Nice to see some fresh blood here Grin

I just wanted to agree with the idea that the OP post in this thread really needs to be cleaned and spruced up.
Also, it might be nice if we got a new thread title ( We didn't have a "Happy Birthday DGB!" Thread title? What a missed opportunity!  Huh )

Also, maybe we could get a kind of behind the scenes look at what happens in your offices, or just what you all do in general. That would make great, if difficult to produce well, material for the youtube channel.

This is a very good suggestion. Make people feel like they are apart of something other than this forum community. Making people feel involved in DGB day to day operations would be great. Developer segments are big hits. It will also boost community trust (not like you need any more from most of us.)

I agree in principal with the above. The OP should be kept updated with relevant and pertinent information. That is something that takes very little time and is really inexcusable if not done – in a real life boardroom the members of the board would not stand for such neglect, or would they?

We are increasingly seeing more and more people clamoring for information about the startups in L.A. and Hong Kong and just basic stuff like what’s going on behind the scenes. This should not be surprising to anyone – stock owners would never leave the board members alone in peace if they did not report on what they were doing, or would they?

It’s getting to the point where we’re beginning to see outright heckling. That’s something that is called "shouting down" in the British Parliament. There’s a very long tradition of shouting down the PM who's lost confidence, and the best way to lose confidence is by not informing on what you are doing. In the British parliamentary system, this kind of “heckling” is considered to be part of 100's of years of HONORABLE democratic tradition (so we should be careful with who we call trolls and how we treat others who are just "raising their voices" a bit).

A good business is forthcoming with information. That is not to say that secrets are revealed or that key strategies are given away; it is only to say that what can be disseminated is disseminated. Sharing information with investors is a necessary fact if a publicly held business wants to survive. The L.A. and Hong Kong operations are known facts, so where is the information supporting those facts? Where are the pictures? Where are the people? What’s going on with the Core DigiByte Team? The additional contributors? The merchants accepting DigiByte? What’s the latest press release?

Where is everyone? What is everyone doing? Or has everyone vanished, and is it that the only thing really left is this forum and its contributors?

Are we really a part of something other than this forum community?

And to think that it really takes oh so few hours a week to keep the information flow going, and when you think about what important returns you get out of such limited effort, again, one must work hard to fight off that “negligence” word that invades one’s mind at the thought of the incredible harm being done by not keeping the community (DGB 'stock' holders) informed as well as can possibly be done.

To put it mildly, it’s hard to understand.

 Sad  Shocked  Huh  Embarrassed  Undecided  Cry

Jared, you can also summarise with a few words what those fork1-fork2-fork3 were for, just at the bottom of that section.
And you can link them to their official announcements in the thread. When you click "fork 1", you go to fork1 announcement in the thread.

There's nothing like a "what was updated" read me to not only inform those who don't already know, but to also show clear demonstrable stable and reliable progress!!!

Check it out, you lot need to come to http://thisisascam.com/ its way better than  CD and you can  5 times your investments just keep receiving and placeing them again at weeklyponzi im in profit for over 5 btc now! 100 btc gets you 30 btc in some hours. You can also watch the blockchain of the wallet paying out

JUST DON'T GAMBLE ON THE LAST DAY OF THIS WEEK AS YOU WILL BE LIKELY TO LOSE

No,just NO

That's right. No,just NO

BTW, isn't this kind of thing something the BitCoinTalk moderators/administrators should remove? I mean, come on, let's get serious: I've had posts removed for recommending DGB! Really, this kind of admin inconsistency makes me furious.

Happy Birthday

Congratulations on your many great accomplishments, the most recent being
the meeting of your previously stated goal of bringing private investors on board.
A fantastically well done job your first year.

I don't think I have ever seen comprehensive instructions on how to solomine a coin. I've found bits and pieces on several sites, but none that I could follow from start to finish and get the complete sequence.

Over the past few days, I decided to try it out just to see if I could get it working, and I did! If anyone else is curious about how to do it, here are the steps I followed:

(Assuming your wallet is running on a Windows computer.)

1. Shut down your wallet.

2. In the C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Roaming\DigiByte folder, add a file called DigiByte.conf that contains this:

Code:
rpcallowip=*
rpcuser=abc
rpcpassword=zzz
server=1
daemon=1
txindex=1
debug=1
algo=scrypt
rpcport=14022
port=12024
addnode=74.208.230.160
addnode=69.164.198.161
addnode=66.228.56.115
addnode=106.187.37.124

3. Right-click the shortcut icon of your wallet
   a. choose Properties
   b. click the Shortcut tab
   c. in the Target, add -server to the end. (Example: "C:\Program Files\DigiByte\digibyte-qt.exe" -server)

4. Launch your wallet. It may reindex your blockchain, this can take awhile. Wait until this is done.

5. Go into the console of your wallet and type this and hit Enter: setgenerate true -1

6. Your computer is now CPU mining. It's going to use about 100% of the CPU on your computer, so it's best to run the wallet on a computer that is different from your mining rig.

