1561  Economy / Economics / Re: Connect data to accelerate cashless payments on: August 15, 2023, 11:12:43 AM
Non-cash transactions are indeed getting easier and more popular, support from many places that accept cashless payments has made non-cash growth significantly increase, on the other hand, of course, non-cash transactions can avoid counterfeit money, theft crimes and so on, for the state of course this is getting easier to control circulating money.
It is true that cash payments will greatly facilitate transactions, but of the many current technological developments, of course there will be advantages and disadvantages, there is still a need for adjustments to local environmental conditions, such as in areas that do not yet have good internet network support, of course this cannot be done. because this will be a problem if the network suddenly encounters a problem when making a transaction.
You are right. There are various aspects that need to be considered with non-cash transactions. There are still places in various countries that either do not have stable internet to offer or have zero to low signal. Another factor is that not everyone has the capacity to buy smartphones with updated software that supports scanning QR codes and downloading e-payment applications. Lastly, there are still individuals who are tech-savvy enough to understand and follow steps in using e-payments for cashless transactions. Hence, as both options have their pros and cons, it is best if both are offered by merchants in terms of transactions.

I just noticed that there is a team named Made in Philippines in SEA qualifiers. It is the released roster of Xerxia and reformed as Made in Philippines. I do not know this team but I think I have to support it since I am from Philippines. Cheesy

One quick look and I noticed that the team isn't registered to Liquipedia all. Also, most of their players don't seem to be known to the majority of the Dota community so it remains to be seen whether they're someone who can go toe-to-toe against the current teams of SEA for the International.

1564  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] Mixin Safe - Decentralized Bitcoin Custody Solutions | Review Campaign on: August 14, 2023, 07:12:45 PM
First off, I did all the Mixin Messenger thing on a Mac, and used Mornin Keys on an Android device. Thought I should leave this here so that people should know that the apps still work smoothly regardless of the OS difference.

Downloading Mornin Keys

This is the first thing that I downloaded and saw that it will cost me a dollar to install. It's an efficient little confirmation tool that communicates most of the requests fairly quick. It's great that it also allows you to use the biometric security feature of your phone rather than having you input your password every time you change apps on your phone.

Preparing Mixin Wallet/Messenger

This one was fairly easy: the https://safe.mixin.zone/ page neatly displays a QR code and some pointers on why you should use Mixin Messenger. Everything was smooth leading to this point until I was hit by a road block:

I couldn't quite continue from where I left off after I tried creating a wallet. Little have I realized that the dock of the Mac was blocking whole "Next" button which will allow me to proceed to the next step. I wouldn't comment much on the placement of that little button but it will be a little better if that button was somewhere close on the "Network" tab. It took me a good 5 minutes to realize what the problem was, and I found it accidentally when I tried to switch between desktop and saw the blue button during the transition.

This is what it looks like without the dock. I know there's a lot of free real estate at the bottom of the page but then again..

Anyway, moving forward. Things were still going smoothly and I haven't noticed anything that will be a road block for a new user should they decide to use Mixin messenger. The next step requires one to confirm or 'authorize' the creation of a new safe by scanning the QR code through Mornin keys. Scanning takes a quick second and the authorization process went by quickly. This step only took me a minute to get past to.

This is the next step that you'll get once you have scanned the QR code displayed on the Mixin web app:

And this is what it should look like once Mornin keys recognized the QR code:

I know that people are used to apps that automatically authorizes things when they scanned a QR code. Note that Mornin keys does not do that, and you have to manually click the 'Authorize' button that appears on the floating window after the app recognizes the QR code.

Authorization takes a few seconds to complete, and the Mixin web app will automatically move to the next step once the authorization is done. This is what it looks like from Mornin keys and the Mixin web app at the same exact moment (I'm not exaggerating this):

Afterwards, you will be redirected to the third step which will ask you to upgrade your plan. I know, it sounds something that requires money again, but the prices are on the low side considering that you'll get something secure for all your transactions. For the basic plan, it costs around $2 which is a good price if you're looking to test whether Mixin Messenger is for you.

