Update: I'm not sure why my data on for instance my total received Merit is slightly off, but this isn't important enough to figure it out.
15782  Economy / Services / Re: CONTEST: design loyce.club home page on: February 14, 2020, 12:13:35 PM
if you'll display our logo on it as a sponsor?
I wouldn't be against this, but it has to fit in the design somehow.
I've thought about making a weekly auction to advertise on my Trust list viewer: an advertisement could be at the bottom of all pages for week 56 for instance (so under http://loyce.club/trust/2020-02-08_Sat_07.44h/350580.html and 10,000+ other pages). The advertisement would remain in place for as long as I can keep all older versions. But that would also look far more desperate for advertising than I really am Tongue

can we still design it?
Yes. I haven't picked a design yet. Lack of time is getting to me this year so far.

Update: I'm not sure why my data on for instance my total received Merit is slightly off, but this isn't important enough to figure it out.
15784  Other / Meta / Re: How do I unfollow threads? on: February 13, 2020, 09:38:21 PM
I now just use the Watchlist link. Easiest workaround.
Just quoting this:
This is really all there is to it:
I don't understand why anyone would not use the watchlist. You can configure the watchlist to be exactly the same as "show new replies to your posts" by configuring your posts to be auto-watched and adding your posted-in topics to your watchlist. After this is done, you can unwatch topics that you don't want to see.
Since I found this post from theymos, I stopped using "Show new replies to your posts.".

Disclaimer: I'm creating a new post to bump this thread, and I don't want to remove my previous post because it's Merited.

Showing the current version of user_ids.txt is easiest, but I think the other version is better. Agreed?
I think that makes sense.
I have updated the current version: http://loyce.club/trust/2020-02-08_Sat_07.44h/user_ids.txt . Please scrape it again to match the changed requirements. (This should be the last time I update an older file)
Update: I just realize my list below includes these changes too. So don't do double work Tongue

Starting in 2 days (on Saturday), I follow the new standard for user_ids.txt to also include users who had all their Trust relations ended the week before. This is untested though, we'll see if it works on Saturday.

For testing: after re-scraping the above file, this user should have a working link to his Trust list.

For older data, I found 286 users who had a reference in a Trust list in earlier weeks, but not in the last week. The following list shows their last reference I have:

This doesn't include data on the first 2 weeks of my Trust list viewer, I didn't link to "I used this copy to get userIDs" yet back then. My data was also a bit messy at the time (due to "difficult" usernames), so I didn't bother to re-create the list.
It would be very nice if BPIP can link those 286 profiles to their respective pages in my Trust list viewer.

Hi Can you tell me exactly where do i input the private key with missing characters?
I haven't tried the software myself, but based on The FinderOuter (initial release 2020-01-01), you can just enter the private key in the GUI:
15787  Other / Meta / Re: Deleted topic? on: February 13, 2020, 06:36:24 PM
I have no idea why the OP was nuked.
Usually it's either plagiarism or ban evasion. In this case his posts don't look like plagiarism, and from his posts it looks like an alt-account of an older user. So my guess would be ban evasion.
15788  Other / Meta / Re: Do we need merit sources for low ranks? on: February 13, 2020, 06:10:09 PM
I disagree (a bit): Merit is meant for posts, not for users. If a high ranking user makes a good post, they deserve Merit.
The idea is that Merit trickles down from there to other users, as long as those users share their sMerit to other good posts.

I wrote "a bit", because I actually have much lower standards for Newbies already: all I'm looking for is believing it's a real user (so not a bounty spammer with many different accounts), and if that's the case, I believe they shouldn't be restricted by the Merit system. I usually check for plagiarism too, just to be sure.
I am a bit in a luxurious-burden position though to say this, being the 6th most generous all time merit sender, currently ranking second in the last 30 days. Whenever I have a bit of a busy day, my source sMerit instanly piles up.

If I was a merit source, I would give out merit based on if a lot of effort is put into the post, if the post makes a good point, if the post presents an interesting perspective, if the post is one that “we want more of” and similar reasons. I would not base sending merit on if they are a low rank, the only exception being if they make generally very strong posts and need merit to rank up to a high rank.  If merit sources follow this (I believe they mostly do, with few exceptions) low ranked users will naturally rank up.
Low ranking users need only 2 things:
1. Make good posts
2. People with sMerit to give have to read them
The first point is up to them, the second will happen eventually, but there are also enough options to draw attention to their posts.

