At what temp did you measure the total wattage? I've noticed all my PSUs and equipment go up in wattage use as temp goes up. I imagine it's that plus the breaker itself being affected as well. Interesting link below.

162  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint T1 16TH/S halongmining.com on: June 21, 2018, 05:48:47 PM
Oh yeah, the room has easily been equal to or more than the outside temp. AT one point I had gone up in the attic and did not properly close the attic entrance so the miners were actually pulling hot air out of the attic which resulted in some 100+ degree room temps. Only my Dec 14TH S9 reach 90 dec C.

We are going off topic, if you'd like to continue this discussion you can reply to my duct post or make a new one in support. Otherwise mods will delete this convo.

I have one for $100 in crypto .

Will you do escrow?

164  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint T1 16TH/S halongmining.com on: June 21, 2018, 05:31:29 PM
Excellent. Really helpful input. On to plan D.  Thanks! (I have learned the whole vacuum factor lesson of venting the air outside.)

As long as the duct runs are of reasonable length and size it can be a good solution. I have 5 ASICs and 1 GPU rig in my garage with nothing more than the side door open and they are managing the Texas heat OK. It's not ideal, but it meets my goals for now. I honestly thought that once outside temps hit 95+ F I'd have to shut them down, but so far so good.

I'd recommend semi-rigid ducting and no smaller than 6" diameter per miner. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2796117.0
165  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Ducting on: June 20, 2018, 11:01:22 PM
Dear smart people, I'm reworking my rig with a series of ducting, fans, etc. I'm amazed by the differences that subtle changes can make.

I have 5 asic miners in an insulated plywood box about 44" x 44". I'm thinking of running 6" ducts from each of these to lead outside of the box and combining a few of them (all of them?) into an 8" duct with an inline vortex fan. The fan can displace over 750 cfm. I'll then lead the one 8" duct about 30ft out a window or basement wall (will need to drill a hole or modify window...nbd either way). Also, can i step down the 8" to a 6" duct further down the line...maybe 10 feet down the line from the inline fan?

One a side note, I plan on reversing the flow of air from out to in during the winter months and pipe the hot exhaust directly into my hvac ducting to warm my house. I'm already siphoning some of the cold ac air from a nearby duct directly into the asic units...works like a champ!

Any thoughts on these ideas? I know that the math doesn't quite work out, but I can make some quick mods and exhaust 1-3 of the miners directly into my unfinished basement area without much of an issue. As most of you already know, I, fortunately, learned the hard way that offsetting the exhaust by 1 or 2 units eases the load on the others...less hot exhaust to displace=cooler air=cooler boards=less work for fans=less noise=less energy used=saved $.

Sadly, I've almost forgotten about making $, because I'm fascinated by the science of making the system more efficient! Such a fun project.

Thank you for your honest feedback!

You'll have problems, each miner is generating ~ 225CFM. So 5 of those are 1125 CFM plus you'll want some extra. If you merge all that airflow you'll need way bigger ducting than 8", and on top of that you're running it 30'.
166  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: The Squeeze is comin! [official thread for panicking] on: June 20, 2018, 10:52:07 PM
Yes, when mining goes unprofitable you have options.

Shut the machines down and sell <-- To me that's the worst outcome, not only do you lose future gains, but miners are not worth much at the moment so it's a double loss

Shut the machines down <-- again you are losing future profits, but saving electricity and other upkeep costs

Continue mining at a loss <-- If you're able to sustain this you can sort of look at it as just buying the coin

Look at other SHA256 coins. I have to admit, I've been giving profit switching and merged mining a look. It takes more work, but I've been doing better than just straight BTC

Diversify! At the moment my Masternodes are easily helping to suppliment my physical miners. Obviously ROI applies.

Roll the dice and solo mine as a complete hail mary

Look for ways to be more efficient, using coupons and eBay I am going to sell my most inefficient miners and replace with the most efficient I can afford, thus lowering total wattage used and bumping hashrate a bit
167  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer s9 set a target temperature? on: June 20, 2018, 10:29:22 PM
Now I just love my 2 S9's. They are running on my enclosed porch. I would like to add code to power off the units if I'm away and the temp exceeds a set temperature.

I can use teamviewer to remote to my PC and check, but it would be really nice to not have to worry about it.

I believe the one that runs a little hotter did it's own poweroff, but I would like to lower the target temp ;-)

Look at Awesomeminer it'll do that plus a lot more. The question becomes, how will you turn it back on?
168  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Newbie Miner FIRST Rig in route (Antminer S9) - Outlet/Plug question on: June 17, 2018, 07:45:34 PM
Cancel your order, as mentioned you have no warranty unless you order from Bitmain. I imagine you paid a pretty good premium over Bitmain's direct price as well.

Second, just so you know there's not just one type of outlet for 220v. Again, like mentioned look over the NEMA plug pictures on the Internet. And please stop guessing on wire gauge!

Don't try to cludge it together, at the least you'll be out money, at the most you could hurt yourself or your family. I'd wait until you move and then either use an existing 220v outlet or have one installed.

I'm going to take credit for the blocks, I just pointed my 5 ASICs at Kano Smiley
171  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Canaan releases the "Moose" - Stackable unit containing 12 x 841 ready to mine. on: June 15, 2018, 03:17:15 PM
That's pretty cool, I wish the pictures were zoomed out more so I could see the whole thing better. I'm not sure about the price though, with the current low BTC price and difficulty it'd be hard to build a good ROI. Also the first thing people are going to do is compare 12 S9i's to it without taking in to account the price for the wiring, chassis, and other parts to make it a turn key unit.
172  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: What are your temps today? on: June 13, 2018, 01:34:01 AM
I've tried one drive and Google links and they keep getting distorted once they land in the post about being suspicious. I looked in the help section to no avail. Sorry.

