That is CLEARLY just a not-so-cleverly disguised front muzzle part of a blunderbuss. Stop spreading 3D printable gun components!
Another curious thing about three d printed stuff, it's like you show it to someone, if they like it you just let them keep it.  The stuff doesn't seem to have value like stuff you bought.  Because you just set another one to print before going to bed at night. Like the blunderbu---oops, ah...yeah...you know...the Anti-Gore Showerhead, it will run a couple of hours, but does not need to be watched or checked up on.

So how do you assign 'value' to something, if when you wake up you have another one?
15002  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Police State? on: May 15, 2013, 06:52:49 PM

Lately, I have to admit to noticing a peculiar thing.

It seems there are a lot of medium height, young, bald cops with dark sunglasses.

They are all over the country.  In every police department.  Hired just a couple years ago.

Where did they come from?

They all look very similar.

There are some very similar and disturbing behavior from these guys.

LOL....Stepford Cops?

I'd agree that all the inclinations from the left and liberal progressives would be to act indignant for a while, then let it be forgot, while if it were a Republican or conservative politician or public figure who had done something wrong, then for the very slightest or alleged wrong, the exact reverse would be done.
Quote

I don't have much love for democrats or republicans. I'm a libertarian AnCap. Your claim that if it were a republican or conservative politician has been thoroughly disproven during the Bush years. How many people went to jail for torture? For illegal phone wiretapping? I would actually claim the opposite, that Democrats get scrutinized WAY more than Republicans, for the simple fact that, while left-leaning news organizations at least attempt to show themselves as balanced, Republicans have practically all of radio and a well established news organization that blatantly and proudly parades itself as a part of the Republican party. Just based on the number of people screaming at each other in public, the number screaming at Democrats is higher. And neither party shies away from doing illegal things to undermine their opponents, or from trying to take away personal liberties, and neither party is interested in jailing their own.

Of course continuing a barrage of insinuation that the tea party members were lower than dirt, stupid and ignorant and so forth would assist in this methodology.

There is only one group of people I really dislike, and that's conservatives. I mean that by the actual definition of the word, not as a political label. Religious nutcases, communists, status-quo democrats, fundamentalists, social-issues Republicans, and yes, Tea Party. Fuck all those people. I know there's that "first they came for..." , and freedom of speech thing though, but it's hard to defend the freedom of those assholes, when their purpose is to deny everyone else freedom.

Ok with me, as I fall into the 'fiscal conservative' category and don't have a lot of interest in most social issues.  But the use of the term 'conservative' as used today with respect to the IRS targeting of groups is certainly not aligned with your personal definition.

Another handy dandy 3d printable item.  In the script, these were shipped to millions.  Think of the cost savings if everyone just printed them in their garage!  All the extra beer money!

Specifically addressing the "human nature" argument: see here.  .....in some cases around the world, wouldn't even stop a woman from being raped in public.
Now why is it that I suspect that would be largely the case in cultures and nations with strict gun control and no concealed carry?

With an occasional exception, of course.

Yeah, like what the nature of a human intestine is.  Cheesy
And to think they figured human nature being what it was, they could get away with rape no problem.  Some days just don't turn out right.

If valid criminal charges exist, it'd be a very easy matter for a corrupt administration to pick out some low and middle level personnel as scapegoats.  Problem is some might start singing like canaries.

Too much hassle and paperwork. Easier to just "investigate" it until people forget. Last time I remember someone going to jail, it was Scooter Libby, and that guy did some really bad stuff. No way anyone will be sent to jail for this. No way this problem will be fixed and never happen again, either.
I'd agree that all the inclinations from the left and liberal progressives would be to act indignant for a while, then let it be forgot, while if it were a Republican or conservative politician or public figure who had done something wrong, then for the very slightest or alleged wrong, the exact reverse would be done.

Of course continuing a barrage of insinuation that the tea party members were lower than dirt, stupid and ignorant and so forth would assist in this methodology.  The details and operational methods can be found at mediamatters.com, and the talking points are also easy to find.  Feel free to ask if you need help in finding any of these.

I'm afraid Jon Stewart was right about this sort of thing, been glancing over this situation and it's a classic case of American partisan bickering, it's not really the level of persecution that Libertarians faced when they tried voting in the GOP but it's the two mainstream parties taking pot shots at each other. In this case it's simply over taxes involved in the political parties, I don't think that a lot of the groups cited really represent the kind of beliefs that we all stand for because the tea party etc. got hijacked by neo-conservatives a lot just like the Republican party did years ago.
Except that it's NOT the two parties taking pot shots at each other.

There is a wide array of Democrats that have been speaking out.

Not the gun, the printing technology. It will be almost as hard to suppress as filesharing.
My little 3d printer hasn't done any firearms yet, but it certainly has made some interesting little things.  I like to make stuff that has several parts in a single pass.  Something about that is fundamentally interesting, as opposed to making parts and putting them together.

here's one design I've been mulling over, blue as a color simply will not do, though:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:47541

By printing it yourself, you could defeat the low flow Al Gore Save the World Miserable Low Flow Showerhead (yes, he was responsible for these atrocities along with the nasty Internet).  You, too could have a showerhead that shot water like a firehose.

This is the future that awaits those who make their own cool stuff, instead of buying Gubbermint Approved Showerheads From Hell.

Only one small example of the revolution that can be created by makers.  Or you could Embrace the Misery of the Collective of Low Flow Dribbling Showerheads and Save the World With Al.

15010  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Want to pay NO income tax? Cut welfare. on: May 15, 2013, 03:15:29 AM
Somewhat related: Social Security.

