I must admit, I use this thread all the time and also go onto the forums a bit.

For me, this thread is easier because it's closer to the fire, because CfB posts regularly and a lot.

Also, this seems the place where most people more directly involved seem to post.

What do we know about drexme:

promised to pay 250 Nxt for translations, never paid:
https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,188.0.html

Providing escort with linking on the account with 100 Nxt:
https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,1437.msg12148.html#msg12148

Created a giveaway, collected 35k Nxt, deleted Giveaway topic. This is Drexme's giveaway account:
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=7161646874450697154
9 days ago it was cashed out to the Dgex...

However drexme is still logging to Bitcointalk and nextcoin.org...he is online right now actually

i don't know others, also i don't know anything about these 35k Nxt, but i have to say that drexme has paid me 250 Nxts two times for translations.

Payments are visible in your account. Thanks for mentioning this Smiley
I am reserving any judgement on Drexme for the time being.
It can be a blow to the NXT reputation, but also to his, if it turns out to be a miscommunication.

(also: drama!)

Would everyone like a new Nxt exchange? I can get us started on something more appealing than dgex with the communities support.

cheaper withdrawals and faster would be nice. dgex is good, I dont mind paying 1.4% to withdraw, but it should be done in 1-2 hours rather than 12

i looked on the block chain and I have nxt in my account as of 2 days ago. However I have a balance of 0 on my client - dont know what to do, so I am waiting hoping that it appears on my account.
Howevere I dont feel very safe with NXT coins being somewhere but dont see them on my account.
its weird.
Many coins have 1 minute confirmation today so I see them in my wallet immediaty and here I wait for several days and nothing happens. This is quite strange feature

First off, don't worry. As long as they are in the blockchain, you have the coins.
NXT is not stored locally in a wallet, but online.
I've found that in most cases shutting down Java, closing the client and restarting both works for me.

But my basic message is: as long as they show up in the blockchain, you have the coins. Smiley

Hope that helps a bit.

Edit: I hope someone more tech savvy can help you out in some more detail.

Please do not make premature conclusions. After Opticalc's notice I found out that Drexme transferred and sold the coins, but AFAIK he hasn't been questioned about it. Maybe there's a valid reason.

Thank you for your quick reaction.

THIEF ALERT:

We have been maintaining a Nextcoin forums donation giveaway fund that held around 35K of NXT in it, I noticed this morning that it had nearly been drained.  GCInc/Graviton and I did some inverstigation and apparently board member Drexme transferred it all to his DGEX account, sold it for BTC, and skated off with the funds.
 Angry

Can we have confirmation from Graviton on this?
It's a pretty serious charge and I would like to have separate confirmations.

Thanks Smiley

My number is around 1000x, so that would mean a price of about .000021-.00004.

Stop waiting for the same price as I am! Wink

1648  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BOUNTY] Announcements for Nxt (the first pure POS coin) on: December 29, 2013, 05:50:06 PM
Nearly finished transferring the Dutch Wiki articles to the new wiki. Props to Stark-Fujikawa for all the actual translations.

I've also started translating the new parts on the wiki. Hope to have most of it finished by end of the day.

Thanks for integrating them into the new wiki. I'll be resuming translating duties tomorrow and will check out your material to see if there need to be any edits. Likewise if you see some mistakes in my translations, feel free to correct them.

Once I get them safely to the new wiki, I'll start checking them. I think we need to come up with some sort of list for translating IT-related ("nodes", "weight") words and Nxt-related terms ("forge"). This to avoid mixing terminology which makes for sloppy reading. But that's not first priority.

No, that's a great point actually and since I'm not too IT savvy I often don't know whether a term like node is commonly used in Dutch or we should a term like netwerkknooppunt. I think it's important to determine the intended audience when making these considerations. Do we primarily expect IT professionals to read it or people with less technical background. I wonder if there is a Dutch IT terminology thesaurus or something out there. Could be a great way to ensure quality control. It may not be the first priority, but it's definitely something that needs to be ironed out eventually so do let me know your thoughts.

