15101  Economy / Speculation / Re: The inevitable is upon us... on: August 04, 2015, 11:24:31 AM
Improbable, I'd say. The last ATH was purely manipulated by the Willy bot, so I think the price rise to $10k naturally is nearly impossible, unless people will begin to realize that bitcoin is the way to go.
15102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which celebrity do you think will be the best advocator for Bitcoin? on: August 03, 2015, 09:39:56 AM
I would prefer someone with a sound financial background and/or successful business career.

a. Elon Musk <History of knowledge of payment systems>
b. Bill Gates <Most successful entrepreneur and a vision to improve the world>
c. Sir Richard Branson <Risk taker and alternative thinker>

We need people with vision, and a true interest in making a difference where it counts the most.

Totally agree on this one. We need people who have the influence and the knowledge, not just only influence per se. Without knowledge to back up your advocacy, how would you be sure that people will follow you all throughout the way? Celebrities wouldn't just take the cut alone with their fame, they still need their brain to promote a great advocacy.
15103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which celebrity do you think will be the best advocator for Bitcoin? on: August 03, 2015, 09:22:04 AM
Well fame without a little bit of knowledge would not matter for long. If the celebrity has the brains to introduce bitcoin and to defend its concepts, then I'd say he/she would make a successful advocate of bitcoin. Say, RDJ? He seems to be a geek for me. Understanding bitcoin will not be a problem for him, I think.
15104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Facebook group to estimate number of Bitcoin users on: August 03, 2015, 07:17:43 AM
I don't know if this is allowed here, if not I'm sorry for it, just delete the thread.

Anyway, as I'm really curious on how many Bitcoin users are out there and it seems there's no reliable way to estimate it at the moment, I thought this could be a good try.
Quick, easy and inexpensive.
Just ask for subscription, spread the word, and let's see how many will join.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1153361628014629/

Also, remember: the more we are, the more reputation Bitcoin gains... so it's in our interest to manage to make this estimate.

Just sent a join request. Btw, is it only made on the 31st of July? Only 51 members at the time of this writing. Also, not so much discussion happening yet.

Ye, I opened it couple days ago, and I only have 100+ friends and added the more open minded of them Cheesy
And only 2/3 of them interested in Bitcoin so of these 50 only these 2/3 remain as real Bitcoin users, but as it's at the beginning I think it's excused I'll try to gain as much attention as possible Cheesy

Well that's good, but I think linking the social media accounts of bitcoin users are not that inviting because you know, bitcoin users want anonymity and all that stuff--linking their social media accounts is actually against that concept. Btw, thanks for accepting my join request. Hope this goes smoothly as possible. Smiley
15105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Microsoft's Bing Launches Bitcoin Rewards Sweepstakes on: August 03, 2015, 07:13:46 AM
Well, Windows 10 integrates Bing as its default search engine in Edge. Tongue Well no one is forcing anyone to use Bing. We know it's awful, but hey, at least they notice bitcoin and try to lure some users to use their search engine because of the rewards! But no, still not using Bing for that reason.

Not today.

15107  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: how much can you make weekly? on: July 28, 2015, 07:12:38 PM

Yes, this is true. During 2010 to late 2011, faucet operators used to give out 10-50 btc per person (sometimes even 100 if you are lucky enough.) I managed to get through the 1-2 btc per captcha on the 2012 but back then I don't really know what I'm doing (and I didn't even qualify for a payout, which is 15btc) so I just forget about bitcoins. Man, who would've thought that those things that I ignored would actually be worth a thousand bucks at one point in time?
Okay , now I wanna die  Cry , those are huge payout if only someone could have predicted the future , men , at least good for you at least you got til 1-2 btc per captcha then

Uh, no, I got 1-2 btc but I never qualified for the 15 btc required payout. From that time, I forgot about bitcoins, and the next thing I heard about it was the 2013 all time high. There are regrets, but that's all part of our lives after all.
15108  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Loaning - Is it worth it? on: July 28, 2015, 07:10:35 PM
Hi,
So something I've been thinking about is lending Bitcoin. For me to conduct trades over Bitcoin Talk, I usually ask the other party pays first (which usually means the trades fall through).
  • Is it actually profitable?
  • Will I get scammed to death?
Cheers.

First bullet: Yes, if you executed it perfectly and flawlessly. You can ask for 10% as the minimum interest rate for any loan and depending on how long will the loan term be.
Second bullet: Also yes, if you don't know how to sales talk the borrower. You must impose your own rules, and your rules should matter, not the borrower's. Always ask for a valid collateral when giving a loan. In that way in case the borrower defaults, you can take back what's lost in you and you can go on without accepting any losses.
15109  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Does BTCJam recover your loses in any way? on: July 28, 2015, 07:06:38 PM
Quote
What is Arbitration?

If a borrower does not make payments as required by the terms of the loan, a Notice of Default will be sent to the borrower. Simultaneously, the investors will receive a letter to encourage finding a solution. If the Default remains uncured for 90 calendar days, the entire loan will be sent to our arbitration partner, net-ARB.com. Net-ARB is an independent firm, having no ties to BTCjam.com or any of its officers.

Our arbitration partner, net-ARB, will review the loan terms, certify default and issue an Award in favor of the investor(s) for the full amount still owed. The Arbitration Award is binding and cannot be appealed. This Award may be used to procure a judgment against the borrower in a court of law. (Net-ARB will provide the investor(s) with all other information necessary to pursue a judgment).

http://help.btcjam.com/customer/portal/articles/1987707-arbitration

Seems like it's more of a hassle to the lender if ever the borrower defaults his/her loan. Not a good approach to such cases imo, if the borrower is from another country, you can't do anything about it, literally.

Even more if it's for a small amount...

