in TF, everyone knows who will generate next block.  whats to keep an attacker (who can also easily find out who should generate the next block) from DDOSing the hell out of that next generator?

Nothing. As I said u should forge behind Tor if u can't handle so much traffic. In the future we'll have companies that will work as a shield between small forgers and big transactions / DDoSers. U'll be just signing blocks and pay some % of the fees to such shielding companies. I won't be surprised if CloudFlare will be one of the pioneers in such business.

Can this be put in the wiki for casual users? Seems like important information for the average person who thinks he can casually forge without being subjected to an attack.
1622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 06:48:48 PM
We're already doing it, but I think in communications forging should be presented as a nice extra, instead of the basis of why to step into the coin.
Most people out there who trade cryptos have a "mining mindset" and come in with ideas of forging themselves wealthy. You know: "Earn $$$ in your BUTT!!!!!!"

Nót doing it that way is one of the things that sets NXT apart.
1623  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 06:23:56 PM
I'm not sure if this is the right place but I did a BTC withdrawing almost 5 days ago and it's still pending..
Anybody else experiencing problems like this one?

If it's pending, at least it's not out of his systems yet.
On a side note: I've never had any problems with DGEX myself. It may be slow sometimes (and 5 days is lóng), but it gets there in the end.
1624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 05:52:25 PM
Plan ahead, sure. I think implementing it should wait however. 1NXT is not that much and we already have people worrying about the distribution of NXT as it is. I would prefer to see it tied to volume and transaction total. Not to a fiat or even BTC price.

People don't think in terms of crypto prices yet, they tend to think in fiat terms.
When/if fiat currencies do collapse, then it'll make more sense to tie the fee to something else,
but now, even from the marketing standpoint, it sounds great when you say that the fee is only 10 cents, all people understand cents, fewer people understand exchange rates and how much it costs in crypto terms. But when you say 10 cents, everyone thinks - wow, so cheap, I gotta have a thorough look into this online currency.

This doesn't make any sense. NXT fees should be expressed in NXT. Period.

Some people (older people, like my mum) still sometimes calculate back from Euro to guilder. That's how long such changes can take.
People will need a reference point in the currency they are used to, otherwise they have no idea how to value it at the moment.
In time, that will change.
1625  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 02:32:18 PM
If all BTC is here ,that is 21million,and NXT is 1billion, so the biggest exchange for them is :1NXT=0.021BTC.
Is my  cognition right?

Only if the price stays linked with BTC.

1627  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Thread: Mine on: December 31, 2013, 01:27:21 PM
1 NXT = 1 vote

1 account = 1 vote

which one do you support?

I'd prefer 1 Nxt = 1 vote, with a built-in safety for hostile takeovers.
1628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Thread: Mine on: December 31, 2013, 12:38:05 PM
2) For Freezing accounts we need MINIMUM THRESHOLD OF 75% VOTES -- 750  Million Nxt....if we get 749,000,000 ...no freeze.

3) To destroy we need MINIMUM THRESHOLD OF 90% VOTES -- 900 Million Nxt[/b][/color]
In my point of view it'd not exist at all.
Discussing an issue like this is like trying to decide how to give the people a vote on whether to launch a nuclear weapon.

I agree with this.
Democracy is a good thing, but can be taken to ridiculous and dangerous lengths. It has the seeds for it's own destruction in it, in that not all members of a community will act in their own best interests, due to a variety of reasons. (One of the main one's being "Let's see what will happen if I push this GREAT RED BUTTON" Wink)
1629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 12:28:38 AM
You could charge for every hit coming from your alias. Like 0.000001NXT per redirection, or similar. So he only has to pay when the redirection already occured.

Something like this seems fair to me. Especially in the startup phase it would allow people to use the aliases they need, and give the owners something back, too. Win-win.
1630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 12:04:55 AM
I'm also thinking of a way to hire/rent out aliases, basically the way a domain now must be renewed every year. However, that constantly comes up against a huge trust wall where I can imagine someone would be wary of putting his redirect in my care. Can someone comment on that idea? Maybe it's just total crap.  Grin

If you hold many GOOD aliases then you could create such a service. People have to pay NXT to decide the URI of a few of those Aliases for a month. Smiley Good idea.

I'd think I own a fair share of both good and useful ones. Of course there are the usual vanity aliases, too, with which I will probably do nice things like contests to create some buzz in the community. No need to cash in on those, but fun to make someone happy with.

