They're not serious about shipping till they request FPGA trade-in customers send their gear in, and as far as I know that hasn't happened yet.

Talk is cheap.

Pretty sure the guy with the batch 3 Avalon pre-order will have his unit paid for before someone ordering this week from BFL receives anything...and as to power consumption...I've toyed with the idea of putting Radeon 4850s back to work hashing at this exchange rate and $.08/KwH. ASICMiner is paying the equivalent of $.25 for power on 130nm chips and I think they're doing ok profit wise with their 6.5Th. Power consumption does not matter right now and by the time it is important there'll likely be more options available. Time to delivery is what matters and BFL's competition has beaten them soundly.

BFL should just ship whatever they have that doesn't explode as soon as it's plugged in.
1564  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Them BFL Cowboys on: March 29, 2013, 06:15:28 AM

How did the production projection go down from 500 a day to 300 units per day?

Regarding whether we are a scam or not, the several thousand shipped units can speak for itself. We've used the experience gained in mass production
of our singles in our SC production cycle (we've got a MyData Pick-And-Place and an Oven for high-speed and high-volume inhouse assembly). Someone
mentioned the backlog is already 5,000. On a production speed of 500 units a day for instance, 5,000 will only take 10 days. We've already prepared the
infratructue for very high volume production, since the great portion of the orders will come in after the SC is released to the public. 5,000 units is not much
compared to orders we expect to receive after SC release, so we're very ready for it.

I hope this message has addressed some of your questions.

Regards,
Nasser

What is Nasser's full name?

LOL.  He is calling the gear Kano photographed "high-speed and high-volume inhouse assembly".  LMAO.

Notice he carefully he says nothing.

"Someone mentioned the backlog is already 5,000"  - he isn't saying what the backlog actually is, he's just citing 'someone'.  Maybe it's 50,000.  He doesn't commit himself to anything.  Probably they don't even know since their order system is such a disaster.

"On a production speed of 500 units a day for instance, 5,000 will only take 10 days. We've already prepared the
infratructue for very high volume production, since the great portion of the orders will come in after the SC is released to the public."

Again, notice that 500 / day is a for instance, not a statement of what they can do.

These guys are so full of crap.  Tomorrow they are going to desperately try to stem the tide of refund requests before they go bankrupt.  I suggest anyone who can think for themselves consider if they want to try to get their money back before or after insolvency.

They pull those word games constantly and it's very disturbing. To someone casually reading the statement "We've scheduled shipments for October" it appears to read "We will ship in October", but it doesn't mean the same thing. Their statements are similar to those you get from banksters, they're inefficiently worded and it's done intentionally so that the statements mean nothing.

Thanks for the input fellas, you all make valid points. My thinking was simply that we already have ASICs on the way and still have ample reserves. There's just nothing to spend them on ATM that makes sense long term. I suggested a relatively small fixed dividend amount so as to stabilize our yield without significantly reducing our reserves...about .04BTC/day currently. Seems the concept is less popular than I'd have guessed.

I also am fine with the decreasing dividend as I am aware of the upgrade path already.  If you were to find a great deal on a GPU or FPGA for now wouldn't be a terrible thing to use a small amount on, but it would have to be a screaming deal or in the GPU dept, something easily resellable.

I've considered that as well. With the large gain in the exchange rate GPUs are very much profitable again. We'd likely have little trouble seeing a positive ROI if we purchased a few 7950s that could be converted to LTC mining later. Frankly I'm not too keen on the idea of managing more GPUs at this point, but we could potentially sell some of our older less power efficient GPUs and replace them with more efficient better performing 7950s.

As our daily yield continues to decline with each increase in difficulty without a corresponding increase in hashing power, I'm considering a motion that would change our daily dividend to a fixed yield rather than the 70% of mining revenue it is in the original contract(changed to 100% by shareholder vote) until our batch 2 Avalon arrives. The company has reserves of 424BTC so I think we'll remain well prepared for whatever scenarios unfold in the foreseeable future. Since the company was originally structured with a Dec/Jan BTCFPGA equipment delivery date timeline I think it's appropriate to return a portion of the funds raised to shareholders. So I propose the following:

Currently
Current IPO share  price = .37
Last daily dividend = 0.17026836
Last daily dividend APY = 7.8326235%

Proposed
Current IPO share  price = .37
Fixed daily dividend = .2174
Daily dividend APY = 10.0007562%

Then when we receive our first Avalon both this motion(should it pass) and the motion that increased dividends from 70% to 100% of mining revenue would be reversed and we'd return to the terms of the original contract.

