Politico: Jeb Bush shakes up his campaign team

He announced that Danny Diaz, a 39-year-old consultant known for his aggressive style, would serve as his campaign manager.

Struggling to establish his own brand and regain his footing in the early voting states where he lost ground, Jeb Bush shuffled his political team Monday just one week ahead of his expected official campaign announcement.

The former Florida Republican governor announced that Danny Diaz, a 39-year-old consultant known for his aggressive style, would serve as his campaign manager in place of Dave Kochel, an operative with deep experience in Iowa politics who had been brought aboard earlier this year and was widely expected to serve as in that capacity.

The surprise move came after several tumultuous weeks for Bush and amid recent polling that suggesting his standing has fallen both in national polls and in the key early state of Iowa.
Bush’s campaign-in-waiting said Monday that while Diaz would handle the campaign’s day-to-day operations, Kochel would “build and oversee a political operation to achieve success in the early states and beyond.”

One person briefed on the moves, revealed as Bush flew to Europe, said the final decision rested with Bush’s top adviser, Sally Bradshaw, who had watched with dismay as Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker appeared to run without the stumbles that plagued the two-term Republican governor.
“Sally and company felt like they were losing the media battle to Walker and Rubio. Last week this decision was made,” the source said. “Kochel found out last week.”

Those Pumping Rubio, Crying Victim Over Crony Capitalism/Fiscal Irresponsibility News

It looks like they're going to try and spin this to favor Rubio as a "victim" of NY Times reporting.

To sum it up, it appears Rubio got "favors" (money) for promises he made to businesses into his various PAC funds, but used those monies to "live a life beyond his means". Yet, he reported having a low net worth to appear poor.

You really have to read all the info, just to see how corrupt Rubio is. This info also kept Romney from choosing him as a VP in 2012.

Chafee: Let’s Go Metric, Bring Snowden Home

Ban capital punishment, halt drone strikes and bring home Edward Snowden.

These are a few of the radical proposals unveiled by Lincoln Chafee in his low-key, no-frills presidential campaign announcement Wednesday evening.

Standing before a bland white wall in front of a sparse audience at a George Mason University venue in Arlington, Virginia, Chafee – the former Republican U.S. senator turned independent Rhode Island governor – became the fourth official Democratic candidate for the White House in 2016.

Chafee delivered on his promise of bold, different ideas, which explains why he may be the biggest long shot in this cycle's sprawling field of candidates.

His most unique proposition: Transferring the United States to the metric system.

"Here's a bold embrace of internationalism: Let's join the rest of the world and go metric. Only Myanmar, Liberia and the United States aren't metric and it will help our economy," Chafee said. "It doesn't take long before 34 degrees is hot."

One voter shows up at Santorum event in Iowa

At first, one was the loneliest number for Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Monday.

Just one Iowan showed up at 2 p.m. campaign stop Monday at a restaurant in the unincorporated community of Hamlin, population 300, according to a report from The Des Moines Register — Peggy Toft, an insurance agent who chairs the county’s Republican Party.

“We didn’t have a lot of notice that he was going to be there,” Toft said in a telephone interview with POLITICO, explaining the low turnout.

But even she would not endorse Santorum outright.

The Audubon County Republican chair said that she is “leaning” toward supporting Santorum but has not yet made a decision about whom she would support in the caucus.

Bachelor Lindsey Graham promises a 'rotating first lady'

“Well, I’ve got a sister. She could play that role if necessary,” the 59-year-old South Carolinian presidential hopeful told Daily Mail Online in an interview published Tuesday. “I’ve got a lot of friends. We’ll have a rotating first lady,” he added.

His sister, Darline Graham Nordone, resides in South Carolina with her husband and two daughters from previous marriages, suggesting that she would not be able to be in Washington all the time.

The romance with Rand Paul is gone Roll Eyes

Rand Paul’s presidential campaign, by many recent accounts, is sputtering. The candidate, according to the Atlantic’s Molly Ball, is “flailing.” His campaign, reports National Journal’s Josh Kraushaar, has been called a “disaster.”*

These judgments, even if true, are provisional. Pretty much any candidate in the Republican pack is one killer debate performance, one strong poll result, one especially good fundraising report away from a narrative of resurgence.

But there is little question that the initial, ineffable appeal of the Paul campaign has faded. In March 2013, when Paul filibustered against the government’s possible use of Hellfire missiles to murder civilians in San Francisco cafes and Houston restaurants — this seemed to make sense to some people at the time — many conservatives were swept away. “His voice, once lonely,” wrote Noah Rothman, “grew in stature. . . . It was poetic. It was romantic.”*

Compare this with Paul’s recent filibuster of the Patriot Act. The Senate gallery was staged with supporters wearing “Stand With Rand” T-shirts. Paul’s online campaign store offered a “filibuster starter pack” for $30, including a “spy blocker” for your computer’s video camera and a shirt reading “The NSA knows I bought this Rand Paul tshirt.” Paul’s Senate colleagues found themselves dragged into the middle of an infomercial. And many were not pleased.

