Now is the dev team's chance to buy up the order book, put out an update, then get this coin back on track.

Dear Dev,
When will you start to swap coins from MAGICOIN I?
What's the way?

Allow me to post info regarding the coin swap; you can read the OP too, swap was delayed to protect new miners.

Prices are still very low for MAGI I on swisscex.  I'm going to snap some up!

Be cautious we're holding back the swap, no guarantee that way works you out. You may consider months investment in that. Smiley

i dont understand why holding back the swap? arent investors in magi also investors in xmg. this makes it like there's 2 separate coins and those who bought in magi are left holding outdated coin? i do not think this is fair for investors? when can we expect the swap to be initiated. only then will magicoin price rise because there is no incentive to buy the old coins atm.

To all new XMG miners, we didn't hear from our prior magicoin supporter before regarding the coin swap, but here is Coinler's opinion. It is fair that the opinions from our prior supporters should be taken care of too. So please make advice to the questions.

I think that usually a coin would go through a hard fork and just keep rolling along.

In this case, who knows what the price will settle out at once the swap happens.  I think this is a risk for anyone currently investing at the present price.  It is also a message to the community of past and present supporters.  What's to stop coin part three from coming out in a few months and doing the same magic coin disappearing act?  Real value is built from long term stability and merchant, investor and community confidence.  How stable is your coin if some central authority or community holds it and won't trade it for the currently used coin until some future yet to be determined date?

I really don't see any good reason not to swap now as initially planned.  All this mining activity is burning a lot of watts; maybe over a megawatt as a community.  (Can somebody do the math?) We can do much better if things settle down a bit and people start supporting the block chain with PoS; in the mean time perhaps a price drop would discourage so much PoW mining by making large farming unprofitable.  This coin shows so much potential that I think in the long term prospects are wonderful; good work everyone!

Well put.

dev, do you have a node?
1586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is this possible? on: August 05, 2014, 05:20:33 AM
I guess it would help to explain why I ask.  There is a coin called slimcoin that uses Proof of Burn, where coins are "burned", then continue burn (aka decay, aka mint new coins) while the wallet is running.  One issue that has cropped up is that the only way a user can sell his wallet, burnt coins included, is to sell his private key (which he has a copy of).

There is nothing client side that could change that.   The protocol could be hardforked to allow "signing over" burnt coins to a new keypair.

Hmm.  That doesn't seem like a practical solution, but maybe something to work with.
1587  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is this possible? on: August 05, 2014, 05:19:41 AM
I'm not explaining very well.  There are actually 3 ways to mint coins with slimcoin:  proof of work, proof of stake, and proof of burn.  After minting coins through PoW, a user may choose to burn his coins, which will, in turn, generate new slimcoins that can be burnt or spent the same as the coins generated through PoW or PoS.   The problem is that the burnt coins are tied to the wallet, and cannot be transferred.  It's not necessarily a fatal flaw, and may have even been done by design, but it got me curious.

Is it possible to change the private key of a bitcoin (or other altcoin) wallet, otherwise keeping the wallet *the same*, and render the old private key useless?
I'm betting this shows a some fundamental misunderstanding of cryptography, but please humor me.

Not at this stage, but maybe later
I can`t compile from source.
Code:
g++ -c -O2 -pthread -Wall -Wextra -Wformat -Wformat-security -Wno-unused-parameter -g -DBOOST_SPIRIT_THREADSAFE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -I/home/ori/whirlcoin/src -I/home/ori/whirlcoin/src/obj -DUSE_UPNP=0 -DUSE_IPV6=1 -I/home/ori/whirlcoin/src/leveldb/include -I/home/ori/whirlcoin/src/leveldb/helpers -DHAVE_BUILD_INFO -fno-stack-protector -fstack-protector-all -Wstack-protector -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2  -fpermissive -MMD -MF obj/groestl.d -o obj/groestl.o groestl.c
groestl.c:36:25: fatal error: sph_groestl.h: No such file or directory
 #include "sph_groestl.h"
                         ^
compilation terminated.
make: *** [obj/groestl.o] Error 1

Which makefile are you using? Edit out any instances of sph_groestl.h and groestl.c with sph_whirlpool.h and whirlpool.h
Ubuntu 14.04
makefile.unix

Hmmm...  I had the same error so I copied groest.h from another coin.  Not sure what I've made.

