I heard read about people talking about hobonickles the other day. I thought they are dead I never heard of them much. It rings a bell a little bit. I want to know how many hobonickles should in to start off with a small but workable and meaningful sized investment ? I need to make sure I get enough weight for this staking or minting or whatever it's called.

Well I guess that depends on what you consider "meaningful"

Difficulty is low and interest general paying @100% potential whenever I've looked recently.

take a look at this wallet
http://chainz.cryptoid.info/hbn/address.dws?F2JkrXiG99kVnj26FoXaFTg8FSBT8Lu992.htm
only ~1500HBN but staking away regularly
what $5 worth

So jump in !! Smiley

Oh, somebody made his homework! A person who believes to know! The link is really boring, I can calm down, and stay in this coin.
*shrugs*

Would be great to have a POS coin working nicely on ultra low cost hardware RPi etc.
I know people did this in the early days with HBN but .... works anymore?

As an aside what thoughts on linking the wallet / address online time with minting/mining?
I believe CLAM has a requirement to be active on the network for x period as well as have coin age.
Can that also be applied to POW? If so it could curtail flash mining somehow?

Agreed. I hope to be back on the Pi someday.

Sounds like Proof of Connection to me.  Sounds cool, but probably more complicated then needed.

Here is a very simple code to ensure only 1 PoW for every 1 PoS.

Quote

if ( IsProofOfWork() && nHeight > POW_LIMIT_HEIGHT) )
    {
        if ( pindexPrev->IsProofOfWork())
           return error("AcceptBlock() : PoW must come afer PoS only");
    }

Lots of stuff in crypto "sounds cool"

Solution is usually the simple one. Sold!

I'd ask a slightly different question.
How many people keep their wallets offline until stake time due to cpu / memory issues?

If that is the root cause of low difficulty, look to repair the flaw and the average difficulty will go up when all wallets are online and chugging.

yeah I do say that as one of the guilty. Also wish I was not.

Otherwise, yeah, probably kill POW but care with network security.

This is good point. CPU will be address along with this Fork. Will memory? Hopefully, but that might be later.

Hey all,

Can someone remind me the limits on stake combine / split please.

Is it still limited to 1/500th of your wallet balance?
or is there a hard cap also?

my extended staking info is saying split : 20 combine 40

I'm thinking more in the 100s-1000s

There is are hard cap in if you set from startup switch or the .conf file. You can try the RPC command splitthreshold/combinethreshold.

I'll look to update these in the next release as well.

Sounds like that would be it.
I'll check when I get the chance
Cheers

Fourtoes no one was looking to you for answers other than wondering why the hell you're putting up page after page of nonsensical drivel that had no purpose other than to make you look like a raving lunatic.

Congrats you keep succeeding.

Weren't you done a long time ago?  Like 3 times now

I'm handing the reigns over to you mate

191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: July 04, 2017, 09:24:51 AM
So FlungSpun you think he should have sold instead of mining and holding all those years?  Yet Kelly seems to want to shame him for selling now?

Which is it, sell or not to sell?  Promote maxcoin or don't promote maxcoin?  Maxcoin is a speculative investment or FOMO?

Seems like you're more interested in a poking a bear than giving any actual persuasive thought.  Troll is as a troll does...

Well I thought i made that pretty clear.
Mining blindly without mitigating costs / debt will lead you right to where Four_toes landed. bemoaning his -ve $$$ and hoping for a big win. (too much hope and moaning for me)
There is no definitive right or wrong here, we all make our choices and plans and live with them. They are all shades of grey but he took an extreme binary choice,
very risky and then wrote essays of Waaaagh!!, call the wambulance hes butt hurt..

Promoting maxcoin seems like a dead duck to me until a team has all said ducks in a row, website, dev team etc etc ... I fear the ducks are dead anyways.
But saying that, there is still value in trading the market. If holders actually spent some time generating a healthy market volume to trade and enjoy people
will come play on it. Oh but look, since yesterdays meltdown the volume is practically zero again so no one in their right mind is going to buy a piece to play the swings.

Maxcoin, like all others is a speculation .. Four_toes was FOMO into selling his bag (most of which he should have de-risked at the beginning (only my opinion)

Yes I did indeed poke the bear because, I'll admit; he got under my skin. Enough egocentric arrogant BS blaming everyone else for his woes and how their low IQ is so
inferior to his huge brainy I just googled / thesaurus some big words when he quite obviously did one of two bad things.
Weak handed his long play to fail to cover his bills OR made a howling mistake making the bed he is lying in in the first place . Both pretty extreme choices to get himself there.

My experience on max since "reboot" is like this
I had some max on exchange and I have been trading it - its notional value to me is Zero (all debts paid)
Over the last week I have made 0.2 btc (big woo right)
I have lost control of a small amount of max but if I do the extreme (silly) math. my current vector makes my holdings ~55Btc and it will take me 9.5 years to exit my position
Make of that what you will.