You have the option to add contacts wherein you can designate them to be one of the signature holders for a multi-sig safe. You are not required to add more than 1 signature holder for each safe you create, so I opt to stick with 1 on the above picture.

Once you have paid the amount indicated on the checkout page, you will then be greeted by this page:

You need to scan the QR code on your Mornin keys in order to finalize creating your safe. Once you have scanned the QR code in the webpage, the Mixin team will send you a message on the mobile app indicating that you have successfully created your safe.

The notifications, however, are not as instant as opposed to the confirmation back-and-forth between Mornin keys and the Mixin web app, but that's not an issue. After you have created the safe, you will be transported to the home page of the web app and you now have the option to view your safe.

For the purpose of this review, I have intentionally created a blank safe, or something that I haven't upgraded the plan of to check how it looks like if you have a pending safe creation. It's neat that they thought of saving your progress on every safe you have not finished as you have the option to delete them or continue them as you like - whether you are waiting for a new contact to create their own Mixin messenger for you to add them as a signatory in one of your multi-sig wallet. Whatever the case is, your progress is there right where you left off.

Sending a transaction

Now these next few steps aren't complicated, too. If you're using any typical wallet for the last few months/years, the processes are the same.

1. Choose which safe you're going to use the funds from the transaction.

2. Input the address of the receiver you're going to send the funds to. You can just use the old copy and paste trick to complete this step. No QR codes involved here as I'm using the Mac web app version.

3. You will have to open your Mixin messenger and scan a QR code after hitting the Approve button on the lower part of the screen. The page also shows you the members required to authorize the transaction that are involved in the creation of the safe. It's a neat way of showing who needs to sign what. Members of the safe will also get a notification that they need to sign or authorize something.

Again, not hating on the web design. I know it's placed there due to the amount of white space on the bottom part of the page, but it would be easier if they placed it somewhere near where most of the details on the transaction are placed.

This is the QR code you will have to scan on the app:

4. Once that's done, the blue Approve button will turn gray:

5. You will be transported to the last part of the transaction. You will have to use Mornin keys in order to authorize the whole thing that you just did in Mixin messenger. It's a nice way of making sure that the transaction is extra secure, and that no one who might have access to your Mixin messenger can complete the transaction themselves. An extra layer of security is always welcome.

Oh and did I mention that it's neat that they have the QR code changing every second? This is the first time that I saw something like this, tbh. Great use of that existing tech!

6. The following image is what will appear on your Mornin keys once you have scanned the changing QR code. Again, you will have to manually approve the whole thing by clicking the 'Approve' button on the floating window:

And you're done! All you have to do is sit back and relax, wait for the confirmations to fill, and then check your receiving address if you got the btc.

Some key takeaways:

  • Extra layers of security before having a transaction finalized is pretty neat.
  • Communication between Mornin Keys and Mixin Messenger and its web app is really, really quick.
  • Positioning of some buttons on the web app can be optimized for better readability. It would be a problem for users that have big screens as they would have to look further before proceeding to the next step.
  • There are tons of back-and-forth between different apps, so it's better to have two devices if you want your transaction to be as smooth as possible, but it's not a necessity.

Conclusion

If you are just a normal user who occasionally sends or receives bitcoins and YOU'RE NOT running a business, I don't see a point in using Mixin messenger. But, if you're someone who values security and always wants to feel secure with your every transaction, then this is for you. Given that nowadays, there are tons of snooping bots, malware, and other similar software existing that aims to get your crypto from you, Mixin Messenger blocks those attempts and lets you transact in peace.

Lastly, please fix that 'Approve' button, Mixin team.
1565  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Paano Ka Ba Manghikayat o Mag educate Sa Mga Kababayan Natin on: August 14, 2023, 05:15:25 PM

1566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin really not for everyone? on: August 14, 2023, 04:42:22 PM
It’s for everyone but not “everyone” can be pleased or appreciate Bitcoin as we all are having different opinions, insights, criticisms, etc., about it.

