Stay warm and safe, friends.
Is this really you, Bob?  Grin

Corn went away for the holidays
(...)

Dude!

Would you believe that I've seen these guys live several times yeaaaaars ago? They came to play in Belgium and were so "unknown" at that time (well at least in Europe), they didn't get further than playing in a few youth centers, not even in concert halls or music clubs... And actually the last youth center I saw them playing at, was in a very small village. Hard to believe if you look at their popularity now... Legend has it they only made money by selling T-shirts, because their concert fees were only enough to cover their costs... The big success only came after half of the band was dead.

That brought back memories, man!!

Good music never dies, man!!

I wonder how many bitcoin hodlers will have an extra fun time while going to work today/tomorrow. this is nothing short of historic, and every hodler will walk with pride because every hodler was damn right all along.

so the hodlers will be very confident and on the the other hand very distracted with that strong urge to check the charts.

bosses will not like that. especially the non-hodling bosses (=majority)

imagining the following scenarios:

boss sees you checking the charts, and once and for all has enough of this shit, yells at you and wants to fire you. now, before you react, check your stash:

<100 btc: smile, say you are sorry and try to keep the job for another year or so. at most.
100-1000 btc: tell your boss that you wanted to quit anyway, shake hands, farewell & goodbye.
>1000 btc: tell your boss you will buy the fucking company and take his seat.

Time to update the fuck your boss tiers!
882  Economy / Economics / Re: We, bitcoiners, should buy a bank on: February 17, 2021, 08:13:33 AM
I can't even imagine Bitcoin having a bank.  As if it was no different from centralized fiat.  It's not that Bitcoin is unique without a bank but it has tremendous hype.  I'm so comfortable with this.  Why are many people so interested in banking even though there are places where dirty money is used and regulated.

But it is that Bitcoin is unique without a bank;) Among many, many other features making it unique among money and as its own asset class. People's interest in the bank is the control. Seek to control, then dominate, then you have a say in the future and direction of the tool. The only caveat is banks and the way they're run in general aren't sustainable -- newer democratic models might emerge and prove to lengthen their numbered days but otherwise, the Bitcoin alternative is shaping up very well because of, not in spite of, not having a bank.
If we keep going in this direction, where we're heading there's no need for banks: now would be the time were merchants start accept en masse bitcoin! That is the only truly revolutionary act that can start smashing the old financial world to the ground.
That's what we need! More users in the real world, we need to avoid counterparties and start promoting and use bitcoin AS IS.

884  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BTC price VS gambling on: February 16, 2021, 09:46:22 AM
I was playing with Dogecoin lately but after that huge rise we had thanks to Elon Musk some of my past bets feel very expensive!  I try not to bet with bitcoin anymore as it is hard to control the price/risk ratio when gambling and for that reason I prefer the old funny doge.

A simple question about trading on exchanges: is it safe to assume that over 90% of trading we see happening on exchanges is made by bots? Meaning professional traders and entities run bots and automate trades while 10% of regulars trade actually against them.
Is that so?

The bot by itself can't make profit. Only if the trader has the right strategy it can help him, especially during the night. However, it takes much time to deal with all the obstacles. And this is for the regular trading. For the short/long trading the bots are even more complicated and cost more. If someone invented an algorithm that in long term makes some profit, than he will become very rich and famous. Since this haven't happened yet, I think that it is impossible to make such a man-free algorithm. Therefore, I believe most of the traders either don't use bots at all, or use only partially bots with limited functions, like to have a stop loss for the night. This of course can be done without bots on some exchanges, but others don't have such tools.
From what I know, and I can't disclose more, market making and liquidity is provided mostly by bots or market making software via API.
I'm not interested whether they make profit or not but wanted to get an idea of how fake the market can be right now.

Depends on exchange, overall now it's probably over 90%, some exchanges just do wash trades with themselves all day to pretend that they have volume

890  Economy / Speculation / Re: How to Identify a bitcoin rally on: February 14, 2021, 10:24:19 AM
So far the "rally" has continued as long as there is no bubble to burst. It stops when we enter a big bubble which bursts fast and the market enters the bear trend for at least a year.
Considering the fact that we are not in a bubble now and far from it, we can safely conclude that the rally will continue for the foreseeable future. This trend can last until the end of this year at the very least.