1595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Slimcoin : Proof of Burn NEW BLOCK GEN, Mineable by low power computer! on: July 19, 2014, 08:26:14 PM
I am creating a FAQ and useful information list. Please write your suggestions for questions or topics to be answered.

Here is what I have so far, I will add more to it:
How can I start PoB mining?
What are my chances of hitting a PoB block?

Maybe this stuff:

decayed burnt coins: Your amount of your burnt coins that are now inactive, gone, no longer mining in a sense
immature burnt coins: Your amount of burnt coins that are not mining yet, since they have to have a certain depth in the blockchain to start mining
effective burnt coins: Your amount of burnt coins that are currently mining
net burnt coins: The total amount of coins that you have burned.

Also, several pages back, somebody wrote this:

Quote
I hope the dev has not left. Nothing that the developer of course does not know already. But this coin is just an absolutely wonderful idea that can start a new breed of coins.

Just some thoughts, i hope i didn't get them wrong

- Proof of Burn
- Technological independence
- Mining with almost any hardware with the same possibilities as those with advanced one
- More spreaded
- More fair
- Many different hardware configurations could be used for maximum spread and adoption
- Mobile phones
- Router
- TV
- Your PC
- whatever
- Asic resistant
- Money normally invested on Asics goes directed to the slimcoin economy instead of leaving crypto economy. Can you imagine bitcoin without price selling 3600 coins every day to feed miners?
- No need to wait for asic orders to manufacturers (no scams, no delays)
- The equipment manufacturers are not on a single country with monopoly on chips (it gives resistance to technology industry manufacturers centralization attacks)
- Pool resistant, although there can be POW pools they will never get a 51% of the network
- Easy to calculate the ROI of your "POB mining operation" just knowing the total amount of burned coins at the moment and your share of those. You can just burn a few more if needed instantly. No need to montly plans with preorders (available to everyone and easy)
- Solves the limited number of node problem bitcoin suffers, because everybody can have its own farming factory on its pc, or in its mobile and it is incentivized.
- Energy independence (no need for a huge industrial area to setup your mining farm, just your wallet is needed)
- The network can be spreaded all over the world, not just on zones with cheap electricity (it gives resistance to cheapest electricity centralization attacks & it also gives maximum and fair node spread)
- Ecological
- It could be the coin for the "Internet of things" where the blockchain trust technology could be adopted for any device, your fridge, your mobile, etc.
- Proof of Burn shows the path for other ideas like "investment" possiblities on the same wallet. You just burn and you get some ROI attached to the same mining protocol. Maybe even a lend/borrowing model could be added?
- Maybe even the proof of burn could be used to add anonimity. You have a second button on your wallet "anonimize". and you press it and enter the number of coins to anonimize, those get burned and you receive in a totally different address on the same wallet, other burned coins. After all there is a huge repository of burned coins (well disregard if it does not make too much sense)

Really really interesting coin,

Please developer continue with this one, it is just an awesome idea.

If this stuff is inline with your vision, maybe include some of that.

How does it differ from NUD?

The word "Dollar" has been replaced with "Euro".

In the update coming soon, that will be the only issue left since I was unable to reproduce the issue and have no idea where it is coming from.
Some have said it is the PoS. All I can say now is, if you want to disable PoS, just start the client with -reservebalance=9999999. That basically says start PoS minting when you have more than 9999999 coins.
There are so many issues to fix, one of them is high CPU usage from PoS, other is fake 'mint by burn' transactions shown in wallet... then some others listed in this thread.

The question is, how much CPU should PoS take? Currently at ~60% CPU, wallet has 270 transactions.

Code:
PID USER      PR  NI    VIRT    RES    SHR S  %CPU %MEM     TIME+ COMMAND
1771 kbs1      20   0 1088724 101924  55580 S  57.8  2.7   8:37.06 slimcoin-qt

Maybe the CPU usage issue only occurs with the qt?  I haven't had any problems with the daemon...

TODO
- Review coins and remove any that have been de-listed from exchanges.
- Add ShinyCoin