Once it was Mr. Smith goes to Washington. Now it is Mr. Smith uses Senate procedure to conduct a fundraising campaign on a national security issue that he distorts to serve his political interests.

The romance is gone. The bitterness and conspiratorial hints remain. Paul recently blamed the rise of the Islamic State on Republican “hawks.” Under pressure, Paul conceded, “I could have stated it better.” But this was a gaffe of excessive clarity.*no it wasn't Paul’s foreign policy libertarianism is founded on the belief that an aggressively fought war against terrorism actually produces terrorism — that the United States has somehow earned the enmity it faces....

Rand Paul Establishment Derangement Syndrome - hit piece

Over the past two years, a new political illness has broken out and infected establishment Republicans since Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has risen in prominence.

When I say establishment, I am referencing the RINOs who are constantly complaining about the Tea Party, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and the idea of fighting for any issue of importance to the conservative movement. We all know a squishy Republican who fits that description.

More specifically, there are a handful of self-appointed guardians of the Republican Party who shudder at the thought of Rand Paul heading the Republican ticket next fall. They have a bad case of what I call “Rand Paul Derangement Syndrome.”

In the past week, this affliction has mutated and now is spreading like a pandemic. The cause was Sen. Paul’s victory in scaling back President Obama’s NSA spying program.

Just take a look at the latest from Michael Gerson of the Washington Post. Gerson may have the most advanced case.

Rand Paul's civil liberties breakthrough

In a campaign that is shaping up as the battle of the boring, the contest of the consultants and the nastiness of name-calling, let's give credit to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) for his leadership on the floor of the U.S. Senate in his battle to protect the privacy of Americans against excessive eavesdropping.

Agree with Paul or not — and I agree with much of what he says when he warns against the dangers of the bulk collection of intelligence — he has injected substance and purpose to the presidential campaign. Good for him. He has been attacked for taking this stand of principle to raise money for his campaign. If donors want to support him because he battles for their privacy against Big Brother, good for them!
...
Paul received the attention of the nation on a major issue because he earned it by taking a stand on an issue of paramount importance. If every candidate in both parties would find an issue of equal magnitude on which to take an important stand of principle, as Paul did, we would have a better campaign.

I hope Rand Paul continues and escalates this issue, as I suspect he will. It will be hotly discussed in the GOP presidential debates, as it should be, which could well continue his breakthrough moment.

BRUCE FEIN (constitutional lawyer): Rand Paul is right: Neocons created ISIS

Sen. Rand Paul is spot on. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was created and is fueled by Mr. Paul’s lobotomized neoconservative rivals.

In other words, to paraphrase Walt Kelly’s Pogo about the Vietnam War, Mr. Paul’s foreign policy detractors have met the enemy, and they are them!

With the predictability of the sun rising in the East and setting in the West, power vacuums in primitive political cultures give birth to extremists — religious or otherwise. There are no exceptions. Ruthlessness and fanaticism flourish in a Hobbesian state of nature.

Israel gave birth to Hamas by crippling the Palestinian Liberation Organization and Yasser Arafat’s dominant Fatah faction.

Hezbollah emerged from a power vacuum in Lebanon.

Al Qaeda and Taliban were created by a power vacuum in Afghanistan following the ouster of Soviet troops in 1989.

Iran’s radical Shiite regime is the offspring of the power vacuum created by the 1979 overthrow of the shah.

Despite the obvious, Mr. Paul’s deluded Republican opponents bugled for the overthrow of Iraq’s secular President Saddam Hussein in 2003 heedless of the power vacuum that would ensue. Saddam was a fierce antagonist of Iran’s ruling mullahs, against whom he had warred (with U.S. support) for eight years, 1980-88. No-fly zones and sanctions had crippled Saddam’s capacity to threaten the United States. But the neocons insisted on an invasion and the obliteration of Saddam and the ruling Baath Party to save the world from imaginary weapons of mass destruction and to erect a model democracy for the region.

After Saddam’s ouster and death, Iraq predictably became convulsed by internecine warfare and strife between Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds featuring an unstable and extremist sectarian central government allied with Iran. A splinter group of al Qaeda (which itself was armed and trained by the United States to fight the Soviet Union in Afghanistan), ISIS was born by a U.S.-generated power vacuum in Iraq. ISIS also took root and grew from a complementary power vacuum in Syria, which neocons fortified by urging the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and training Sunni rebels.

NH Gravis Poll: Rand tied for 2nd at 13%

Interesting new poll of primary voters in New Hampshire by Gravis - which is all over the place IMO.

Jeb in a scorching lead of 21% at the moment (likely an outlier); Rand tied for second with Walker around 13%.

Rand scores 40% among voters with their religious affiliation set as "Other" and 21% among voters 18-49, falling to 6% area in the 50+ Age range. Only scores 2.5% among voters labeled "Protestant".

Sadly didn't include a General Election matchup, those are always the most interesting these days IMO.