The whole hype of the "institutional investors" thing is just another reason people use to justify the rise for themselves just like when they come up with slightly irrelevant reasons to justify the small to big corrections or the bear market itself.
I don't think that pouring billions into the bitcoin market can be dismissed as hype, don't you think?
We have never seen something like that before in the bitcoin market: mt.gox and willy are thousand light years away now.
I am an uber-bitcoin maxi but I'd never be as sure as you are to safely conclude that this rally will keep going.  Nothing is certain here.
891  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla Bought 1.5 Billion in Bitcoin! on: February 14, 2021, 10:19:12 AM
If the price is gonna go beyond $50K it will remembered like the Elon-Tesla pump. For a sustainable market I do hope we don't have to rely on these announcements to keep going though. Luckily there are many institutionals player ready to invest in bitcoin and adding more small portofolio % to it will keep the train moving.
This is a paradigm shift, the market has changed so much in less than a year.
892  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: February 14, 2021, 10:14:52 AM
I agree this season has been really crazy, lots of unexpected results. Honestly from all the European leagues, The Bundesliga is the most unpredictable,
I lost a lot of money betting on the Bundesliga. Especially this week there have been too many draws results, so for the time being it seems like I have
stopped betting on Bundesliga matches.

The results we saw yesterday were too awkward. All of the games ended in a draw. It was like they were arranged like that on purpose.  Cheesy  I'm sure that too many people lost their bets on those matches. Bundesliga really seem as the most unpredictable league in Europe.
Are you talking about those games were all fixed? Come on, you are exaggerating a bit as it can't clearly be like that. Surely people lost many bets but I think is mostly because the follow the odds only: one needs to think about the overall stats and teams situation to get a full picture.
By the way, my multi betslip is still valid  Wink
893  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: February 13, 2021, 04:24:03 PM
Leipzig won against Augsburg while Leverkusen draw the game with Mainz. Waiting for Wolfsburg and Union Berlin to possibly profit from my multi.
Leipzig is holding tight on second position and let Bayern Munich feeling a little bit of pressure: maybe Bayern could either lose or draw the next game as they may be tired from the World Cup even though I don't see Arminia Bielefeld able to win the game in the end.
894  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dice games on: February 13, 2021, 04:11:52 PM
Is there any specific strategy that someo uses making you more likely to win ?

It's a simple game and I tried to figure out a way by placing extremely small small bets with bot but in real I don't know do you guys have any idea ? What would work? If the dice game is not entirely luck based ? Because there are people who make such assumptions therefore am curious.

Would be glad to hear your strategies.
One of the strategy I am making use to escape from losses is martingale-on-multiple-houses. If your gambling house allows multiple accounts then you may try this at one house but with multiple accounts. (I remember yolodice allows us to have multiple accounts but I did not try there as there are enough trusted houses to play with my strategy).

