Think they're goin' down eh? They took a nice haircut yesterday.

I guess I'm a week late on this idea...   Undecided

Yeah, anyone doing their homework knew the divvy was being cut this week. I think the selling is already overdone, given their share of the network...I'm a buyer at these levels.
1582  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Are Josh and Sonny Preparing to Ship? on: March 26, 2013, 06:39:53 PM
I'd be an ecstatic shovel buyer, had I the good sense to ignore both US vaporware shovel vendors and invest in the allegedly amateurish Chinese shovel vendors last fall. Those shovel buyers are now buying moar shovels off the profits gained from their first shovels.
1583  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Are Josh and Sonny Preparing to Ship? on: March 26, 2013, 06:30:12 PM
Do you mean the same Chinese guys that BFL_Josh made fun of every chance he got, calling them idiots and amateurs, while laughing at people and calling them "fucking morons" for the large btc bets that they wouldn't ship March 1?

The very same wise sir owl.

...though we could also discuss the other China based ASIC company whose thread BFL_Josh/inblahblah also trolled which has also successfully produced working ASIC chips in a shorter time frame than the self proclaimed experts at BFL. However as they're currently mining with those chips rather than shipping them to end users(for now) let's leave them out of it shall we?

The important thing to be aware of if you're considering an ill advised investment in BFL's 5+ month late vaporware products(originally due 10/2012) is that both their competitors are rapidly driving up the network hashrate with their working ASIC chips and with it difficulty as they deploy more hardware while BFL's past victims investors helplessly watch their ROI lengthen.
1584  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Are Josh and Sonny Preparing to Ship? on: March 26, 2013, 04:53:07 PM
Why does BFL's CEO have the same name and is from this same HUGE city as a convicted fraudster?

I can answer this one at least definitively. This is due to the fact that Sonny Vleisides, an officer at BFL, is in fact the very same convicted thief and has admitted as much publicly...just search. Course BFL in typical BFL fashion did not voluntarily admit this until confronted. Occasionally one BFL mouthpiece or another denies that Sonny is currently their CEO and I believe they claim Nasser is now, but I don't follow this ridiculous drama as closely as I did when I was actually considering an order with them.

There are liars and convicted thieves in positions of authority at butterfly labs. Caveat emptor.

You seem to have posted a strong criticism for "not follow[ing] this ridiculous drama".

This drama has been unfolding for months bud, none of this is new. Really, just do a search, you can read all about it at your leisure and make your own call. I've made mine.

"as closely as I did". That came out a few months ago.

Except that Creative-I-Don't-Need-Evidence-To-Form-An-Opinion-X posts many, many times in every possible BFL thread in existence, so if he was following it closer in the past, that is truly frightening, given that he lives and breathes BFL in the present.

LOL

Like inblahblah here, I'm a miner. I run a mining company, it's kind of necessary to keep up on developments at hardware vendors...or in this case FORMER hardware vendors. BFL USED to be a company that sold mining gear, albeit in a shady and scammy fashion. When BFL shut down their FPGA sales and switched to their current ad based ASIC pre-order ponzi scam model, I at first did lots of research to determine if I should invest. I've since decided that they're either scammers or grossly incompetent(or both) and shouldn't be trusted with a plug nickel, at least until they prove capable of manufacturing anything other than moar excuses.

Pretty sure if you check my posts Mr. BFL COO or CEO or whatever your current title is at Big Fn Lie Inc. then you'll find I've mostly moved on to posting in threads about your competitor's products. You know the Chinese guys that started their ASIC project months after you "professionals" and are actually shipping finished products. Them guys.
1586  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who ordered batch #3 Avalon ? on: March 26, 2013, 03:55:15 PM
Bitpay rox. Coinbase screwed me by delaying a payment to bitcoinstore by over an hour. Roll Eyes Bitcoinstore and bitpay patched it all up in short order even though neither of them were at fault. Kewl that Avalon tried to toss some business to the lesser known payment processors, but I'm glad they went with bitpay this time around, the difference was night and day.
1587  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Batch #3 Not selling as fast.... on: March 26, 2013, 03:40:28 PM
Being completely honest. I was going to buy 10-20 batch 3, even if the price doubled to $3,000. But they asked too much. I'm heavily onsidering plunking down some cash this week on a BFL minirig.

I love avalon and I' happy with my bath 1 purchases that finally arrived today. But, still it was quite frustrating getting them delivered and the dealys for batch 2 and an unknown time for batch 3 make me very hesitant. Combine that with the huge price increase and it's a no go, right now.

If paying 5 grand for something is too much, why the hell would you pay 1300 for nothing?

That's quite a good point.

Even better when you consider that a minirig is actually $30k and worth nothing until it's delivered which may well be never.

the same can be said about anything else? Avalon can deliver, but when? End of april, or may? BFL could be shipping by then and difficulty is way up. By then it makes more sense to go minirig, even if it is twice the power and half the hashrate than buying 10 avalons.