Like my own uncle. Although he acknowledged Bitcoin, but he does not like it. I didn’t even convinced him to explore Bitcoin and the crypto world.

One time, his daughter (my cousin) shared to me that she wanted to get in to Bitcoin, but the problem is that she listened to her father’s advice about being against it due to high risks.

But my dad? It took him years (didn’t convinced him) until he suddenly talked to me about buying Bitcoin and I educated him about the risks. And you know what? He acknowledged and decided to buy some of his little money to BTC and hold it. I only guided him about the basics of crypto wallets, depositing BTC, etc.
Of course everyone has a different point of view and I don't blame those who don't like Bitcoin like your uncle, maybe he avoided too much risk so he decided not to get into Bitcoin.
And your father, maybe he also has a very different perspective from your uncle and also sees a promising future, but I think your father is a smart person who wants to get into Bitcoin even though you have explained the big risk.

The point is I think, this bitcoin can be for everyone, be it trading or investing, this can cover all people because we can buy Bitcoin with only a few dollars.

It is for everyone with the capacity to trade and invest. However, it is not accepted by everyone due to the risks and their lack of knowledge regarding bitcoin and the system. It's like it is open for everyone but not everyone will have the interest to dive into it, not because it is not out there for them but because they either have no money for it or they just don't want to. It's honestly as simple as that.
1567  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How useful is Bitcoin to the youth? on: August 14, 2023, 04:18:20 PM
Bitcoin is a great opportunity for young people the future will be many things if you can invest properly by learning about bitcoin. Currently many unemployed youth will learn a lot about the crypto market and find a source of income by investing in bitcoin. That the knowledge is a little more at a young age, one should use the skills and move forward on the basis of one's own experience. Therefore, understanding the market movements is the best way to practice Bitcoin and understand the market better.
how can young people invest in Bitcoin if they have no income or are unemployed?
Bitcoin does open opportunities for anyone to benefit. but not for those who do not have capital. at least today's young people have a better understanding of how Bitcoin forms a market that is of concern to more people who want to profit.
that mindset will later form the habit of investing in Bitcoin when they have money from their work.

Unless they sell their skills like services and get paid with Bitcoin, you are right. No matter how knowledgeable you are and how much you learn, if you don't have money, it is still useless. You'll need money to start investing in Bitcoin and apply what you learn so that you'll be able to earn a profit. Though what is really advantageous to youth right now is that they are already technology-aware and can somewhat easily learn and earn,

The funny thing however is that the youth of this generation have money. They are so invested in the idea and goal of attaining financial freedom that they are earning money from part-time work and freelance gigs even at a young age. From this, they can choose to invest in Bitcoin with the knowledge they have which is a very smart thing to do. See, what we need to see is that unlike before the drive of the youth to earn is in an all-time high as they also feel inflation hence the need to earn for their personal needs and be financially stable is as strong as ever.
1568  Economy / Economics / Re: Real estate vs cryptocurrencies vs business on: August 14, 2023, 03:56:54 PM

Which one would you choose from these and why?

Since there is only one choice I'll pick Cryptocurrency when it comes to making a profit its vital that you know the in and out of your choice, there's a significant risk in Cryptocurrency but if you understand the market and you know what to look on a right coin or token to invest you can make a good profit.
I've been into Cryptocurrency for several years I have seen the ups and downs you can counter the downs and make a good opportunity in the bull market based on my experience and maybe with that money I can also set up a business that is related to Cryptocurrency, there is much business that you can think of that revolves around Cryptocurrency.

