1001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should miners collude to steal funds from wallet confiscated by US government? on: October 09, 2013, 05:58:54 PM
ok, so just a question.

Lets say someone guessed the private key of the Silkroad BTC stash and cleaned it out. Is it theft?

How can that theft be proven in law today?

If someone were able to randomly guess/combine enough bits to create a h264 of the next blockbuster movie without access to the original film, is that copyright infringement?

If you're able to guess the combination to my safe and you take all my money is that theft?

What if you guess the password to my bank account?

If you guess my credit card number?

Is that the "portable" one?  I never understood that, it was pretty much the same size as the II+ and IIe.  A little smaller I guess

Nice job.  Hopefully Steamboat can sell assembly to others who have just chips, so that we can get an assembly refund.

"In other news, a group of hackers, against all mathematical odds, stole over $1 billion worth of the online digital currency "Bitcoin" from the US government, proving once and for all that the only way your money is safe is in a federal bank."

They were all later arrested and are now sitting in Guantanamo Bay.

Bitcoin uses a different curve:  secp256k1.

Well they cashed the check:

You're seriously advocating stealing millions of dollars from the FBI?  You realize you don't live inside a movie, right?

Taiwan is an independent country, not under the control of China.  China makes the world pretend that Taiwan is part of China, but we want Taiwan as an ally and a customer, so we sell them a lot of arms and China knows not to mess with them.

Don't forget NOAA, EPA, and NSF.  All the discretionary funding is some of the most important money we spend.  And it's the most vulnerable.  Who knows why?  Oh I know it's because people like you don't think it affects you if our science research comes to a screeching halt.
1010  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 8 Kw/Hr in one room? Possible? on: October 08, 2013, 04:09:57 AM
I bought 12 HashFast Babyjets, that use 350 Watts each. (4.2Kw/hr total)

Do you need 4.2 kW or 8 kW like it says in the title?

4.2 kW is easy, that's less than an electric oven or an air conditioner.  You just need to get an electrician to run 240V @ 40 A.  You can do 50A if you want 8 kW.

If you have anything else electric (dryer, oven, AC) you'll probably need 200A service.

If your local McDonalds closed the women's bathroom...would you say that McDonalds is shut down?

Less than 15% of the federal government is shut down.

Worst shutdown ever.

If you worked at McDonalds and got furloughed you'd say they got shutdown.  Are you saying that just because you're not affected you don't care at all?  That 15% is still a huge amount of people that are affected.

Okay then i just need to find someone thats selling blades in EU

I'll sell you a virtual blade.  If you send me the BTC that a blade costs I'll send you what that hash rate would generate.  You can save on shipping.

They didn't do it to save money.  Slightly less than 50% of the country doesn't want poor people to have health care, so they shut the government down to try and stop it.  Surprisingly, there are a lot of poor people in that group.  I'll never understand it.

Buy bitcoins and use ~ 0.12 BTC to buy a block eruptor, just to get the experience.  Hold the rest.
1017  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: RAM-Reduction & Backup Center Testing (version 0.89.99.5) on: October 07, 2013, 04:32:45 PM
If I read that right you tried to sweep a balance without having access to the blockchain.  You can't do that because it doesn't know anything about your transactions.

Edit:  It would be cool to have access to a blockchain.info type website where you could query unspent transactions, for this kind of emergency mode.

I think 1500 years is actually too optimistic.

Now only 1500 years to go.