7. Make note of the IP address of the computer your wallet is running on. From the Command Prompt: ipconfig

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection 2:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : your.internet.provider
   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.3
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

IP Address of the computer is 192.168.1.3

8. On your mining rig, point to 192.168.1.3:14022, username abc, password zzz

You are now solo mining! Depending on your mining program, you aren't going to see any activity until you find a block. But it is working. I have my wallet running on my Windows box, and my miner running on a Linux box. I pointed my linux miner to this and it worked.

There may be some other set of instructions out there that are better than this, but part of the fun for me was trying to figure out how to do it on my own from the bits and pieces I found on the internet.

Other Algos... In the digibyte.conf file, you should be able to change the algo= line to one of the other algorithms and mine, but I haven't tested that (yet).

Something I wrote a while, long while, back that might be worth adding to the collection (changing the coin specific options of course).  Wink

As far as transparency goes, I think that the writing is on the wall - has been from the beginning of legal tender - people want accountability, which is to say, traceable accounting. If I pay you with a check, the cancelled check is proof of having paid, for example. To make a long story very short, I think I can summarize my argument by saying that in order to compete for people's savings and investments long term, the digital currencies that survive will have to provide the same levels of transparency and privacy that have been demanded by savers and investors for centuries. There's no getting around that. Either you do it, or you stay very niche, very doge. It's an extremely important decision that will have to be made, or will be made for you, sooner or later, and the sooner the better. It's always best to be out in front of the curve, and the more you're out in front, the better.

Point 3 to this post: HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! I know it's going to be great for all of us!
1548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 31, 2014, 09:36:37 AM

XPY really only has a market cap of still well under 7 million if you really only consider the existing float on the free market.

It's bogus to count the pre-mined supply of coins still controlled by the devs as part of market cap, or does anyone think that price wouldn't crash if that supply really were made available.

There's a big difference between pie in the sky and reality.  Wink

Well I believe the problem is "coinmarketcap" giving coins like ripple the exposure they want by adding them while real coins get pushed down further and further.

When people go to coinmarketcap they look at the top coins and decide which they should invest in not knowing that most of those coins are premined or dont require any mining compared to the few real coins available.

I blame coinmarketcap. In fact they do have an option to remove those fake coins (in my opinion) and show some real coins.

http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/views/filter-non-mineable-and-premined/

Digibyte is ranked #57 as you can see but I believe this should be the main page not the other with all the fake coins because its pushing new investors to the top marketcap coins which most are premined or no mining at all. Obviously this also pushes digibyte out of the top 100 and lower when more and more fake coins pop up with massive marketcaps.

Maybe we should all post this to coinmarketcap?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=199685.new#new

Anyways thats just my opinion.

I think that's an excellent initiative! Not only would we be promoting DGB, and rightfully so, we would also be doing our small little parts to educate on the subject.

This is an excellent idea in my opinion. You can count on my help. Do you have any specific ideas on strategies and how to implement an effective campaign?

1550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★ 极特币★★ [DGB] ✈ ✔ $250,000 Private Investment Received on: December 31, 2014, 09:06:08 AM
that I've been clamoring for for some time now is mandatory identification as a block finder - either you identify yourself, or you don't mine.

Kinda of an absurd statement, not quite sure what the purpose would be, please elaborate.

I guess he means creating a transparent mining method for blockchain.
So you can query any IDs belonging to the miners and learn who they are etc.
But this is not quite possible to me... How can you make sure people are entering true information...
Maybe there are methods to query these things, but then it will be going through a centralized and government controlled mining scheme etc...

Cheers guys,...

Wait till you see my white paper. I have some of the issues, e.g., transparency, covered in my crypto-commodity venture.

This is one of the few threads I have on my Watchlist. Now that I'm caught up, back to work.

I'm referring to mandatory identification of block finders only, not every miner. Each block found should be clearly associated with the miner who found it, exactly like we see with each block that the The Blocks Factory finds, for example. This would apply to pools and your one odd out solo miner still in existence (solo miners would only have to provide an IP address). This would go a long ways towards eliminating uncertainty regarding weird issues like the continual flow of phantom autosells on Cryptsy, as well as enhancing DGB's commitment to transparency. Again, this would only apply to entities actually finding blocks, of which there are only a few, who should identify themselves voluntarily to begin with one would think, and if not, then they should be required to do so.

