161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 1.5. Come on in the water's fine! on: July 28, 2017, 02:35:59 PM
Gonna have to face facts.
Even with big blocks and huge weight orphans are strangling the process.

Minimum stake size or any other method to kill off the staking spam

I'm not convinced 90 second block times will help if the wallet continues to be so unresponsive.

I have recently aggregated all blocks into a new wallet and saved 6-700 MB of RAM
can't say I'm noticing any improvements.

The wallet is thrashing 30% of a 4GHz quad core and falls into long periods of orphans on fixed by a wallet restart.

Also if everyone is creating so many potential POS solutions why are we always near 100% reward?

Better staking algo and 90 sec block time will be a huge difference..  I have 1.5.5 just about ready. THis will be the first part to help staking. Plenty of other things to do, and then we can talk about hard forks for 1.6. I think 90 second block time HAS to be among them.

OK I'll buy the improved algo part for sure, I'm neither here or there at 60-90 seconds to be honest.

I've been doing a bit of tinkering over here and beginning to feel I'm on the outskirts of the network .
There is a dude in Kiev helping me out but most peers have shocking ping times. (I believe some of the reported times are WAAAY off also)

Could we flag which peers are in sync with the network in the peers info % or some such?

Don't know whether to hug this or put it out of its misery.

Getting about $50 a week from the stake, going to diversify some of the stake to other coins thanks to charity function.

Pros about the coin:
It can hardly go below 80 sat. It can go to 32k sat if people go FOMO.
It has a lot of connections and will probably not get delisted from Cryptopia.
You get a stake which you can only spend gradually, which does not damage the market as much as direct dumps.
Tranz is an amazing developer and pals with cryptocointalk forum admin

All in all, I still like it, but don't know why I'm amongst only a few...

I rather think you missed my intent there .

F3RNijHVZw4Mytrfg1XGX8QoauUdVYMjy7
Received   0.06387 HBN   in 1 transactions
Sent   0.0 HBN   in 0 transactions
Staked   0.008213 HBN   in 1 transaction

It's teeeny tiny, like someones having a little (and I do mean little) joke. 2 months stake though so kinda interesting

Anyway no need to preach to the converted.
I'm a major supporter of HBN have been mining and staking through thick and thin since the earliest days maybe even hours.

When will Maxcoin trade on a more or less normal exchange?
Max Keiser advertises a Maxcoin, but it trades in some kind of basement.

What like a "Boiler room" sort of thing you mean ??
167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 1.5. Come on in the water's fine! on: July 20, 2017, 09:09:35 AM
Looking at the explorer Stake Input Size for the last 1000 blocks there seem to be a great many stakes under 20 HBN
so these must be creating plenty of failed stakes.

Before I looked I was under the impression that stakes below this would be at a minimum due to auto combining etc

yup ... Obvious now I think about it.

Should we consider a mandatory minimum block size to stake? or alter default split / combine thresholds
If say it was 20 HBN and even (I mean when Smiley ) HBN was $0.05 (actually a nickel) then that would represent a dollar stake
which sounds pretty fair, right now it's ~10cents

There is a wallet out there staking 2HBN a pop and could well have 27000 blocks we only has space for 2880 a day
Wallets like that produce a lot of the spam that's going to become an issue.
I'M producing a LOT of spam but will be doing the recombining thing shortly.

I remember Maxcoin being a great mine and dump when it first came out - weren't people paying several dollars a coin when it got listed on MXCNOW?
Pretty sure I made over 0.5 BTC in a few days with a couple of cards. I also traded some with a friend for Darkcoin (Dash) which he was mining.
I think the ratio was something like 2:1 in Maxcoins favour although could be wrong on that!?

I'd be amazed if MK got involved with this again. Epitome of scam coin.

Still have 20 in a wallet I held on to waiting for one last pump as it spiraled into oblivion. Doubt it'll ever be worth syncing up for.

