1522  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Possible I could sell these metals in one 'variety pack'? on: January 08, 2015, 01:55:56 PM
There are many people in this forum interested in metals.
The silver and gold should go pretty fast for at least spot price.

If you can't sell it as a lot, then would I recommend that you split it up and sell one-by-one.

But it all comes down to if the buyer is confident that they are real.
Offering escrow would also help, use one of the known guys here.

Good luck with the sale Smiley
1523  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Possible I could sell these metals in one 'variety pack'? on: January 08, 2015, 12:25:21 PM
Yes of cause is it possible to sell it, if the price is right.

The problem from a buyer perspective is to verify that the bars are not fakes.
And since the buyer cannot "ask where you got it from", then will I presume you do not hold any certificates or receipts.
This will most likely lead to, that each of the larger bars need to be drilled and tested to verify the metal purity.
1524  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: January 08, 2015, 09:09:40 AM
Hmm.. Not good in securing myself.. A question. How do the new backup system work? I remember, in the past.. We will have to download a .pdf file and there will be a few random characters given to us. That is easy and I understand. However, now.. I tried to backup and it did not give me any .pdf to download. A full explanation is appreciated.

Edit: So, with the backup system.. what am I suppose to do if my Android spoiled or was stolen?

I am unsure of how full explanation you expect, so excuse me if it is to basic:

Normally when generating private keys, you make a random number and convert it into a private key after a fix set of rules.
Mycelium now uses "Hierarchical Deterministic" key generation, which means that they only generate one "master seed" with high entropy, and all the following private keys, is generated with an fixed algorithm using the master seed as input.

This means that if you loose your wallet, you will only need to backup know the "master seed" in order to reconstruct all the private keys that was made from this master seed.

Quote
What does HD mean?
HD is short for Hierarchical Deterministic. Typically, bitcoin wallets generate each new bitcoin address from a unique random number, requiring a separate backup of each new address. To avoid losses from lack of backups, such wallets use a single bitcoin address for all your transactions. HD wallets instead use a “master seed” (a single large random number), to derive all future bitcoin addresses sequentially from that single seed. This means that you only need to make a backup once, and all the keys generated by an HD wallet can be restored at any time in the future just from that single master seed.

They're too busy making pointless layout updates to fix a massive security bug. It's perfectly logical.

Well said my good sir.

New layout every month, getting worse and worse (maybe I am getting old, but I want classical Skype layout back)

Forgot to mention, shipping from Belgium. I'll cover insurance if you cover shipping. If not taking express it really won't be much.

Awesome Smiley

I would like to see (good) pictures of the brass coins before bidding.
1530  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's biggest problem on: January 06, 2015, 05:10:47 PM
Bitcoin have the same problems as fiat money, you can always be subject to a robbery.
When some steals your money, then would it be silly to blame the dollar bills for being robbed.

Credit cards has solved this problem by adding insurance to their service, which of cause cost money.

I can only see two way of bitcon becoming a mainstream payment system:
1. People start taking responsibility over securing their own funds (people are morons when it comes to handling money).
2. Payment services emerge with a similar insurance system as CC.

Rec'd my two coins today, gonna be assembling them tonight! Can't wait!

One suggestion serp, there was WAY too much tape on this package. I had to literally rip the package to shreds to open it. You heavily taped both ends and the center of it. It was a fully taped package. Don't know if it was just me but it was overkill in my opinion. Thanks again nonetheless!

Well I hope you like the coins!  I actually had a postal worker lecture me on not taping enough once so maybe I do overkill it now?  I'm not currently using self adhesive mailing labels so I just get the 4 sides of the label and then once over top of your address.  I will probably pick up a thermal printer soon.

There is no such thing as too much tape  Cheesy

What is the owls relation to the Drachma currency?

(That owl is looking at me  Shocked)

In Greek mythology, a Little Owl baby (Athene noctua) traditionally represents or accompanies Athena, the virgin goddess of wisdom, or Minerva, her syncretic incarnation in Roman mythology.

Thanks for sharing, I love the design of the old drachma coins Smiley
They are awesome.

Escrow tomato tho

Asking for escrow when trading with smoothie is just silly.
You trust him to make your private keys but do not trust him with upfront payment for the coins.

1540  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice wanted: Using One Address on: January 04, 2015, 01:24:58 PM
There is a potential problem with reusing public addresses, the reusing works by "accident", not by design.
It is considered a bad practice, and not something that should be done. Nevertheless I personally have a vanity addy which I reuse for small transactions.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Address_reuse

The security part: as long as an address only received bitcoins, only the address is known. But once you spent some coins from that address, its public key is known (public address is a double hash of a public key). Theoretically, having your public keys out there could be more vulnerable than having only their sha256+ripemd160 hashes out there.