"Killing expenses and speculating profit is just pain good practice in risk mitigation not to mention common sense."  << please take this as an attempt at a persuasive thought
or a warning to anyone of the new generation of miners who maybe about to fall into this trap.

Please understand that while I meant every word of what I wrote much of it was done with a smile on my face as Four_toes decided to dumb-ass, sugar plum and Einstein a
simple list of points explaining what I had taken out of his prolific TLDR theses in this thread (now mostly deleted)

I don't consider a retort in the same way I do a trolling.

Anyway he's laughing, I was laughing at the time but
Big round furry paw bear / sugar plum / sit on my lap and watch me trade Huh sorry tad too homo erotic for my tastes

He's still banging on about how much he knows, you know ...... he knows you know you know .... or should that be ..... bah who cares...

Max needs some volume on the exchanges and some movement in the market. Trading is a fun challenge for those who aren't cripplingly over invested
If we can create that kind of atmosphere around here it will look like a market worth engaging in. No one (me) gives a stuff about the same old words banded about
by all the alt coins (infinitesimally small differences in USP) they want a coin that works in environment that looks like it will last the distance and have character enough to enjoy participation.

So, I'm out ...

Vey very good news. Less idiots as supporter = better future for Maxcoin.

All eggs one basket
Didn't cover costs along the way - just WOW!
Expected growth despite evidence
Hopium addict
FOMO elsewhere
No immediate gratification on reboot
No patience to trade and make market
RAGE QUIT!

Yeah the guy who talked of shifting coins in 5k lumps sold them the same way into ever decreasing returns

Top job

Haha ... FOMO ... haha ... you're killing me ... I'm retired dumb ass ...
Did any of you ... (many words can go here) ... have enough real money to run a mining network for 3+ years without needing a dollar?
All eggs in one basket concerning the mining (well, for 2 years sure, but mining has been around longer than that there sugar plum).

And it wasn't about needing to earn monthly income like most ... it was about having fun with an opportunity with future speculation ...
How many times have you heard about people wishing they never sold the coins?  Bitcoins, Ethereum ... ?
Maxcoins could have been one of the largest speculative investments ever ...

No patience for trade ... haha ... do you sit on my lap to see what I do ...
RAGE QUIT ... haha ... just smart enough to realize that going from 61 sats to 3000 sats was good enough for me ... considering it was lost.
Sold them into ever decreasing return ... another stupid comment without seeing my sell, or buy orders during that entire time.

Sold them, and bought an ICO which quintupled my position in 7 days ... and I sold Maxcoin to a point where, it never forced the price down.
And since someone else dropped the bomb, offloading 500,000 Maxcoins in 12 hours, I'm now in a position to leverage my Maxcoin position by 25+ times over, for all you math geniuses out there ...

So tell me, was it the right move there Einstein?

I just don't see where Maxcoin is going, especially after seeing what is going on ... and, I understand my position very well ... selling 80% and keeping 20% for future speculation is where I'm going to stay.

Criticism without comprehension only reflects that immature relative perspective of incomplete comprehension ...

Top job ... thank you very much, I'll take it as a compliment ...

HAHA! soooo easy to poke...

so to be clear ... you're NOT OUT then are you ....

kelly will be disappointed.

So retired people don't have have any cares about exciting or interesting things going on around them and don't worry that they might not be a part of them?
OK "retired" FOMO denier then.

2 years of blinkers, ignorant of more profitable things to mine along the way! ... erm diversify! (important word write it down)

Takes on huge pile of risk with no exit plan .. duh .. and don't say you didn't because apparently you held onto mining a dead coin for YEARS and you were
practically jizing yourself over the idea that your chickens had come home to roost.
Now you are complaining about obscene losses because it didn't turn out that way immediately and you need to trade the nuts out of your pathetic little bag (relative) to make it right

Not having to scrape for monthly expenses does not offer bragging rights in any sphere of life, some people can't through misfortune or no fault of their own
and it certainly does not excuse stupidity and poor judgement. "Shame on you"

Killing expenses and speculating profit is just pain good practice in risk mitigation not to mention common sense. Einstein!

You were not "having fun with an opportunity with future speculation" I believe "freezing you nuts off keeping your rigs cool" (while you wife batters you for ODing
the electricity bill i'm sure) was the phrase you used. In a deleted post.