Let me explain what I am doing with my strategy. When you go doubling your base-bet after a loss, you need to play on different house. But the hard requirement for this strategy is, you must have multiple accounts with balances on more than 5 gambling houses. Finally you need to calculate your profits/losses across all houses; I tried with 1000 dogecoin on each of house and with based bet at 0.001 doge. When you withdraw from all the houses into one wallet you can really see your profits at the end of the day.
Having multiple accounts is another stupid way to get easily locked out of your funds eventually. I warn users, especially newbies, not to do what RealMalatesta is doing. This is called cheating and even if you end up winning something, if the casino will look into it, they will freeze your funds.
Please refrain from trying it.
895  Economy / Economics / Re: The Bitcoin Price Paradox on: February 13, 2021, 04:05:20 PM
Ah! You disappointed me. Reading all way down, I thought you were going to put some interesting economic flaw in bitcoin pricing. But in the end, it turned out that the thread was just a shill for Bitflate and you were advocating the inflationary supply of bitcoin all along. You do realize that your argument is hilarious, right?
My exact same feeling! I ended my read asking myself a big damned SO WHAT!? I'm not surprised at all since cyclically the infamous bitcoin price paradox shows up.
Bitcoin's critics need to find better ways to knock it down.
I find it exceptionally amusing that they can't think that bitcoin is something different from what they've seen before. Anyway, a closed mind is the worst attitude towards a factual understanding of the many bitcoin dynamics.
896  Economy / Economics / Re: Will New York become a Bitcoin hub on: February 13, 2021, 03:54:58 PM
First of all, New York needs to survive the pandemic crisis because they've been hit very bad by the covid-19 outbreak. Like most of the huge financial hubs of the world, New York has been suffering a lot and we will see whether the world will behave as before the pandemic hit. Therefore to become a bitcoin hub, NY will need a serious plan to overcome the recent crisis. I think bitcoin can really wait this time as there are other more important priorities.
897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What determines the price of an ALTCOIN ? on: February 12, 2021, 10:11:33 PM
The amount of hype and non-sense involved in sustaining unsustainble projects or so-called altcoins is what drives their prices. There's no supply and demand here, come on. Most of these projects are based on promises: the next gen oracle, the next gen currency, the nex gen virtual machine etc.
Most people invest in this crap because bitcoin price is too high... I have seen too many failed altcoins and I am completely disillusioned.
898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is Dogecoin overpriced? on: February 12, 2021, 10:06:06 PM
The Dogecoin bubble will pop and our shiba inu will be forgotten again. Even now, I see a role for Dogecoin: it is a perfect complementary currency something in between Bitcoin and Litecoin. I use Doge when I need a quick exchange between the two, let's say I consider Doge as a very very chep on-chain LN.
899  Economy / Economics / Re: Are institutions hedging? on: February 12, 2021, 10:00:46 PM
There’s a topic debating that institutions are manipulating the market, and will “destroy Bitcoin”. I have a different narrative.

While it’s great that Elon Musk and other companies are HODLing bitcoin, but don’t you think that there is more into their FOMO, than profit? Are they actually hedging against the current financial system? If the answer is yes, are they expecting an major economic crisis after the COVID-crisis?
I really think that is exactly what's happening, it is widely known and it is a very common strategy for those that are incredibly rich to put a small portion of their money in assets like gold hoping that it doesn't work because if gold begins to skyrocket then you know the economy is in a lot of trouble, it is a way to maintain your wealth in case everything goes down the drain and it seems to me that powerful people are seeing that politicians are slowly losing control of the economy, they are trying to desperately gain that control back but most likely they are going to fail, and they need an insurance policy and it seems that some are choosing bitcoin as that insurance policy.
We can't be naive here, because without institutional money flowing in we would have never seen these prices so fast. Institutionals are not here solely because bitcoin is scarce but they are here for what this digital scarcity means in the digital realm. There's nothing like bitcoin with the same properties and those who got it are now finally in the game. I expect this to be the major narrative.
900  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: February 12, 2021, 09:55:57 PM
So i watched Bayern vs Tigres in full length and i have to say that the victory of bayern was 100% deserved. It's normal that the european teams don't play at their highest level in this tournament because of the travelling and their tight schedule with league games before and after.
Bayern dominated pretty much the entire game and i personally think that the goal of kimmich was 100% legit and should have counted because lewandowski wos not in the field of vision of the goalkeeper and he didn't touch the ball.
The next bundesliga game for bayern will be hard, but given the fact that it is against bielefeld it should still be a win for bayern.

😭Couldn't see the game, was tensed too, kept wondering why we haven't scored at the first half too.
I guess the Tigres gave in their all, but we needed to make history. Congrats Bayern 💯
Congrats to Hansi too... Man's being so luck from the onset of his coaching career.
Hansi Flick has been fenomenal really! He has an average of a trophy every eleven games he has played which is amazing. Bayern Munich is a great team and with him as a manager they are over the top. As a side note, Tigres did its best to try to fight for the title but the bavarians experienced was a huge advantage.
Now my question is if Bayern is the favorite team to win Champions League.
