Paradise places for trips.
One day... Forever!!!
You are the dude. Surely.
Hey, when have you changed your name mic? I was not around unfortunately. El duderino is way better  Grin

A.Pompliano talked Jim Cramer into investing 1% of his portfolio into bitcoin.

Now imagine where we would be if every Jim Cramer out there would want a single piece of corn!
We know there ain't gonna be much corn flakes for everyone.
Let the 1% come to our corn field

FYI, it seems they now have >100 nodes, and that seemed to be their threshold for their rewards program. I did manage to get my node on their list before they officially closed it, but i have no idear if my node was within the first 100....
We should start a specific thread on this but I don't know where to place it. This is only about the news itself and if we want to discuss the matter we need a new thread. Any idea where it should be placed?

Betterhash is half way there, second layers like Lightning improve the scalability of old concepts like P2Pool, and if we get it in script OP_CTV enables whole new option regarding decentralizing the coordination for pooled mining trustlessly.

1644  Bitcoin / Press / [2020-09-12]Researcher kept a Bitcoin bug secret for 2 years to prevent attacks on: September 14, 2020, 10:02:17 AM
In 2018, a security researcher discovered a major vulnerability in Bitcoin Core, the software that powers the Bitcoin blockchain, but after reporting the issue and having it patched, the researcher opted to keep details private in order to avoid hackers exploiting the issue.
Technical details were published earlier this week after the same vulnerability was independently discovered in another cryptocurrency, based on an older version of the Bitcoin code that hadn't received the patch.

@Karartma1. In their statement they have said that the mixnet itself will be hosted by a network of volunteers. Might this be vulnerable to sybil attacks for collecting the data and traceablilty?
Thanks for pointing this out: I believe your concerns are true. It's not clear to me how this is going to work but you are right there should be more thinking into how to possibly mitigate Sybil Attacks.

Anyway, I repeat, keep an eye on the project I mentioned earlier on. It might be an interesting one.
1649  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Using wallet on iPhone on: September 12, 2020, 07:45:44 AM
Jerome is right. Although the Coinbase wallet is a standalone wallet, you still need to pick a username and register an account.

I wonder how people can use such wallets. That's ridiculous.

I would rather stay away from both coinomi and coinbase altogether for the reasons expressed by o_e_l_e_o. I am very careful not to trust any 3rd party to hold/control/govern my keys.

With both, coinomi and coinbase wallet, you are in control of your private keys. Not a 3rd party.
However, both of them should not be recommended at all.

Thanks for claryfing but, still, as you said I would never recommend any those. We are talking about closed-source wallets and that's enough for me to keep away from them. I know that, for average users, they are good enough: that's not the case for seasoned bitcoiners.
1650  Economy / Speculation / Re: [WO] Total, inescapable slavery on: September 12, 2020, 07:40:32 AM
I know this is impossible, but I would like to know what Hal Finney would think of the overall Bitcoin situation, exchanges, forks, asics farms, long shorts, bets

Me too.

I know one thing, even though Satoshi thought through a lot of variables and possibilities, I doubt that he/they envisioned bullshit forks persisting and hanging around indefinitely.

Did Finney or Nakamoto ever mention such an event/situation as a market for forks? 2 sMerit to the first finder of a quote.

Both satoshi and Hal would have been disgusted by the whole bcash, bsv, bgold, bdiamond, bwhatever etc. Those mutant coins need to be treated like toxic waste, no more no less. And never forget, if you haven't been smart enough they could represent a huge privacy leak about your real BTC. You guys are savvy enough to know what I am talking about.

@AlcoHoDL
It's always great to read your explanations! My only concern would be if the thief is smart enough to torture a bitcoiner to the point of having him to release the full passphrase. This is so scary to even think.
1651  Bitcoin / Press / [2020-09-10] Privacy Startup Nym Will Pay You in Bitcoin to Run Its Mixnet on: September 11, 2020, 10:00:49 AM
Nym now allows bitcoin transactions and has an incentive program for people running its nodes. It is also enabling plugins that will allow users to plug in wallets and applications to run their traffic through its mixnet.
What is a mixnet?
Nym is a start-up software project working to obscure metadata tracking at a network level via the mixnet it enables. The mixnet itself is hosted by a decentralized network of volunteers.

@jseverson. Thank you!

I am not very optimistic on the Lightning network, however, if developers create a Lightning service built for bitcoin's biggest usecase which speculative trading, it might be a success.

Faster and cheaper Defi yield farming on Lightning should be next on development hehehe.
No please, come on. The last thing I want from Bitcoin is defi yield farming. I can have some interest on those btc I will be lending out but I don't wish all that crap coming from Eth to be poured into bitcoin.

Am sorry but how does Ronaldo come up in this whole Messi argument and saga?
Ronaldo is Ronaldo, Messi is Messi. Let's not be like the crazy Messi-CR7 fanboys.

Therefore I agree: there were dozens of exceptional forum members that could have been picked and only these two guys got a spot.
Their campaign their rules.

Good luck.

It's not good to criticize other people's writing styles, especially cherry-picking individual quotes out of entire pages of their post history. This usually leads to bloody flame wars like the ones in Chipmixer's thread. Also why didn't you put a link in the quote so we can see it in context?

Also, one thing I noticed from looking on that thread, is bringing up a reputation-style post in a signature campaign thread makes the manager less likely to pick you, so I think you should just nip this one in the bud for your own favor.
I don't want to start any flame. (I simply forgot to put the link but it's not difficult to find it).
Anyway, I'm OT, this is OT. That's ok, I said it already: their campaign, their rules. No need to continue this.

Is this implying that everyone who applied before your post (except for those two who got accepted) is denied? Thanks.
It seems yes,... Bitcoin_Arena is on the 64th page only a few users submitted there applications after him so I think they wouldn't see the previous applications again and start finding new users after their posts.

Hands up to Ratimov 😂 870 in just 120days, man, am so jealous.

Snip

I am afraid there will always be two bitcoin economies: a regulated and dark one. Probably the in between will not be possible. It's either one will transact on the bitcoin protocol following its rules (coin control, coinjoin, LN etc.) or, on the other hand, he will stay in the KYC/AML/FATF bitcoin world. Surely we need some privacy adjustments for everyone. The average newbie is not able to protect himself and does not even know what this is all about.

Maybe it's just newly printed brrrr money in HNWI pockets.

They mostly buy stocks with it, but maybe 1% gets converted into bitcoin.

"HNWIs are cautiously interested in holding cryptocurrencies: globally, only 29% of them show a high level of interest, while 26.9% say they are quite interested. The potential of cryptocurrencies, in terms of both investment returns and store of value, is acting as a driver of interest for HNWIs, especially among the youngest. In fact, 71.1% of those under the age of 40 attach great importance to receiving information on cryptocurrencies from the major asset management companies, compared to 13% of HNWIs over the age of 60. But when it comes to providing information on these types of instruments to HNWI clients, wealth management firms have been ambivalent, with only 34.6% of HNWIs globally claiming to have received such information from their wealth managers."

Are you a HNWI interested in Bitcoin? Ask your dedicated Wealth Manager! He will steal you juicy fees for letting you become a HODLer.

This is still in alpha testing phase, I wouldn't trust putting 0.01 in there at the moment. I will let other players have fun before it's finally released.

In the past I did my mistakes and that was enough. But, as they say, it was my learning by doing time. And I learnt a lot.
