Mixing AMD and Nvidia cards on the same PC is possible. However since you only want to add two cards and want to use the PC for gaming, I think it would be cheaper and you would be better off seeing if you can pick up a used Dell or HP workstation with a 500W or more PSU at Goodwill or on Craigslist and use that as your dedicated mining rig. You should be able to find one for $100 or less. That would free up your PC and you can leave the rig on for mining. Read through this thread for other ideas.

....

Has anyone used the other two? Which one should I go for?

THanks

There is a good choise:
Add2PSU. Don't use cheaper knock offs. You don't want to cheap out on power supply components (PSU, Cables, connectors, etc.)
The importance of using 2PSU adapter with relay is evident: When main PSU switchs off - the secondary switchs off too

But the price is too high: 13 USD for 24 pin connector, molex connector and simple relay. Look at Aliexpress. It's only one important parameter of the relay: turn-on delay

You don't need a relay to have the PSU's turn on and off simutanously. By connecting the power on and ground leads from the main PSU, the ATX splitter cable does the same thing. The benefit of using the Add2PSU type relay is it creates a load on the 5V line as well, which is important for cheaper PSU's that regulate voltage through the 5V line.

Better quality dual conversion PSU's convert the entire energy into a 12V single rail and then uses VRM to generate 5V and 3.3V. The cheaper PSU type converts using different taps in the transformer for each voltage and use the 5V line to regulate the voltage, instead of the 12V line like the dual conversion models. That causes voltage instability from not loading the 5V line.

Add2PSU is just a reed relay to daisy chain the PSU's so they start and shutoff at the same time and share the same ground. I have the Add2PSU and the knockoffs. Both work fine. You can also make your own from an automotive relay.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDArticles&op=Story&ndar_id=27

Using an ATX 24-pin splitter cable is another easy way to connect two PSU's.

https://www.amazon.com/Female-Power-Supply-Motherboard-Adapter/dp/B013HTWI9G

The paper clip method isn't any good because you need to turn the secondary PSU off manually after a system shutdown and the PSU's don't share the same ground.
1524  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD GPUs Sells Out in 5 Minutes, Gamers Livid at Crypto Miners on: September 02, 2017, 01:03:30 PM
It's an AMD problem. Nvidia has no problem supplying gamers and miners with the cards they want, albeit at a markup at what they sold for previously. Maybe AMD should ramp up production and do the same?
1525  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Reward for the best and cheapest ETHEREUM MINING RIG on: September 01, 2017, 08:27:22 PM
Hello, I need someone to build 2000-4000MH/s Ethereum mining rig for me. A fully working -ready-to-go-.

Someone in Europe, so the meeting would be easy to arrange and also you would need to come in Finland and install everything in our center.

PM me if you can handle this with a final price for your service, thank you

That's not a rig, that's a farm. You are looking at 100+ GPU's to have 3 GH/s on ETH.
1526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 5 different cards mining on: September 01, 2017, 09:51:02 AM
Motherboards don't always support using all the PCI-E slots for GPU's. Worse case you spend ~$175 buying a motherboard known to work, CPU and ram. I would go with the 850 W PSU for the overhead. EVGA G2 or P2 is a very good choice. The price diffrence between the 750 W and the 850 W is not that much and the PSU will run more efficiently at less of a load than the max output.

1527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASRock h110 mining Pro × 6 NVIDIA 1700 on: August 31, 2017, 01:51:56 PM
If you switched the risers and cards to confirm they are working, It could be some conflict from switching the PCI-E slots that's causing the cards not to be detected. I would go in to Device Manager and click 'show hidden devices' and delete hidden instances of cards shown. Then uninstall the drivers in safe mode using DDU and shutdown. Then connect only three cards to the black PCI-E slots and install the drivers. After those cards are shown in Device Manager, shutdown and connect the remaining cards to the other black PCI-E slots. Windows should detect the cards and install the drivers. It may take a while for the cards to show up in Device Manager and confirm in Task Manger there is no running instance of the Driver Installation Module running before you reboot.

See if 'Above 4GB MMIO BIOS assignment' is enabled in the Bios, under Chipset configuration. Also check if Windows is installed in UEFI mode?

How to test whether Windows 10 was installed with UEFI?

Since you only are using 6 cards, I would put the in the black PCI-E slots to give them more space. The black PCI-E slots are the primary slots and the white ones are the secondary PCI-E slots. I also set the PCI-E slts to GEN 1 in the Bios.
1530  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASRock h110 mining Pro × 6 NVIDIA 1700 on: August 31, 2017, 10:41:19 AM
If it's the H110 Pro BTC+ motherboard, check that the risers aren't shorting out. It's unfortunate the PCI-E slots on the ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ board causes the risers to be too close. I had to put two pieces of electrical tape on the back of the risers to keep them from shorting out, causing the GPU's not to be detected.

