1481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do I really need a Bitcoin wallet? on: July 19, 2013, 09:35:02 PM
If you don't want to spend the coins then you can keep a secret key as described above.  But if you want to spend them and want a very secure way to store them then check out my guide:

1483  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: July 19, 2013, 06:16:40 PM
I don't get it, is it $6 for the pcb or schematic file? Also, whats the hashing rate on it? I'm assuming is close to 5GH/s?

Thank bkkcoins!

It should be around 5GH/s.  But that's just the bare PCB -- you have to buy all the parts and a stencil too.  (The stencil is more than the pcb).

Check the CPU, RAM, and network usage on the Pi -- remember that it's got less power than your phone.
1485  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [Bounty 0.2BTC] fix my minepeon time and date thats on wifi on: July 19, 2013, 06:02:21 PM
It seems like openntp is trying to use your wired connection instead of wireless.  You could try to make it load after your wireless networking loads by changing its module number or init.d priority, whichever your dist uses.  But I would first try removing openntp and using ntp to see if that is easier.

Ok everyone. Well thanks for your help.

I should have spent a bit of time learning about these factors before I jumped strait in. I had no idea  that Bitcoins couldnt be reversed or traced - I read an article that claimed that each coin was basically a unique code and was easily identifiable- I presumed it would be easy to get a refund due to this fact. Obviously I misunderstood the article or it was a load of horsesh1t.

They are identifiable, in the same way that cash is identifiable, as every dollar bill has a serial number on it.  And it helps you about the same amount.

Always use escrow.
1489  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: just bought bitcoins on the market at 77.44 USD on: July 19, 2013, 03:04:44 AM
It's either a mistake or a good move.
1490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen if..? on: July 19, 2013, 03:01:02 AM
You could always just use testnet.
1491  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Liquid Synergy Designs Inc. -ASIC mining hardware on: July 19, 2013, 02:58:06 AM

I apologize. I didn't know steamboat was selling the chips as well.  As indicated in the OP:
{Please note this is for assembly only. Chips must be purchased and supplied in order to use this service

Currently accepted chip suppliers:
Zefir}

I would rather buy from a 1 stop shop.
Thanks

Right above that in big letters it says:  Chips Available:  4600 and below that it says:  Summary of services available and Chips is the first item.

1494  Economy / Economics / Re: What if a government just buys up all the bitcoins on: July 18, 2013, 04:53:53 AM
What if a government just buys up all our cars?  We'd have no way to get to work.
Cheesy yeah, but cars increase government revenues both in all the permits/regulations and the gas tax. It'd be revenue-stupid for governments to force eco-friendly means of transport. OTOH, Bitcoin threatens to decrease tax revenues by making taxes easier to evade (similar to cash transactions, which are heavily discouraged in most countries, either by criminalizing large cash transactions, forbidding large withdrawals, or even making it semi-criminal to have substantial amounts of cash on-hand).

Maybe they'll buy up all our cash then, and force us to use credit cards.

1496  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Confused where Bitcoins will go with Jalapeno and BFL Easyminer on: July 18, 2013, 04:42:12 AM
The coins you're mining are going into someone else's account.  You need to set it up for your account.  You should probably just switch to cgminer for everything.
1497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any Centos experts out there that can make this work? on: July 17, 2013, 06:16:50 PM
It's tough without the actual error, but from what you wrote I guess the libraries aren't available for that distribution.  So just download and compile them.
1498  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: July 17, 2013, 04:37:59 AM
It doesn't make sense that China is blocking them from talking to other nodes -- couldn't they just have an offshore node and ssh tunnel to it?
1499  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Liquid Synergy Designs Inc. -ASIC mining hardware on: July 17, 2013, 04:31:24 AM
I'm pretty sure that when the board is single the fan mounts on top of the board.  But when you've got multiples the boards mount on top of each other and the fan goes on the side.
1500  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: July 17, 2013, 04:29:18 AM
If there's room on the board you probably don't need a cable -- just a male header will probably work if your USB cable is long enough.