Looking forward to seeing you white paper. Can't wait!

The idea is to hold on your coins now and wait until you really want to sell it.

Absolutely.

Regardless of the reason, motives, or possible explanations, because if this is not a volume 'enhancer', then it's someone who is very bored and needs to get a life - there is no way in either case to make money doing this, so, everyone, place your bets: I say it's still SCRxxx (I think that's what his nick was anyway).

BTW, that reminds me, something very tangible, and something that reflects on long term commitments as well, that I've been clamoring for for some time now is mandatory identification as a block finder - either you identify yourself, or you don't mine.

15 million plus on Cryptsy just ate up the offer stack up to 16 SAT - took everything there was - is now rebuilding slowly - as always, the question is how much and for how long

edit: and the moron keeps selling at 13 . . .

About the bad print from cryptsy.  More coins have the "4 sat print".
Same timestamp 20 december

Yeah, I happened to be around and watching at the time. It was a system wide issue and everything was immediately taken down for "routine maintenance".  Cheesy

BTW, if you remember and if it's not to much of a hassle, ask Cryptsy a follow up question to your current open ticket about the auto-sells that kept happening when they had their DGB wallet in maintenance mode . . . that is if you haven't already . . . it would be interesting to see how they handle that one too.

That Q is already provided in my support ticket.  Wink

Ow yeah and when the 3.5 btc sell got eaten yesterday i placed a small buy on 14 sat.  following what whas happening and i see for 5 seconds a 4 sat. sell order in the left orderbook.  very strange. not got hit unfortunately.

Response from cryptsy helpdesk

I do apologize for the delay, however since our wallet is offline they are not deposits coming in for us to check and we are unable to provide other users trading information as it is a major security concern.

Sincerely
Mark
Cryptsy.com

So we can state it's not a miner dumping?

EDIT:
New mail to cryptsy.
Me:
Thank you for the information.
So we can say thats it's not a miner thats constantly selling?

Cryptsy:
It would be difficult to pinpoint what may be the reason. Since the wallet is down people may be selling off since they are currently unable to withdrawal those funds,We do know that it isn't somebody sending money to our exchange and dumping it because the wallet is down and unable to receive new deposits.

Wallet offline = impossible for these to be autosell

I think that much we can say for sure.

So what's the explanation? Some weirdo selling piecemeal at the exact same amount as the current block reward? I still wouldn't rule out Crypsty system error though . . . keeps their volume figures inflated at the same time . . . their version of Facebook likes.  Cheesy

Good work (I'm actually amazed at how fast they responded and the amount of useful information they gave you - you must be establishing a good reputation for yourself!)

Is it possible to ask cryptsy what adres this dump is coming from?

I just added something more to my last post just above. I'm thinking this is most likely Cryptsy incompetence: a data reporting error that they either haven't identified, have identified but don't know how to fix, have identified and don't care, have identified and don't have the resources, or any combination of the above.

If I were to put odds on this, that would be my best bet.

Did send a support ticket to cryptsy, Let's see what they have to say.

Good deal. Never hurts to give people the benefit of the doubt and an opportunity to get it right. Now, with just a little patience and perseverance, both of which you have in abundance, we shall see. Good job taking the initiative and time.

Perhaps we shouldn't make too much of this. We know that these "automatic sells" continued when Cryptsy had its DGB wallet in maintenance mode - something that is also completely impossible since without a wallet, there can be NO possibility of a deposit and much less so of an automatic sell.

Cryptsy is known for bad data reporting, and very poor quality controls. The DGB 4 SAT print never happened. And they don't even try to back out their bad data. Beyond malicious intent, which is very possible as well (there's nothing more demoralizing than seeing a steady flow of sell orders at a level where the seller would obviously be selling at a loss - the demoralizing question being: how long can this continue?), I think we should focus on incompentence, which is the hallmark of the crypto world to begin with. After all, what can we expect of an exchange whose knowledge base is made up of 13 articles and doesn't even have an honorable mention for its own autosell feature!

Since nothing happens by chance, let's draw a lesson from this: how much are you willing to trust losers with your money and are you willing to leaving your digital currency on any exchange longer than the absolute necessary in order to get your trade done?

This is a 13 second time frame on the sell history on Cryptsy.....no way on this earth did DGB blocks get solved that quick.......something is just so wrong here...perhaps or just maybe there is someone with lots of DGB stolen from Mintpal thats dumping on the slow rather than doing it in one big lump

I just took a quick spreadsheet look at the last hour of Cryptsy and the last hour of correlated blockchain. As I said before, the confirmation time needs to be accounted for. That's 100 confirms for each block mined, correct? Or approximately one hour, on average, of latency? Add another 10 minutes for Cryptsy batch / confirm time, and then we'd more or less have the comparative periods? Okay, done: 98 out of 120 - a fairly high percentage, but not impossible. One thing's certain, whoever is doing this would be mining all algos, and that would be a bit odd I would think . . .