Why post this? Could this have a hidden meaning -- a donut is also a symbol for zero. If Friday was day zero then Gemini could launch tomorrow.  Wink

Them be some fancy donuts!
I agree I think it could be a hidden message, no purpose on posting this unless Tyler or Cameron accidentally thought they were logged in on their personal account and wanted to post a picture of the gourmet donuts they were being served. I'm thinking it's a sign... 4 days until launch? THey posted it on the 5th so that would mean they are launching Wednesday the 9th. They could also explain the mini pump we saw today, for those that have inside info.

Either that or they are projecting 4 0s - donuts on the end of the price w/ that post (aka $2300) soon after their operations get up and running.

The White House today denied that Pres. Obama had said at a Mob sit-down over in Germany that the strength of the dollar was a problem. Which obviously was interpreted as a confirmation that he had in fact stated exactly that.
Interesting that he had a stiff drink prior to noon over there earlier yesterday. The point you made could be clouded by that in some instance or he could just be plum crazy.

I understand how a pyramid scheme works, and how uneducated fools are attracted to them. That's one of the main reasons that made me win  a nice sum of money, when bitcoin was light and attractive enough to have a profitable inflow of greater fools.

Bitcoin is here to stay. You did great selling at 1K because the price was bubbled, but it's a different story thinking it's game over because "the pump" happened. If you don't see it then you are looking far enough into the future. There will be way bigger bubbles than the 1K one.
No kidding, so many people have been burned in recent times that they haven't the foggiest clue/idea about how bull markets work. Things get out of hand on the upward flip in such a large way and times are soon a changing.

1638  Other / Politics & Society / CIA director agrees with Ron Paul, admits bad foreign policy makes US less safe on: June 09, 2015, 05:48:09 AM
He’s only about a decade behind the times, but it’s good to see CIA director John Brennan acknowledging that bad foreign policy can make us less safe by angering and encouraging the very people we’re trying to stop. Here’s the quote, via The Intercept:

I think the president has tried to make sure that we’re able to push the envelope when we can to protect this country. But we have to recognize that sometimes our engagement and direct involvement will stimulate and spur additional threats to our national security interests.

Brennan here is recognizing what libertarians and other proponents of responsible foreign policy like Ron Paul have been saying for years.
...
Here’s how the victim of one American bomb strike put it (emphasis added):

“Just six days ago, my village was struck by a drone, in an attack that terrified thousands of simple, poor farmers,” Farea Al-Muslimi told the Senate Judiciary Committee in a hearing on the legality of the drone war. “The drone strike and its impact tore my heart, much as the tragic bombings in Boston last week tore your hearts and also mine.”

“What radicals had previously failed to achieve in my village,” al-Muslimi said, “one drone strike accomplished in an instant: there is now an intense anger and growing hatred of America,” adding that he has “seen Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula use US strikes to promote its agenda and try to recruit more terrorists.”

What Brennan, Paul, and I are describing is blowback, a term that was actually invented by the CIA to describe the unintended, negative consequences of a foreign policy action. Acknowledging blowback doesn’t mean blaming the victim of terrorist attacks, but it does require us to examine our foreign policy to see if—in provoking already volatile populations—we’re actually making ourselves less safe.

1639  Other / Politics & Society / Feds plot course to resume NSA spying on: June 09, 2015, 05:46:37 AM
The National Security Agency (NSA) is taking steps to turn its massive collection of Americans’ phone records back on.

After President Obama signed legislation last week to end the controversial program, the Justice Department submitted a legal memorandum to the secretive federal court justifying authorization for the NSA collection for another six months, as the new law allows.

“[T]he government respectfully submits that it may seek and this court may issue an order for the bulk production of tangible things” under the law, “as it did in ... prior related dockets,” the Justice Department said in its memo.

The legal analysis was submitted on Tuesday, less than an hour after the White House announced that the president had signed the USA Freedom Act into law. The memo was not revealed to the public until Monday.

Until the passage of the USA Freedom Act last week, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) routinely granted the NSA the ability to collect "metadata" about millions of Americans’ phone calls, including the numbers people dial and the length of their calls, but not their actual conversations.

Passage of the USA Freedom Act ended the metadata program, and creates a new system that forces the NSA to get a narrower set of records from private phone companies. But the law gives the agency six months to transition to the new system.

In its new filing, the Obama administration said that it should be allowed to continue the program for those extra six months, even after a top federal court ruled earlier this year that the program was illegal.

In Raleigh (NC), Donald Trump all but announces presidential bid

Billionaire businessman Donald Trump all but confirmed he’ll run for the Republican presidential nomination during a stop Saturday at the N.C. GOP convention.

Trump says he’ll make his formal announcement on June 16. “I think a lot of people are going to be very happy” with the decision, Trump told The News & Observer before a sold-out speech Saturday night. “They’re tired of watching America go down. ... It’s about making America great again. I can do it, and nobody else can do it.”

He made a point of using the phrase “if I run” in his speech but voiced frustration with a disclaimer: “June 16, will you come, please, fast – I’m so tired of saying that.”

Trump referred to the constantly growing field of Republican candidates as “clowns,” and said former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio have already made major gaffes.