This is the first time someone brought up about businesses regarding cryptocurrency which is a good thing. The other answers were also revolving around investments, but it seems like we centralized on it too much that we forgot that there are other businesses that can be pulled from cryptocurrency. This is a good point as it shows that there are other actions or ways that can be done around this area that will bring more profit despite the risks it provides.
1569  Economy / Economics / Re: The future of Farming. on: August 14, 2023, 01:02:40 PM
If we want to make a business then the best thing is in agriculture, the price of agricultural materials which continues to increase is a good opportunity that the future of agricultural products will always increase, moreover more and more agricultural land is lost or changing its function so that opportunities and competition in agriculture are very promising .
It's true, the agricultural sector is always needed to support human life in terms of food, especially now that agricultural land is getting narrower along with the need for housing. and of course the need for human food cannot be avoided, therefore the defense sector is increasingly important, and must increase in terms of quality and quantity, in line with the increasingly advanced human mindset in terms of hygiene and the increasing number of people

That is really the problem because people also need housing, and we know that the agricultural sector before turned into housing as most of the farmers sold it off because it got too expensive to plant crops. We should really support the agricultural sector mostly right now that those fertilizers are getting expensive and the price right now is also too high when buying raw foods, and the biggest problem is that those farmers are mostly not getting any profit as they sell it off cheap but when it arrives in the market it gets expensive.
The welfare of farmers is indeed often ignored by the government of a country, in fact the purchase price of agricultural products is also regulated by government policies, almost no farmers are rich so they seem to cut the ropes of this work for their children in the future.
Problems like this can only be overcome with policies implemented by the government.
But the rest for entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector or farmers is still quite effective to do, it doesn't promise many benefits but I think technically there is almost no risk because agricultural needs are always needed by humans.

What is also affecting the welfare of the farmers are those who keep buying their lands for such a small amount and then hiring them to work as farmers, after that they will only give such small payments to the hardworking farmers. Some of those land buyers, on the other hand, transform the lands into subdivisions or commercial facilities making it difficult for both farmers and the general public to have access to food as more and more agricultural space are being bought.
1570  Economy / Economics / Re: Am I a bad person if I manage to avoid taxes? (Hypothetical question) on: August 14, 2023, 12:42:34 PM
Certainly you are. Why would a good person do that? Once you become a legal resident of a country, you should know when to respect and follow rules and laws. And by simply avoiding paying your tax, just because you feel that you are being taken advantage and you are robbed off from your own hard-earned money, I believe the state will automatically see you as the worst character because instead of helping for the welfare of the country and its citizens, you chose to break it and make your own law instead.
Well, it honestly depends on what your definition of good is. Perhaps what he did is unlawful but is it necessarily bad if he was able to avoid it because the government was not being secured enough or smart enough with their system to detect who pays taxes and who doesn't? Is being selfish necessarily bad? If he chooses to keep his/her money rather than contribute it to the welfare of the country? See, OP used the term good which does not have a precise definition. Is his/her actions bad or it is the outcome of his/her action that makes OP bad? Well, of course, that is all philosophical and ethical talk. I guess the more proper term to state is unlawful. It is unlawful and selfish if OP avoids paying taxes.
1571  Economy / Economics / Re: What could Elon Musk be buying next? on: August 14, 2023, 12:09:23 PM
I don't know why, but Elon doesn't seem to me such a cool genius as he was a year ago. Too many strange facts began to appear about him in the press. For example, data from Twitter's top managers that even though he inspires interesting ideas, his board is very authoritarian. Ilon does not listen to anyone but himself, and thus misses a lot of adequate and profitable ideas for organization and production. Regarding the topic itself, I believe that with so many enterprises, he needs his own energy source. Therefore, I think that he will buy up power stations.
I have also been seeing a lot of news or probably hearsay about Elon Musk lately. Perhaps due to his activeness on X (used to be Twitter) he is starting to gather more and more attention on his social life and attitude, as many celebrities and public figures often have when they start putting more of themselves out on there. However, I think Elon's interest in AI will be more prevalent this year and he will focus there are more and more updates and developments being done in that field. Or perhaps he will focus on getting more shares and buying more social media platforms cause he is seriously having a good time rebranding Twitter to X.
1572  Economy / Economics / Re: Big companies will never let you have the financial freedom on: August 14, 2023, 11:34:05 AM
-snip-
But about financial freedom is not about this. But about financial stability in the long term without worrying about lack of money to meet all needs. Concerning centralized and uncentred actually everything remains the same as before.
Well, that is the point I tried to convey on the first page. I think people adapted to a centralized financial system a long time ago and in fact many people achieved their financial freedom before decentralized solutions came to the forefront of the online industry.

