1561  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum keeps synchronising on: June 16, 2017, 02:08:41 PM
you are using the ethereum version of electrum?
1562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: are 2 USB drives really needed for tails? on: June 16, 2017, 09:13:43 AM
right but somehow using two makes it untraceable? If i'm just browsing through darkwebmarkets and using secure wallets should installing it using 1 usb drive be enough?

when you write the tails iso to a disk it uses the entire disk. so you need a second one for persistent storage. persistent storage could also be on your hard drive. it's encrypted so placing on your HDD is not a problem.
1563  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unconfirmed Transaction - Electrum on: June 15, 2017, 06:38:40 AM
CPFP is the solution to your problem. Use that feature. Follow this guide:

1564  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unconfirmed Transaction 24 hours and 10 hours on: June 15, 2017, 06:37:43 AM
There is no reason to contact random people. The solution can be found in electrum itself:

1565  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 2.8.3 Not Responding After Closing on: June 14, 2017, 03:45:52 AM
You should sweep your private keys instead of importing them:

1566  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Backing up an Electrum wallet on: June 14, 2017, 03:43:40 AM
Electrum is a deterministic wallet which means that all address specific private keys are derived from one single master private  key which in turn is derived from a seed. That means all the addresses in your wallet past, present, future, receiving or change can be recovered with a one time backup of your wallet file and/or seed.
Unless, as in the OPs case... there is no seed and his wallet is NOT an HD wallet... Roll Eyes seriously, people need to start actually reading threads all the way through before jumping in at the end with advice that is wrong...

Sorry I didn't read that. OP would be well advised to create a deterministic wallet using file > new/restore and then sweep his private key. This way he can take advantage of the features of deterministic wallets.

However it would mean that money sent in future to the address associated with that private key will not show up in his deterministic wallet. He will have to sweep that private key again in order to get that money. So if for whatever reason he can't stop using that address then it probably isn't practical for him to do this (sure he could switch between wallets with file > open but that might be confusing).
1567  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to backup an Electrum Wallet on: June 14, 2017, 03:38:29 AM
Thank you all for your input...I just want to be SURE that I understand. Just save my seed and password. So consequently, if anything happens to my
computer. I can download a new Electrum wallet and bring up my seed and password from my damaged computer???  Just a scenerio to determine how this tactic would play out...I hope to hear from you soon....

I've explained it in detail here:

1568  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Backing up an Electrum wallet on: June 13, 2017, 04:09:59 PM
Is it enough to back up my Electrum wallet file once if I disable change addresses?

Electrum is a deterministic wallet which means that all address specific private keys are derived from one single master private  key which in turn is derived from a seed. That means all the addresses in your wallet past, present, future, receiving or change can be recovered with a one time backup of your wallet file and/or seed. You can make a backup of the wallet file via file menu > save copy.

To clarify to recover access to your bitcoins you need one of the following:

a) wallet file + password (if any)

OR

b) seed mnemonics (12 words)

I don't recommend disabling change addresses. It does you no good. It is bad for your privacy and the privacy of people you deal with.
1569  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet Question on: June 13, 2017, 12:39:33 AM
Thanks.

Do i click on standalone executable or windows installer when downloading on the windows version?

If you were a new user I'd suggest that you always use the installer. But you are not. What did you use when you installed electrum before? Download the same one again. If you don't remember then see if you have shortcuts to electrum in your start menu. The installer creates those while the standalone executable does not.
1570  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Problem with btc, dont recev/ied on: June 11, 2017, 12:56:13 AM
The sequence you sent is called the address. Would you share that with us? Note that if you do so we will be able to see details regarding that transaction. We can't get at your bitcoins though. It is a privacy risk only.
1571  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Endless synchronization on: June 11, 2017, 12:46:53 AM
You could try restoring your wallet from seed. You can grab the seed from wallet menu > seed in case you don't already have it written down. Then go to file > new/restore to begin the process. Use file menu > open to open specific wallet files.

Also can you tell me how many addresses are in your wallet file? Is it in the dozens or hundreds?
1572  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Really need help - cannot access my Electrum Wallet - Electrum Error on: June 11, 2017, 12:43:23 AM
Ok thanks, didn't know this. But that also means I can never give anyone or use myself this Bitcoin address to transfer shares for more than once, right? So I cannot always send BTC to the same address, I always have to look it up before sending to see what's the new address?

