypto Report on: January 17, 2019, 11:40:08 PM
Among the top 5 cryptoassets, Bitcoin Cash saw the worst loss where its price fell by 93%.
No surprises there. Who would have thought that a trash coin which has a civil war and splits itself in to two even more trash coins, both headed by scammers, would be a good store of value?

Towards the end of 2018, as the price of bitcoin and ether touched yearly lows, we saw ICOs struggling to raise funds. The percentage of ICOs meeting their hard cap decreased from around 53% at the start of the year to 10% by the end of the year.
Good. I've been saying for a long time that I hoped a prolonged bear market would start to squeeze the ICO market. Given that >99% of ICOs are pure scams, ICOs struggling to meet their hardcaps and failing before they even start is a good thing. Hopefully this trend continues, and see less of the "get-rich-quick" mindset that leads to newbies getting scammed so often.

Spam is a massive issue and this approach is ignoring the problem rather than solving it.

I don't think there is a way of ever solving the spam issue, short of having every post manually reviewed by a moderator prior to being posted, which is obviously completely untenable. More active reporters and more sub-board moderators would help, but that's a whole 'nother conversation. As I said, I can't blame people for wanting to ignore the problem, but I'm just not too keen on ignoring the users, and therefore removing their only way out of that behavior and condemning them to be spammers forever.

Edit: Spelling
14337  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: January 17, 2019, 07:54:21 AM
It has to be said I do like how fluid this is being compared to the previous system and I do encourage anyone who has an issue with my trust-list to reach out to me, we are a community and DT is here to protect the community, think of it as a true democracy - not Trump, more like the cool dude in charge at your northern neighbor.
I would echo this statement, especially since I am new on DT and doubly especially to the DT1 users who saw fit to include me on their trust lists. The last thing we want is to get in to an back-and-forth escalation of exclusions for inappropriate ratings. Now, while some change and evolution of the system is good and bound to happen from month to month, if all of DT1 fill their lists up with various exclusions, then a small change in DT1 would result in a much larger change in DT2, and then potentially the loss of good feedback or the gain of poor feedback. Much better simply to discuss and resolve concerns in the open.

Agreed.

Given that DT1 and therefore DT2 is going to change by varying degrees each month, I think it makes sense for obvious scammers such as this one to be tagged multiple times. We don't want to be in a situation of relying too heavily on one person's ratings, for them then to disappear from DT for a month or two.
14340  Other / Meta / Re: Browser Addon That Helps You Ignore Spammy Comments on: January 16, 2019, 10:28:44 PM
I am in two minds about this.

On one hand, the spam problem is huge. The majority of topics, and even some entire boards, are unreadable due to bounty spam. I don't blame anyone who wants to try to hide all this nonsense for either an easier forum experience or simply their own sanity, and good work from OP to create this script.

On the other hand, everyone has to start somewhere. While the majority of bounty spammers will be bounty spammers for life, there are undoubtedly a small number who will mature over their time in the forum and become useful contributors. They will never achieve that if senior members are ignoring all their posts, not responding to their questions, and not involving them in discussions. By ignoring them all, we'll also be preventing the few good ones from earning any merit.

As I said, I have no issues with people who want to use this, but it feels too much like newbie jail for me.
