I recently purchased some Gold and Silver on uphold.com
I'm thinking it's a nice addition to my Bitcoins Solarcoins and Litecoins.

Support was pleasantly interested when I messaged them about the addition of a Solarcoin card. They are definitely thinking about adding new currencies that go well with their concept. I think Solarcoin fits right in!

You can sign up using my referral link to get 5$ for free if you don't have an account yet Smiley

https://uphold.com/signup?utm_campaign=refprog&utm_medium=slarquie

Once you have signed up you can switch between a list of different currencies mostly for free.

Don't forget to message them to add a SLR card. Maybe a few more requests is all they need to start really thinking about it!
(you have to verify to get the 5$ for free..it takes less than 5 minutes).

So I joined up via your link I hope you get your share.  Im in the UK so buying BTC for GBP isnt the easiest process, the Uphold documentation process was pretty slick, easier than other places I tried.
Im hoping this will allow me to fund the GBP card and go to BTC, then move to an exchange and go for SLR.  I raised a ticket requesting SLR direct, of course!
The only negative is 3-5 day wait for bank transfer from my bank to the Uphold account, in UK we have instant domestic bank-bank transfers so waiting for days seems very slow, but its pretty cheap if it really is 0% charge!

$5000 buy gets us near a buck.

I'm pretty sure that by the end of the year if everything is going as planned with the coin we may have a successful landing on the MOON  Cheesy This coin now is like a BOMB preparing itself to explode  Grin I can't believe that people are not buying it  Roll Eyes

The buying seems to have subsided but most of the increase has been retained, thats the kind of progress I have been hoping for.  I have been tweeting and posting on reddit about what Im calling altru-coins of which Solarcoin is one.

Hi all I managed to get the wallet installed on Lubuntu, but Im having a problem I cant find where its installed.
I looked in usr/share/applications/ where all the other programs are but Solarcoin isnt there, does anyone know where it is?
Asked on the ubuntu help and they said the wallet errored when installing, is there any technical support?

So is it possible to compile solarcoin for a Raspberry Pi running Ubuntu, has anyone managed it?

If anyone could spare some coins so I can start staking it'd be appreciated 8ZaxzKRPx9fdpTJYQ8H4LddXSKgb6cR6X2

1k on the way.. welcome to the team  Cheesy

Welcome to the community!

What would be a good amount of Solarcoin to have in my wallet for staking?

A couple hundred thousand will get you a decent amount of blocks a day. However the sell order book on bittrex is very thin, so it might be impossible to buy that many coins without making the price go through the roof...

Guess I'll just sit on what I have then T don't have the coinage for a few 100k... Thanks again.
I bought about 5k SLR and Im staking blocks every other day, you should try and buy in a bit

Would it actually be possible to run a full Solarcoin client on a Raspberry Pi and stake?

I am currently running my node using a 400 Watt PC, and it's starting to show in my power bill :p

I purchased a mini pc which runs at virtually nothing and I leave it on 24/7 and it's ticking along nicely generating those coins.

You can pick up the new VivoMini UN42 for around £199 UK and this runs at only 6.5w

Here is the link https://www.asus.com/uk/Mini-PCs/VivoMini_UN42/

That is a REALLY cool PC for long term use, but its pricey, is way too powerful for just an SLR Wallet program, & it doesn't even have a monitor that I can see.. here is an HP made laptop that has all you need and arguably runs at an even lower power consumption rate when the screen and all other programs are disabled >>

Not as cheap as a Pi, but getting there...As notebooks get cheaper and more power efficient I bet we will even see some sold WITH solar panels right out of the box  Smiley

Thank you guys! I might just try and run the wallet on a raspberry pi Smiley still a lot cheaper than buying a noteook or a mini pc!
Im waiting for my PiGrid to arrive I hope when it does I will be able to get SLR on there too which can then stake 24/7

I have noticed when I exit the wallet the process fails to close and I have to close it.  Win 10 x64

Win 10 problem most likely, the NSA has to check your wallet before you close it. lol
Im in the UK so they subcontract that to GCHQ 😁
If the devs could check it out as it would be very confusing for newbies, if you try to relauch you then get errors cos it cant get a lock.

