Great developments happening here. Good job everyone. Congrats DGB once again!

I've got some third party initiative to throw into the mix that hopefully will be met with approval and live up to it's potential:

Since I am convinced that one of the best ways to help an established digital currency gain wide scale adoption is by educating on the subject, and since educating can only be done with reliable and dependable information that is easily and freely accessible, I have made the decision to do my small part in that effort by creating a comprehensive consolidated knowledge base on the subject that’s available to anyone wishing to learn more on the subject.

Now, that is not only a mouthful to say, it is also a very ambitious undertaking! One doesn’t build a comprehensive consolidated KB overnight! Nevertheless, the daunting nature of the endeavor should not discourage one from accepting the challenge – quite the contrary: it should be wholeheartedly embraced, especially when the cause is so important.

People who are new to digital currencies are equally daunted when trying to understand even the basics of the concept, let alone how you go about actually buying, or mining, or both, and then storing their digital currency. Just getting them to understand and accept the intangible nature of digital currencies is a major undertaking.

If we who are experts on the subject were to shy away from the challenge of helping them to learn, then we would be doing no more than contributing to the eventual future failure of digital currencies themselves. It’s understandable if someone who has no stake what-so-ever remains skeptical and asks us to come back another day, but it’s quite another for those of us who are already digital currency owners to shrink at the effort of better explaining what digital currencies are and what they have to offer. Make no mistake about it, this is no altruistic effort to help others by any means: this is a selfish effort to promote something we already believe in but that the majority still sees as pie-in-the-sky. Make no mistake about it, we owe it to ourselves to take on the challenge of helping newcomers to understand and participate since there is no better way of taking digital currencies to the next level – mainstream – and creating value in our investments as price rises as a result.

I firmly believe that “priority number one” right now needs to be the gathering together of all pertinent information on the subject and its urgent dissemination. It’s a task that will take hundreds (if not thousands) of man hours, and one that I dearly hope to have your collaboration with. That having been said, I don’t expect miracles even with all your help. As they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, but if we make a consistent and prolonged effort, over time, little by little, I’m confident that the job can be done.

In summarizing, one extremely important “missing” element in the digital currency world is a consolidated information source freely open to the public that empowers newcomers with the information necessary to “take a leap of faith” and get involved. In my opinion, the resulting benefits of this kind of resource to the digital currency world would be gigantic, and, of course, it’s not only the newcomers who benefit, but all of us as we each successfully contribute our own small part, in each of our areas of expertise, towards the mass adoption of our own investments – we all gain in the process, there is no doubt about it.

With that in mind, I invite everyone to contribute what you can. No contribution is too small. No contribution is insignificant. Everyone, and everything, counts.

As I said above, I have made the decision to do what I can to help make digital currencies, in this case DGB, more easily understood to the general public, and that has taken on life in the form of a “barebones” forum and FAQ that I hope will serve as the foundation from which to start building. I would very much appreciate all your input and help . . . I’d probably be better advised to put that in plural: WE would ALL very much appreciate your input and help! Again, it’s in all of our interests to do so.

Hope your presence and impact is felt over there just like it is here, and many hearty thanks in advance.

A Coin named Vericoin has some neat features I think we need to implement...
 www.vericoin.info

SMS functions as text-based gateway and wallet system that links the cell network to the VeriCoin network. VeriCoin users can load VeriCoins onto this wallet and use the SMS network to make transactions around the world.

SEND MONEY OR SPEND MONEY ANYWHERE

VeriBit makes it possible to spend VeriCoin wherever BitCoin is accepted. Besides BitCoin itself, VeriCoin is the most spendable digital currency directly from the wallet.

EARN INTEREST

Network stake-dependent interest is the mechanism for minimizing inflation and earning interest on your investment in VeriCoin. The practical range of interest is between 1.5-2.5% and it is dependent on the liquidity in the network.

PRIVATE ANON TRANSACTIONS? - very appealing feature to many people

Can we do something similar with Digibyte. I think this feature would make our coin THE killer coin. Vericoin has a horrible name IMO. If we can implement some of the features their coin has however I think we could make Digibyte even more appealing. These 4 NEW features would be amazing for Digibyte and help propel us to the next level in the Cryptocurrency  game. Also what are Digibytes called when divided ? A Digibit? We need to make these things clear as well. From outsiders looking in these are things they look at before throwing their money into a coin. I do not believe Vericoin is doing it right. They don't have a good name and that is a huge part of it. I believe if we can implement some of these features if not all of them into Digibyte we will take this game over...

Thoughts anyone?

The SMS wallet is something that MyriadCoin is also working on for MYR, and there are 3rd party developers working on BTC versions.

I agree, this is another very important vehicle for taking a digital currency mainstream, no doubt about it!

Please check out the front page of www.DigiByte.co & let us know what you think.
http://www.digibyte.co/

Remember we need to geer the website toward people who have no idea what DigiByte is.

We are thinking of adding:

How do I start with DigiByte?
1) Educated yourself
2) Download a wallet
3) Get some digis

Looks like we're going to be mirroring each other . . . at least to begin with. Wink

What can I say other than to say I think you're going in the right direction? I mean, if I said anything else I'd be contradicting my own efforts!!!  Cheesy

Of course you know this all too well from our conversations on the subject: education, education, education.

