I did it with bread wallet. Was very easy. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you. That appears to have what I'm looking for. I just don't understand why all apps don't allow this. You have to hunt for one.

It hasn't become. Since the principle has always been the same, it never changed.
Fine it's me. I don't care. Just help me get it done.

Don't import them to a centralized wallet. That's your first mistake. Try an app or program that doesn't store your private keys online. I suggest Mycelium or electrum.
Ok...I keep hearing about mycelium. But there isn't an iOS app, just android. So how could I use mycelium?

I'm getting extremely frustrated. I have a bunch of paper wallets and I can not find a clear way to import them in order to send them to Coinbase. I'm using iOS and a Mac, and I have blockchain.info wallet and Coinbase.
I can't find an import button on the new blockchain wallet, just legacy which I can't access.
Can someone save me from this madness and give me a clear path to getting paper wallets into Coinbase? (I don't use android)

I have bitcoins that are in paper wallets in a safe. But the price of bitcoin has been increasing and I want to put them in a position where I could convert some or all to USD on Coinbase if I choose to do so. But if I keep them in paper, it will take too long to import them and send to Coinbase.
If I keep them on Coinbase (which would be quickest way to sell), I risk loosing my coins if they go out of business. That said if coins are stolen they have reimbursed people.
An online wallet could work, but if coins are stolen they are gone, and I still have to wait to transfer them to Coinbase.
Any suggestions?

The subject says it all. I have a stack of paper wallets I made, and Coinbase no longer has a paper wallet import function. Anyone?

This may be a dumb question, but what is the point of a bitcoin exchange like coinbase new exchange? All traders are doing is exchanging BTC for USD. Seems like most trades are around market price. So why don't people just buy bitcoins at market price on Coinbase?
Like, no one is going to sell a Bitcoin for $1000, so there is no money to be made.
Am I missing something here? This is a serious question. Please explain to me what the point of coinbase exchange is at the present? Thanks

They caught the dude swith his laptop open signed in as administrator. He was facilitating the sale of drugs online and not paying taxes on his earnings.
Last time I checked those are serious crimes.
He knew what he was doing and took the risk anyway.
Don't cry for him.
Good for him, he was an important instrument in taking drugs and violence off the streets and providing a valuable service to millions. Oh I agree. The only thing that pisses me off about what he did is that he wasn't (or couldn't) pay taxes on his earnings. But what we "think" or "feel" is irrelevant. There are laws, and he broke them. He was not a freedom fighter he was an opportunists. He did it for the money. Don't fool yourself.

They are not crimes. People might call them crimes, but they are not. They are code violations. Unless he is employed by government, or unless he is a government official, or unless he has signed a contract with government to not do what he did, he is not liable for code violations. Nobody is liable for code violations without a contract. People are only liable for "wrongdoing," which is harming someone or damaging his property. The reason government wins in cases like this is, few people stand up as a man/woman and require their rights. You are wrong. You sound like one of those redemption theory pseudolegal conspiracy theorists. He broke laws. Whether or not you agree is irrelevant.

I call bullshit. No one with 100K to invest would ask such a dumb question in such a juvinile way. Will I make profit?
I call bullshit.

Satoshi is no god or some higher tier. He is also a human and maybe when he gets older he wants to buy a nice isle with a house.
So, why should he or any other early adopters would not "dump" his coins?
All his work would be useless if he didnt dump his coins, because then he wont have anything to live...and he wont be rich.
Meanwhile i think this perma dumping is done by someone like satoshi who was an early adopter and has "unlimited" amount of coins...
In the end, bitcoin gets stronger out of it because the coins are shared between more users, but the value will go down.
If satoshi dumped Bitcoin to hell his legacy would fall in ruins. He would just be one of the biggest scammers all time. Not everyone is a materialist, some people want to be remembered and live their life in peace. Technically speaking can you have a legacy if you are anonymous?

After reading all these responses, we have a real use case problem for Bitcoin. No one is giving me a really good compelling reason to get someone like my mom or my wife to convert money into Bitcoin, and then start using that for purchases or for sending people gifts etc.
The average person is too busy to care about their personal freedom, or about bank corruption, or about total ownership, or about slightly lower fees, or about the speed at which money is transferred from point a to point B (which I think is overstated, because I recently had to transfer a big chunk of money as a down payment on my house and it got to my lawyer same day with a $20 fee. Big deal, he didn't need it in seconds.)
I think there is a clear lack of vision in the Bitcoin community. Technology is amazing, but we still need that killer use case that gets the mainstream to do something more complicated and a little scary.
|
|
|
You should start using bitcoin because you could make any payment in few seconds with low fee around the world.
Most people don't ever need to do this. Seriously, who needs to do this enough to adopt a whole new system of money? This is not a mainstream use case.
|
|
|
...because it let us take control of our money.
Most people feel they have control over their money. It's in the bank, FDIC insured. Bank fails, I get my money back up to $250,000. Oh, and most people live paycheck to paycheck.
|
|
|
Because our fiat is failing us and is controlled by corrupt individuals.
Normal people don't care. Yes they would like "less corruption" but this won't get one single user to start using bitcoin.
|
|
|
Start using bitcoin because it's different, fun to use and is the cheapest way to send money over the net.
This is the only reasonable answer that would apply to normal people so far, yet it shows a real use case problem for Bitcoin: 1) different: normal people hate different. They crave the familiar. Geeks like things because they are newer and different. 2) fun to use: this is money. Most people won't switch to something more complicated because it is fun to use. And in my opinion it's only fun to use because we like geeky stuff. 3) cheapest way to send money over the net: ok, this one maybe people will understand. People like to save money. But I mentioned to my parents that Bitcoin is so cool, because you can send 1milion dollars from point A to point B with no fees. And they said...of you had a million dollars to send, do you really think you'd care about the $20 transfer fee? zing! They shut me up!
|
|
|
In ONE sentence. Explain why Bitcoin makes sense for the average person. I like it because I'm a geek, but when people ask me why THEY should care about Bitcoin, I have a hard time answering.
Let this be a thread for mainstream PR.
I want a good solid mainstream answer I can give people TODAY that doesn't include the words decentralization, inflation, cryptocurrency, the Feds, peer to peer, or Ron Paul.
You should start using Bitcoin because...

Do you think Bitcoin will enter the $200s at some point in the month of October? Your answer should consist of a YES or a NO followed by an explanation if desired.
I'll start...
