1641  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [4700 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: February 10, 2014, 09:44:10 AM
On that note, how long do you believe BTCGuild is guaranteed to be around for ? Another 6yrs at least ?

Hard to say.  It would have to become unprofitable to keep going unless there was another reason for closure (such as legal reasons).  That's barring something unseen, like a legitimate offer to purchase the pool (no offer has ever been made that came remotely close), in which case I wouldn't have control over how long it stays around.
So basially 2016 when it halves to 12.5 lol.
Just because when the blocks half does not mean it will be unprofitable, as what if at that time BTC is worth 2 times ( or more) than it is now. I think it will more depend on what outside forces move into mining and the pools may not be able to compete, and then we may see a mergers of pools or closing of small weaker ones.
1642  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Confused about which mining pool to join and stick with. on: February 09, 2014, 02:07:22 PM
I will throw my 2 cents in on this. I have mined on Slush since June 2013 on and off. I have jumped to other pools since trying them out but have always ended back up at Slush until the last month. Here is what I think about the pools I tried:

I did  not do good on Eclipse after a week compared to my average payouts on Slush

I mined on Bitminter which I liked their easy setup but did better on Slush

I mined on Eligius and once again I did not make as much after a few weeks as I had off Slush and also found the payout to be confusing. Only got a payout of 90+% which was no where close to my average payouts on Slush. Since then I have received a couple of small payouts even tho I have not mined on it in sometime that has now brought my payout to 98% of my earned amount. I have not been back but have thought of trying again as with the higher hash rate things might be better?

Now I have 2 BFL singles and am running one on Slush and one on BTC Guild so as to compare both pools. Some days BTC has beaten Slush and somedays Slush beats BTC Guild. Overall in the last 2 weeks Slush is ahead but by a small amount. Both pools have had their share of bad luck and good. What I like about Slush is it's a very simple to understand as long as you keep mining thru the whole block. BTC Guild has the advantage being bigger and a somewhat more stabilized payout. But I would say these are my 2 favorite pools.

Also I want to give credit to Eleuthria as who I think is the best pool operator. Always around to answer questions even on other pools
1643  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [450 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: January 31, 2014, 02:08:58 AM
Just started to get into bitcoin mining.  I ran for about 5 hours using an old ati 5750 and was seeing nothing in one pool till I came to Slush.  I saw a little bit and decided to get an antminer after seeing someone post about it on here.  It is working great and I have been thinking about ordering 4 more off of amazon along with a USB fan for the hub I have.  Thing that bothers me is I have read on other sites that this is now pointless in doing, and that you will never see a profit from bitcoin mining even if you were to spend thousands of dollars on equipment.  So has this just become a hobby for people or is it something that a profit can be made from?  I didn't plan on ever making enough to retire from work, but I thought I would be able to at some point make a little.  I had hoped that eventually I would be able to get 1.5 coins with out spending much on equipment so I could get me a nice new graphics card.  After that maybe find a site that I could buy more equipment with bitcoins let it run and cash in.

Ever since the block erupters came out people said they were a wait, that people would never make their money back. Then the exchange rate went up 10 times the initial price. Nobody knows what the future holds, they only have guesses. I see the USB Ants as the current Erupters. On paper you'll probably lose, but paper doesn't know what the future holds. Just remember, As the difficulty goes up each piece of hardware you have will earn a bit less. But the price per Gh/s of new equipment should drop as the difficulty goes up.

Only you can decide what is worth it.

One fun thing to note is the argument people will always make:  You'd have been better off buying BTC than buying a miner.  This is mostly true, if the person doing the investing is rational, patient, and holds true to their investment decision.

I have first hand evidence of friends who I recommended not purchase miners at a certain point for that same reason.  They did so anyways.  And they made more off the miners than they would have buying BTC.  Not because of any failure in my math, but a failure in assumptions.  The "buy BTC instead" argument doesn't work if somebody would have cashed out their coins after a reasonable rise.  Such as cashing out the coins they purchased after a 30% gain.  My friends absolutely would have done that, and been happy with a $300 profit after a month.  Instead, they had to sell their coins slowly as they mined them.  They ended up more than doubling their investment because even though they sold coins continuously, they ended up selling at significantly more than a 30% gain over the price when they had purchased their miners.