And it won't hurt at all to have things duplicated, or triplicated, or . . . the more sources the better. (Third party initiatives popping up around a base product are often an early sign of an industry beginning to take shape!)

Great to see energy and resources being dedicated to this!!!

Lookin' good. I'll mention some suggestions to polish it a bit once you've posted it in the wallet install for Windows thread. Very nice. (I'll get you some Linux screen shots sometime soon if someone else doesn't beat me to it.)
Thnx HR, looking forward to your feedback.
I did post it on the forum but it needed to be checked by a admin.

HR, this is awesome and a great initiative  Just let me wake up and im willing to help you where i can.  Grin

Glad you like it 24, and very much looking forward to working with you.

So where can we start?  The purpose is to get average joe to understand the basics of Digibyte, How-to etc etc.
Pics with information/how to install the wallet or something would be a good start right?

That would be a great start! Everyone with what they've already got and best know.

I've set up the forum with the basic categories and some initial posts/questions to help orientate and get the ball rolling, but I'm sure that there will be more categories to add and questions to ask - no doubt about it.

The forum is pretty wide open and it's meant to be that way in order to stimulate as much brainstorming and creativity as possible, so, I guess if I were to put things in a nutshell I'd have to say: everyone with what you think is best and most needed. It's all for the doing at this point and completely wide open!

I've got to get going with my real job and probably won't be back until late, so have fun and see you later (and hopefully the forum will work without issue in my absence  Cheesy )

Another Butterfly Labs? Or worse?

Roughly how many Digibyte are currently mined per day?

Look at how many algos there are, and then you can find the main pools of each algo and find out  Grin

Current Reward * 2880 = Theoretical DGB Mined per Day (real discovery is usually always a little less)

Block Discovery Time = 30 Seconds (24 hours * 120 = 2880)
Current Reward = ~2410

I got a PM asking about how to solo mine . . .

The abridged, super simplified, solo mining HOWTO Wink

This assumes you already have your rig built, and OS and miner installed and configured.

Solo mining, single rig

ONLY 3 THINGS TO DO:

  • set up your wallet config file
  • set up your wallet to run as a server
  • set up your miner batch file to point to your wallet

Wallet config file key items: everything, but there are less than 20 lines

Cut and paste what's posted here into your digibyte.conf file inside the same directory/folder where your wallet is found:

Code:
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=yourusername
rpcpassword=yourpassword
server=1
daemon=1
txindex=1
debug=1
algo=scrypt
rpcport=14022
port=12024
addnode=216.250.125.121
addnode=74.208.230.160
addnode=69.164.206.169
addnode=192.99.215.234
addnode=96.126.114.208
addnode=54.204.36.33
addnode=192.99.41.108
addnode=199.83.128.91
addnode=199.83.132.91

Change the rpcuser and rpcpassword to something of your choosing

Save it as digibyte.conf

Create a shortcut of your DigiByte wallet, right click, click properties append --server to the end of the TARGET line
(Example: C:\Users\User\Wallets\DigiByte\digibyte-qt.exe --server)
Save it and run your DigiByte Wallet as a server using that newly created shortcut.

One other thing, don't forget to modify the algo line with the algorithm you're using.
Code:
algo=scrypt
algo=sha256d
algo=groestl
algo=qubit
algo=skein

Setup your bat/script startup file by SIMPLY CHANGING 3 THINGS: your -o -u and -p switches (everything else stays the same)

-o 127.0.0.1:14022
-u the user name that you gave to rpcuser in your digibyte.conf file
-p the password that you gave to rpcpassword in your digibyte.conf file

Save and run. You're now mining solo.

Multiple Rig Setups

All the same as above, except you need to:

Change the 127.0.0.1 in the rpcallowip line in your digibyte.conf file to the IP of your server wallet machine or of your subnet, (for example to 192.168.0.* or 192.168.1.* which are the most common - you could go with 192.168.*.* when in doubt)

If necessary, create any necessary firewall exceptions on your server wallet machine and/or router.

Change the -o switch in your bat/script startup file to the IP of your server wallet machine, followed by a colon, and the rpcport number used (for example 192.168.0.30:17772 )

And you're off and running, now solo mining using various miners together.  Grin

It's easy as 1-2-3. Good luck, and good mining!

I downloaded and installed the DigiHash Easy Miner und I'm mining Scrypt since 2 hours now but haven't received any payments yet - is that normal?
How long does it take to get a payout?

Did you check Digihash.co so everyting is ok?
If its all ok you payment will follow shortly, Dont know how long it takes exactly.
There is a wiki page coming with all this information.

Do mined coins needs to mature before you see any payouts? In that case it could be several hours before you see something I suppose?
+ how many blocks are needed to fully mature?

Payouts are immediate if you're solo mining. That means that once you find a block, the entire block is yours and goes directly into your wallet.