My preference would be to use the English words for well known things or for terms that appear in the as yet untranslated interface. For instance, I just completed the CreateAlias page, and used the English terms as they appear in the interface. I did the same for hallmark creation, but there I only used "weight" when referring to the interface, while using "gewicht" and "wegen" when referring to the process. I decided to do it that way for ease of reading without sacrificing precision (I hope).
I agree we should look for a thesaurus and use it.

As to target audience, I think it will be work in progress. We will be able to get away with a lot of technobabble in this stage, but over time it will need to be more and more aimed at non-tech end users. This is probably something that should be done towards the end of the Beta stage. (whenever that is! Google was in Beta for YEARS! Wink)

I am also glad to read that the stakeholders are also still unsure on how to deal with redistribution and are still looking for ways on how to solve this problem. It will be an issue that needs to be solved I think. I read on many different websites getting involved in NXT is not smart as it is a pre-mined currency. I do understand why NXT is NOT pre-mined, but a lot of others will not understand this point. And that will be the reason for people to ignore NXT. To me, this is the biggest hurdle that is facing PoS currencies such as Ripple and NXT.

I think one of the bigger challenges is to get people out of the "mining" mindset.
Let's face it, most people at the moment got into coins and mining because of the beginning of December boom.

They have little or no interest in new forms of currency. The only currency they are interested is the one on their accounts and also the "game" of free money.
This may seem overly cynical, but reading the forums, you know the kind of person I mean. DOGE was succesful for a reason.  Grin

The good thing would be to engage these people (not the ones already interested) and show them what currencies are and do and could do!

My own view on distribution is that there should be a more extensive bounty scheme to get a wider range of capable people involved. I freely admit this has a selfserving side, too, as I have no coding abilities whatsoever, but wouldn't mind earning Nxt by doing other jobs. That's why I am also translating the wiki. It's something I can do to help, and it falls within my abilities.  Smiley

I am absolutely amazed by the way how critical questions and remarks are just brushed of as 'you are just jealous because you are too late' kind of statements.
It is as if no actual discussion is allowed, only when you utter words like to the moon etc?

I disagree with your assesment.
Criticism is good. There is nothing wrong with that.

Misrepresenting facts is not good. And saying that an IPO where investors get profit is "not fair" isn't really a useful statement.

What ís useful is constructive ideas about how to get those coins moving. As stated before: the founders are in a lock, too.
Market volume isn't big enough for them to bring all their coins to the market at the moment. The market would collapse and that isn't good for anyone.

Some people have suggested ways to do this. Most suggested "give it away".
Fair enough, that's a valid suggestion.

Some proposed a charity fund. Also constructive.

My point is that it's a good idea to distinguish between people shouting "not fair!" and then not adding any constructive idea (which leads to the impression they just want a piece of the pie too and and are in NO way interested in the NXT as a new currency, AT ALL) and people who raise valid concers that have something to do with the viability of NXT.

I agree shouting 'unfair' is not constructive. That is why I suggested to put 80% of the coins in a sort of trust fund and dole them out when transactions are executed. Apparently this has something to do with going to Church.

Having an ad supported faucet apparently is also not supported by most here.

I agree that giving them away is not constructive and is in no way supportive of the currency. There has to be some sort of work that has to be performed to get coins. So far not very many of these programs exist however. Maybe I just didn't look in the right places.

First off, because I basically am just a small investor with no indepth knowledge of the functionality of the system, I cannot comment on the trust fund etc.

An ad supported faucet (at least in the beginning stages of Nxt) seems like a good idea to get some circulation.

As far as I can see that is basically a condition that any plan at this point needs to meet: does it get the coin circulating in a way that does not break the market? If so, it's worth thinking about. if not, it's just not viable.

The spice must flow!

In the beginning there was BCNext...

Is it from The Book of Genesis?