Thoughts? This seems like a win win for shareholders, but I don't like surprises in my investments and I doubt I'm alone in this.

Burnside, please stop spamming the AM thread. I don't buy merchandise from email spammers and support them, and I will not be supporting forum spammers either. You have a thread, post it in.

He answered a question in the thread about btct.  Why are you so ornery?

+1

With the huge investment opportunity that ASICMiner continues to represent, we need as much liquidity as possible, and the exchange PT shares are certainly providing that.

Interesting news, thanks for the update friedcat.
1569  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: advertising budget of BFL on: March 28, 2013, 03:19:49 AM
The truth is that they are spending money to get more newbies sucked in their preorder scheme. With already at least 20k preorders in the backlog and without even a working prototype. It's a shame.

It's more than just a shame, it's a crime.

http://business.ftc.gov/documents/alt051-selling-internet-prompt-delivery-rules

But you're not paying that much attention to the drama, right?

That's correct Mr. sockpuppet. If I were unfortunate enough to have placed an order with the BFL crooks, I'd really be upset with them.
1570  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What's BFL's game? There hasn't been an update since the 15/Mar/2013 on: March 28, 2013, 03:00:55 AM
Does anyone know for sure (no trolling please) what BFL's game is?
There hasn't been an update for over a week now.
Do their chips work? Have they even tested the chips on the board(s)?
It is very odd that there has been no news at all since they tool delivery of the ASICs?

Surely by now, there would be some news about their testing?

Of course, delivery dates will be better.

Read between the lines, or in this case, lack of lines.

Get your refund before the race to the exits causes the whole building to fall down.

Words of wisdom. I suggest you heed them.

Why does BFL's CEO have the same name and is from this same HUGE city as a convicted fraudster?

I can answer this one at least definitively. This is due to the fact that Sonny Vleisides, an officer at BFL, is in fact the very same convicted thief and has admitted as much publicly...just search. Course BFL in typical BFL fashion did not voluntarily admit this until confronted. Occasionally one BFL mouthpiece or another denies that Sonny is currently their CEO and I believe they claim Nasser is now, but I don't follow this ridiculous drama as closely as I did when I was actually considering an order with them.

There are liars and convicted thieves in positions of authority at butterfly labs. Caveat emptor.

You seem to have posted a strong criticism for "not follow[ing] this ridiculous drama".

This drama has been unfolding for months bud, none of this is new. Really, just do a search, you can read all about it at your leisure and make your own call. I've made mine.

Precisely my point. We all know your opinion, so why continue trolling threads about it?
Just because someone says something that goes against your current beliefs/feelings doesnt mean theyre trolling. he is stating facts, not trolling.

I don't believe I stated an opinion one way or the other, but the rabid sentiment against is getting old fast. Was simply pointing out the dichotomy between his word and action, by quoting him out of context.

There ya go buddy, FTFY.

My account wasn't created two weeks ago like yours was. This stuff is common knowledge to those of us that make it their business to keep up on the goings on of mining hardware vendors. I also keep an eye on ASICMiner and Avalon threads, and while there was something to monitor I also watched BTCFPGA threads. So what? This *IS* a BTC forum after all, and this *IS* the mining speculation sub-forum.

Clearly, my bitcointalk.org account age dictates my depth of knowledge. You sir, win the internet. Congratulations.

Thanks. Please in the future always capitalize when referring to my Internet.

1574  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Beef with BFL (Constructive Criticism Only) on: March 27, 2013, 04:05:55 PM
Off topic: I like how this thread went to shit after, like, 4 posts. Though I suppose that's to be expected..

On topic:
I have no doubt that they're working on developing some "top tier" tech (compared to everything else coming / already out). My biggest qualms come from the blatant dispersion of misinformation and lack of solid evidence.

