14383  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A black box in your car? Some see a source of tax revenue (In the USA) on: October 28, 2013, 03:43:14 AM
Um that's dumb, why not just tax gasoline like almost every other country? surely the more gasoline you purchase,
the more miles you have driven.
There has been a federal gasoline tax for decades, seems like it is $ 0.21 per gallon.  So there is enough money generated by that to maintain the roads and bridges - but remember, the revenue all goes into the general fund, then Congress spends it.

One argument is that smaller and fuel efficient cars use less gas and thus revenue is down, but this isn't true.

More likely it's that they want data on everywhere everyone goes.  That'd be a goldmine by some peoples' twisted values.

...
...Thanks to Libertarian zeal, a bunch of unrelated points get a tiny bit of scattered coverage, while the main anti-spying point gets brushed under the carpet.
...if that did happen, I would find it extremely annoying and an abuse of a serious, real opportunity for people of widely varying beliefs to come together on a fundamental right of privacy.

Smiley

The argument could be made that per the strict constitutionalist libertarian approach, there is no constitutional right to privacy.

Ignoring the pop music, I have finally found a Christian who has overcome religion and focused solely on the very point of Christianity: to be like Christ.  She has accepted her views as incompatible with reason, because they do not belong together; she has allowed herself to breathe, to experience life without the burden of carrying some life's mission to make everyone like her, for she has accepted, if Christianity is the true method of living, people should flock to it naturally: by being like Christ, opposed to be a "Christian", she will show why she believes Christ's ethics are superior to others.  This is the same ethic followed by Libertarians; "prove it's better and people will follow", where in contrast, it is the Authoritarian who feels the need to convert, for people would otherwise not naturally follow.
....
There are a sizable minority of Christians that have something like this in world view.  I have a suspicion it is based more on a person's fundamental character traits than anything else.

Convert a jerk, he becomes a Christian jerk....etc.
14386  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Don’t ally with libertarians: Ideologues co-opt an anti-NSA rally on: October 27, 2013, 01:02:03 PM
I'm starting to believe democratic socialism is a code word for morally ignorant.  Which is funny, since morality is the foundation of the philosophy of ethics and ethics is the foundation of the philosophy of law and law is the foundation of the civil society which every democratic socialist touts.
The problem with this is it perceives altruistic behavior as a social good when applied and promoted by a government.

.....some complain it exudes a feminine air, despite being named for an especially bellicose Marine. And a change in design would have cost the Corps an estimated $6.9 million, according to a Marines spokesman.
so Obama does want the marines to wear girlie caps.

Maybe his old boyfriend likes them?

ROFL...

Yet I cannot support this coalition or the rally. It is fatally compromised by the prominent leadership and participation of the Libertarian Party and other libertarian student groups; their hardcore ideology stands in direct opposition to almost everything I believe in as a social democrat.

The Libertarian Party itself — inaccurately described by Stop Watching Us as a “public advocacy organization” — is a right-wing political party that opposes all gun control laws and public healthcare, supported the government shutdown, dismisses public education, opposes organized labor, favors the end of Social Security as we know it, and argues in its formal political manifesto that “we should eliminate the entire social welfare system” while supporting “unrestricted competition among banks and depository institutions of all types.”

Okay, you stick with the guys on the other side -the side of government watching and knowing everything we do.

They need some people to help row their boat.

HAHAHAHHHHH!! Cheesy They really don't know what people are capable of on the internet do they? If they can't even block people from using piratebay then they sure as hell aren't going to stop them from organising a protest online.

"Oh no, I've been blocked from facebook! Guess I'd better switch on my VPN now then"

Hiding in plain sight is an ancient art.

Look up the origins of "cockney slang".

This one is hilarious.  Fox News eagerly perpetuating a story from a tabloid as if it's true despite the Marine Corps Commandant today revealing it's a completely false story that never happened:  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/10/24/obama-wants-marines-to-wear-girly-hats/  And it's still on their website as if it's fact.

The story isn't completely false, and did not originate with the New York Post.

It comes from the Marine Times.

14392  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fort Hood soldiers say Army warned them off tea party, Christian groups on: October 25, 2013, 06:19:04 PM
But according to the mainstream media and the president, foxnews is not mainstream but a fringe. The official sanctioned Mainstream Media are: NPR, CBS, NBC, ABC, NYT, MSNBC, Soros founded Media Matters.org, Politico, Daily Beast, OFA, Salon.com. Grin

Well, now.

We can't have reporting on Fast and Furious, Bengazi, the IRS Corruption Caper, or other unsavory things that reflect poorly on the administration, can we?

And think about it.  When an Islamic Fort Hood soldier starts shouting Ala Akbar and killing people, we can't have the media labeling him an "Islamic Terrorist", can we?

Why, the silly trouble maker of a Fort Hood soldier should have gone to CNN.  They wouldn't have reported the story.  And we wouldn't have to worry about it.