Hahaha, man, u made my day!

its from the block of Genesis

Let's hope we will never get to the block of Exodus!
1655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 29, 2013, 04:23:43 AM
damelon,

I am not trying to overreact, I am trying to patch a hole in the NXT story that is told on the wiki and everywhere. Nowhere does it mention that BCnext basically gifted millions of dollars to the founders. While it might not bother you, all it takes is for it to bother one writer at a major outlet and all of a sudden a million people are convinced NXT founders are greedy.

WHY do we need to take that chance when all we have to do is add the BCnext donation to the current story. It is true isn't it?

With a starting baseline in the millions, it is similar to a VC backed company that hits the bigtime with an IPO. Make the founders like the employees of an IPO with multimillion dollar backing. That is a much more believable story than 21 BTC turning into 100 million market cap. That is just such a large percentage that the yuris of the world will latch onto it and what good does that do us?

Please just update the wiki and we can change the conversation to all the other positive things as I doubt the "greedy founders" rhetoric will get much traction, especially if the approve the non-founder dividend.

I've been involved with Ripple and before they got their WCG giveaway, they had a lot of the same issues. Now they are helping to cure cancer and AIDS and the complaints about their proof of stake origins are much less. NXT needs to change the current way it explains the genesis event

Think of it as a bug that just needs to be fixed. Please fix this bug, wiki peoples.

James

Can I recap this as that next to the technological aspect, we need "story"?
If so, I agree.

Also, I'd like to add that I do not think (how would I know?) you are overreacting. I don't know you, and communication via text is always tricky. I just like to make my arguments sharp to see if I am "getting" what someone is saying. So thanks for clearing it up Smiley

I would also mention that NXT rewards participation. I think you can reach many people/groups with the positive message that contributing is being rewarded.
1657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 29, 2013, 04:06:14 AM
Is anybody familiar with the marketing concept of positioning?

I am. I'm in marketing, customer relations and sales (and theatre, which is basically the same  Grin), too.

However, i don't completely agree with your assessment that the "greedy founders" myth is all that damaging.
I think we have a bit of an unbalanced perspective at the moment, because the complainers are always loudest, and because satisfied customers are mostly quiet.

It needs to be addressed of course, but reaction too over the top on the myth is contraproductive, too (where there is smoke etc.).

Needs a delicate touch and I think at the moment the collaborative and "green" aspects of the project are some of the best selling points.

Also the "collaborative effort by experienced professionals who donate free time" angle is good.

Not to mention that all of the above are actually true Smiley

btw you can see people on the next page reacting to the proposal, but I guess they decided it wasn't fit for their forum, or perhaps they'll say I deleted it. I did not.

those big red letters were the current font I had selected, sorry if it screamed agenda. peace.
and like my last post on nextcoin.org (before it was deleted)

see you in 6 months... Wink

Actually,

I did see that post yesterday and thought it was a sensible alternative. Smiley
I didn't know it was deleted. I also see no reason why it should be deleted.  Huh

In that case: good that there are screenshots.

As to drawing conclusions: I don't buy into the "don't draw conclusions from forum posts". In my experience, it's not a very strong argument. Nobody nééds to overreact, especially not on forums, where you have time to think before you post. On the other hand, people do react more primal on the net.

I have no beef with anyone and as far as i am concerned any constuctive comment is welcome. So I hope there will be some more thoughts about all this. Voting system is coming, too, so who knows what that will bring Smiley

It takes Soooo long to receive NXT from dgex, and even though it's a big ol 125, it's something! Im throwing all my spare change into this, because it shows a lot of promise. I think it's a few bucks well spent. Besides, I've been told (jokingly)I better make a few thousand dollars by the end of the month(three days? really?). Man, I hate it when folks don't get what it is we are doing. Scam scam scam, it's all my family ever tells me with altcoins, and now this. bah! I'll show em.
Don't invest more than you can afford to lose.

I'd like to second this. Be careful with your money and only invest what you can safely miss. Read up on the coin and make a plan.