Of course you can. Addresses don't stop working. Not ever. If you want to use the same address over and over again then by all means do so. Understand that it is bad for your privacy but if you don't care about that then you can do it.

You can see the full list  of receiving addresses on the addresses tab which is hidden by default. Go to wallet menu > addresses to bring it into view.

Correct.  It is best.

No it is not correct. If he wants to he can reuse addresses. It's not good to do so but nothing prevents him from doing so.

Question, if I give my Electrum BTC Adress to someone to send me BTC, after the TX the Adress is changing as you say. What happens if someone sends more BTC to the address before? Will these coins be on this address but I can't get these?

As I've already said above you can continue to use any and all receiving addresses in your wallet as many times as you like. That includes old addresses. Your wallet will watch all those addresses, your wallet balance will reflect transactions involving all those addresses and when you go to spend money it will draw on coins sent to all those addresses.
1573  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Recommended Fee & Slider on: June 10, 2017, 07:21:48 PM
What is the recommended network fee and how to know it as it changes daily?

When you select dynamic fees electrum looks up the fees automatically and uses them. You should let it do that and not worry about tx fees or you'll end up with stuck transactions.
1574  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can i backup multi-sig? on: June 10, 2017, 07:17:53 PM
If I make a 2-of-3 multisig wallet, backup all seeds. Can i restore all wallets from seeds on new devices?
Is this work like in simple not multisig wallet?
thanks
Yes. Multisig wallets are created from normal seeds. Multisig just requires the master public key of n seeds in n-of-m configuration. The seeds are used to sign the transaction that can be generated from it.

The seeds that it is generated from is a normal P2PKH wallet.

It requires n master private keys or seeds not n master public keys. You can't sign transactions with the master public key. At a minimum you will need n seeds (or master private keys) + the master public key of the remaining wallet(s).

1576  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: seed phrase is showing on my wallet on: June 10, 2017, 07:08:07 PM
Go to Wallet>Password. You can set a password there. Your seed will not be encrypted but your wallet file and your seed dialog can be.

When you set a password the seed is always encrypted. That's the whole point of setting a password.

Optionally you can select "Encrypt wallet file" on the password dialog box to encrypt the whole wallet file. If you do that you won't even be able to view your wallet's transactions until you enter the password.
1577  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Endless synchronization on: June 10, 2017, 07:05:13 PM
Switch to another electrum server via tools menu > network. Another thing you can try is upgrading to the latest version of electrum if you are using an older version.
1578  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Best practice when testing seed rebuild. on: June 10, 2017, 07:03:07 PM
The master public key has nothing to do with it. You would just run electrum and follow the on-screen prompts to restore from seed. When it asks for the wallet type you select 2fa wallet. If you ever need to start the process over again you go to file menu > new/restore.
1579  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How can I import password-protected backup from Multibit to Electrum? on: June 09, 2017, 06:10:10 PM
How can I import my password-protected backup address that I created from Multibit to Electrum and spend it?

1. I don't want to sweep it.
2. I don't want to send from Multibit to Electrum.
3. I understand the address will not be part of Electrum's seed.
4. I don't want to use any intermediary like blockchain.info wallet to import my backup.
5. I understand I bear all the risks.

Just tell me how can I import my password-protected backup addresses that I created from Multibit to Electrum and be able to spend them through Electrum.

I expect Electrum to have a feature whereby I can import a private key, be asked for the password, key in the password, and wollah, my Electrum wallet can now send, receive, and keep track of bitcoins with this address. How to do this?

So you don't want to do anything you can do to import your funds into an electrum wallet. Instead you insist on doing it your own way. In that case please contribute the necessary code to electrum to make that happen.
1580  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet Issues on: June 09, 2017, 06:05:01 PM
Okay. Thanks for the help from you two guys.
Regarding my wallet and the issues in question - is there anything I should be worried about?

As mentioned above you can't do anything about those dust amounts. Most likely you will have to pay the tx fees for those when you spend from your wallet. The only other thing I can suggest is to upgrade to the latest electrum version because it handles tx fees better than older versions.
