1621  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-04-04] Hacked Bitcoin Exchange Bithumb Tells Traders to Halt Deposits on: April 05, 2019, 07:42:31 PM
Don’t do HODL on exchanges. Hard headed noob investors.
People haven't learned anything from past hacks. All they care about is how they can avoid taking care of their own coins and have them ready to dump in a matter of seconds in case there is a major price movement.

I have even read how people don't want to spend money on a hardware wallet, while they completely ignore the fact that a $100 investment in a hardware wallet prevents losses of tens of thousands of dollars, or even way higher.

Bithumb is an exchange I put in the same category as Yobit. In both cases shitcoins are the central focus, and not providing a useful service to people who want a professional platform to buy and sell coins at.
1622  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best place to sell a little bitcoin on: April 05, 2019, 06:04:11 PM
I will coose Binance, no needed YOur Id but if you want increase your withdraw you must verification your identity.
OP is very likely referring to actual fiat withdrawals, which the main Binance exchange doesn't offer. Binance Jersey however does offer actual fiat withdrawals in form of EUR or GBP, but that obviously requires you to verify yourself.

As for OP not feeling comfortable with Coinbase knowing all your personal information, which is perfectly understandable, but they are one of the most regulated entities within the world of crypto.

If I had to choose an exchange to verify myself at, then it would definitely be Coinbase. It hasn't ever been hacked and they take security serious, which can't be said about most of the other exchanges being too nonchalant.
1623  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela hit by new nationwide powercut for more than three days on: April 05, 2019, 01:01:35 AM
Is there a place with a reliable price index for Venezuela? Would interesting to see statistics and and more real time info.
There isn't one that I know of, but given how thin the market there is, there is no such a thing as reliable Venezuelan Bitcoin price index. People there either buy very close to western spot prices, or significantly overpay.

It's literally what the highest bidder wants to pay for a coin. In shaky countries there is little supply yet quite a high demand, so from there sellers basically can ask whatever they want for their coins.

I am following https://coin.dance/volume/localbitcoins/VES

For once it's not peanuts volumes that we have seen in countries such as Iran and some African countries that news outlets unreservedly referred to as crypto hotspots. Venezuela is marching forward. Smiley
1624  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will never recover? on: April 04, 2019, 10:50:13 PM
Bitcoin already recovered. It went down from $20k to $3000. From overhyped and totally not worth such valuation, to something people consider cheap, while in reality it's just a fairer valuation for Bitcoin.

People here tend to do the opposite of what should be done. There was no shortage of buyers above the $10k mark while when the price touched $3100 people suddenly didn't want to touch Bitcoin even with a stick.
1625  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wow, the bears are back, if we're not careful they'll eat us too :) on: April 04, 2019, 10:21:03 PM
It's so funny seeing how people shift from bull to bear mode because of how traders cash out coins they bought well under the $4000 mark. Nothing in the world pumps like that without correcting somewhat.

Good thing is that the resistance levels that kept us below $4200 for such a long period of time, will become support levels would we test them in the coming days or weeks. This is how markets always have been, so nothing new here.

I am still in accumulation mode so it's perfectly fine for me looking at how the price is going down. Lower price means more coins for my fiat. It's impossible to not like such opportunities. Grin
1626  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-04-02]Bitcoin Trades Over $5,000, is the Next Bull Run Knocking? on: April 04, 2019, 09:52:32 PM
CME yesterday generated 12,000 contracts worth 50,000BTC and it looks like they'll easily go over that today. People saying that CME doesn't play a role have to open their eyes and start to acknowledge that this fake Bitcoin platform has a firm say in this market.
Initially it didn't seem like they were a factor to pay attention to due to their low volumes, but they now definitely are. 113k BTC has been traded today which I believe is a new record for the books.

I totally get it why CBOE threw the towel in the ring. CBOE only did ~5600 BTC in volume today, which is an utter failure for one of the largest legacy exchanges to ever exist.

Another thing is that the low Bitcoin futures volumes take down their overall statistics, so it has to be ditched. Makes me think about why CME isn't trying to get an ETF product approved. Maybe they understand that it's pointless to begin with.
1627  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-04-01] Making ATM Bitcoin Payments via Lightning Network Is Becoming a Rea on: April 04, 2019, 09:12:48 PM
I think the lightning protocol has already been extended to allow limitless channels, the feature's called 'wumbo' (not sure why)
Is this feature available in the main implementation(s) already? I have used different custodial wallets for convenience purposes, and they still only offer 0.16xBTC as max channel capacity.