Currently mining Monero with a i7-4770 getting ~320 H/s using the XMR-STAK-CPU miner. Nexus is another good coin to look at and it's been on a tear up latetly.

1532  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why not choose 1080 instead of 1070? on: August 31, 2017, 10:15:04 AM
The problem with the 1080 is it uses GDDR5X memory, so it's limited in what it can mine effectively. GDDR5X isn't optimized for memory intesive algorithms like ETH. That's why at best you will get 25 H/s. They are relatively good for core dependant algorithms like ZEC. I have a single MSI GAMING X GTX 1080 mining ZEC at ~575 H/s with 75% TDP +130 MHz core and +1000 MHz  memory overclock with EWBF showing ~180 W. For Monero I get ~660 H/s t 45% TDP -200 core +1000 Memory.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $500 for a 1080, whcih is what I paid for mine. I can buy two RX 570 4GB cards for less than $250 each that will get 315 H/s on ZEC, 740 H/s on XMR and dual mine Ethash and DCR at 29 MH/s + 740 MH/s DCR for each card. Making the RX 570 substatially more profitable for less money.
1533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: what is maximum power draw of sapphire nitro+ 570 4gb at maximum overclocking ? on: August 29, 2017, 03:09:12 PM
I have a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 570 4GB. While dual mining UBQ+DCR, GPU-Z shows 140W plus add another 50W for the riser, so ~190 W total @ 1150 MHz core clock, 2150 MHz memory clock with a -96 mV undervolt and -10% Power Limit.

If you plan on dual mining, for 7 cards I would go with a 1600 W PSU.  For a dual PSU I would go with a 1200 W + a 750 W or two 1000 W.

Risers power consumption is calculated in GPUZ.

GPUZ Power = power from the PSU + power from the pcie port (riser)

You are wrong. The wattage reported by GPU-Z is the VGA auxiliary power input wattage the card uses. This is easy to verify with a dual PSU setup like I have that runs the VGA power off of one PSU and all the risers off the main PSU. VGA auxillary power input wattage + 45-50 W for the riser = total GPU wattage.
1534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What are you mining today? on: August 29, 2017, 03:01:45 PM
if you like a coin and say you mine, here, or youtube, expect its difficulty to rise and earn less. Keep in mind, keep it for you  Wink I mine for long term.

I disagree. If it's a legitimate coin with good development and roadmap, drawing attention to it is a good thing. If more people start mining it and the difficulty goes up, some will decide it's better to buy the coin instead of trying to mine. The end result is it raises the marketcap and the price for everyone.
1535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Power Supplies on: August 29, 2017, 02:36:22 PM
Server power supplies with breakout boards that are 93% rated and kept under 80 percent load are not that loud.  I replaced all my 90% rated server supplies with the 93% and they are much less noisy.  I use the pico power supplies with a special built cable ( 6 pin to 8 pin ESP & barrel plug) that connects to the pico.  But if your looking to resell the PSU's when done then i prefer the Corsair I series because they monitor power usage (as I use 240v) quite easily. Once I know I have a stable rig, I convert it over to the 1200w server psu's.

Corsair PSU's have been pretty good in the past, though BBT has reported having multiple bad Corsair AX series brand new PSU's.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXoPFPqU3Y8&feature=youtu.be&t=3798

They may be having quality control issues. A majority stake of Corsair was also recently sold off to an investment group.

I have the ASRock H110 Pro BTC+. The 8 card limit of the same type is a Windows driver issue. Supposedly AMD and Nvidia will release a driver sometime later this year that increases the number of GPU's of that same type that can be used in Windows. It's unfortunate the PCI-E slots on the ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ board causes the risers to be too close. I had to put two pieces of electrical tape on the back of the risers to keep them from shorting out, causing the GPU's not to be detected. Otherwise, the ASRock board has a M.2 slot and power buttons, which is nice. The ASRock board is also $20 cheaper on Newegg.

Try removing the hard drive. You also don't need the 4-pin molex Aux power connected if there are no GPU's. Since you are getting a video signal and an error message after Post, all you should need to do to enter the Bios is press del or F2 after turning on the power during Post.

And my monitor is not turning on after I hook up my GPU into the motherboard? It's working fine if I don't place the GPU.

Try connecting it to the 1st 1x slot using a riser. Once in the Bios disable the onboard video.
Nope, it's not turning on. And I tried hitting the delete key repeatedly, but same old message still. Do I need to hook up any special cables to my monitor, all I am running from my monitor is the power cable and VGA cable to the motherboard.

Once you connect a GPU to the motherboard it should disable the onboard video. Plug the monitor in to the GPU.
I don't have the necessary cable to connect the GPU to the motherboard, ordering it rn. Can I run the BIOS without hooking up the GPU for now or do I need the GPU to run it? If yes, then how?

Thanks for the help, really appreciate it.

Remove the GPU from the system and connect the monitor to the onboard video. Press del during post to enter the to enter the Bios.