If we pay attention, indeed these two systems are increasingly being compared for and against, and can be used as an excuse for someone's failure while there are more factors causing it, one only needs to do a deeper evaluation than just looking at one side.
every system development, of course, has positives and negatives from that system, sometimes people are more comfortable using the conventional method because it has been done for a long time, and when a new system emerges, they are reluctant to leave their comfort zone when replaced with the new system, so many of them oppose and look for weaknesses in a system, even though if used properly it will be able to help the development of the business they are running

Of course, there is the risk factor after all. The risk of not knowing the system and being clueless as to what it does and may do affects the reaction or initial feedback of the people. More specifically when it comes to financial aspects, you cannot expect people to just go out of their comfort zone and risk their hard-earned money for something they are clueless about. In most occasions, the general public would prefer an already established system rather than a new innovative one due to trust. Perhaps if the systems gets more and more good feedbacks then maybe more people will try and risk it.
1573  Economy / Economics / Re: Elon Musk and the fall of Twitter on: August 14, 2023, 11:05:37 AM
I think he did not spend a lot of money only for destroying something that he bought. Until now, I only see that twitter that we called X is become something that become trendy again. Buying Twitter is good decision because it has so many users and controlling this platform can give benefits to the owners. If I have something like twitter then I will maximize it for free advertisement for me, so my product will easily sold out.

Of course, Elon Musk is a businessman so I'm sure he did not just buy Twitter (now referred to as X) to waste money. I'm sure he has plans to maximize the platform he bought. However, X's popularity is low now compared to the then status of Twitter wherein a lot of users are active and maximizing the platform's features. As for advertisement, a lot of merchants prefer using Instagram for it, specifically the story feature of the platform wherein they can easily and effectively advertise through pictures and videos, you will see that most brands are more active there. I think Elon Musk is trying to rebrand Twitter, as X feels more chic and sophisticated compared to the old look of the social media platform.

Didn't have the patience to read your wall of text except for this last part which cracked me up. Did you even bother doing your research before posting these absurd statements shill? I doubt it.

Go check their negative trust ratings carefully and you will understand(If you have a brain) that several victims were scammed of thousands of bucks.

Do not even bother to try to reason with someone who is likely a shill. They may not even know they definition of selective scam or selective fraud. It is all about trying to keep having some of the alleged legitimacy while at the same time abusing of your power as a casino to steal people off their money through as much time as possible and stalling victims into exhaustion until they give up and stop trying to contact "customer service".

It is the same story every time a victim shows up here asking for any kind of help.

A quick google search about 1xbit and it will already show a lot of 'scam' words tagged to the casino. I wonder why people still don't bother doing a quick search on things they want to put their money on. I understand that not a lot of people want to deal with forums in this day and age but man, why would they come to it and ask for help when they already got their money stolen?

Sometimes, I don't understand the human logic at all.
1575  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Technology is Changing Sports Betting on: August 13, 2023, 09:50:17 PM
I don't get why a lot of people are really amazed on how AIs can do things. Without human touch and input, AIs will not function to a human's liking and would be more of a liability than a tool. In sports betting, those who are versed in the game are more likely to do better decision-making than an AI who can only crunch numbers that is fed on to it by a human or another machine. AIs can do a lot of cool things in terms of automated betting, but I wouldn't depend on it 100% to bet on my behalf in sports.

Your viewpoint is one that I share. It's important to keep in mind that while AI can accomplish some amazing things, it still requires human direction and data input in order to work properly. AI, which mostly processes data it is provided, is typically outperformed by human skill and intuition in decision-making in industries like sports betting. Even though automated systems might be helpful tools, relying only on them might not produce the greatest results, especially in complicated circumstances where contextual awareness is important.