Does this also mean that the max transaction amount limit is lifted? If so, that would be the next catalyst for LN to gain even more adoption. I am not at all a fan of any sort of limit despite the 'beta' status LN still has.

People individually already dedicate more liquidity than lightning labs recommends, which is a clear sign that there shouldn't be a limiting factor. The risk is with the people anyway....
1628  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-04-01] Making ATM Bitcoin Payments via Lightning Network Is Becoming a Rea on: April 03, 2019, 11:00:52 PM
We need a lightning network but not necessarily all applications, especially Bitcoin ATMs.
The more the better. I can see a time where the funds dedicated to LN will remain in LN because there is no longer a need to cash out to the main network. For this we only need a couple of exchanges to kick things off.

I also doubt that we'll be stuck with our current 0.16xBTC max channel capacity. When the network is considered safe/stable enough for mass use, there shouldn't be a limit at all, and I strongly believe there won't be.
1629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lightning’s Bitcoin mainnet: the phenomenal growth on: April 03, 2019, 10:21:52 PM
60% of LN balance belongs to one entity
I'm not exactly sure on the percentages, but assuming this is true for argument sake, it's quite bullish. It is recommended that people only dedicate small amounts to LN, and this LNBIG entity ignoring that shows how much trust there is in LN.

Overall, people seem to dislike something that works extremely well if you're connected to the right nodes. I haven't had one single transaction fail in the last few weeks.

The most expensive fee I had to deal with was 10 sats, where the rest is either free or 1 sat. There is no point in being so salty. If people get it working right, they find it useful, then it's all fine.
1630  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance a “high” regulatory risk on: April 02, 2019, 09:00:35 AM
As fast as Binance climbed up to where it is today, that fast can it also lose its dominance. Bittrex and Poloniex are perfect examples of how fast things can change here in crypto, where Poloniex is still bleeding.

Bittrex is slowly gaining back some of its volumes, and their actual BTC/USD fiat pair is growing too, which is quite bullish. We need more actual dollars flowing into this ecosystem to not depend too much on USDT.
1631  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What trading platforms do you prefer? on: April 02, 2019, 08:01:55 AM
I no longer use an exchange unless it's for trading purposes, but buying and selling is done through a local exchanging service where you receive the money you cash out within 24 hours on working days.

Spot exchanges are getting so cocky with all their stupid questions that I am even considering ditching them entirely, but I got a little bit of interest in trading lately so I'll wait it out for a longer while.

If you are referring "simple" for the user interface then I find Yobit the most simple to use platform, you don't have anything to do there except to wait for a pump. When you see a pump get in. However, Yobit is not trusted.
Yobit might be simple to use, whatever that means, but it's one of the worst exchanges in the crypto world. If we look past their shady nature, it's also quite slow and very unreliable.
1632  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-03-31] Bitcoin [BTC] ETF: SEC stalls proposal yet again; decision pushed.. on: March 31, 2019, 08:52:33 PM
It's time for the SEC to cut through this dog shit. It's already known to them that the ETF proposals in their current form don't stand a chance to be approved, especially not while the proposals are also coin backed.

I think the only reason they keep delaying their decisions instead of rejecting them directly, is to avoid making themselves look anti Bitcoin in the public with how easily triggered people in the crypto world are.

Additionally, ETF will "hurt" Bitcoin on long term since it will make people think bitcoin as investment rather than cryptocurrency.
Crypto exchanges have already made sure of that. Their next scam that drives people nuts are IEOs, and we're at the very beginning of another massive wave of hype and fomo.
1633  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-03-29] Canadian Municipality Set to Accept Bitcoin for Property Tax Paymen on: March 31, 2019, 08:09:19 PM
I don't know if it's to answer the demand, but I don't think people are interested in using their coins to pay taxes, especially if it's a Bitcoin bought at $20,000. It's better to keep your coins and wait for the market to pick up.
It might sound weird, but registering a tax loss will allow you to offset the difference against future profits, which isn't all that bad to be honest. I'm sure that there are enough people that have utilized the bear market to gain that advantage.

But yeah, spending Bitcoin is such a no go for most people at current levels. I rather keep using fiat for now, till the price has gone up to levels I feel comfortable spending instead of converting to fiat due to the tax advantage it offers me.
1634  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 4-year cycle is it real? Probable end year rally for Bitcoin on: March 31, 2019, 07:00:28 PM
We are seeing so much interests from institutions ,adopting the block chain technology,
Institutions adopting the blockchain as technology isn't really that bullish for crypto in general because it always concerns private blockchains. This whole blockchain thing is stupid and not even worth the hype it enjoys.