Use imgur and then just post the links to the image.
173  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s9 very high temperature on: June 09, 2018, 04:27:10 AM
I'd say either a heat sink has fallen off or is barely making contact or you have something in the miner. A while back my old S7 sucked in a giant moth, I couldn't find out what was making the one chip run hot until I pulled the hash boards and there was that moth wedged in the heat sink fins all burnt to a crisp.
174  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Prevent dust from collecting on S9 intake fan grate? on: June 03, 2018, 02:23:38 AM
What's the best way to filter out tiny dust? The filters in now don't seem to catch fine dust/sand particles and they just build up on the intake fan grate (see pic):

Holy crap! I think you need to do more than just filter the miner. You need to filter ALL the air coming in!
175  Economy / Goods / Immersion cooling - Better to use a Biodegradable non-toxic coolant on: June 02, 2018, 11:39:36 PM
While silicone oils have excellent material compatibility it actually has a fairly low heat density when compared to other coolants that are available for use in cooling bit mining rigs.

Engineered Fluids BitCool BC-888 is a biodegradable, non-toxic, non-corrosive dielectric coolant with a heat density of over 1600x that of air that was specifically designed for use with ASIC based mining devices.  It is significantly cheaper than Novec and available to anyone that wishes to purchase it in quantities from 20L to over 200K liters.

The best part about using BitCool is that its safe for you and safe for the environment.   Silicone oils never breakdown and are very difficult to clean up once they applied to a device.   Engineered Fluids also has a special dielectric cleaning solvent designed specifically to remove BitCool and allow you to transfer the device back to air cooled applications.

For those of you that are interested in Single Phase, Liquid Immersion Cooling but don't understand the architecture, Engineered Fluids will send you a document with information on how to build a system, and what materials to use.

Just something to check out if you are seriously considering immersion cooling.

Looking at your website you guys are in Tyler, I am in Ft. Worth. Do you also mine? If so I'd be interested to see this fluid in action.
176  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 4in Shrouds vs 6in Shrouds what makes a miner cooler? on: May 30, 2018, 09:52:59 PM
The system I have now is 19 miners with most of them hooked up to 4in ducting. They are all on racks. The ducts lead to a box which has a massive fan inside venting the heat outside. I might post some photos later. Its mess still and im looking to move to a commercial spot as I have another 20 miners I cant hook up due to not enough electric.

One thing to keep in mind if you do comparison tests to make Copernicus happy is that the shroud, the duct, and the junctions all need to be large enough to accommodate the airflow. So if you put a 6" duct on, but neck it down at the junction you won't be gaining anything.

Just FYI.
177  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 4in Shrouds vs 6in Shrouds what makes a miner cooler? on: May 29, 2018, 09:58:38 PM
Love your post. Your officially an idiot according to person 2 because you have no proof and your just trying to "sell product".

LOL, I'm not even selling it. Honestly I wish my friend would have just posted the file vs. selling, but hey, it's his choice.

Tell you what, do you have an S9? Pretty sure I've got some different size duct adapters laying around. I'll send them to you, you and Einstein test them yourselves then send them back.

I am fast approaching some 100-105 deg F days. I will post my room and miner temps.
179  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 4in Shrouds vs 6in Shrouds what makes a miner cooler? on: May 29, 2018, 06:12:45 PM
Ok, so having a debate with somebody and hopefully somebody on here can answer this question with an explanation. The shrouds I am refering to are https://www.ebay.com/itm/AntMiner-S1-S3-S5-S7-S9-L3-120mm-Fan-Duct-Cooling-Shroud-to-4-Inch-Vent-Sampler/132534314729?hash=item1edba926e9:g:tjsAAOSw4qxapTmo (Thats the 4in version, 6in same thing but 6 inches in diameter.)

I believe I had read on a thread here sometime that 6in ran cooler than 4in, I cant find it, if somebody does and can post it would be appreciated.

Ok so the debate is, will 6in intake and exhaust make the miner run cooler than a 4in. One person says yes, bigger size more airflow. One person says no, the airflow will be the same since the limiting factor is the inside of the miner. Since the inside is the "choke point" 4 or 6 inches wont make a difference. Peoples opinions on this?

Person 2 is citing Bernoulli's principle as proof that 4 or 6 wont make a difference.

Here's my post, and yeah it made a big difference between 4" and 6" on my S9. Person 2 needs to stop Googling Smiley

180  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: What are your temps today? on: May 25, 2018, 06:26:07 PM
Here's mine, this is with 92F outside and 95.3F inside the room with nothing more than an open door. This is all miners except the GPU miner vented outside with 6" duct. The GPU rig is simply an open air rig. It's funny I was always worried about the M3s when outside temps were going up, but they run that temp pretty much year round...

I hope to have a proper room (16x4) with filters and 2x 3k CFM exhaust fans going soon so I can expand if I ever want to.

One thing I have definitely learned is that room temp has a pretty good effect on the PSUs. Something I definitely overlooked in my research. I bet I have close to a 3-400W difference between summer time PSU usage vs winter time usage (you can see the day vs night temp differences in the graphs below). Sadly I did not have "smart" PDUs when everything when it was cold out so keep an eye on that. Not advocating cooling or not cooling, just illustrating what the PSUs do in different temps.