The SS tax has been increased by 2% to 6.2%.  If we assume the same rate of payout is still available in 2053 (my year of retirement at age 66) and my monthly income does not change, I would generate about $6,500.00 in a monthly paycheck from the government. (source: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OACT/quickcalc/)

If, instead, that 6.2% was invested in the private sector (stock market), which has, historically, generated 10% investment return per year, then I would have accumulated $1.3M of retirement wealth.  If I withdrew the investment income (10% annually) from that accumulated wealth, or almost $11,000/month.

Now, this doesn't have much of a direct tie-in with welfare, but it still jerks my chain that we're forced to participate in this system instead of being able to use that money towards something more.... profitable.

And the meme you quote is unfortunately, wrong.  It's not wrong in comparison with quoted returns from social security, it is better than that.

Here's a guy that's done some simple work looking at after-inflation values of stocks and returns on them.  He gets about 3%.

What is at issue is whether IRS personnel face jail time.

Got it now?

Jail.

Lol, yeah, we both know that's not happening  Tongue

No, I don't know that.  If valid criminal charges exist, it'd be a very easy matter for a corrupt administration to pick out some low and middle level personnel as scapegoats.  Problem is some might start singing like canaries.

And the IRS - those are the goons that people would entrust with their medical datasets.

Wait....now who are the fascists?

15012  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS APOLOGIZES FOR TARGETING CONSERVATIVE GROUPS on: May 15, 2013, 02:12:26 AM
Got some more info on this today. It's apparently for their 501c (?) SuperPac status. Basically those groups we've all been hearing about that allow unlimited anonymous political donations, using a tax group organization that was set up as "service the social welfare." They get away with it by claiming that their "concern" ads that attack opposing politicians are just to "increase awareness of an issue that may adversely affect general welfare." It's basically bullshit that needs to stop, and need to stop on both sides. Yes, it's unfair that it was done more to the right-wing nuts than to left-wing nuts. And yeah, I'm kinda conflicted about it, since with Bitcoin you'd be able to do unlimited political donations and advertising, anyway.

Though I do have some schadenfreude about a fascist theocratic party getting shafted.

Well, you have it about half right.  To get it completely right, take off the ideological filters for a second.  You don't need to discuss the character of the groups that were targeted.

Slander them some other time and place.  No, nobody cares if you think it was fair or unfair.

What is at issue is whether IRS personnel face jail time.

Got it now?

Jail.

Conversely, there's a term for those who might NOT think the IRS behavior was problematic.

Fascist.

LOL....but I use the term properly.

Isn't the point of a gun to deter crime, letting people know not to screw with you, with shooting them being the last resort? ....
No!

Guns are horrible and scary!  They make ordinary people into criminals!  They make big bangy noises and those big rifles are painted black!  They senselessly kill people.  The really scary ones they have sort of pistol grip thingies and stuff that folds back and things that you put in that have bullets!  Then they can shoot the bullets at people!  It's making me cry just thinking about it and I'm scared!  So I'm going to hide in the closet.  Please tell me when it's safe to come out?

Yes, for idiot responders.

Mexicans are a defined nationality, and they are not a "race".

In the USA, "hispanic" is an ethnic group, defined by a group of surnames.

They'd have to prove that the files themselves are evidence of harm caused. CP is photographic proof of abuse, these are just cad designs.

One interesting thing that's not been mentioned about the 3d gun revolution.  Historically, legal or illegal, guns have been hoarded.  Old men have buried them in the yards in case their kids might need to dig them up decades hence.  And totalitarian societies, prior to their worse abuses of human rights, strove to take all the guns away.

But how does that change if ten million guns could appear from ten million homes overnight?

Looks like a massive empowerment of the individual versus the state.  Granted, one might still want weapons around if one feared the late night break in, the crazy gang going down the street shooting and raping, and so forth.  But versus the state, a 3d printer in every home would exactly equal guns in every home.

15018  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Schumer: It’s time to go after the 3-D printable guns on: May 14, 2013, 11:47:54 AM
....if it keeps advancing at its current rate, it's entirely possible that a 3d printer could become a household item and revolutionize how we buy products.

who knows what the future will hold, but its a technology with so much potential. i'd hate to have its advancement stopped by something as silly as big brother protection.
more likely attempts to ban will simply increase exposure and awareness of the printers, and everyone will have to buy one.  Just like the recent explosion of sales in assault rifles when the pols started screaming about banning them.

I have ny sympathy for religious nutcases, even if they call themselves Tea Party.

Though I'm wondering, why are getting tax exempt? Can we get tax exempt status too please?

Also, it would probably be in Democrats' best interests to help the Tea Party as much as possible. They divide republican voters quite well, allowing Democrats to win more seats. Hell, some Democratic politicians actually admitted to funding local Tea Party candidates, just because they are so loony that beating them in elections is easier. So I doubt this is an order that came from above.
Ah...

You might want to dig into it a bit further.  This is roughly equivalent to say, Bush having the founders of MoveOn.org, Thinkprogress, and TPM audited by the IRS, and forcing them to disclose their donor lists, right before an election.

Wait....you wouldn't have stood for that from Bush?  No kidding?

http://c0391070.cdn2.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/pdf/irs-questions-aclj-tea-party-clients.pdf

No, I'm upset about them having tax exempt status. I want one too  Cry

Why?  Why support in any sense political operatives making it virtually impossible for their opponents to get tax exempt status for their organizations?

If I understand correctly many of these groups are STILL WAITING for their applications to be approved or rejected.

Alan P. Dye, a nonprofit attorney with the Washington, D.C. firm of Webster, Chamberlain & Bean, told MailOnline that he represents six tea party groups that have been waiting for periods of up to 30 months for the IRS to issue rulings.
