I refuse your definition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_%28finance%29 the practice of selling securities or other financial instruments, with the intention of subsequently repurchasing them ("covering") at a lower price. In the event of an interim price decline, the short seller will profit, since the cost of repurchase will be less than the proceeds received upon the initial (short) sale. Last try, then I give up... The wikipedia page also says : " The potential loss on a short sale is theoretically unlimited in the event of an unlimited rise in the price of the instrument, however in practice the short seller will be required to post margin or collateral to cover losses, and any inability to do so on a timely basis would cause its broker or counterparty to liquidate the position." Now: if you just sold stuff that you already own, there wouldn't be theoretically unlimited losses (it says "losses", not "absence of profit"). Moreover: if you just sold stuff that you already own: why would you have to give a broker collateral? And how could he "liquidate your position"? Would he randomly decide at some point to buy shares or bitcoins that you sold before, just for the fun of it? Do you see how nonsensical all of this sounds without the assumption that you are selling something that you didn't own in the first place? yup you got me there

lol
adam? Please define the term "selling".
to sell.

I feel an explotion to the up side is imminent. / / / /\/\/\/ <- we are here / /
so you bought back in? Seems like a smart move, I would too if only my funds arrived.... No, but he did have chili yesterday.
lol No. I refuse to cover a short at a loss I will continue to short more as we go up. if that means dipping into paper wallets, and totally selling out at a good profit, then so be it, i could use the money.

I keep hearing people talk about shorting bitcoin, but how are you doing it without bitcoinica or similar leveraged trading platform? Or are you just shorting through private btc loans? Or is the term "shorting" just being misused on this forum?
The "shorting" term is frequently misused on this forum, used instead of plain old "selling". yeah, its annoying. I thought we went over this, shorting doesn't need to be leveraged to be considered shorting.

Hi. I know someone should contact you regarding using Bitpay payment solution to process your transactions. I think you should know that Bitpay now being in center of growing scandal of $25M scam with their friends BF Labs Inc and futher SEC investigation. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=133487.40Best regards, Dear XXX, Thank you for the suggestion! At this moment however we are not yet considering Bitcoin as a donation method. We think it could be a great way to donate, but also know that a correct and safe implementation would take some time. Also before considering this, we would need to learn some more about the possible (even minor) disadvantages and investigate what the negative effects of these could be. But we will gladly keep it in mind and we will look into it in the future to see if there are any possibilities. Thanks again for your suggestion! Best regards, Team Mars One www.mars-one.comdid i miss it? is this is official word?

I keep reading all this stuff about the dollar, and I feel like I should find some people saying some kind of opposition. Does anyone NOT think the dollar will collapse? Why? This all seems like a far off doomsday scenario even though I understand that this is happening now. Even though I understand, I can't believe it. Why aren't more people worried? I am prepping with what little I have... Not like hedging your bets ever hurt anyone.
i go over this alot in my newsletter. it's called the deflationary theory. deflation is unacceptable! governments will fight deflation with inflation, no matter what.