Little problem there, boys and girls?
14393  Other / Politics & Society / Re: October 25 2013: We should take a look into Firefox's Lightbeam. on: October 25, 2013, 06:14:19 PM

Yes, I searched for Lightbeam in the addons area but there were no results, whereas Collusion identified itself as Lightbeam after clicking on it...

Early results suggest that the mainstream media, eg the Independent, are the worst offenders!
No.

Today it is there and installs.

NICE!  VERY NICE!
14394  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fort Hood soldiers say Army warned them off tea party, Christian groups on: October 25, 2013, 06:11:25 PM
The Fox news organisation is made up of some of the most stupid people on the planet, they actually believed an onion news network news item was real at one point and just posted it up without thinking, while by itself it's understandable if they didn't realise but they don't even blink when they scream out their stupid shit but that's what most news networks are like anyway.

This type of polarization is the problem, rather than a solution.  I don't particularly understand or like Muslims, those Jews with the funny high hats, Amish, knuckle dragging libtards, and many other types of stereotypes of people.

But that's different than that is being reported on in this thread.

Remember, it's you they come for next.

I'd almost prefer a single payer system myself, over this BS, and that is probably the point of it all.
......some HUGE taking of cash is involved in this....

"Before I had a plan that I had a $1,500 deductible," she said. "I paid $199 dollars a month. The most similar plan that I would have available to me would be $278 a month. My deductible would be $6,500 dollars, and all of my care after that point would only be covered 70 percent."

This sub-thread is about needing insurance to drive on public roads, see the bolded bits of the message I responded to. Since you agree with that, what exactly are you arguing about?
It has nothing to do with US healthcare.

Oh, but it does.  You just don't see where it's going yet, apparently.  No matter; carry on and you'll get there with the rest of the short bus.
Why, down here in the US where I live - close to our fine Southern border -about 30% of the cars on the road don't have insurance.

Neither have they are are they going to pay into healthcare.
14397  Economy / Economics / Re: Argentina nightmare on: October 24, 2013, 08:34:52 PM
Ok
This is not completly true.
I live in Argentina and i can buy dollars and i send dollars to outside. You can´t buy dollars with black money, but nowhere in the world can do that.
A lot of people here go to US to Europe, and they can´t buy things there with Pesos, Guess wich coin they use?
The inflations is 20 % and the salary income is up 25% How many countrys can say that?
Men, stop read crap media.
Cheers

This isn't true. You can ask for permission (yeah, permission) to buy dollars, but everybody except political friends of the administration are denied (in fact, they removed the option of saying your purchasing them to save on the online form). It's true, if you travel you can be authorized to buy dollars in an amount equal to a stipend of $70 per day of your trip (i.e. if you go to the US for 10 days, you are authorized to buy US$700, no more). Try traveling to the US or europe on $70 per day. Ha! How do people do it? Brings us to the next point...

While overseas you can use your credit card (plus a 20% surcharge that goes against your taxes next year--not adjusted for inflation; also if you try to claim the credit, don't be surprised if you get audited in retaliation), but we'll see if this lasts past these elections next week. At the very least a hard yearly cap like in Venezuela is coming.

That 20%/25% inflation/salary figure is incorrect. It might have been true at some point, but inflation right now is easily over 25%, and that's all day everyday. Salary adjustments are once or twice per year.

Dude, i understand what you say but my poor english cant respond you.
In the middle of high/severe inflation, with the government lying about the numbers, it is very difficult to know where you are on the slippery slope.
14398  Other / Politics & Society / Re: An essay on the war on drugs on: October 24, 2013, 08:00:32 PM
The only reason economic drawbacks exist is because people have turned profiting off the livelihood of others into special interest.  They should have chosen jobs that didn't deteriorate the lives of others if they want to keep job stability.  They should pick something that contributes positively to society and the war on drugs does nothing to achieve that.

Same goes for the whole government.  Their time will come as humanity evolves to realize their presence has a negative impact on society.

Lol, I can't believe I haven't seen cheech n chong yet.

14399  Other / Politics & Society / Re: An essay on the war on drugs on: October 24, 2013, 03:04:22 PM
.....These policies soon originated what is now known as the War on Drugs.
Drug prohibition may seem like a logical solution to a country with drug problems, however prohibition does not diminish the demand or supply of drugs effectively,  it creates a multi-billion dollar black market.  Currently, Mexican cartels are supplying seventy percent....

If we quit the War on Drugs....

....you think all those terminated DEA agents might get jobs in hemp coffeeshops?

I mean, like, Sargent Stadanko, he need a job...

You seem to get my point though Tongue much of the so called 'mainstream' ideologies and beliefs our societies have are motivated by a few people wanting a monopoly to make easy money, you dig through many mainstream groups you'll find it out easily, they don't even really try to hide it.

Yeah....so when we confront the economic reality behind my comment...

...There's a heavy, and fairly successful lobbying and propaganda campaign in the US to convince people that ordering prescription drugs from outside the US is "scary and risky".  Maybe just one in ten people do it.  Maybe fewer than that.

It's clear that a great savings in US health care cost could be achieved by educating people on ways to do their health care cheaper and better.

But nobody has been seriously performing that function.