As a domestic claimant I do feel the RoI on this coin is incredibly small, I have a ~4kW array which in the UK is the max for a private person and I will get ~ 6 SLR per year, even if it goes to $20 per SLR, thats a pretty small carrot on the end of a stick that many people just dont understand right now.  I was already experimenting with crypto so for me its not an issue.

You need to get solar installers to claim on behalf of their clients or to use it as support for the industry.  Ill be talking to my installer about it, especially in the UK as FiT is being cut from .12 to .02 per kWh and they are gonna need all the help they can get.

I sound negative, Im really not but the barriers to entry are high.

Thanks for chiming in.  There are some things underway to help with making SolarCoin grow, these will be posted to the site in the coming weeks.  The SolarCoin Foundation is now a US Public Benefit Corporation.

There are conversations ongoing with Affiliates to build out websites and share technology in US, EU and Japan.

The EU team is applying for VC and working on Tech incubator applications.

We are on #slack and setting up a weekly standing call for marketing and outreach.

There is also some work being done for Simple 2-3 minute cartoon explanations of SolarCoin and Currency dynamics using powtoons by the foundation.

All of this will be updated and released in the coming weeks.

If you know of solar developers interested please let me know. I will introduce them to affiliate site builders. If you know of people who would like to set-up affiliate sites or sub-affiliates (sub license) tech under the hood from affiliates PM me and I will introduce you.  There are many countries and territories wide open.  Affiliates get a % of claimants as a referal payment from the foundation.  Our focus is on developer and Claimant outreach.

This is going to be done with messaging, marketing and biz dev relationships via a country and regional affiliate/ sub affiliate network using web based wallets, direct inverter tie-ins to the blockchain and other tech.  I am happy to put technologists, solar developers and others in touch.

Just FYI a $20 SLR on a 5KW roof over 25 years= 187.5 SLR= $3,750 so it is interesting at the margin.  a 5KW system in the US would cost about $20k. http://www.solar-nation.org/how-much-does-a-solar-system-cost-these-days  As the cost of solar installs goes down that marginal incentive becomes more interesting.  If one assumes each claimant produces $800 in value to the currency network https://www.zapchain.com/a/93TL8NKGHF  a $20/SLR price point  assuming 100m circulating float requires 2.5m participants. A big number but not impossible in the context of global energy and a current 6m solar generators growing 20-30% annually.
Good to hear this work is ongoing, I think you will need industry partners to get the word out and help de-mystify crypto for the average man in the street.  Im up for my first year maintenance call from my installer, Ill definately talk to them about Solarcoin and if they are interested I will get in touch.

LOVE this idea... how would you have the installers distribute the coin to their customers once done? Would you have them give it out in advance or simply dump them into some kind of online wallet attached to their PV account?

Also I agree that the coin could go to $100 each & that may still not be enough for most people these days ROI-wise, but hopefully if this coin lasts decades then one day it will be so cheap to buy PV you might as well sign up for SLR too as that could help you pay off the system you bought much faster.

My mind is exploding right now.. thanks for the feedback!!
Ha ha glad I could blow your mind. I think the installers could see if clients want the SLR directly, if not it could be set off against maintenance/cleaning costs, thats like a little loyalty programme for the installer.

Another thought I had was about integrating Solarcoin.  I have Enphase inverters and I keep reading that they consider themselves a software company not a hardware company, they are gathering tons of data that must be costing them a fair bit, seems like they could be doing that in the blockchain.  Solarcoin could be a great fit for them in terms of additional revenue/loyalty points.

Can we bring the coin to another exchanges? If it get to Cryptsy I think more people will know about it and be interested in to buy. And now since there is no more mining, the price must skyrocket - that last week was an example about how a small amount of BTC can drive the price UP, the problem is that more people need to know about the coin and more exchanges need to accept it. Once more people buy it, the price will go UP and eventually companies that produce solar energy will be more interested to claim their coins. What do you guys think?