MAXcoins could still be the biggest speculative investment ever (cough) but you're out right? -

Personally I rinsed and repeated many trades along the way - all my mined coin funds are still in place (trash excluded)..... the coins I mined back in the day now pay out
more in interest and good trading opportunities than I ever mined on a daily basis (deducting costs ofc which are now ZERO) I kept my house warm for several winters with
my heaters, I mean rigs,  and when I switched them off everything was paid for and there were some nice big bags to hold and play with. - eerrrm  yeah well read that how
you like but calling me sugar plum and asking me to sit on your lap to watch you "trade" are not going to fly buddy.

I probably did not make as much return as you did in the last week, but neither did I rage quite a perfectly workable trading vehicle. I have asset I can use and I will continue
to enjoy doing so. I'm happy that I didn't LOSE anything, yeah we all have that if only trade just a click away but lets be honest if we didn't click it  it didn't happen.
What you are claiming to have lost, aimlessly mining and taking on risk for no credible reason beggars belief.

Anyway It was fun watching you bemoan your existence and self pity the sh1t out of your own ineptitude - best regards to your long suffering wife.

194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: July 03, 2017, 04:28:07 PM
Well the reboot should never have been public until things were ready to go.  I mean all the links pointing to the same supposed "fakenews" site for the first week.  No one in control with any vision.  Being added to Yobit without any news to go with it just means that things were going to get dumped.

Here we are a couple weeks in and still nothing.  If you want to hype a coin you need to make sure the rollout is smooth and planned well.  Not all janky and half assed like this has been.  I thankfully had nothing invested in it besides the few coins I happened to mine up on Miningpoolhub.  That's the only reason I saw this post in the first place and I was looking for a place to dump the crapcoins that I accidentally mined that weren't auto-exchanged.

I don't know that this is peak bubble, but it sure seems like the idea of mining coins is going down with great abandon.  People are starting to wake up to the energy costs associated with mining and how much of a "waste" it is to have GPU's and CPU's chugging away calculating meaningless hashes.  Not to mention the looming question of quantum computing around the corner that could throw a monkey wrench in almost all current crypto based on difficult to solve math problems.  The second a computer comes online that can crack this stuff in seconds means that it all becomes worthless, even if they never actually use it for that purpose.

I wouldn't feel guilty one bit for taking your profits.  No one is required to show allegiance to anything and certainly shouldn't be shamed into thinking they should be.  Everyone makes their own choices and loyalty is a luxury not a necessity.  When Maxcoin shows some purpose other than an investment vehicle for draining people's wallets then maybe it will go somewhere.  At this point it is just another place to store some value and not a very stable or safe one at that.
This guy ^^
Well said
Solid logic

Obviously came on holiday to the maxcoin thread by mistake.

Buy high sell low at it's finest.

Still those 368 sat trades are mine... so thanks for the profit whoever you were.
erm while I have your ear, you sold ~27k but left  53.82919159 in the order ... offer is still good Smiley

What a fool puts the speed on the pool 200 GH/s , reducing all the profits from the coin

Somebody with a lot of graphics-cards.

"reducing all the profits from the coin". Please explain.

PS: I have done some math. I guess the guy you are looking for have exactly 458,7155963302752 GTX 980's. Each one running at 0.436 GH/s.

PPS: And hashrate went up to 231,530,447 KH/s. Are we fiddling with afterburner here ? ;-)
PPPS: Estimated daily output falls as the hours go and hashrate (and difficulty) goes up. So the dance probably stops unless this maniac makes graphics cards, electricity and housing out of thin air. Only way out of this mess is price is going up.

The volume is being added to yobit as i see it here (China was on 99% half an hour ago. Now they are on 98.97%):
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/maxcoin/#markets

And,
"Circulating Supply
54,442,678 MAX"

That number does not change for some reason..

Guess that miner might be moving the rigs over to something else now!
.. upside ... finally some volume on youbit
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps 2.1 UPDATE REQUIRED - HARDFORK JULY 4 2014 to 200% Annual PoS on: June 29, 2017, 11:08:47 PM
Can this coin still be PoW mined? I tried for about 2 hours, but no blocks were found. Based on difficulty, I should have found about 20 over that period.

I've had some trouble locating the last PoW block but it looks like it's been days, weeks, maybe even months since one was found. Everything is PoS.

Having trouble connecting, anyone got a nodes list? Not finding one handy. Thanks
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/hbn/#!network

Most links parse or whatever automatically, but if they have a symbol like # etc you have to make it an url

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/hbn/#!network without formatting

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/hbn/#!network with formatting

Anyway fairly lot of nodes, probably people staking

One person on 0.7.5/
Thirty eight people on 1.5.0/
Sixty people on 1.5.1/
Two people on 1.5.2/

Not sure how important it is to run the latest version of wallet

add
1.5.2 doesn't seem to be released yet, https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/releases , so most people are not far behind

Well I didn't want to make it to handy, you know, like Google "hobonickels nodes list" and clicking 5th link down.

but you're welcome .... Smiley