After everything that we've seen so far and the difficulties BFL has run into, there's no way they would have actually shipped in 2012..and my guess is that they very well knew that. Essentially they create intricate company timelines as to how everything will proceed, but consistently fail to take Murphy's Law into account during it all.

Their general incompetence was pretty clear when they put Josh in charge of PR. If you're representing a company and trying to create positive public relations, there's absolutely no reason to go about trolling. A PR person should be able to let insults roll off, like "water on a duck's back". Simple as that.

I don't think the thread went to shit exactly, that won't happen until Josh shows up. There's a whole lot of anger being directed at BFL and justifiably so, they've caused damage that extends to those that didn't even order from them IMO. I believe we have to get past this notion that their delays are caused by incompetence. While I've said the same thing myself in the past, in hindsight, I think it's pretty clear that they just want everyone to believe they're incompetent. Seriously, there's no way Josh could have believed there was any chance whatsoever that BFL would be able to ship a finished ASIC product before 12/31/2012 when he routinely implied as much in early and mid December. He's done the same thing over and over. There's simply no way. Josh is many things, but he's not dumb. When did they set up their new facility again?

At this point I'd like someone to explain to me like I'm five how there's any chance at all that BFL didn't deliberately dismantle the FPGA market and cause a whole lot of people to lose mining revenue by making what in hindsight were awful decisions based on misinformation supplied by BFL to support their blatantly premature ASIC announcement. I believe they had a very limited supply of FPGA chips and when their source dried up they concocted this elaborate scheme to damage their competitors and gain the upper hand in the future ASIC mining market. They very plainly had next to nothing done in fall of 2012, yet they consistently pretended as though they could be ready to ship at any time. This isn't tomfoolery, or shenanigans, it's fraud. They've cost people a lot of money with their market manipulation games.

You're obviously bright Korbman, and I know you have BFL orders, can you explain to me where I'm wrong here?

...also as to Josh specifically and his PR job, I think he's done an absolutely masterful job of isolating and attacking any and all outspoken outliers here. If someone asks tough questions about BFL, particularly about their financial solvency, Inaba nearly always shows up and begins with the verbal assault. Shortly there after the thread is moved to the "troll museum" or newbies begin to attack Josh's target like a string of over protective groupies. Think about his comments about how a few posters here allegedly increase BFL sales by asking tough questions about BFL. That stuff is brilliant because it sticks with people and plants a seed of doubt in their minds.

Sorry Dalkore, it isn't my intent to thread crap. This response may be better suited for the scam accusation sub.

2006 Mazda 3 iTouring, 140k, Auto, Black Cloth, moon roof, gentex auto dimming mirror, alloy wheels, in dash 6 disc
A beautiful car. It's silver and has a few minor dings, but has been meticulously maintained(full service record available). I'm the second owner, my fiance' bought the car new and commuted from home to work & back every day(100miles highway).

My only gripe with the car is the new tires she got on it right before we met make too much road noise, though they're great tires in every other regard.

Not in any kind of hurry to sell, but it's just another car in the garage and it doesn't get driven much. The lady just leased a 2013 Mazda 3.

1579  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon - Batch #3 pricing on: March 26, 2013, 09:10:08 PM
The pricing seems to have increased dramatically compared to the 1st and 2nd batches. 1200, 1500, and currently ~5300+. It seems to be a very large jump, but if you have had the coin, then you can justify the cost.

You've got to think of it in BTC, not USD.  Batch 1 was like ~125BTC, Batch 2 was ~77 BTC, Batch 3 ~ 75BTC.  They're getting cheaper.

You're paying BTC to mine BTC to use in a BTC economy.  Don't value the BTC as USD and it's not a problem.

yah, but the BTC economy isn't north korea

how about i sell you one of my 5830's for 5 btc?  that's cheaper than they were 6 months ago

Where your argument fails is that anyone can buy a vastly superior spankin' new GPU that whoops a 5830 for 4BTC. See?

Not so much with the ASIC mining unit competition.

Good answer:

Wrong PT, this is BTCT.CO. Check here:

Better answer:

Use btct.co in the first place and you don't have to deal with weexchange.   Grin