Yeah mining profits on max were on the obscene side for a short period .... cool running GPUs too!..... MCXNOW! .. them was the days.
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 1.5. Come on in the water's fine! on: July 19, 2017, 11:09:29 PM
I don't really have these problems with orphans... I get some... but because I manually keep my blocks around 8-9k I don't see the shit ton that everyone complains about.  My only complaint is that it's not done automatically, ala how paycon worked when we were having fun with our favorite soon to be jailbird Homero...  small blocks gets combined through the wallet software.  It's not the 30s, although that's not exactly what I was talking about when I said you shouldn't futz with the coin basics... I was talking more along with the increasing stake or whatever... the more you let loose on inflation the worse the coin will be.

EDIT:  Oh and if you haven't already can you put the new wallet link in the first post... that's probably what is taking the exchange so long to update...

Yeah did the same with block sizes and always wondered what the fuss was about. But ... I'm experiencing how grim it CAN get. probably an extreme case I'll admit
I'm actually having to restart the wallet every now and then as transactions just start pending as offline and successful stakes are ~ 1:100

I imagine its got something to do with memory management and other things going on on my PC along with a couple of thousand blocks trying to stake at once.
Block numbers get out of hand fast if you're lazy so dug my own hole over here to some extent.

This is experimental software

On the subject of increased block times I'm more in favour of accepting that a block chain of this age and size proves these short blocks are a bit of a busted flush.

There are / will be other ways to implement high speed high volume transactions but that's not what HBN's challenge is.

If there is a sound reason for change ( I believe there is here) don't be afraid of change for the better. It's change for change sake that's the enemy.

More important to maintain the economics of reward per investment (I.e. up the reward cap  by same factor ... pweeeese ).

Also are we not still trying to be the solution to some of the early crypto issues of flash mining, pool hopping and all that stuff I can't quite remember the details of
in my old cryptohobo addled brain.

Ohhhh ORPHANS and broken stratum rings a bell aaaargh the heell of it all.
lets keep that pioneering spirit up.

yeah .. I've had a beer
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: July 19, 2017, 08:44:03 PM
I was watching the market as the first half of that happened I have a very strong feeling most of that volume was someone buying their own coins back to themselves.
lets not forget some of these folk have millions of max and its easy to swing that market with next to nothing.

Anyway I from what I saw the sells and buys got placed in extremely quick succession and were matched by exact values on the trades. Coincidence ? .. OK
You could see it pretty clearly in the trade history while it was still on screen sure it went on long after I stopped watching.

Historically max has only one shape to its market graph but I'm sure there will be a mass hype at some point.
Taking part is up to you, your money.

Well, I must admit, I considered for a microsecond buying back at 500 sats, when I sold at 2-4000 sats.
Definitely would have increased my position with the same BTC value, from 4-8 times the original Maxcoin holding.
So, hypothetical, selling 10k Maxcoins at 4000 could have turned into as much as 80k Maxcoins at 500 sats, definitely a better Maxcoin position.
Crazy to think at how hard that 70k Maxcoin difference is going to take, trying to mine it, now with the 8 Maxcoin reward per block.
500 sats feels like the floor ... and I can completely understand the move ...

My money/BTCs have already bought Maxcoins at 400,000, 300,000, 200,000, 80,000, and 30,000 sats ... so, no more money going in ... I'm still down something stupid like 99% of a tremendous amount of my BTC invested since the beginning, not to mention, never selling my mined Maxcoins for 3 years, until recently as described before.

So, the only time I will make another move, will be to sell the remaining Maxcoins, should anything astronomical happen.  And until then, my attention is elsewhere.
Should nothing really happen, then, those sitting in my wallet will just stay there ...

Right or Wrong I have always played max as declining market mine - sell - re-buy sell re-buy etc.etc ... usually good % all the way down boring and predicable
There are the same number of max above my buy orders now as there were 2 days ago but the book is now stretched longer.