Yes, let's work on that.
I will be also accepting SLR payments (with big discount, plus thorough explanations on how to get SLR) on my money markets historical data website - will be using the CoinPayments.net API, since CoinPayments already have SolarCoin on their online crypto payments acceptance system. Expecting first customers as early as next week  Smiley

Where is the twitter campaign with #solarcoin, where are the facebook likes?  Its up to everyone holding SLR to get the message out, then the exchanges will come to you.

Hello, Im trying to understand with PoST if its pointless to stake intermittently, I ususally run my machine 10 hours a day.

I understand continous staking is rewarded higher, but is intermittent staking worth it from an itnerest perspective?

It really only depends on how much coin you have. If you only make a few SLR a day then the only reason to PoST is just to support the network. The more wallets the better the network. So if you want to actually make it worth while then buy a ton of coin and you will eventually get better rewards but you are up against some huge wallets for sure. But it goes by coin age so once those wallets go through their coin your coin will be the next rewarded. Once you stake it resets the age. So you will eventually average out. The larger the wallet the more attempts they get to stake. So make a big wallet if you want to compete or just support the network if it is worth it to you. This was part of the problem in price vs reward to sustain the network but fortunately there are many who will always be staking 24/7 and many of those don't sell coin either so they leave the door open to boost the price if you decide to buy.

Can you use numbers.  What is considered a large amount of slr. So far there is about 33 million in circulation.  How much would you need to really compete?

My 70,000 coins made a few SLR a day. Depends on what you consider worth while. A few pennies a day. I would say to go up against some of the bigger wallets around 200,000 or so. You still may not make it worth while. If the price changes then it would be worth it for sure at 70,000. 2 Dollars a day wouldn't be bad if SLR were 1 Dollar. But you would be better off selling the 70K at that point since it is $70,000.
What Im seeing is with any amount of SLR the estimated time to stake is the same when i start in the morning, typically 2 days and increases throughout the day to be 7 or 8 days by the time I log off at night.  This is the same whether I have 150 or 4500 SLR.
What I am trying to find out is if my stake time from yesterday has any value today, if the wallet wasnt staking continuously.  If it did I would expect my 'coin age' to gradually increase and the time to stake gradually reduce, Im not seeing that right now.

Well PoST incentivizes consistent staking so leaving your wallet online is a factor but your stakes divide up against the network eventually. So whatever the value out is to make it worth it for you is what I am meaning. Obviously if it isn't worth it people won't stake plain and simple. You get more opportunities to stake with more coin just for the mere fact that your coin will be releasing and staking more. If your entire wallet splits and then eventually stakes you will have nothing left to stake while you wait for it to release. 2 percent inflation is what you can expect to average on your coin.
Thanks for the answers, so I understand that my coin age should build up to at some point give me enough weight in the network to stake and get paid 2% interest.
What is the financial benefit of staking 24/7 whats the additional incentive?

I am thinking delete roaming solarcoin folder then start from scratch but make sure you backup first! to a safe location.

run- appdata- roaming- solarcoin

I deleted everything (all SLR folders, files ect. apart from wallet.dat), uninstalled Solarcoin, manually stopped the process from task manager, restarted my machine, re-installed the new .exe and finally Im upgraded.
Thanks.

Hi, my Solarcoin wallet is broken, I cant upgrade, and it appears I cant uninstall version 2.0.1.

When I install 2.0.7. the wallet still reports as 2.0.1, however in my uninstall programs its listed as 2.0.7.

The in-wallet update feature cannot close the applications it needs to, so that upgrade path fails as well.

Can I get some help?

Sorry noob questions:
With PoST will my Stake Time be saved and aggregated if the wallet isnt staking continuously? For example if i staked for 4 hours on Monday and 3 hours on Tuesday would I have 7 hours of Stake Time?

Is there a way to auto unlock for staking? On start the wallet needs to be manually unlocked AFAIK.

I only have a small balance of SLR (about 2.5), I assume that will reduce my chance of staking a block versus wallets with larger amounts?

Thanks.