So a wise, patient, and true believer, investing in BTC would be better off putting their money directly into coins, and following a strict selloff plan.  But those types of investors are rare (though many believe they are that type).  Human emotion is an extremely large factor in trading, especially on highly volatile markets like Bitcoin.
so true! I bought 30 BTC at $130 each to buy 15 BE from Canary at 1.99 BTC each.... Then when the price of BTC hit over a $1000 and all I had was 3 BTC because I spent my  earned coins on more BE's.... I thought if I only had held onto them 30  coins instead of buying the miners... But then I would have sold the coins at ? I really don't think I wold have held out till $1000 or more before selling. It's easy to look back and think what if... But it's hard when you don't know what tomorrow brings.

1644  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: PROBLEM WITH BLOCK ERUPTER BLADES MINING ON SLUSH'S POOL (STRATUM MINING PROXY) on: January 29, 2014, 05:06:06 PM
Hey guys I'm mining using the Block Erupter Blade using Slush's Pool via mining proxy and my miners stop mining suddenly and it keeps going on and off Sad Sad

Like it mines really well for 5 mins and then it stops (see image below)

http://i59.tinypic.com/2wm0v1d.png

I even tried switching to BTC Guild, but I have the same problem.

Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How  many miners are you running and on what kind of powered hub? How many per hub and what is amp rating of the wall power adaptor?

1645  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [450 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: January 28, 2014, 11:52:06 AM
Ok, so I just ordered a few block erupters, and plan on adding more. But I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for the best mining software/client to pair with these? I'm currently using GUIMiner, with 2 gpus, will GUIMiner work with the erupters?
You'll probably do better with bfgminer https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=168174.0 or cgminerhttps://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.0. Using bfgminer 3.10 now with BE's.

Cheers
I had 70 erupters running and used bfgminer and it worked great. If your interested click on the blog link on my signature and you will see my old setup. I have since sold all the BE on EBay and just run 2 BFL 60 GH singles.

The web server database is still trying to catch up from the couple of days it wasn't getting data from the core servers.  I expect it to catch up by sometime tonight.

So, most stats are out of date including those for new users.  They won't show up in the stats database until the stats database has gotten to that point in time.

thanks I will check again tonight

I tried to point one of my miners back to this pool an hour ago but without some stats showing up to confirm it's working right I put it back to my other pool and will wait till it's fixed and try again tonight.
1648  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: My BFL SC Single 60 went out in a puff of smoke - what next? on: January 17, 2014, 09:43:23 AM
I had troubles with my single, wrote BFL for a RMA and within 2 days received an email asking for my original invoice # and email. I wrote back telling them I bought the unit second hand and did not have that information. Within another day received a RMA. I sent the unit in and received a single back in about 1 week. It appears they just removed my cover and placed it over a brand new unit. Really overall great service.

I also have another single that acts the same way of slowing down after about 12 hours. I just stop and restart the easy miner and it goes back up to 58/59GH. I think it's either software or memory problems with my desktop.
1649  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [450 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: January 06, 2014, 11:51:18 PM
If anyone here has been on Slush's pool for more than a day or two, then they would know that they always get fixed in a few hours or a day or two.  Quit crying...or well wait, don't cause I need my laughs...lol!

Unfortunately, if anyone here has been on Slush's pool long enough, then a) they know things not always get fixed and b) most importantly are usually repeats.
IMHO that's the most annoying part, it's a frequently re-occuring issue almost every week. And someone does get those BTCs, so that's a 100% valid concern of people...