Institutions say yes to blockchain, but are very skeptical about our decentralized crypto currencies, while the innovation lies in the decentralized crypto currencies and not the blockchain itself.

also retail is growing significantly( bitcoin transaction counts are near those of the bull market)
That also means saying welcome back to higher fees. More needs to happen in order to prevent the network from clogging up. I hope Schnorr will help free up some block space, but when will it be released? This year? Next year? Huh
1635  Economy / Speculation / Re: On whales and their impact on: March 31, 2019, 06:13:15 PM
For example, when the Mt. Gox custodian was selling his huge stash of coins, he was just actively selling with his only concern not to crash the price too fast
I'm not so sure of that. The way everything around the sales of these coins has gone stinks. It wouldn't even surprise me if coins have been dumped recklessly with large short positions to extract even more money out of the market.

Don't forget that they took hundreds of millions in fiat out of the market, and that especially in the crypto world with the poor liquidity of exchanges, is quite an achievement on its own. They intentionally crashed the market, and that can't be denied.
1636  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kcs now accept credit cards on: March 31, 2019, 05:59:33 PM
To be honest I do not really like to use paypal, and I think paypal is not that good to be considered as one of payment method in exchange.
Not sure if you're aware of PayPal's terms, but they haven't exactly been very friendly towards anything related to crypto currencies, which also includes people selling mining hardware.

Coinbase lets people withdraw fiat through PayPal, but thus far I haven't seen anyone here who tried it out to see how it goes. I think people are afraid of the potential consequences due to PayPal's strict terms.

I'm sure that when Coinbase receives so many complaints about frozen accounts, that they will ditch the PayPal withdrawal option, and that's actually a good thing. PayPal and crypto has always been a bad combination.
1637  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: mTurk Equivalent but pays satoshi for task! on: March 31, 2019, 05:29:34 PM
Thats the thing with online work, you are competing with people that only make a few dollars per day in their country.  $2/ hour is nothing in the United States but in certain countries that can be a decent amount.
It was a shocker for me finding out how far people are willing to go for a couple of dollars, or even a few pennies when it comes to people farming faucets, solving captchas, watching ads, and so forth.

It really seems that a lot of Indians have found their way to Bitcointalk in the last couple of years, and this fierce competition between users leads to very low rewards for basic tasks.

Good thing however is that these Indians due to a lack of understanding and skills can't compete with the rest when it comes to high level designing and coding tasks, and this is where businesses are still willing to pay big.
1638  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-03-24]Bank of Italy Calls Bitcoin Useless, Risky and Inefficient on: March 30, 2019, 11:48:05 PM
They're also completely ignoring the utility that bitcoin brings, in terms of being a global means of exchange, and store of value. I would certainly take what they say with a huge grain of salt overall.
They either don't see it because of their ignorance, or they know Bitcoin has quite a powerful utility, but don't want to admit it, not sure what is worse. It's their loss at the end of the day.

Gold bugs fit in the same category where they continuously repeat that Bitcoin isn't a store of value because it has gone down a lot, which is quite funny considering that gold is still far away from its all time high.

It all comes down to when you entered the market, and based on that Bitcoin is either a very good or very bad store of value, and the same applies to gold. For me it has been a fantastic store of value.
1639  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-03-30] Bithumb, leading Korean exchange, hacked again?! on: March 30, 2019, 11:07:59 PM
Bithumb hasn't done much to stimulate itself as professional exchange. All they have been doing is hand out bonuses so that they attract new users and incentivize them to wash trade the worst possible shit coins.

People may not like Coinbase, and that for a good reason, but they haven't ever been hacked. This shows that with a good management, capable staff, and eye for security, you can run an exchange without getting hacked or robbed from within.

I remember an interview with CEO Brian Armstrong where he said that he doesn't have access to any of Coinbase's cold wallets. In order to gain access to these funds, different members within Coinbase have to sign.
1640  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bestmixer or chipmixer? on: March 29, 2019, 11:31:11 PM
The entire discussion in this thread will be like,

ChipMixer campaign participants : - ChipMixer
BestMixer campaign participants : - BestMixer
People who don't ever mix coins : - ChipMixer [I agree with them because ChipMixer has been around for a good time and they are already more than famous on bitcointalk as compared to bestmixer]
My thought exactly.

The only thing I can say is that as long as the mixer is a legitimate player within the crypto space, give them a try with small amounts first and see which one offers you the best possible service.

The good thing about more competition is that mixers have started to innovate by adding new features that make each individual mixer stand out from the rest and appeal to a certain group of users.