If you're mining on a pool, be it P2P, traditional, or officially sponsored, your payout amount will depend on your proportional hashpower contributed towards finding each block. As for payout threshold minimums (when your hashrate contribution is extremely small), they are set by each pool operator.

Those are just some very basic answers for your general questions. The more information you can provide on each individual case, the better! Post system specific data, along with mining configurations (algo, program, settings, etc.) and results, for more specific responses. You'll not only be helping yourselves, you'll also be lending a big hand to the rest of us, and to DGB in general!

Even if you do find a block solo mining (which is rather unlikely) you still need 120 confirmations before the DGB is spendable. It will show up in your wallet but will be labelled 'immature'. Same goes with pooled mining of any sort, after finding a block you will have to wait for them to be fully confirmed which in Digibytes case is 120 confirmations / 30 second avg block times and then wait for your DGB balance to hit the pools minimum payout threshold.

Yes sir!

BTW, solo mining success really depends on your hashrate. It's rather easy to set up solo mining with several miners. And as you say, you'll have to wait for 120 confirmations before you can spend your newly discovered DGB. Just in case the point is lost on anyone, the reason why you have to wait at least that long for any pool payout (except P2P which is also immediate - the problem here with very small hashrate contributions is that you're probably not going to get any payout at all!) is that no-one would payout before getting paid themselves (even if they could, but they can't anyway until confirmed!). Again, with threshold minimums, that depends on the pool operator's configuration (and, again, with P2P, very small hashrate contributions normally don't reach minimums to even get a minimum, which is to say, you'll end up with a big fat zero.)

Did you know the fact that BCT user "xploited", whose github name is "l0rdicon", developed DGB and CLAM (DigiByte/CLAMS Developer).

However, I cannot find his name on the website, Jared, is he still with the DGB team? Thank you.

So whats your point anyway?

My point is if he is with the team or not, if he is, then what is his name on the website?
Why those names are not clear and have no pictures? I would love to know all those people in the list, especially the ones doing the PR stuff, since they have been very passive.
It is good for transparency anyway. Don't look for trouble in my posts, coz you cannot find. I might criticise at some point though, but it is good for the future of DGB, just my good intentions.

I love DGB and I want it succeed.

I don't like when Jared becomes silent. Anyway, I have already collected enough DGB, and I will stop buying until I got answered to these questions.

Jared silent? hmm i dont see much devs on btctalk everyday.

With all the Internet freaks around i can understand not everybody wants to expose them self,Not YET.
But Facebook and google are your friends.

The only one who mentions DigiByte on their profile page is Jared.  Sad

(I can't say for sure about William since only an unavailable content message appears when accessing his account.)

The question is why no-one who is supposed to support and/or work with DigiByte does so publicly, and, unfortunately, without exception, I think all the possible answers are negative (and I'm trying to be positive about this).

BTW, sorry for not getting back to you on the PM's you sent a while back - I hadn't had the time to adequately research them and since I didn't have anything to comment back, well, in short, I kept saying to myself that I'd get around to it, and that I'd get around to it, and never did . . . until now - since I'm feeling guilty I finally made the time, but I don't find anything either direct or indirect that indicates collaboration with DigiByte on those items either.

Add: the most positive of the negative answers (that I can think of) would be that they want to keep the price down so they can buy on the cheap. (Careful with this if this is the case as that kind of thing can and does backfire, and you end up with a missed opportunity hole in the head.)

Did you know the fact that BCT user "xploited", whose github name is "l0rdicon", developed DGB and CLAM (DigiByte/CLAMS Developer).

However, I cannot find his name on the website, Jared, is he still with the DGB team? Thank you.

So whats your point anyway?

I think the question is quite clear and that we might ask you "what's your point anyway?"

Please, everyone, don't let hard hitting questions aimed at knowing the truth be threatening (in this case, like others, the simple desire to have accurate, up-to-date, information). They're to be answered with respect and honesty (sooner or later, one way or another, and whether you're in front of the curve, or behind it, is up to you).

From what I've red all over the the internet, there is 5 possible reasons for this BTC massive dump:

- Bitstamp hack => 19000 Bitcoins robbed
- Roskomnadzor which has blocked the access to 7 websites related to Bitcoin. Moreover, the russian government has clearly announced that Bitcoin is only based on speculation and tends to favor the parallel economies.
- The canadian exchange Vault of Satoshis will close on 5th february 2015
- Butterfly Labs and its 94000 Bitcoins
- It is also maybe a leak of a number of speculators, which have lost faith in Bitcoin

In my opinion, this is not only one of these reasons, but all these ones together which are responsible of the actual Bitcoin price.

It's time for Bitcoin 2.0, faster and more secured : Digibyte!

This blockchain data certainly supports your theory of "a leak of a number of speculators, which have lost faith in Bitcoin" (in combination with the rest of the reasons cited). https://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions-excluding-popular There's no doubt that classic capitulation is led and reinforced by the small speculator who capitulates with a 90-95% loss when dealing the return to mean on a classic parabolic run-up. All the characteristics, from forced liquidation to small specs throwing in the towel at an enormous loss, are present in this market. Keep some power dry to take advantage of possible sub $100 BTC!