Does anyone knows the default percentage on BTCJam?

Return is up to 10% for about 5 out of 10 loans, the rest was 5, 6 and down to 1.65%. The first ~20 loans I saw are for a year or a bit shorter, but you can find things for 30 days as well.

@Arbitration: So this gives you help to legally pursue a party not willing to pay? I imagine scammers simply use fake details, it isn't that hard.

Suggestion: Try autoinvest, last time I looked it spreads out your investment among a lot of loans, so your chances of getting ripped of are (assuming 51% of lenders is legit) smaller.

Last time I checked, btcJam is strict on the details of the borrowers there, so I think faking details would be hard unless you are good at it. On the part of arbitration, even if you have the power to legally pursue any party who defaults a loan, if it's a small sum and the defaulter is from another country, it will basically be useless.
15110  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt Gox hackers selling off their $650 million - is that keeping price down? on: July 28, 2015, 07:04:46 PM
I suspect this will remain a fave boogeyman for a long time to come unless/ until we actually find out what's what because let's face it, we're running low on them now and people love a good panic. I will let it give me sleepless nights when there are some facts on the table.

The thieves seemed to run away with it flawlessly without actually leaving a solid trace. Up until now, there have been no convicted of the case, which is quite saddening for the people who lost lots of money in Gox. Until facts are laid within our eyes, the thieves will remain in anonymous to us.
15111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum is the future of crypto, bitcoin is not. on: July 28, 2015, 07:01:20 PM
ETH will allow $2T of underground economy to become more structured (and possibly less underground) through DAOs.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/04/23/americas-2-trillion-shadow-economy-is-the-recessions-big-winner/

If it captures 1% of that $2T, it is equivalent to $20B, which would put ETH somewhere around $150. Those who sell for $2 will shit bricks, eat sand and may even commit suicide in the years to come. If it captures 10% of that ETH will be $1500. I know it sounds crazy, but so did the Internet in 1995.

Once it's launched their main focus will be on scalability, which I think is the real reason crypto is not ready for mainstream. Once they can handle 100K TPS (and I'm sure they will), it's game over.

Do you mean that the price alone determines whether a thing would be future? I don't think so. There have been so many fuss about this ethereum thing, though I wouldn't deny the fact that it is interesting, but most of the news about it seems to be overrated and exaggerated.
15112  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What's the highest you can lend? on: July 28, 2015, 06:58:32 PM
Half of my stash, if collateral seems to be a perfect match for the amount I have.
15113  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitcoin cloud mining on: July 28, 2015, 06:53:00 PM
There are only two cloud mining sites I could think of that are legitimate and operational for long, namely Bit-X and Hashnest. I do not know about other cloud mining sites that are popping out everyday: most of them are scams. Also, don't bother joining a cloud mining site. There wouldn't be profits to be made unless those shares could actually be traded on their site. You are more likely to earn trading those shares than you are to wait for those mining shares to earn.
15114  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you expect from the halving in 2016? on: July 28, 2015, 06:43:19 PM
Double prices at least after the pump stabilization, if we are luck.

If not, then see what happened to Doge to see what may happen with BTC

Doge was manipulated from the start of the price rise. I don't think it is correct to relate it to what may happen in btc. Bitcoin markets are full of traders and shorters and not wolongs who hold and manipulate. Doge is a different market, though.
15115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: That's how todays 5-10 year old will react in 10 years about Bitcoin explanation on: July 28, 2015, 06:34:35 PM
Young people dont want to understand anymore how stuff work. They jsut use it and dont care about how its work.
This is pretty sad.

Same with fiat money. You just use it every single day without even pausing to think how was it made and what are the other uses for it aside from buying / spending.
15116  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin wealth by region - please consider completing this poll on: July 28, 2015, 06:32:27 PM
Voted. I don't get it why polls of this type doesn't get that much support. Also I don't think that you'll really get an honest answer from the users of this forum. Most of the users nowadays doesn't even read a single post in a thread and just go straight commenting and/or voting on a poll.
15117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I can smell the fear on: July 28, 2015, 06:29:14 PM
their blockchains will work like Intranets today. it will not affect "our" bitcoin internet of money.

"Permissioned ledgers and closed, centralized blockchains such as Eris, Hyperledger, Ripple etc., rely on trust and central key holders."

that is indeed what i'm talking about. It will not affect 'our' bitcoin and it has nothing to do with the bitcoin we trade with.

Agreed, this has nothing to do with bitcoin as their centralized block chains would have nothing to do with bitcoin in the first place. Also, for a block chain ledger to work, there must be an incentive for working on it. Bank coin?
15118  Economy / Speculation / Re: Free money available on: July 28, 2015, 06:25:37 PM
Has anyone really listened to this 'prophet'? Not a good time to short hard on bitcoin.

I don't follow many people on this forum, but TPTB (aka Anonymint) is someone worth listening too. His comprehension and ability to crystallize information from diverse (and relevant) sources is impressive to say the least.

Any threads wherein he proved his credibility? Actually, I'm kinda interested on what the OP states. It's just that I have some trust issues given that this is the internet.
15119  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price about to explode..at 296.74 now.... on: July 28, 2015, 06:24:10 PM
$296.61 is the price that I'm seeing. What if it go straight south? Not pessimistic, just being realistic.
15120  Economy / Speculation / Re: How will Ethereum's launch affect BTC's price? on: July 28, 2015, 06:22:22 PM

I couldn't even understand what is stated on that wikipedia page. It only says it is decentralized computing. I'm curious what is the difference between Ether coin and Ethereum. Can anyone with the knowledge about it explain it here? Also, I've read their "Almost there.." article, and I could fairly say that Ethereum is not intended for general public use as of this moment.