I'd assign a much lower level of risk to an Avalon order than I would a BFL order simply because Avalon has proven they have a finished product to sell and that they're capable of delivering it. While as you well know Avalon has had some issues with delivery of their first batch, they are in China and did have CNY to contend with. That's not to say there weren't some liberties taken with announcements, but it was I'm sure a major disruption for them. They've also pushed back delivery of batch 2, which helps you(at my expense) as you have a batch 1 order in hand and I'm awaiting a batch 2 order.

With CNY in the rearview and Avalon stating they've doubled their production capacity going forward a batch 3 Avalon order was, for me at least, a fairly easy decision even with the pricetag and believe me I have done the math on a BFL minirig pre-order. The math just doesn't work for me until BFL proves they can produce SOMETHING, at least show off a working prototype hashing. This last couple weeks with BFL claiming they have chips, but can't quite seem to get a test rig up and working is just more of the same from these guys. Either they're lying or they're hopelessly incompetent. Either way I cannot justify the risk that their chips are trash(again) and they'll be back to whining about fab delays again soon...assuming of course they survive that long.

1590  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Shall we blame ASICs for yesterday's difficulty hike? on: March 26, 2013, 02:27:22 PM
Yes, but at 75BTC per unit, the price is beyond my reach. If only I learnt about them when batch 2 orders were still open... $1500 were at the pain threshold, by $5700 (at today's rate), sorry...

No apology necessary. The price increase in USD terms was tough to take, though understandable given the lack of competition Avalon has in the marketplace.

1592  Economy / Economics / Re: European Union is robbing its citizens' bank accounts. 9.9% to be confiscated. on: March 26, 2013, 02:11:40 PM
And stop saying BS, please. These banks are going down, some people are going to lose money. Better it be those who invested in said banks than tax-victims who had nothing to do with the problem. Even worse would be forcing all EUR holders to pay.
Of course, for the 100th time, the bank shareholders should lose all, they should not be saved at the expense of their clients. And ideally those who made riskier investments should be cut before those who simply held checking accounts. And every creditor or client of the bank that loses something should receive a proportional share of the bank's assets in return.
There used to be this story called a "capital structure". According to this story every stakeholder in a company was assigned a certain preference so that if a bankruptcy was to occur the losses would be felt by the different classes of stakeholders in a pre-defined order. People who believed this story used it to calculate risk. Some people decided to accept a lower return in exchange for a safer position in the capital structure, other people decided to take a less senior position in exchange for a higher return. Everybody made their decisions based on the idea these rules would remain objective and unchanged.

Then 2008 happened and reality decided to tear down this pretty little fantasy. Much to the dismay of the investors stupid enough to believe in the "rule of law", the way it actually works is when a bank becomes insolvent the losses are eaten by the group of stakeholders who have the least ability to bribe the regulatory and lawmaking apparatus. Your actual position in the capital structure depends on your political clout at the time of bankruptcy. Congratulations, you just learned an expensive lesson in what it means to live in a centrally-planned command economy. Welcome to fascism.

The truth is that they are spending money to get more newbies sucked in their preorder scheme. With already at least 20k preorders in the backlog and without even a working prototype. It's a shame.

It's more than just a shame, it's a crime.

Hey,
I am just wondering if there is a record of the company financials and when/how often are dividends paid, and how much of total earnings and all that good stuff?
thanks

This is only a Pass Through to ASICMiner, all the stuff you're looking for is available in ASICMiner's thread:

All GPUs are again mining BTC. I'll switch at least some of them back if there's another surge in the LTC/BTC exchange rate.

Update:

We spent some time submitting nothing but rejected shares earlier...looks like we lost about 30mins of work before I noticed the problem. The pool op over at bitparking is looking into the problem, which is apparently on his end. Meanwhile I've shifted the GPUs over to bitminter and I'll leave them there till I'm sure the coast is clear. Nasty problem as CGMiner doesn't switch to backup when shares are continuously rejected, so you just keep mining away without credit. I'll sell some alt coins to make up the lost revenue. Our dividends are looking pretty skimpy as it is while we await our Avalon orders.

anyone have prior experience with bitpay?
I ordered a 85Gh/s w/o PSU,
and now am doing bellyflops cause I don't see the transaction in the blockchain, and also the "temporary address" is now expired??? (wtf does that mean?)

help?

Did you get a payment confirmation? An order #? What does your account say at the Avalon store? Bitpay is the premier payment processor, nearly anyone that's used BTC has used them.

Glad you finally got your Avalon.

I don't really follow your reasoning for a BFL order however. If you think Avalon has behaved poorly then how would you describe BFL's behavior? An order placed last summer for that minirig could have seen you paying 5000BTCs for it with nothing at all to show for it now. Business decisions made on emotion tend to be poor decisions.