I don't care anymore since I'm about to finish my mining experiments but operators of more GHs/sec than me won't take it as lightly. Newcomers also are much more sensitive to such unexpected issues.
AFAIK, Slush's pool would be more successful if they got behind these issues and fixed them (maybe it's already in the works but we just don't know - Communication 101)
well I have to agree with the communication.. It's kind of sad when this thread is monitored better ( and maybe only) by the owner of our competing pool (BTCguild)

Block #21337 seems off on the payout for me. about 30 to 40% down, wondering if anybody else see's this. Also can someone tell me how do we go about filling out a support question, so i don't have to go back thru a bunch of pages looking for it.

Well it looks like its back up and running. My confirmed amount went up, but am still missing all those blocks that never got added on. ( or taken away )

Edit: I do notice that my overall earnings has dropped during this .. Hope that is  being worked on

Yeah, looks like my payout threshold was met and deducted, but not actually paid. Any update on this anyone?

I actually raised my payout so it would wait until this is all recalculated and straighten out. I figured the last thing needed was a bunch of payouts trying to take place.

My amounts are going up so it does indeed look like its being taken care of at this time..

The good news is we are having some great luck! The bad news is none of us is getting paid for it!  Grin

All kidding aside, even though I have never seen this problem here in the past, Slush has for the most part always come thru and got things straighten out.

I have noticed that my unconfirmed reward has dropped from yesterday to today
lost about 33% of my unconfirmed reward

confirmed nothing since sunday evening/night

It's my confirmed reward  has dropped!    0,01 BTC       why?? they have no orphan block last day why one desappear?

It looks as though as the newer blocks are being added on to unconfirmed (even though many of them are mow  'confirmed') then the oldest blocks that have not been paid out are being deducted from this 'unconfirmed' total! This has been happening since block 21304 - it looks like it could take a while to properly work out rewards due to everyone. I am hoping that the due rewards will be paid automatically rather than everyone having to put a claim in for unpaid blocks 21304+ which may go unnoticed by many.

it would be nice to at least know that this is being looked into and do they really want everyone to put in a claim? I see the new found blocks  look to be on hold from confirming so I would only think this is being worked on?

the new found blocks are not on hold, they will update when the current working block is found.
the currant block we are working on is going on 1hour 45mins and the last 2blocks show still processing where it usually only takes 10 mins or so to start the confirming and having the break down of he block showing. So I would think that these 2blocks ( and any new ones) are somehow being held up until they get this problem fixed?

The usual reason for low payouts is down to the internet deciding to run slow.

My normal connection speed is approx 8meg

I can be watching an online film and the video is reporting 4.1meg. My miners are also working normally.

The video feed will suddenly freeze and report speeds of 0.1meg(slower than old dial up).
If the freeze lasts more than a few mins and a block is found during the freeze time, then the payout for that block is low. My miners are still running apparently normally.

If I were to monitor the miner carefully at this time (very difficult with 80+ devices) I would probably see an increase in Reject and Stale results, but within a few mins this would be lost again in the background.

Slush is paying more for the freshest calculations and much less for the older results.
So if the hashes are not getting to the pool before the block is found, then they will not count towards the payout. (The pool thinks you are skipping).
Late arrivals are not counted.

I agree but I also think there is a chance "late arrivals" may very well count towards the next block. I will see a low payout and the next block sometimes will make up for it as I thought the late shares get credited towards it?

Quote from Slush's Pool:-

How does bitcoin pool work?

Our server gives users blocks of very low difficulty to solve. Each solution found is registered as one 'share'. Occasionally, a solution will happen to also meet the full-strength difficulty requirements of the Bitcoin network, resulting in a successful 25 BTC minting.

This 25 BTC is divided among all of the users that contributed to that round, weighted by the number of shares that they earned. Therefore, the reward earned by a given user is given by the following formula:

(25 BTC + block fees - 2% fee) * (shares found by user's workers) / (total shares in current round)
Shares do not carry over from one round to the next. When the pool mine a block, only users who worked on that block are rewarded, and only for work they did on that block. This is an unavoidable consequence of the way that Bitcoin mining in general works.

Late arrivals go in the bin
Thanks for posting... I was just going off what I see on my rewards. More times than not it just seems when I see a really low payout I will see a higher than normal one on the next block. So it must just be over observation on my part.