The coins I picked up before the recent "activity" are now sold into it but I see no reason to move my buys up the book, I'd agree 4-500sats is about right
I'll be patient for the inevitable .. I have a bag on standby Smiley

maxcoin antics seem a bit transparent for me to support the nonsense. That's if I'm right at all.

There are more exciting markets to play .. still....  popcorn at the ready!

Hey Iv'e got an idea ..... make max a POS coin and go twitter crazy

Ouch coinmarketcap is still quoting Jubi as 98% of trade volume.
1920 vs 506 sats on Yobit

Good MAXCOIN team would make sure this is corrected before coin gets a bad name.

Misinformation = poor public engagement.

Out of interest does the number of transactions in a wallet have any effect on efficiency?
175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: July 17, 2017, 11:35:30 AM
I'd imagine when the miners wake up and realise the value potential here they will immediately cease mining maxcoin (pools will switch).
1 min blocks of 8 coin @ 0.00000500's

Unless someone is willing to throw money at artificially boosting max coin price or mine at a loss to keep it ticking over.

There's lots of holders with big bags of cheaply mined max who will dump on the first buy order of any size

My math screams life support, race to the bottom

tbh I keep my blocks at 9k all the time. safes me alot of headache...

Yeah me too but started to feel guilty about not holding up the network so decided to let thinks take a natural course.
I think I have found the red line.
177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 1.5. Come on in the water's fine! on: July 17, 2017, 08:49:35 AM
Bit of an orphan fest right now?

Either 1.5.3 or the fact I have let my stakes run down to many small blocks this time around. The hit rate is 5 stakes / 105 orphans overnight

New client did struggle a bit to get in sync and stay there - last block time is laggy but I'm not sure that isn't just GUI update lag
POS block info window seems very shy these days.

I'll get a transaction stuck on 1 confirm for 5-10 mins and then suddenly 24 confirms and a bunch of stakes go orphan with it.

Also seems to be behaving worse @ 1.6GB ram usage than @ 2GB

Are we are waiting this out for block 5.6M?

.. wow this is like going to the doctor. In the time taken to type this a flurry of confirmed Stakes arrives Smiley

Dear Maxcoin friends,

I am now the person responsible for Maxcoin's bitcointalk account.

First: please be patient!

A developer is currently working hard to update the Maxcoin code. Unfortunately, we can not update things that have not been updated for two years in one day. We need time.

There will be a first small security update for Maxcoin within a few months. After that, a larger update will take place.

Meanwhile, the call for others is not to be on their hands. Everyone can make a contribution to community by promoting Maxcoin.

Maxcoin has a great good starting point. His fame is great, there are many members in the community and, what we (as Maxcoin team) think: also a beautiful future.

What are we going to do

1. Update and care for the websites, from now:
1a) https://maxcoin.org.uk/
1b) https://www.maxcoin.co.uk/
1c) http://maxcoin.online/
==> we ask the community to contribute by writing articles, send the websites an email with your article

2. Update and care for the twitter accounts, from now:
@getmaxcoin: https://twitter.com/getmaxcoin
@maxcoinbiz: https://twitter.com/maxcoinbiz
@MaxcoinProject: https://twitter.com/maxcoinproject
@CoinVigilante: https://twitter.com/CoinVigilante
==> we ask the community to contribute by retweeting and replying to the tweets, so please follow to do this!

3. Create a new Mining Pool, we need more mining pools and more miners. So we create one! We hope to realise this in short term.

4. Create a new explorer. We need a good explorer. We hope to realise this in short term.

5. Update Maxcoin: developer is working hard. Be patient please.

6. Negotiate with exchanges to add Maxcoin: exchanges will add Maxcoin, about this we do not doubt.

7. Promote the coin.

I hope I've made clear what's happening. The team is working hard, do not worry! We hope for your support.

Maxcoin Project

Perhaps you could start with an easy win and update the OP to be factually accurate.