And there are probably some totally useless ones, too. Time will tell.  Smiley

edit: mnightwaffle: Tell me about it! I've spent days finding and entering mine!

22k.io Alias Browser and URL Shortener
Now with alias typeahead!

I'm still hacking along with various fun features. One of these days I'll do something with the design, but I'm keeping it practical for the moment.

Alias account
A small, cool update: the account that owns an alias is now displayed on the "info" page. Example: http://22k.io/22k/info

Someone squat your name? Try this:

1. Visit http://22k.io/YOURALIASHERE/info/.
2. Grab the account number.
3. Search forums for the number and send them an offer PM (if you find it).

In the future, I'll work on some "standards" for naming aliases so you could find contact info for an account by looking at it's list of aliases for one containing "contact" in it's name.

Typeahead GO box!

1. Visit http://22k.io/
2. Type in a letter and watch in amazement as aliases appear.
3. Repeat #2.

MASSIVE time saver to check if a name is registered. Enjoy!

You'll be so productive that you can't help sending me some nxt to keep coding! 22k dev account: 4915862015826193000

Thanks! More ideas?

PS - This is just a demo server setup. Please don't kill it.

Very nice! I'm a major aliasholder and could not be happier with all these features! Cheesy
Being able to put contact info would be good, although I personally would prefer that to be optional. I can imagine a scenario where I decide to keep some aliases for myself and not even want to negotiate. I would be unhappy with constant requests if I would sell, in that case.

Grin

Another thank you from a wiki translator to joefox for putting out the request Smiley
It's nice to know the work is appreciated.

Well, we're on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Coins-/11116/i.html?_from=R40&_sac=1&_nkw=NXT

Interesting price...

How can an account be 100000 (6 digits)? There's no passphrase you could put in the client to generate an account with so few characters.
You can. If you're lucky enough. Very lucky.

I think I'll just enter a lottery Smiley

Pass on this coin people. this is a hoax and they just want you to 'give' them your bitcoins,

and eventually they will just dissappear all of a sudden ( that is what i think )

Only true Nxt supporters were able to reach this page. U'd better repost ur message somewhere else...

By this logic, this means hé is now a true Nxt supporter!  Huh

[via google spreadsheets]

And what does it tell us?

Think that's the buy/sell graph. So the price that people are willing to sell and price that people are willing to buy is around the .00007002-.0000752 range.

I don't know why yuri posted it though  Smiley

Someone posted this earlier in the thread: http://www.snell-pym.org.uk/archives/2013/04/08/understanding-bitcoin-market-depth/

It's about bitcoin, but the same knowledge can be applied to this graph. I found it quite an interesting read.

edit: Orrechorre, they should arrive if you put in the correct account number. Maybe it takes a while.

Is there a ddos happening now?
What do you mean by "work on the chain"?

This message is on the chain explorer:

"We are moving to a bigger server right now.
Database will be down for 24h. "

Have you tried closing and restarting the java app itself?
That is what usually helps for me.
What also is recommended in these cases is deleting blocks.nxt and transactions.nxt and restarting everything to download the entire chain from scratch. Hope that helps Smiley

Can someone help me? I made a transfer on the 27th worth 17,000 NXT from DGEX.com into my NXT account (13480670143410523480). Up until today it was saying that the withdrawal was pending on DGEX, but now it is saying it has been completed. I haven't seen it in my NXT account yet. The transaction wasn't on the blockchain explorer yesterday, and I can't check it right now because the explorer is down. This is my transaction:

2013-12-27 05:19:38       Withdrawal fee   0.00000000
2013-12-27 05:19:38       NXT Withdrawal COMPLETED   -17000.00000000

Should I be worried?

In my experience, and from what I've heard from others, all transfers from DGEX arrived. Pity we can't check the blockchain at the moment, but based on what I know about DGEX, I'd say you'll get the 17000, but will need some patience. Could also be that there is a delay due to work on the chain atm. Smiley

I must admit, I use this thread all the time and also go onto the forums a bit.

For me, this thread is easier because it's closer to the fire, because CfB posts regularly and a lot.

Also, this seems the place where most people more directly involved seem to post.

Well I post on both forums, because I think a forum with different sections and threads is better than ONE gigantic thread. But I hope that something official will come from a dev. Even if it's just something like a verification for a existing forum.

I post over there, too, and I do not mean criticism on the forum or administration.
Hell, I've only been around for a week!  Cheesy
