What do you guys think of this?
http://nxtra.org/nodes/

Is the preset of 25 related to efficiency by any chance?

No, not really. Not sure what a good default is for this, just a random number.

What do you guys think of this?

http://nxtra.org/nodes/

I noticed everyone seems to copy the same "easyCopyString" for the list of server nodes (wellKnownPeers) in web.xml - however, wouldn't it be better if that list of server nodes was different for everyone?

That's what my tool does, it gives back a random sampling of the well known server nodes. That way there'll be no overloading and everything will be less centralized. Now of course, I'd like to know CFB's opinion on this (and anyone else's).

Very good idea! In 0.5.0 we'll get ability to set if u want ur IP to be shared. Network structure will become opaque and attackers won't be able to get complete list of peers.

intelligent investors
Only 1 thing bothers me: everyone'd remember investor — guy looking for intrest. Now intrest (forging like business) near 0. Later? Unpredictable, but possibly "+" enough. Divide investors from speculators, for them profit = sell — buy. I'm kinda a little potential speculator too in this project (long-term speculator), it's twto different businesses.

We'd also remember too that many people don't like speculators at all, it's important for future progress. Honesty unlocks doors.

That's my opinion.

This is not such important. Just instant messages and distributed filestorage. We already have Skype and Mega.

Shouldn't we get a stable client 1st.  How many people are able to actually run it non stop.

That is why I suggested to put 80% of the coins
To whom can you suggest such a thing? I can do decisions about 0.00...% of all coins for example. Make a list and ask them privatelly step-by-step. If all big accs we'll agree, u'll get your 80% under control. If not, well  Grin

but a lot of others will not understand this point. And that will be the reason for people to ignore NXT
And they absolutely should. We don't need at all "trusted money", we're need understanding of any newbie what's happening (time of learning doesn't matter) or we'll get problems for sure.

Agreeing with PoS-concept — very important thing. It'd not be lost in guides: Do you agree or not with PoS-repercussions (nooon-linear distribution of wealth)? (Next question: do you agree PoW can nothing do to stop this?  Grin )

This script is cool, but you could make it perfect if it checked each node in the generated string if the node is alive and provides current block info and not stuck somewhere behind Smiley people don't want to put stuck nodes in their configs. Besides, users who don't run public nodes, don't want to mess with the config much, there still should be a predefined set of nodes already in the config. But that's up to the developers to include that in the downloadable NXT package.

yes, your tool is great as is but would be absolutely FANTASTIC if you can put a little vetting into it.  A node wouldnt necessarily have to have 100% latest block, also keep in mind that due to local orphans, etc that 2 nodes could have the latest block#, and their web interface would report latest blockID and latest block height#, and while their APIs may return the correct latest blockID, the API may return different block#'s  so keep that in mind.

We would LOVE to feature your tool on the NXT Foundations Latest/Critical Info web site at http://info.nxtcrypto.org

smargda, I agree with you.. I don't know when they were forged, and my point is that I should have forged A LOT MORE, based on time and nxt held.
Calculations? Expected value of getting a block? Dispersion? Why "should"? No such thing in work of variance (as well as in any crypto before pools; all-coins-pool can lower dispersion to 0 and big pools to some small number).

I think one of the bigger challenges is to get people out of the "mining" mindset.