ADD:

Okay, but if we back out those who are identifying themselves on the blockchain, we can subtract 41 for the Blocks Factory that weren't auto sold on Cryptsy, which, in and of itself would mean that it would have been 98 out of 79, a mathematical impossibility.

Now to confirm this on a longer time frame and on to question 2 (I'm out of time tonight - good luck, and don't forget that the proximity in time for the smaller groupings on Cryptsy is due to their batch processing . . . if you're interesting in exploring this further, in a scientific manner, review my instructions closely  Wink ).

Just a quick observation to ponder. I think some of the greatest strengths of crypto are also it's greatest weaknesses when it comes to "investing". To put it simply, we now live in an instant gratification world where everything is supposed to happen yesterday before it's outdated tomorrow. My grandfather was fond of saying "if you want to be a successful investor, buy it and forget you own it..." which simply means it takes time to make real money. Trust me, he made real money...

Here, in this scene, time is a concept and not something to ponder but to cheat in every way possible. For example, these forums allow us to instantly communicate our intentions, concerns, fears and anything else that might affect the buying and selling of digital currency, instantly. Nothing has time to take hold, to grow slowly or, recede slowly, all has to happen in a flash.

If we could learn to be patient, (as some here certainly know first hand), and take the price changes in stride, it would be in our best interest to invest and wait, not sell out and proudly post here and in other forums, with childish profanity included, what a great decision it was to sell out at only a slight loss now because 'all is certainly lost" since a x10 profit was not make in a months time. Ask the early adopters of Bitcoin who are quite well off now how they made their millions. I bet you won't find any who sold at every price drop from 2009 through 2013.

Faith, it's all about faith on our end and innovation and hard work on Digibyte's end. Personally, I think Jared and crew are keeping up their end, let's see about keeping up ours. Remember, no matter what, you don't loose money until you sell below where you bought in, it's not rocket science, it's 3rd grade math...

Nice writing RJF. Thanks!

This dumping on Cryptsy seems to be around 7-10 seconds each time...sometimes faster even less than 2 seconds.....are the blocks really that fast to solve on DGB...if so this is really bad for DGB the constant sell history does not give any encouragement for future investors...to see a full history of sells would only set the alarm bells ringing & turn them away in a flash
Rant over go go DGB Grin

Put it like that, and you get my attention. You're on to something, I can smell it. I don't have the time, but what I would do, if I were you and really wanted to know, is compare what we're seeing on Cryptsy with the actual blockchain. This might seem a bit tedious, and forensic like in nature, as you'll need to take into account confirmation time, but little else, so don't be overwhelmed . I suspect you'll find they don't match up (don't expect exact time stamp matches in any event, as these automated sells on deposit are batch processed - a close approximation in time is the best you'll be able to do, but there still won't be anything even close to a match, in terms of raw numbers, I'm sure). And just why someone might want to "masquerade" their selling would be the next question asked.

                 . . . I can't think of any good reason off hand, but that doesn't mean someone else can't.

On a side note, there are some huge buy walls at Cryptsy. What is going on with Bittrex? Volume has gone down quite a bit.

YC

Bittrex volume is down, meaning investors at bittrex are losing faith in DGB, not necessarily, because dumps also creates volume.
But now we see none of them at bittrex for a few days. Cryptsy is the major player for DGB, therefore you cannot identify this on cryptsy easily.

This all, unfortunately, tied up with news that will come from Jared. That is why I agree with what HR mentioned above.
But I guess Jared already has plans on this and waiting for the right time, since long term is the key here.

I am also here for the long term, therefore we have to be patient and wait for the full developments are done for DGB including that USD exchange, before we can do any advertisement for the long haul.
I could sell part of my DGBs that are nearly 20-25 millions, bought under 8 SAT for a profit of x2. But I won't because I believe in the future of DGB. Let others sell while price is moving further up, then you can be the guy holding a great value!

I think we can safely count on 200 SAT.  Wink

That's where I'll take my first profits . . . just something small to cover costs.  Smiley

Oh, yeah, I'd be another one who'd really love to know who Tiffany, Andrew and Tanner are! Man, can you imagine how much so little could really mean! Think of the milage just a couple of pictures and the introduction of the dev team, DigiPay execs, and China team members would get!

You know, TOP SECRET can be counterproductive if overdone.  Shocked
