14781  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can MtGox ever fail - does it not still have more BTC for sale than any other?? on: February 14, 2014, 01:45:35 PM
Never heard anybody say good things about gox.

They served me well but that was last year.. the only glitch was dumping a transaction to JPY rather than keeping it as GBP.

I wonder they might just seize up and obviously then there is a risk for anyone holding anything there. I don't know, if MtGox is legally bond to return 100% or only as much as they can - fraction to all, in the way that Governments would/will do to fiat ye olde bank savers.

It would be interesting to see what happens in that situation. I guess there'd just be a lot of lawsuits.
14782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some greedy inviduals might have just blown our chance for MAINSTREAM adoption. on: February 14, 2014, 01:43:02 PM
the OP thinks that the price dropping from over $1000 to the prices it sits at now is a bad thing?

if gold went from $1310 an oz to lets say $600, you really think everyone would be running away from gold, or towards it?

the same applies to bitcoin.

Nice analogy.

Yep, looks like it's reached a stage where it's cheap enough again... the buys are flowing in quite nicely now, staying above 600... even with mountainofcocks trading at nearly half Smiley

Happens all the time. Price falls and the people who believe in Bitcoin / want to get in buy more and the price gradually rises. Rinse and repeat.
14783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Enjoy? on: February 14, 2014, 01:14:24 PM
According to the last 10 news posts at blockchain.info, there is a lot more to it than a penny in someones mailbox.. it seems to be a little more complicated than that

You are saying that you believe that send you a satoshi is the same thing as the ongoing DDOS attack?  There is a real attack going on which has absolutely nothing with this thread.

You are right to some extent but still .. if you receive 1000 pennies, instead of 1, your mailbox is getting problems; if you run a business then such an extremely clogged mailbox could cause serious damage even if you manage to clean them out after awhile.

If such spamming is used in a serious and malicious way, it would not really be good for BTC would it? What consumer would want to use a wallet with hundreds of such transactions in it?

Spam mail does not cause damage to my email software but clogs it up nevertheless.

I am afraid that this is the beginning of something awful. We witness the birth of crypto spamming.  Embarrassed

That started a long time ago , one of the reasons the minimal transaction fee was imposed.

But will blockchain.info show the public note while it's still unconfirmed?  If it does, then this is a very successful spamming technique for advertising penis growth pills.

If someone is using a vanity address they should always have to pay the transaction fee.   That would stop the spam!

It wouldn't. They'd just use a normal one.

Didn't want any valentines cards anyway  Cheesy.

That guy is after a custom sig, but don't know if it's a legit offer. Have you sold many signatures?

Thank you very much, I'd appreciate it if you can delete the code Smiley

I've deleted my original replies.

Done, but now you need to get bitgeek to do the same  Cheesy
14787  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The day Bitcoin is "regulated" is the day we lose our freedom on: February 14, 2014, 12:58:54 PM
bitcoin itself wont be regulated.

USA only has power over the us dollar. so the only thing bitcoin related that would be regulated is the exchanged that change fiat into coin. this means the exchanges that only spaw coin for coin EG altcoin and no fiat involvement. wont need these bitlicences.

the important thing to know is that USA can only regulate FIAT. other currencies are not in their juristiction

They'll just tax it when we spend it or exchange it for cash.
14788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: temporarily invest in 2nd gen currency? on: February 14, 2014, 12:51:20 PM
I don't want to sell my BTC for fiat cause i'm pretty sure, in some weeks we're back at 1k$.
But a little bit of uncertainty is in my mind, so what do you guys think about changing some BTC into NXT as long as the price is so low? Today the first client-software was published and others will follow in short time. I watch this nxt-network since november, the community and dev-team is gorgeous and the price is stable since weeks.

The dev-team is gorgeous?  Cheesy You can always invest in some alts, but they're just as risky as BTC really. I'd just stick largely with Bitcoin though.
14789  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can MtGox ever fail - does it not still have more BTC for sale than any other?? on: February 14, 2014, 12:47:27 PM
I think that mtgox is dead, even if it solves all the problems (which is nearly impossible) noone will touch that piece of crap for sure.

Well that's what I've been thinking for ages but it's still going. I don't even understand how it's even managing to stay afloat. Never heard anybody say good things about gox.
14790  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The day Bitcoin is "regulated" is the day we lose our freedom on: February 14, 2014, 12:45:17 PM
The governments aren't just going to sit back and let us use Bitcoin freely. They'll want their cut. Regulation is natural process really.
14791  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road 2.0 hacked through malleability, ~4000 BTC STOLEN on: February 14, 2014, 12:44:23 PM
I quit reading about five lines into this guy's letter. Does not come across as genuine to me. That's all I know about this issue.
Indeed, certainly didn't read like he was "sweating" whilst typing it up.

Sweating with excitement about all the free coins he's just got, or maybe out of fear if he gets caught  Cheesy. He seems like a hypocrite too, he slammed DPR for allegedly ordering hits now he essentially says do what you want to the people if you find them.
14792  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Help! - Do i Buy Buy Buy? on: February 14, 2014, 12:41:06 PM
According to Preev they're £454. http://preev.com/btc/gbp/source:localbitcoins so if you can get them for £237 then that's a very good deal. If you believe in Bitcoin then should buy them at this low.
14793  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OUCH! More Bad Bitcoin News... on: February 14, 2014, 12:20:32 PM
Any chance the US would ever make it illegal?

There's always a chance, but I don't see on what grounds they could make it illegal. Banning it wouldn't make it worth any less any way. It'll still hold value to others and people will still use it.
14794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is doomed to fail, and there's nothing you can do about it. on: February 14, 2014, 12:17:55 PM
Where are the developers standing up for this and speaking up for this, maybe  missed there comments in the 16 damm pages of BAD ATTENTION, but come on DEVs stand up for your coin... I am sure you were prepared for some of this... SPeak up ? or are you just as scared as the OP?

I think the devs have got better things to do that answer threads on here all day.
14795  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is falling(What's your strategy?) on: February 14, 2014, 12:16:34 PM
If you believe in Bitcoin then use this opportunity to buy more. Or just hodl the coins you've got. Bitcoin always bounces back.
14796  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Overstock getting close $1million sales in bitcoin on: February 14, 2014, 12:14:36 PM
now start accepting Litecoin overstock!

No way. Litecoin is a worthless altcoin.

It's not worthless, but it really does need some merchant adoption to grow.
14797  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will The Government Ever Find a way to Regulate Bitcoin? on: February 14, 2014, 12:13:44 PM
One of possible ways to regulate bitcoin's price in a bad way is simply close down major exchanges. Think if they manage to close gox, bitstamp, btc-e, coinbase and localbitcoins.
This will affect price seriously. Just my IMHO.

They'll never be able to close them all, so it'll be futile anyway.
14798  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I start earning Bitcoin ? on: February 14, 2014, 12:08:46 PM
Fiver just announced they're paying out in Bitcoins now. See if you can sell yourself over there.
Fiverr is already full with people selling every single thing they can sell that too in 5$..!

Do they actually pay out in Bitcoin's now, or can you just pay the site in BTC? Hopefully it works both ways.
14799  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are e-mail users imbeciles? on: February 14, 2014, 12:04:31 PM
Well if you dont trade drugs guns or child pornography i guess you are good to go Smiley

It's not just about the if you're doing nothing wrong then you've got nothing to hide excuse, it's about privacy. Do you want someone to know all your business?