I've seen automated machines and software fail their simple tasks in time. What's the difference of that with automated betting machines? Even scripts with simple instructions break over time when they encounter something that is not within their instruction set or parameters. AIs are great tools when combined with human touch. Until then, I'd stick to manual betting, or if I use an AI or something automated, I'll get on top of it and make sure that everything runs as I expect it to be.
1576  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Who you betting on? on: August 13, 2023, 09:33:09 PM
I read Elon's tweets earlier saying that ONE or UFC wouldn't be allowed to organize this bout between him and Zuck. That doesn't sound right to me, as Elon's nor Zuck's camp aren't centered in anything related to fighting sports. It's obvious that it should be these two MMA organizations handle this fight, but apparently Elon doesn't want it to be that way and wants to make it about him and not about the sport. Even I couldn't believe that I'm rooting for Mark on this fight should it ever happen. He's constantly training and grinding to get better at the sport, while Elon just enjoys the publicity and doesn't seem to put in the hours and the work at all.

Looks like Elon is taking it too long so that he can take advantage of the exposure this controversy has I agree that Elon enjoys the publicity.  I do not think the fight will go on until it happens.  It is really a big disadvantage for Elon if this fight ever happens due to the age gap.  Elon has lots of stiff bones now and probably stiff muscles so I wonder how he can defeat the younger opponent.

This "fight" was never going to happen from the start.  You're right though, Elon would get his ass kicked, even if Mark Zuckerberg is a huge nerd, he's sizably younger.  I would still love to see this fight happen just because I dislike these two so much, seeing each other being punched in the face repeatedly is something that I could find some humor in lol.

Not only that, but Zuck is really a trained martial artist from the start. The dude might be nerdy and creepy but he got chops - literally.

Elon could stall this fight and milk whatever juice he can milk from the publicity they are receiving, but it will eventually die down. I'm sure he's just using the attention to promote something, or even let some issues die that concerns his companies. Whatever the case is, Elon is a huge pussy for not being a man of his word. He challenged Zuck, but doesn't seem to be all serious about it.
1577  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A weird belief among some gamblers. on: August 13, 2023, 08:29:52 PM
lol I don't really understand how you found this hard to believe. People are fucking weird, and they do all sorts of odd things, and being superstitious about their gambling habits is really far from one of the more outrageous things that people tend to do.

Personally for me, I would be annoyed at some random person asking about my bets. It really isn't anyone's business, so just out of privacy concerns I'd probably tell them to buzz off too.

With how outrageous people can be, being superstitious in gambling is the least thing I'll ever worry about. There are people offering literally all sorts of weird and crazy things to whatever god they worship to just to win something. With that said, I still wouldn't let other people see my bets. I don't want to be on the receiving end of blame if they even copied my bets.

I find it wise when businessmen decided to approach this kind of method because they are like hitting two birds with one stone because they are not only getting bitcoins easily from their customers, but they also promote bitcoin to others with little effort because others that are seeing the sign might become curious and will ask the owner or event search for bitcoins in order to know the truth about it, not just from mainstream media that are always hostile against bitcoins throughout this year. Nevertheless, we need to be the ones to explain to the people about bitcoins in order to clear every doubt and give them a chance to learn the real bitcoins from the right sources.
This method is believed to be able to spread bitcoin adoption to a wider area, where many people will ask how to make transactions every time they want to use bitcoin as a means of payment. The stigma of bitcoin as a fraud or something like that will disappear in the minds of ordinary people because there are many people who have used bitcoin payment methods around their homes. This move is believed to be a way that can create widespread adoption and one way to collect bitcoins for people who have accepted bitcoins in their business.

But there are also things that need to be considered if the country where Op lives is not friendly to bitcoin or the government prohibits using anything other than fiat for transaction processing. Even if we insist on using it, we will be faced with the law which will result in a big risk for ourselves, cases like this are intended for countries that legally use bitcoin as a valid transaction tool. It is this rule that might limit us from using bitcoin as a transaction tool in the business we are in, because people think they will get in trouble if they continue to force it.
Good points. I was also thinking of those risks as it will not only put Bitcoin users in danger but the store as well, at least against the law. It may spread the knowledge and existence of Bitcoin but there is a relative hard from that as well. We should weight the pros and cons properly to know the right actions.