For now, if a newbie wants to get merits he should make extraordinary knowledgeable and useful posts but with higher ranks
The rare Newbie with extraordinary posts will have no problem ranking up. See bullrun2020bro for example. For any other Newbies, I've merited posts that I wouldn't have Merited if they'd be high ranking already. See this, this or this example.

The number of posts per week has been dropping for a very long time now, while more sMerit is sent. That means more sMerit per post, so ranking up should be less difficult now than it was a year ago.

There are several ways to prove that a transaction was or was not at all. If one screenshot is not enough, the support service may request screenshots from the seller by transaction id +
the buyer can generate a pdf report with this transaction where all meta-data will be visible. We also have a couple of tricky ways to determine who is still right, but that's another story.
In the extreme case, when there is no full confidence in the correctness of one of the parties, you can make a remote connection to the seller / buyer for live viewing of the transaction in read-only mode.
So, basically, you're confirming what I said: you can't possibly know for sure who's right or wrong.

Based on the rule change, that post is now considered low value and can be reported.

I should not have said that. I am sorry.
I like this recent wave of correcting and forgiving past mistakes.

Edit- Unfortunately the post is deleted now. I do not know the reason.
The post doesn't show in modlog. If you didn't delete it, it must have been the owner of the self-moderated thread. You should probably ask for the reason, if it gets deleted again there's no point linking it here.

Update: my mistake, I searched for the msgID in modlog, but modlog doesn't show those.
15795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Importing addresses to wallet on: February 12, 2020, 08:12:39 PM
What are you trying to accomplish? Even if you'd have enough RAM to import that many addresses, my gut feeling tells me it will make your wallet far too slow to do anything. Wallets aren't designed let alone optimized for these numbers.

Did you just generate hundreds of millions of addresses and now want to check if any of them holds any balance? If that's the case, I can think of an easier solution:

  • Create a list of all existing addresses with a balance.
  • Find duplicate addresses between that list and your own list.
I've posted the necessary (Linux) code for it a while ago, it's very fast to do as long as you have enough RAM.

15797  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] BPIP Extension - user info add-on / extension for Firefox, Chrome, et al on: February 12, 2020, 05:23:43 PM
The extension can technically read any data from your BitcoinTalk session
Does that mean you can add a one-click option to include/exclude/remove a user from your Trust list? Kinda like Feature request: Show an "Add to Trust list"-button on each profile page, which was never implemented.
15798  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Buy and sell bitcoins without documents | myBTCnetwork.com on: February 12, 2020, 05:12:54 PM
- To complete the deal, the seller must click on the button "release bitcoins". If the buyer forged a screenshot, the seller may not click on this button, in which case the deal will freeze after the deal expiry time and our support team will check this case. Depending on the decision, bitcoins will be transferred either back to the seller or the buyer.
How is your support team going to decide this? A screenshot literally proves nothing, so you can't use that. You say no documents are required, which leaves support nothing to base their decision on.
Unless of course you're going to escrow funds from both buyer and seller, but you'll quickly run into AML problems yourself by transfering funds to and from anonymous sources.

15799  Economy / Reputation / Re: Need more opinions about bestchange red trusts. on: February 12, 2020, 03:17:31 PM
The issue has been resolve and as @best_change explanation it's just frozen account and the money has been claimed by the owner. So I really believe that my fellow DT should remove or at least make their feedback a neutral one, and the flag that has been created should be deleted or at least should be oppose by other DT.
I haven't read everything, but if this is true, I'd say the negative feedback should be removed. This might also help motivate others to do the right thing in a similar situation in the future.
If it becomes clear negative feedback is there to stay even after fixing the accusations, users might be less willing to do the right thing.

Yesterday (Feb. 11th, 2020) I received my last merit needed for Senior rank, the 250th. It was given to me by philipma1957, at ~16:54:59.
~snip~
Unfortunately, LoyceV's site isn't updated yet to see the precise moment when philipma sent me that merit, thus the calculation is approximate
Wait... Are you saying you've never clicked "Merit:" in your profile? It tells you exactly when you received this Merit, you don't have to wait for the weekly data dump:
